Chapter Nineteen

1833

Nashville, Tennessee

"Lorelei. Lorelei. Wake up." Daniel shakes her shoulder. She moans in response, slowly lifting her head up. Only for it to go back down.

"Let her rest." TJ interjects, sounding further away than he actually was. "She'll be fine in a few hours."

Daniel bites his lip, looking over to where TJ presumably was. "She needs blood for that though."

A long silence follows before TJ finally responds with, "but they've already given us blood, and they aren't going to give us more."

The door opens, and one of the masters enters the room. "You haven't healed yet?"

"She needs blood." Daniel says.

"We've given you blood. It's not my fault you drank it all already." The master kicks Daniel out of the way. He leans over Lorelei, grabbing her face, forcing her to look up at him. "Healed or not, you still have work to do."

Before she knows what she's doing, she sinks her fangs into his the shack descends into chaos, and by the end there's blood and mangled bodies everywhere.

"They are right here, Ms. Lanaster."

He leads her to a shack with the door left ajar. And the smell of blood and death comes through the door. Which she was expecting. But the pale hand sticking out of the door she wasn't expecting. "What is this?"

"I don't know." He kicks the door open, revealing the array of dead bodies on the floor. CJ snarls, pushing the man against the blood stained wall.

"What is this?! We had a deal!"

"I don't know what happened. They must have escaped. I swear I swear." CJ's jaw clenches, before releasing him.

"Alright, but I'm finding out who did this. And you're going to help me."

"As you wish, boss."

Lorelei's thoughts are penetrated by the sound of wheels rolling across the floor. She sets the wine glass in her hand down on the end table, just as Ashley enters the room, wheeling a rack of clothes with her. "Oh, fuck me."

"The party is in a week, and we can't be underdressed."

"I understand that," Lorelei says as she pulls a wine bottle out from under her seat, "but why am I doing this alone? There are three other girls in this house."

"I'll be doing this with them later. Just pick three dresses from the rack, try them on then pick one of the three."

"Fine. The three purple ones." She stands up from the chair, and Ashley hands her the first of the three dresses. Lorelei walks into the nearest bathroom, and comes out a few minutes later in the dress.

"So what do you think?"

"It's fine. I don't really care, as long as it's purple or black." Ashley opens her mouth to say something else when the basement door opens. The stowaway walks into the living room, but stops upon seeing the vampire. "What?"

"Nothing. I was just looking for the bathroom." He looks down her body, before returning to her eyes.

"Just go upstairs. It's the first door on the left."

"Thanks." He walks up the stairs.

"Okay, you have to wear that dress now. He clearly likes it and you."

"What? As if I would ever date a fairy."

"Still. You are wearing that dress. Now go take it off."

Tommy walks into his house, and into the kitchen. Oscar is sitting in his high chair. Kat slides a plate in front of him. "Are you okay? You look a little pale."

"I'm fine." He says, despite his pounding headache.

"Uh-huh. Isn't that what you said junior year? And Zach had to literally drag you to the infirmary by your feet. And no offense but you're exactly a seventeen year old anymore."

He makes a face. "So maybe I'm coming down with something. But I'm supernatural. I'll be back to normal in a few days at the most."

"That doesn't mean you shouldn't take it easy."

"I can't take it easy. I'm the headmaster that happens to have five students missing."

"I didn't say stop working completely. You can do your job from home, and have someone take over at the academy."

"Fine." He rests his head on the table, suddenly sleepy. Kat slowly moves his plate away, a look of amusement on her face. She grabs the baby out of his high chair.

"I'll be back for you." Then she walks out of the room. And true to her word, she comes back into the kitchen, helping him to his feet. "Time for bed."

"Are you talking to me like a child?"

"Do you have to be helped into bed?" She retorts.

"Fair enough." She guides him to their bedroom, and he summons the energy to get into bed. "So what was it you wanted to tell me?"

"Um… last night, my aunt called me. She said two members of The Crusaders visited her, and they were asking questions about me. Apparently, they're starting a faction in Reefside and they're considering me to run it."

"Oh. Are you going to take it?"

"I don't know. I wanted to talk to you about it, because this will have a major effect on our lives. I mean, we have a baby and you're already at the academy for most of the day."

"It's an amazing opportunity. I will support you no matter what you do. And as for the scheduling… well I think that's something to discuss when I'm in good health."

Trini takes a sip of tea, before sighing in content. She hears a loud thud, followed by Zach shouting, "Trini!"

Trini puts her coffee mug down on the counter, and walks into the living room. "What are you doing here, Zach?"

"I was just checking in. And you aren't exactly easy to get a hold of."

"Fair enough. But I'm fine. I doubt Ana is going to attack me so soon after the last one anyway. Has she attacked you?"

"No. I managed to get in touch with Diana James, and she hasn't attacked her either."

Then there's another thud from behind him. "Did you bring someone with you?"

"No."

Would Ana really be dumb enough to just try to walk into her house? That wasn't what she did the first time. Trini casts a spell, and an image of two male members of The Crusaders walking around in the house's entrance. "Crusaders? What are they doing here?"

"Maybe it's about Ana?"

"But we did that in secrecy. It wasn't until after we sent her to the Prison World when it went outside of us." Trini sighs. "Stay here."

"But I got you involved in this."

"It's my house. And you don't have to protect me." She casts a spell, and she's on the balcony in her cloak. The two dark clothes men standing in the middle of the room, turn around to face her. "What is it you want?"

"We're here to talk about Katherine Hillard." One of them, who upon closer inspection of his face she recognizes as Eric Myers.

She raises an eyebrow, despite knowing that they probably couldn't see her face clearly if they could at all. "Why?"

"It'd be a lot easier to talk about this inside."

"I'm sure you've heard but I don't just let anyone in my house. Why do you think I created it without any doors on the outside?"

"It's nothing bad. We just want your opinion on her." Trini hesitates, but decides to let them in.
