"When a woman is talking to you, listen to what she says with her eyes." — Victor Hugo
Chapter III:
"You know, you're beautiful when you're hungry."
"Percy." Piper shifted further away from him. "Shut up."
Smile widening, Percy started Tristan's truck, pulling them out of the driveway and onto the road. A cooler air flew at them through the open windows as music was cranked from the radio. But the feeling of Piper's eyes knifing into him was chillier.
"What's up, Pipes?"
"Don't call me that."
The greens in Percy's eyes rolled. "If you're so curious about where we're going, why don't you just charmspeak it out of me?"
Her glare dug deeper.
"Be careful what you wish for." She pronounced, laying a finger on his shoulder. "Don't tempt me with a good time."
Looking over at her, he was not disappointed. The longest sun of the year was just beginning to set, its golden shine illuminating her to levels he never thought possible. Which for a girl that could be drenched in Hellhound dung and still look like a million bucks, was mightily impressive.
With another finger, she guided his attention back toward the road. "I hope you remembered that I'm vegetarian."
"How could I forget?" Percy snorted. "You remind me every day."
"Please. Don't try to convince me that I'm that annoying."
Percy grinned and almost swerved, it becoming increasingly difficult to think of anything besides how she looked in her white blouse.
One of her favorite songs came up next as they took another road, and the blues of the piano made Percy turn wistful, if only for a second. Anniversaries of any kind had always been special to them. In a world like theirs, time was everything. And it was days like today, that proved that time kept passing.
Entering the more urban parts of where they lived, Percy soon drove them to a stop in front of a restaurant neither of them had ever been to before.
"Seriously?"
"What?" Percy exclaimed, wiping the embarrassment from his cheeks. "I haven't had good Chinese food in forever."
Piper laughed, and it sounded like music.
