Chapter 1

Sam woke on his couch to the sound of running water and the clinking of bottles. Grabbing a bowl containing the remnants of potato chips from the coffee table, she made her way into the kitchen where O'Neill, his sleeves rolled up, was washing out beer bottles for the recycling bin. He looked over his shoulder at her and smiled.

"Have a good nap?"

"I guess I missed most of the movie? One of Daniel's favorites… what was the plot anyway?" Sam asked.

"It was a murder mystery."

"Really?" Didn't seem like that from what little she remembered.

"Yeah. The two leads were attempting to talk each other to death."

She laughed.

"I can't blame you for falling asleep. Now the second feature.." Jack said proudly.

"Oh… I slept through that too." She was embarrassed, hoping she hadn't snored.

"It was Men in Black, my pick." He said smugly. "Teal'c thought it was a documentary. He was sure he recognized D'Onofrio."

She laughed again, then said "I'd better head home."

"You okay to drive? You could crash here."

Sam smiled and shook her head, it was too damn tempting.

He wiped his hands on a dish towel and followed her out to the front hall, to her coat and to the door. A simple good night kiss on the cheek missed its mark. She licked her lips savoring the kiss. His fingers found her hair, her cheek, her earlobe with the tiny drop earring he found entrancing. He kissed her again and again.

As they came up for air, they came to their senses.

"I should go." Sam said.

He backed away reluctantly from her kisses. He was struggling to let her go when what he wanted to do was hold her.

He wanted her to stay with him.

He wanted her to stay.

He wanted her.

He leaned against the door until he heard her car drive off. Listening to the silence of the night.
