Chapter 4: My First Day on the Job Part 2
We got the rest of the stuff done as needed and me and Sebastian headed to the house. We saw Anna walking by working. We also walked by Adine and Remy's place. We got home and no further did we walk in that Sebastian took a nap. I went to the kitchen and got out some food and sat in the chair. A hour later, Sebastian woke up.
Sebastian: Lucas? You here?
Lucas: I live here now remember?
Sebastian: Right. Anyway. We should get ready at 8. It's 4 now. Anna should be home by 5 if you wanna prepare dinner
Lucas: But what food should we have? We certainly can't eat Reza. That's cannibalism and just yuck.
I make a gagging sound and Sebastian giggled.
Sebastian: Fair enough.
Lucas: Vegetables
Sebastian: Cool.
Soon we settle on making meat sandwiches and when Anna came back, we ate. Anna talked about Damian and what's their next project is. Soon we finished and 2 hours later, all of us went to the fair. Sebastian pulled me aside.
Sebastian: Remember you got 3 hours to do everything but you better prepare for your concert at 10 okay? I gotta head to the Bastion Breach table. Bye
Lucas: Bye
So I have several options. I can blow bubbles, blow up balloons, Eat pies, "Shoot" other people or play Bastion Breach with Sebastian. Bryce is setting up his station as well as Anna and Damian. I decided to leave it up to chance. It landed on Balloon Blowing contest and I went there. Once I arrived, A flyer walked up to me, set a balloon down and walked away. Once everybody arrived and got a balloon, the Flyer went over the rules.
Flyer: So first off, The claws are sharp so put some oven mitts on
We put oven mitts on. Cozy
Flyer: Second off, these are huge. They take 108 inches before they pop. Be very careful. One blow too far and your out. Got it?
We all nodded.
Flyer: Okay rules are set, oven mitts on securely? Okay pick up your balloon and put it in your mouth.
We did that
Flyer: On your mark…get set...BLOW!
I started blowing. This was gonna take a while. 5 other dragons were here. We got through the 2nd blow when suddenly the host stopped us.
Flyer: We got a wild from Audrey!
OH NO! I know those...those are evil and I got one called on me and I was sad. Since that day...I decided not to enter another but I wanted to try again...here's hoping I don't get picked.
Flyer: Now there are 2 dragons that are trying to catch up BUT only one's journey stops here. Which one is it?
I started sweating. Don't pick me. I heard oven mitts slapping the table. I freaked. I gulped. "I'm gonna lose" I quietly said. I heard scraping and a kiss. I then heard a pop. I opened and I sighed. "Yes" I quietly said. Joanie lost and exited.
Flyer: Okay well there goes your Wild Joker. That's your only chance to cheat so you can head back and continue.
We soon went back to blowing. Soon though, it was showing that it should have been me...I was the weakest link. Somebody please pick up a Wild Joker and pop my balloon please. I'm done for. I kept trying however. Soon another Wild Joker showed up but...the dragon waited a blow to decide. I got to do better than her if I'm gonna stay in this. Here goes nothing. I took a deep breath and she also did and we both blew. I lost...she got a 7 and I got a 4. I heard the pop and I left. I figured as much. I had a chance but my lungs were never meant to blow balloons or bubbles. I decided to skip bubble blowing and saw an Inflatable Castle with kids bouncing on it. I then left and saw Sebastian.
Sebastian: Hey! I saw you blowing a balloon over there. Sorry you lost
Lucas: No need to feel sorry. My lungs were not made to blow up things. Rather play a simple game like this one.
Sebastian: Oh? Wanna play me? I'll have you know, this is a great game I made up
Lucas: How do you play?
Sebastian went over the rules and soon we played. It was close but I won after scoring one more point to steal the win. Sebastian was shocked.
Sebastian: Dude this is your first time playing?
Lucas: Yep
Sebastian clapped
Sebastian: Good job then
Lucas: Thanks
Soon I left and figured to set up now so I went backstage and got in my spot. It was 8 at this point. 2 more I thought. I opened my bag and took out my microphone. I tested it out since it was wireless and put it back in the bag. I came back out to a maroon dragon.
Lucas: Bryce? What are you doing here? Weren't you in the station?
Bryce: I WAS but wanted a break. You mind taking over for me? Maverick is there but he rather do his fighting ring then stand there looking at a computer screen all night
We both laughed
Lucas: Sure
Soon I relieved Maverick and sat in the chair. I saw a blinking light and opened it. Huh? Another Police Department? I would hope not. I put it in the Read Later box for Bryce. I clicked out of Dragmail and laid back then the door opened. Seb?
Lucas: Wait? Your done?
Sebastian: Nope but Bryce told me about you taking over and I wanted to check. Seems the fun got you wiped.
Lucas: No kidding
Sebastian: If I may, Is this what you excepted?
Lucas: No
Sebastian: oh...I can tell…
Lucas: NO! I'm not complaining. I like it. You have your thing, I don't know what Bryce is gonna do, Maverick has his thing. You have yours, The rest have their things as well. I have a station set up out there. I do write sometimes. Not sure if you saw that.
Sebastian: No I didn't. That's cool actually. What are you writing about?
Lucas: It's a secret
Sebastian: Oh okay
Lucas: What's not a secret is the kiddy dragons that will be writing with me
Sebastian: May I help out? I'm not done but by 9, I'll be done
Lucas: Sure I guess. Not sure how but if you feel obliged to, I can't say no
Sebastian: Thanks Lucas
Lucas: Oh and Seb?
Sebastian: Yes?
Lucas: Good job
Sebastian: Thanks?
Soon the clock ran 9 as Sebastian packed up and so did Maverick. Anna followed 15 minutes after that. Bryce and Damian looked on. Soon a kid walked up with Sebastian
Kid: Hey mister. Sebastian told me you were writing?
Lucas: Why yes I am. You wanna?
Kid: Sure
I gave him a journal and he started writing then he asked a q1uestion I didn't except
Kid: So you guys are police officers right?
Lucas: Huh? Yes we are but why did you ask that?
Kid: I see you guys around but my mom told me ro stay away from you guys because you abuse your power
We both went wide eyed
Lucas: You joking right?
Kid: Nope
Sebastian: That's a bad mother right there
Lucas: I mean...he's not wrong
Sebastian looked like he seen a ghost
Sebastian: LUCAS! Don't side with his mother
Lucas: Seb...it's all over the news. I don't think it's a secret at this point but he somehow never listened to his mother. I mean he's writing...I'm writing, we are off duty...I mean it's the perfect scenario. Just stuff like this is why I joined. I wanna hang out, have fun, do things that are meaningful. If I didn't do any of that, I wouldn't be here now would I?
Sebastian sighed and left
Kid: What's his problem?
Lucas: I don't know
Kid: Should we go after him?
Lucas: No. Just keep writing. I'm sure he'll calm down
As soon as I said that though, he slammed the door to the station and broke the glass. I looked at Bryce and Maverick who walked to me.
Bryce: What happened?
Lucas: I'm not sure. I was telling him that this kid never listened to his mother and why I like this job and he just left then when I told the kid he would calm down, he slammed the door...never did I think he would be upset for what I said
Maverick: I think someone needs to talk to him
The kid looked at me and so did Bryce and Maverick
Lucas: Me? Why?
Bryce: Your his friend. I think that explains it
Maverick: Dude they had a falling out
Bryce: Doesn't excuse the fact that he hurt a friend
Kid: Um...guys?
We looked at him and he pointed to where Sebastian was. He was siting on top of the station. Something told me I had to act fast. If not, I would be fired. The question is, should I wait or talk with him. My brain was puzzled. Which one?
