Homewrecker: The Web-Slinging Turncoat
Peter Parker is in his apartment, putting on a white buttoned up overshirt. His aunt, May Parker, then came into his room with a banana in her hand.
"Hungry?" May asked and she threw the banana at Peter's face. The banana hit his face, and he jerked back. Peter turned to see May with her hands on her mouth, shocked.
"Ohh…so sorry. I thought you could sense that with your Peter-Tingle," May said as she laughed.
Peter sighed. "Please do not start calling it my Peter-Tingle."
"Wait," A voice came from the living room. It's Happy Hogan, May's roommate and boyfriend. "That's not an internet rumor?"
"No, it's real. But apparently, he can dodge bullets, but not bananas."
"I don't necessarily count fruits as actual threats," Peter said as he was trying to tie his tie, but with no success.
"Want me to help you out with that?" Happy offered.
"No, it's okay. I can just ask May." Peter hesitated.
"No, no. It's okay. Besides, May is busy with the lasagna." Happy came into his room and stepped in front of him.
"Hey, don't forget; Cpt. Stacy offered to drive you and Gwen to the restaurant to meet your team," May reminded him.
"Oh, that reminds him; Congratulations on winning, the uh…" Happy forgot what it was.
"The Academic Decathlon competition in Washington," Peter said from his room. "Thank you, May!"
"I hope you have a good time," A voice came from the living room. It was Ben Reilly, Peter's best friend. He was cleaning dishes to help out, while May was getting plates ready for her and Happy.
"I will. Thanks for lending me some money for the restaurant, May." Peter thanked him as he was helping him with his tie.
"No problem, kiddo," She assured him.
"And your tie is done." Happy said as he stood back.
Peter smiled at Happy. They stepped out of the room and entered the living room. May asked, "So, did you tell Gwen?"
Peter thinks he knows what she's talking about and tells his loving mother figure. "It's like we met yesterday. I mean, how do you tell someone that you're Spider-Man?"
"She's talking about your little crush on her," Ben called out as he was polishing a glass cup.
"Dude!" Peter blushed while May giggled.
"You are so cute," May ruffles his hair. "But, you should ask her out at least once."
"I-I'm not entirely sure how I would go about it." Peter admits. "How did Ben ask you out?"
"He didn't. I did," She sighs, remembering her high school days with Ben Parker. "He liked me, but he was shy. So, I figured that I had to ask him first."
Happy then asked, "Fun story, but what's your point?"
"My point is; If Peter doesn't ask her out, then odds are she will."
"You really want this to happen?" Peter asks her.
"We all want to," Ben told him. "She's fun, polite, pretty, and smart. She's like the female version of you."
Peter seems taken back by that statement before a kitchen timer rang.
"Sounds like the Lasagna is done," She ran to the oven and, with oven mitts on, she took out the pan containing the Lasagna and placed it on the stove.
"Excluding the fact that she's my perfect match, how would I bring up a date possibility? Throw some pick up lines her way or…?"
"Trust me when I say this; Pick up lines never work. What does work, however, is a guy's honesty." Happy told him. May nodded at his advice.
"And trust me when I say this; That ship has sailed," May couldn't help but agree as he walks over to get plates for her and Happy.
May walked over to Ben and asked, "Are you staying for dinner?"
Ben turned to her. "You'd actually let me stay?"
"Yeah, I mean you already come over here and raid our fridge, so why not?" Happy comments.
Ben smiled. "Thanks. I would like that."
"Anytime," Mat told Ben, to Happy's nod of approval.
Peter got a text from Cpt. Stacy. It read, We're outside. Ready to go?
Peter texted back, Yeah. Be there in a sec
"Gotta go!" Peter told everyone.
"I'll walk you down." Ben said as he got up from his seat and put on his coat.
"Bye honey, have a good time." May kissed Peter on his cheek.
They walked out the door and as they were walking to an elevator, Peter got another text from someone named Witch Girl. The text read, Congrats on Academic Decathlon. Good luck with Gwen (Thumbs up Emoji)
Peter smiled. Ben asked, "Who's that?"
"This girl named Wanda, she's a friend of mine." Peter told him as they reached the elevator and pressed the button.
"Wanda Maximoff? The same woman who brainwashed an entire town?"
The elevator door opened as Peter said in a firm voice, "She's made mistakes, but she's not some sociopathic narcissist."
They stepped in the elevator. "Defensive, are we?"
Peter sighed as he pressed a button to go down. "She's like a sister to me. We text back and forth to make sure we're both okay."
"When was the last time you saw her face-to-face?"
"When May and I offered her a place to stay, she didn't want to put anyone in danger. That and she's now this…magical gal."
"Like Doctor Strange?" Ben asked, intrigued.
"Maybe."
"Whoa. Sounds like you've been busy these past eight months."
Peter chuckled as the doors opened. They stepped out. "Yeah, no kidding. I came back after 3 years, went to one funeral and two memorial services, I've been making time for school, helped the new Captain America take down Super Soldiers, we're graduating High School, and I moved into a new place with my aunt and her new boyfriend/roommate,"
"How's that going?" Ben asked as they were walking to the lobby.
Peter paused. "It's a little awkward at times, but besides that, we're fine. May could've dated someone worse."
"To be honest, I thought there would've been bad blood between the two of you." Ben confessed.
"Why's that?"
"Because he worked for Tony Stark, the same guy who–"
"I've moved on from that. He died a good man." Peter assured Ben.
They walked outside to see a car in front of them. The window rolled down to reveal Cpt. Stacy. "Ready to go?"
Peter nodded. "Have fun tonight." Ben smiled at him. They then did a handshake and Ben went back inside.
Peter stepped inside the car to see Gwen seated beside him.
"Hey Pete. You look nice."
"Yeah, you too." Peter approved of her look. She was wearing a stunning black dress and black heels. Her hair was tied back in a braid.
Cpt. Stacy smirked at the two. He approved of them getting together, if they ever did, but he would have to give him the 'Dad Talk' very soon.
He started driving the car as they all engaged into a conversation.
"Thank you for driving us, Cpt. Stacy." Peter thanked him.
"Hey, don't mention it. So, how have you been?"
"Pretty good. How's the policing job been?"
"Fairly quiet."
They arrived at the restaurant. It was a high-class restaurant.
"You both have your money in your pockets?" Cpt. Stacy asked the two.
"Yeah, we do." Peter responded.
"Alright. Have a good time." Cpt. Stacy told them.
Gwen kissed her father's cheek and they both walked inside. Peter looked around at the expensive decor, feeling out of place and not used to the finer things. They see Mr. Harrington and Curt Conners seated at a table with Flash Tompson, Betty Brant, Cindy, and Jason.
"Peter, Gwen! Over here." Mr. Harrington called out to them. They walk to the table and sit next to each other.
"Finally, we can eat." Flash uttered under his breath.
"You look really pretty." A young woman with black hair told Gwen. She was wearing a dress that was almost identical to Gwens.
"Thanks Cindy." Gwen gave her a smile. "You look great too."
"How are you doing, Jason?" Peter asked his friends.
Jason was wearing a shirt with a tuxedo printed on him, along with jeans.
"I'm doing good. How about you, bro?" Jason held out his hand for a fistbump, which Peter accepted.
"Pretty well." Peter admitted. "How about you, Betty?"
Bettty was wearing a purple dress and black heels. She responded with, "I'm doing okay. Still feels weird coming back after five years."
Jason nodded. "Yeah, shit has been crazy."
"Jason," Mr. Conners gave him a stern expression. "No swearing in here."
"People aren't paying attention. They don't care." Jason argued.
A server came to the table with menus. She passed them to everyone at the table.
"Can we start off with drinks?" The server asked.
"Me and Curt will have a glass of water." Mr. Harrington ordered.
"A Rootbeer." Flash told the server.
"I'll take a Coke." Jason ordered.
"Just water for me, thank you." Betty said friendly.
"A glass of Sprite for me, please?" Cindy asked.
"Dr. Pepper, please." Peter and Gwen said at the same time. They blushed.
The server nodded and walked away.
"I gotta admit, Parker; I thought this place would've been too expensive for you." Flash smirked.
Peter glared at him, but didn't respond. He was used to Flash's snide remarks at his expense.
"I'm surprised you got on this team with that attitude." Gwen fired back, trying to defend Peter.
"I'm full of surprises, sweetheart." Flash frowned. Gwen glared at him. Peter felt a sting of anger and jealousy at the pet name that Flash gave Gwen.
"Okay, let's all remember that this is a fancy place with reserved individuals." Curt Conners reminded them all.
They all nodded. Jason and Betty resumed their conversation with Peter.
"But back to what we were saying; It's been…" Jason was struggling how to explain it.
"I think historic is the most suitable word," Peter said.
"Exactly." Betty agreed.
"What's more weird is that when we did come back, the people we knew that didn't blip grew three years older." Cindy chimed in.
"Yeah, my brother is now older than me." Jason pointed out.
"Yeah, it's math," Betty said.
"Pray that nothing crazy happens again." Flash added.
"Yeah, are The Avengers even a thing anymore?" Gwen asked.
Jason nodded at Gwen. "She's got a point. I mean, does anyone have a plan?"
"W-well, my plan is to enjoy the last days of school when I can." Peter said, hoping to drift off from this topic.
Curt Conners agreed. "Yes. You should all do that before the term comes to a close."
The server came back with everyone's drinks and straws. They all thanked the server, leaving the table.
Jason lifted his glass for a toast. "Well, here's to graduation."
"Here, here!" Everyone said as they all clinked their drinks and swallowed a portion of their drink.
