Chapter 31
International Confederation of Wizards - August 10
Susan Bright wondered if, by any chance, the paperwork that was sent to ICW was just a convenient excuse for her boss. Thanks to this accusation, the decision was made to remove Albus Dumbledore from the post of Chief Wizard of the ICW before the validity of the accusations was verified. At the same time, the election of someone who would replace him was also ordered.
- Why are you so surprised? - her friend in the office Margareth Lightwood's voice was sometimes too irritating for her - There have been attempts for a long time to get rid of him from his post. He practically didn't show up here anyway.
- I know. But who will replace him? - Susan sighed resignedly. - I don't want it to be someone accidental or someone who doesn't care about this job.
Margareth smiled. - I don't know who it will be, but I know who it will not be. - after a while she added - I overheard today that they want a woman to take this position. They even want to pass a convention whereby more women will be in high spots.
Susan straightened up immediately. An idea occurred to her. - We need to find out if there is a list of candidates.
- What are you thinking about? Don't say you want this work.
- I'm not that crazy yet. I just think about what social reaction the candidacy of Gellert Grindelwald's cousin would cause. - Susan felt a smile appear on her face.
- Bennet? The idea would be amazing but I doubt she would agree. This family's data is proprietary. Woman… The last descendant of one of the oldest magical families. But would they give that spot a witch who is the quintessence of Black Magic?
Susan had to agree with her friend. They quarreled like a dog with a cat, but often shared their opinion on certain matters. Only with her she could talk about her idea. Both belonged to a small number of people who had been privy to the importance of this family.

Durmstrang - August 10
Helen was sitting at the table in the library with a smile on her face. Severus wondered what made his fiancée laugh so much. He looked in the direction she was looking. He saw Lucius Malfoy. Irritated Lucius Malfoy. Which in itself was quite remarkable.
- He's still here? - he asked as he sat down next to Helen.
Ivanna replied to him immediately - This poor want to pass his secondary school-leaving examinations at the end of the summer holidays. Professor Łagoda told him it was doable. He had forgotten to mention that it was doable but hellishly difficult.
- Oh no ... I knew Lucius was ambitious, but now he has outdone himself. He will run out and I will give Narcissa not Lucius, but some empty shell.
Helen rested her head on his shoulder. - Easy, my love. I think we might be worried about him if he didn't have potions available to help him concentrate. Think what it would look like if you were to take your secondary school-leaving examination in Muggle way.
- I still can't believe he's doing this. - Michaił admired the blonde wizard.
- He's just convinced that he will spend next year with me and Helen at Hogwarts. That's why he tries to get through his exams before the end of the summer vacation. In a month you will see the castle in which I studied for five years of my life. - Severus chuckled as he leaned back in his chair.
A group of teenagers, including Helen, were surprised by the appearance of Jean Granger. The young witch heard her mother say in a stern voice - You'll lean out even more and we'll have to pick you up from the floor. - When Helen looked at her fearfully, she saw that her mother had amusement in her eyes.
- Mom, what are you doing here? You were supposed to be on a walk with your father.
- Your father caught the Ice Wizard and Evan. He tries to discuss with them about the cultural development of wizards. He went into professor mode. What are you looking at?
- We are looking at Malfoy, Mrs. Granger. - Michaił was ahead of her with an answer. - More specifically, his struggle with an organic chemistry book.

Ministry of Magic, Department of Sports and Recreation - August 20
Kate Bennet was called for an unknown reason to a department that had nothing to do with her responsibilities. She took care of magical families. Conclusions regarding their place in the Wizengamot, finding family members who seemingly no longer exist ... It was her that people with unknown origins turned to in search of their ancestors. And it was she who could be turned to regarding the adoption of a child.
This is why she didn't understand why she was woken up in the morning with an extremely aggressive and stubborn owl. Persephone was trained in such a way that she didn't depart from the addressee until the addressee signs the confirmation of receipt of the parcel.
Kate had been standing in front of the office of a man who had no respect for his associates for over half an hour. It wasn't until she had decided to return to her office with the intention of sending the howler to Adam that Adam finally showed up.
- Kate … - he said between deep breaths, Bennet's anger subsided immediately, Adam Johnson was known to be late sooner than he would run somewhere to make it. - Sorry. The minister detained me even though I mentioned to him several times that I had another meeting.
- Did you tell him with whom? - she asked calmly, seeing that the wizard wasn't answering her, she added - Tell him this next time. I don't know why but he reacts strangely to me.
Adam Johnson was extremely tall and very slim. He was a quarter of a giant, but he didn't inherit a stocky body from his ancestors. With his almost 250 centimeters tall, she felt like a leprechaun next to him. Although she was a little over 170 cm tall herself. The redhead looked at her and smiled. - Are you surprised? After you twisted his arm at the Christmas Ball when he was drung and mistook you for his wife and grabbed your ass?
- He could look better around him! His wife was wearing red and I was wearing blue. - she sighed resignedly. - What happened that you called me first thing in the morning.
- I need a favor. I know you know Ivanovic.
A shiver ran down Kate's spine. - Aleksiej? Aleksiej Ivanovic? - She hasn't seen this man in a long time. They were in the same DeathCamp. But he was already an adult and she was just a child. - Yes I know. How do you know about this?
- I spoke to him recently and he told me that he knows that you work in the Ministry because you were asking about one of his students. He didn't know if you wanted to talk to him, so he didn't ask you directly about it. He is the director of Durmstrang and he comes to Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament. He wanted you to be a liaison between him and the British Ministry of Magic.
She knew she had to agree. After what they had gone through together, she had no choice.
- What about my department?
- You don't have to be at Hogwarts every day. Only if talks with the Ministry are involved. I know I shouldn't ask you to.
- Relax. You asked. I agreed.
Kate Bennet walked towards her office with trembling legs. She ran into someone. She didn't look at who. Images from the worst years of her life flashed through her mind.

Tom Marvolo Riddle was on his way to the first, at least since regaining his family's place, the Wizengamot meeting. He hadn't expected to run into Kate Bennet. The woman was scared and thoughtful. To his surprise, a memory flashed before his eyes. First he saw a girl chained by her neck to the wall with a thick metal chain. Then he saw an armless boy strapped to the wall with a leash. He didn't recognize the first room. Second one was known for him. It was a cellar in the Wool Orphanage. The same one in which he himself spent many days in his childhood.

Prince Manor - August 20
Augustus Prince was grateful for the recent chances of fate. He didn't suspect that he would still be able to establish a relationship with his grandson. Severus hasn't yet forgiven him, but he still decided to correspond with him. He hoped that when the young man returned to Hogwarts for the duration of the Triwizard Tournament, they would get to know each other better. He dreamed of living with him at Prince Manor. At least for a while.
The wizard, holding another letter in his hands, was very moved. This time his grandson decided to add a few words from Mr. and Mrs. Granger to his letter. He was glad they were more sane than the Potter family. At least those he knew personally.
Augustus placed the letter tenderly in the box. Then he looked at the picture of Kate and Regan on his desk. After a while he said - I hope my grandson will accept you both.

Evans House - August 20
James Potter didn't know how Petunia would react to him. From the day they joined the Association for the first time, they had a day off. A lovely blonde told him that she dreamed about dance with the boy during sunset. He thought he would make her dream come true. He was dressed in a Muggle suit which Sirius had helped him choose. His friend's job was to get Lily out of the house. He hoped they would spend the evening alone.
He knocked.
After a while the door opened. The girl looked at him with her violet eyes. At first she was surprised and then she smiled gently. - I wasn't expecting you. Are you here for Lily? She's not here.
He reached out to her and pulled her towards him, wrapping his arm around her waist. She was much shorter than him, so he had to bend down to them.
- I came here to see you. I came to dance with you during the sunset.
