Sorry that this book took so long to get off the ground but it's finally here! Basically, if you've read my story, The Legend of Kate, and seen the movie, Alpha and Omega 3: The Great Wolf Games, then you might know what the purpose of this book is.

Chapter 1: Born Alpha (written on April 16th, 2020)

In the spring of 2004, the Western pack leader's mate had given birth to a litter of pups. Normally the oldest was the heir to the pack's leadership, however all but the youngest tragically died. It was all because of Isaac's Curse, also known as the River Curse. When the East and West split apart in the great War of the Divide, the last pack leader of the formerly unified territories committed suicide and supposedly cursed what would become the new royal families. The curse apparently involved the limiting of pups being born or surviving to adolescence. The youngest pup of the Western pack leader's batch who would be the only one to survive was none other than Winston. Winston, the most feeble-looking of the litter, was now the heir. But the loss didn't stop there. The curse also included the untimely deaths of she-wolves. Winston's mother, Winslet, would die a few days after his birth. Winston's father would grow enraged. He looked for a scapegoat to cope with his unceasing pain. He couldn't blame Isaac, for he had been dead for more than four years, so he blamed the Easterns.

Although the War of the Divide also ended more than four years ago, tensions between East and West were still incredibly high. The Western royal family was especially bitter, for it was Winston's grandfather, Joseph, who spearheaded the secessionist movement that led to the outbreak of war.

Winston's father, Ross, derided the birth of Tony that happened only a few days after Winslet passed. Tony was the heir to the Eastern Pack's leadership. The pack leader across the Dividing River happened to be the son of Isaac, and Ross despised him the most. Tony's birth would mean the continuation of the Easterns, so Ross saw it necessary to prop his own son up and make him better.

"C'mon, son, you need to run faster! You need to be stronger! Those Easterns are savages!" Ross would tell Winston. The Western pack leader wanted to get ahead of the curve and train Winston even though Alpha School was many moons away. As soon as he could walk, Ross had him practice endlessly and relentlessly until he collapsed into a frenzy of panting. Breaks were for the weak.

Winston himself had little interest in the current politics. He heard how bad the Easterns were, but since he hadn't met any yet, he didn't judge despite how much his father wanted him to. But Ross was not dumb. He could see that Winston had a lot of his mother's compassionate side in him, and it was frustrating. "Winston? What are you doing?" he had asked him.

"What? This butterfly's wing is broken. I'm trying to teach him to fly!"

"Winston! You can't teach a butterfly to fly. This has nothing to do with what we were discussing earlier! You're supposed to be going up and down the mountain."

"But, Father, I've already done it ten times this week!"

"That's it! Since I can't run the pack while puppysitting you, I'm going to assign someone. Randall!" he called out. The Alpha quickly went to Ross's side and displayed a submissive posture. "At ease."

"Yes, sir."

"My son here needs to do two more mountain runs by the end of the week. Make sure that happens. In fact... you will watch my son from now on and make sure he abides by the rule of curfew."

"Yes, sir," said Randall. "Another run for today, Winston," he ordered. After groaning, Winston completed the task, and he would eventually complete the minimum amount of mountain runs for the week, and for the next several weeks ahead. Randall became his personal trainer. He had a motherly quality to him, and Winston viewed him as the other parental figure he never had.

By mid-summer, Winston would grow to be impressively muscular for a pup under the watch of Randall. Winston and Randall would grow to be best friends even with the age difference. Randall agreed that Ross was pushing his son too hard, but there was little he could do. He and Winston would find more things in common, and although Winston disliked the heavy training, he was glad to be taught by Randall instead of the grump that was the pack leader. Randall would let Winston relax and have breaks and not tell Ross that the breaks took place. Regardless of all of the progress, Ross was never satisfied.

"You need to stop being so nice. The Easterns will take you out when you're vulnerable."

"Yes, Father."

"I'm not going to be a pack leader forever. Neither will Bronx, but his son, Tony, will be just as ruthless. He will be a pack leader at the same time that you will be one. Keep your senses sharp!"

"Yes, Father."

"If training hurts, that just means you need to train harder. One day you'll thank me."
