Jenkins and Alenko where snapping up the last few pieces of their armor when they reached the bay. She walked over to her locker and grabbed the first aid kit, protein snacks, and her weapons.

"We're at drop off point one" Jeff said

The door to the shuttle bay began opening and Nihlus began walking towards it without a word.

"Orders Captain?" She said as she finished putting the Med kit onto her utility built and syncing it to her Omni tool

"Get to the beacon and secure it. Keep an eye on Nihlus's back. Radio silence understood?"

"What about survivors sir?" Alenko said as Nihlus left the ship and the door behind him closed

"Survivors are secondary. That beacon is your top priority understood?" He made sure to look at her when he said understood.

"Yes sir" she mustered out with not even a hint of sarcasm or an eye roll. But that took a lot out of her.

"We're approaching drop point two" Jeff said over the com

"Alright Shepard, the mission is yours. Secure the beacon." Anderson said as the ground team approached the opening door and ventured out of the ship.

She took several deep breaths as the colony finally came into her view. The counting strategy she'd learned back in N7 training was the only thing keeping her from hyperventilating. The colony was on fire. She could hear screaming in the distance along with gunfire. And it smelled like smoke and burning bodies. She turned on the air filter in her helmet so she couldn't smell it anymore. She new that if she smelled anymore it would start smelling like the orchards on Mindoir. There wouldn't be much she could do once that happened.

"Oh my God, what happened here?" Jenkins said with a slight panic in his voice. She had forgotten that Jenkins had grown up here. She turned to face him and rested a hand on his shoulder. Then she spoke softly to him.

"Jenkins, I know this is a lot but we have to focus on the mission. Take a deep breath and let's go. The sooner we secure the beacon the sooner we can help the colonists." That seemed to calm him a little and the three of them headed off towards the smoke. After about a mile of walking they came across a clearing. The contrast between the colony under attack and the lush serene clearing almost made her laugh. She signaled for Jenkins to go ahead and he got behind cover. She then signaled to Alenko and Jenkins that she was heading out next. Jenkins ran towards the next cover point and was shot at by some sort of drone. He fell to the ground immediately. Her and Alenko finished off the rest of the drones and they rushed over to Jenkins. She went to apply medigel to him as Alenko pulled up his vitals. He was dead. They both looked at one another in confusion. Shots like that shouldn't of ripped through his shields like it did. He swapped programs and scanned his suit.

"There was a malfunction in his shields. The drone must've hid a week spot".

She reached over to Jenkins face and closed his eyes. They stood up and she looked over at him.

"Well make sure that he receives a proper service, but I need you to stay focused. Can you scan both of our suits and determine if we have any weak points?"

He scanned them both and discovered no weak points. The pair then headed off, leaving Jenkins in the clearing. There had been a few more drones that they got through. Fighting alongside another biotic was always and interesting experience. She could feel the tingling of his biotics and his unique technique for how he used his biotics. The way Alenko used his was focused very heavily on precision and control. Even the tingling of his biotics had a steady rhythm. He almost exclusively used his hands to conjure up the mass effect fields. By the time they had reached the gunfire she could tell what skill he would use based on how the steady rythm changed to a different rythm. His biotics where really impressive.

There was a soldier who was engaging in a fire fight with 3 …robots? Her, Alenko, and the other soldier quickly defeated the three of them. After getting a quick rundown of what happened, Williams joined the duo and began leading them towards the dig site.
