Blue Lantern Quest (Green Lantern Animated)
My first Green Lantern Animated story collaborated with my DA pal, Alvaxerox. I don't own anything except my character, Lea Thompson, and she's from this universe, instead of the RotG one. All DC universe stuff involving Green Lantern Animated and Young Justice Phantoms stuff belong to their respected owners. Enjoy.
It all started in a starry night sky blanketing Coast City, California. Around a desert miles away from the city, there were two people having a camping trip. One was a male around his thirties or so with dark hair, brown eyes, and a somewhat pilot/biker attire. The other is a blonde girl around fifteen or sixteen with autumn eyes, and comfortable clothes that give an icy feeling with the blue colors. Those two are Hal Jordan and Lea Thompson.
Lea Thompson is a teen girl who wishes to explore beyond the stars. Her parents' friend, Hal Jordan, would tell Lea about his secret adventures as Green Lantern. Especially ones he went through four years ago about his own team: Kilowog, Razer, and Aya. But she would mostly request telling stories that involve Razer, the reformed and rogue Red Lantern on the side of good. There was something about Razer that made Lea smile a lot. Not to mention relate to feeling hurt about losing the people we love. Despite rage fueling his power ring, Lea knew that Razer is a good being. So much that she hopes to meet him one day.
"Come on, Hal! I want to get started on our camping trip!" Lea exclaimed, pulling on his arm before taking her seat
"Alright, hold your horses, Lea," Hal replied, as he sits on his lounge chair near the bonfire. "Boy, you're excited."
"These are the only private moments we have for me to hear your tales beyond the cosmos," Lea stated, roasting her marshmallow on the bonfire to make smores. "I do a lot in keeping this to myself without jeopardizing the identity of Green Lantern."
"And I respect you for that," Hal said. "Luckily, no one is awake and paying attention to us. Mostly because we're away from people."
"Eh, I'm used to being invisible," Lea remarked, carefully putting her roasted marshmallow between two graham crackers and chocolate bar pieces. "At least, it's already Summer so I won't have to deal with more drama at high school."
"Good to know. So, you wanna hear more about my awesome tales from the stars. Which one do you wanna hear this time?" Hal asked, roasting a marshmallow.
"I think it's pretty obvious," Lea stated, blowing on her s'more before taking a gooey bite. "The one involving a certain lantern that was part of your team happening...two or three years back?"
"It's four years…and okay. How about the time me and my friends sorta... helped/fought Sinestro while delivering an alien parasite to a prison asteroid?"
"Oh, ho, ho, yes! Starting off with a good scary campfire story!" Lea exclaimed with excitement, quickly licking/cleaning her fingers before getting her drawing pad and pencil. "You tell it, I'll try to draw out the best part."
Whenever Hal talks about his adventures, Lea likes to draw them out by expressing her own imagination through art. And if her images on the characters are a little off, Hal would let her know and fix them. Especially when doing Kilowog and Razer.
"Okay, then," Hal said. He remembers it like it was yesterday. He, Kilowog, Razor, and Aya were all back together to prepare for their battle against a new powerful foe: The Anti-Monitor. Aya then got a transmission call from Green Lantern unit 1417, AKA Sinestro, one of the most awesome Green Lantern of the corps. According to Hal's interpretation.
"This is just me, Hal, but a name like Sinestro sounds an awful lot like the word 'sinister' or 'sin'," Lea replied, drawing out the guy as best as she could imagine him. "That alone spells trouble. No offense."
"Yeah, well... Thaul Sinestro is pretty cool overall," Hal said. He continues explaining how he and the others help Sinestro escape with the spider guild and their defenses. And managed to escape their ship's self-destruction. It was really strange how they would blow themselves up.
"That is very odd," Lea agreed, not leaving her eyes off the paper on these quick sketches. "You mentioned about the spider prisoner being a parasite, right? Exactly what does that thing do that makes it a parasite? Is it like a vampire that hypnotizes its victim/victims to drain the blood or energy out of them?"
"Not really," Hal said. "We didn't know much about Neuroxis...Until Sinestro attacked us, after saying he was going to rest."
That made Lea pause for a moment to look at Hal with a bewildered expression. "...And yet, you still claim the guy being cool, after trying to blast you and the others to bits."
"Kinda. We locked him up, and he seems to have no recollection of trying to kill us. We took his ring, and we were on our way to Oa to help him." Hal said. "Aya told me how, while she was putting the spider guild tech in the storage, she said Razer followed her and was... flirting with her. Until he took the blaster and tried to kill us."
"No. Way," Lea responded, unable to hide her smile on a specific part. "Razer flirting with Aya? That actually happened?"
"Apparently, yes. it seems secretly Razer had a thing for Aya." Hal said.
"Doesn't sound so secret to me," Lea remarked with a knowing smile. She continued drawing that scene out. "And something tells me that, despite Razer somehow being under hypnosis by that creepy alien spider parasite, his subconscious made him want to reveal how he feels to Aya."
"Is that so?" Hal asked, who couldn't help but smile in amusement on Lea's statement.
"Yes. Because true love can seep through the cracks of any hypnosis," Lea explained, drawing out that scene for sure. "I heard that hypnosis can't force people to do things they don't want to do unless they can from within. For Razer, although following the control of a parasite, his deep love for Aya caused him to admit his feelings. But that's just my opinion and theory here."
"Well, you're not wrong about that," Hal said. "Razer then attacked me, after I explained to Aya that I never requested to see the weapon, and when I found him attacking him I took the weapon and... I was under Neuroxis control, too."
"Okay, how is Neuroxis doing that?! That spider squid is still in its cell, isn't it?" Lea asked, still drawing. "Or did it escape and manage to jump from host to host inside them like the parasite thing it is? Did you and the other even make eye contact with Neuroxis before and it managed to keep a hypnosis link to control you guys one by one?"
"No, we didn't make contact with him. According to Sinestro, Neuroxis is a mind jumper. It's like a mind parasite, able to jump to one body and control it. We couldn't trust one or the other." Hal explained.
"Ohhhh, that makes sense," Lea said, getting the idea. "And...yikes. How can you even tell the difference between Neuroxis is in control or not? Seems tricky. Not unless you had someone bonk Neuroxis over the head to end the link."
"No, not really. Sinestro got rid of the ship's oxygen. We had our power rings' life support on to keep us breathable." Hal explained. "Neuroxis was controlling Razer, therefore he couldn't breathe "
"What?! You mean Sinestro nearly took Razer's life with a stunt like that?!" Lea exclaimed in horror. "He couldn't have come up with a less excessive method to determine the host?!"
"If we put in the pressure back, Neuroxis would've taken over all of our bodies. But he did manage to escape Razer but he couldn't make it back to his body in time." Hal said.
"So...Neuroxis ended up done for?" Lea asked, drawing the scene. "Sinestro unintentionally annihilated the prisoner?"
"No, He didn't kill him. But he didn't save him. If Neuroxis made it back to his body, then he could've done serious damage on Oa." Hal explained.
"Yeah, but still...what Sinestro planned was a bit extreme," Lea said, a little worried and nearly done drawing to share with Hal. "That could have destroyed both Neuroxis and the host. There had to have been a safer way than just cutting the oxygen. You sure you're not just being biased with Sinestro here?"
"That's the thing. I'm not sure," Hal said, a little troubled on that.
Lea looked up, feeling she might have struck a nerve. "Sorry. I didn't mean to sound judgy. I'm sure Sinestro knew what he was doing and I was being too quick to jump to conclusions," she shrugged, putting her pencil down and giving her drawing pad to Hal. "Finished. What do you think?"
Hal looks at Lea's drawing of Sinestro. She drew him with a goatee and devil horns. "Close, but if you can lose the horns and the facial hair, you got Sinestro. He also has a mustache."
"Oops. Sorry," Lea said, rubbing her head sheepishly. "I'll be sure to fix that. All aliens from different planets come in different shapes and sizes, after all."
"Pretty much," Hal said. "Usually, people just draw them green with black bug eyes and an antenna."
"Eh. Sounds boring," Lea shrugged, turning the next page to show Razer acting 'friendly' to Aya. "Am I getting any progress with drawing Aya and Razer?"
Hal looks at the drawing of Aya and Razer. It almost felt like he could see him again. "You almost got them accurate." He said, giving the drawing pad back to the blonde girl.
"Really? How so?" Lea asked, very happy that she nearly got it right.
"You drew Razer's helmet right and his facial expression," Hal said.
"Nice. And the parts that need work I missed to draw correctly?" Lea asked, all right in taking any criticism.
"Well, they do need some more physical improvements on their looks, but all in all…I give it an 80%. Good work." Hal explains
Chuckling, Lea grinned at her critique. "I'm good with a solid 'B'. Especially when drawing your team. Kilowog is somewhat easy to do. I just picture him a mix between an anthropomorphic hippo and a pig in the Green Lantern uniform."
To prove her point, Lea flipped back a few pages to show her designs on Kilowog. She even numbered them and circled the closest description of the real Kilowog.
"Wow. that's like…90% of Kilowog," Hal commented. "I give it an A-."
That made Lea smile and laugh. "All right. I'm getting better. I'm still unsure of my imaginative designs of Aya and Razer. I might have messed up on some of them."
The blonde teen sounded doubtful and shy whenever discussing her work involving Hal's friends/teammates. Especially when one has gone MIA and the other is on a solo mission to find her somewhere lost in the cosmos.
"Well, I wished I had a camera so I could take a photo of them. but I haven't seen them in years." Hal said
"I know..." Lea muttered, feeling bad about bringing that up, and hesitated in showing Hal her work. "If this is a sore subject, then you can tell me and don't have to see them."
"Nah, it's okay, I like your drawings," Hal said.
Seeing he wants to continue; Lea sighed and flipped her pages to the section with Razer and Aya. "All right...Here's what I made, since our last encounter. I made sure Aya was sleek and had a simple yet beautiful face design while Razer's...well, I might have been off."
Hal took a moment to study Lea's work. The blonde teen felt nervous about what he would say or think about it. So much that her right leg was lightly shaking and she played with her front ribbon-curled hair.
"Huh, this is pretty much…I don't know if I've met any alien out there that looks like this." Hal said, pointing at what looked like a suited vampire with headgear and wings underneath his arms.
Looking over, Lea blushed to see what Hal was talking about. "Yeah...I had this crazy thought of Razer as an alien vampire warrior. Thought he would look cool in that design. Even thought of how Aya would look slightly similar but in a warrioress outfit. I like vampire romance stories every now and then."
"Huh. vampire romance stories. Seems... Far fetch." Hal sarcastically said, before chuckling. "Oh, well."
"Says the man who faces different aliens constantly, including different colored Lanterns," Lea remarked, her cheeks still flushed. "Anything is possible. I even still have high hopes for Razer finding Aya. And if he hasn't found her yet, then maybe we can somehow help."
"Kilowog has told me, he managed to see Razer again after 4 years. He even had a blue lantern ring on." Hal said.
"For real?!" Lea said in excitement, after gasping. Her smile growing. "As in the Blue Lantern Corp representing hope?! How's he doing? Was he different with a blue ring? Can I try drawing him out right now?!"
"I wasn't there. But apparently, according to Kilowog, during his quest to find Aya, a blue lantern ring followed him, and decided to abandon his red lantern ring." Hal explained.
"Wait...You mean his ring is now off to find another raging holder?" Lea questioned, growing concerned. "Should we be worried?"
"No. After getting his red ring back and accepting both rage and hope, he became both. Kilowog said he was called a Red and Blue Lantern." Hal explained. "He has both rings on."
"Whoa..." Lea muttered in awe. "I bet he looks amazing. Never thought you can have more than one."
"Well, I did once have all the orange lantern rings, but I was consumed by greed," Hal said. "So, I guess anything is possible."
"You think I would be worthy enough to be a Lantern?" Lea questioned. "If I ever became a Lantern, the first thing I would do is help Razer find Aya. Then after, help those in need help and away from danger."
"It's possible. I became a Green Lantern because Abin Sur died, and picked me to be the next green lantern in his place." Hal said. "Atrocitus tricked Razer into becoming a Red Lantern after destroying his home planet."
"And Kilowog?" Lea questioned.
"Heck, if I know," Hal said. "He never tells me anything about his past. And even if I did, Kilowog would just beat me up to next week."
"Oookay, then. Sorry for asking," Lea stated, getting her drawing pad back to get to work while having a sudden thought. "Hey, Hal? Do you think...your friends would like me? I'm not exactly the popular girl in school nor a big shot like you."
"Probably. Took them a while to get used to me. Although, it took them a few minutes to get used to Guy." Hal said. "And John. So, maybe, yeah."
A silent gulp came from the blonde teen but feels relieved that Lea has a small chance. "Just asking. Did Kilowog mention any difference between Razer's Blue Lantern look or Red and Blue Lantern look, compared to his original Red Lantern? I want to see if I can draw both versions out."
"Yeah, kind of. For example, Razer's hair is white and his blue lantern costume looks very different. It even came with a hood." Hal said.
"He has hair? Huh. And all this time I thought he was bald," Lea admitted, sketching that out. "I'm glad he's not. I like the sound of white hair and a hood for his Blue Lantern form. Makes him mysterious and cool. I'll also probably going to need your help on the Hope Lantern symbol."
"Sure thing. I think I remember how it's drawn." Hal said.
Lea spent nearly less than half an hour to draw her guess on Razer's Blue Lantern form.
"Okay...I think I'm done," Lea stated, giving Hal her drawing pad. "Hopefully, it's not that bad."
Hal looks at Lea's drawing. "Yep, this is exactly what I remembered," he said.
"I drew Razer all right? It's not off?" Lea questioned, giving Hal her pencil to draw out the symbol on the figure's chest. "I tried remembering his line features under his eyes and chin. Along with his hair revealed under the hood. It's like his old red form, but not completely."
"I believe this is what Kilowog described to me," Hal said, already putting the symbol on the chest.
"Great," Lea stated, suddenly getting a buzz from her phone to check what it was about. "Huh. That's...odd. I'm getting a weird unknown text I can't seem to make out."
"Really? what did it say?" Hal asked.
"Most of it is random numbers, but the only words I can make out are 'In need of hope', something-something 'looking for red', 'I trust you to help', something-something, and...'Forgotten Zone'?" Lea explained, giving Hal her phone to see for himself.
"The... Forgotten Zone...? That's Razer's home." Hal said, putting the drawing pad on the side.
"Razer's home? Who would send that?" Lea questioned, looking at her phone. "And what does the rest mean?"
"Hmm... In need of hope, looking for Red..." Hal repeated the message's code. "I trust you to help..." He then realized something. "Uh...Lea...I hope you're not gonna think I'm crazy."
"Why would I think that? At this point, I'll believe anything you say," Lea remarked, looking at her phone to see it act up again.
"I think...these messages are coming from... Aya." Hal said.
Lea gasped, her hand shaking when seeing what came next on her phone. "...I think you're right...Look what showed in my phone."
It was one of Lea's drawings she saved on her phone that she didn't bring up and was sent from the other line that contacted her.
"How is that possible?" Hal asked.
"I have no idea! But if Aya is trying to contact us, somehow, then that means she's out there somewhere asking for help," Lea explained, looking at her phone. "Maybe the other words involving hope and red are clues to find Razer to tell him we found Aya."
"You may be right," Hal said, activating his ring to become Green Lantern in less than a few seconds. "Looks like we'll have to cut the camping trip short."
Lea then had an idea/request. "Look, Hal...I know this isn't my place, but if Aya sent me a message..."
"What are you getting at?" Hal asked.
"...I want to go with you and help find Aya!" Lea exclaimed.
Hal was shocked. "Um... Are you sure?"
"I get I'm not a Lantern like you, Hal, but this clearly involves me now, if Aya sent the message to my phone and not yours," Lea explained, standing her ground. "Besides, I already told you before that if Razer hadn't found her yet, WE could somehow help. And the fact that the first thing I would do in being a Lantern is to help Razer find Aya. I meant all of that."
"Yeah, I see your point," Hal said. "But I have no idea where Razer is. Kilowog said the last time he saw him, he left New Genesis."
"Well, from what Aya sent in the encrypted message and what you told me about him last, Razer is Half Blue Lantern, right?" Lea reminded. "And your Lantern Rings need to be recharged once in a while, correct? So, I'm thinking we find Razer at the one place where he would go to energize his blue ring: Odym."
"That's…actually a good idea. The blue lantern powers boost my green lantern powers." Hal said.
"Plus, it's the home base for all chosen Blue Lanterns," Lea added, grabbing her things to place in her backpack before having it on her back. "That's the perfect place to stop at, first! Let's go! Green Lantern us there!"
"Whoa, hold on!" Hal said. "It's space, Lea, you can't breathe out there."
"Can't you just use your power ring to help me breathe into space?" Lea questioned, tugging her bag. "Or call for a ride to get us to Odym?"
"Now, that I can do," Hal said.
Lea folded her arms, raising an eyebrow. "Can do what? Use your power ring to help fly me there or call for a ride?"
"The second part." Hal said. He then brings out his ring. "Hello, Saint Walker, you mind giving me and my friend a ride to Odym? Okay, I'll see you at my planet's atmosphere."
"Saint Walker?" Lea asked, making sure she heard correctly.
"Yep. One of the first-ever Blue Lanterns." Hal said.
Lea did her best not to squeal so loudly. She recalled one of Hal's stories about him. Very skilled alien hermit who lived in a living planet called Mogo, helped stopped a large invasion with his blue light of hope, and was a teacher to Razer on training him to calm his anger once during the Manhunter War.
"This camping trip keeps getting better by the second," Lea stated, unable to hide her excited smile...which lasted for a few seconds. "Wait...how do I introduce myself to a Blue Lantern? Am I supposed to bow? Call him Mr. Walker? Is there a dress code?"
Most people who know Lea well is that she overthinks first meets with people and manages to make a fool of herself. She's usually a klutz or too shy in meeting someone who is a big deal.
"Just calm down, Lea. Let me talk to Walker, and then I'll introduce you to him. Just have to be calm." Hal said.
"Right. Stay calm. No problem," Lea said, chuckling nervously. "Walker is a nice Lantern, right? Not like those guardian midgets you once told me about being super strict and judgmental?"
"Eh..." Hal scratched the back of his forehead.
"Oh, man, he is!" Lea exclaimed, throwing her arms in the air.
"Lea, calm down. I was only kidding," Hal said, helping his friend be at ease. "Walker is very chill and nowhere similar to the Guardians of Oa."
This made the blonde girl glare at Hal before smiling gently. "…While I am all in to help reunite Aya with Razer and vice versa, this is still my first ever epic space adventure where I cannot make a fool of myself."
"Then, I hope you survive the experience," Hal said, elbowing the blonde girl gently.
Sighing, Lea stayed calm and tugged her backpack's straps. "Well, can't be any worse than how you started, Hal."
What felt like hours when it was less than one, something started coming into Earth's atmosphere that was coming to where Hal and Lea were.
"Uh, Hal?" Lea said, growing concerned.
"Stay calm," Hal said, placing a supporting hand on her left shoulder. "It's not a meteor."
On cue, the object coming down was revealed to be a spacecraft with white, black, and blue colors that landed not far from where Lea and Hal were.
"Whoa..." Lea muttered, seriously in awe. "I can't believe I'm in front of a real-life alien spacecraft."
"Yeah. It's pretty lucky. But I've seen a lot of spaceships from aliens." Hal said.
"From all the adventures you told me, I believe it," Lea stated, cautiously walking forward. "But this is a first for me. I'm pretty much a newbie here, compared to how you started in getting your ring."
"Well, stay sharp. You're gonna be seeing a lot that you can't even fathom." Hal said.
The Green Lantern wasn't kidding. For this was about to be the start of Lea's first space adventure.
And this is the first chapter of the Green Lantern Story. There's a lot of callbacks on the episodes from that series and that one Young Justice Phantoms episode that finally reveals the activity on Razer, who has been quiet for four years. It's crazy. The name of episode 19 of that event is called 'Encounter Upon the Razor's Edge'. I'm just there for the return of Razer. Hope you all enjoy.
