A/N: Okay to amend a previous ANs the pairing is not going to be a Hogwarts character. I have picked who it is going to be however it will remain a secret.
Though if you guess it quickly enough I'll find a way to reveal it.
This will start up things with our favorite pyro maniac. I hope you all enjoy it.
Chapter 4
The Council
In the four years since the battle of Hogwarts Harry has not only started going to college in chicago but he has also graduated from said college. He received his degree in sociology and had absolutely no idea what to use it for. He would have headed home to Arizona but McCoy had called him and told the council was going to be calling a meeting in Chicago in a month and it was the perfect opportunity to have him join the council. So Harry took a hotel room and continued to make his way through the books that his family had left in the vaults.
Over the last four year Harry had not only studied his mundane education but had also worked hard in his magical arts. He had focused on attempting to mix the way he was taught with the way his ancestors had practiced. So far he had some success but found that his spells were more powerful than the books had indicated. His spell repertoire had expanded to a level that most combat wizards had to be proficient in. Harry had also found a love for charms, he started using them for everyday things such as housework and tweaking with modern day luxuries. He hasn't had to charge his cellphone for a month at this point.
In his first year of college Harry found that Chicago was a very strange place. There were all sorts of beings hiding in plain sight as well as crimes involving the magical side of the world. There was a whole police division devoted to fighting off those paranormal threats, it impressed him. Harry had at one point in his second year considered helping them out especially when he had heard of a string of murders that could only be committed by someone with magic. It was at the same time that there was a new drug going around called Third Eye. Harry had dealt with one of his classmates tweaking on it and found that it was like using a wizard's sight which was disconcerting. Though the drug stopped circulating and the murders stopped about the same time and Harry thought that the police had put a stop to them both.
His third year of school was pretty uneventful except for a period of the fall where there was a series of wolf attacks in the city. Harry called Hal and asked if there was a pack in chicago and if they could be behind it. Hal had called back and stated that it was not any of the pack in Chicago and also gave a few theories as to what it could be, meaning the other forms of werewolves or other kind of magic at work. But those too were soon taken care of and this time there was video evidence of a person shooting what looked like a silver fireball at a grainy monster. The video circulated quickly and was deemed a hoax almost as quickly. But Harry knew magic when he saw it. He wasn't sure who or what spell but that it had been effective.
Harry's final year was rather hectic, it pretty much started with a vampire noble's house being burnt to the ground and whispers were abound that the Red Court was now going to war with the wizards which did not bode well for himself. It was with this thought that Harry contacted Leif Helgarson, one of his dad's attorneys that also happened to be a millennia old vampire. Harry had asked the ancient vampire how the courts came to be.
It was explained that the original vampires were an ancient creature that had passed around their infection through the world and time. Eventually the stories from around the world started to deviate and distort. In parts of the world where vampires never really tread the stories started, in South America the stories became so real and believable that they manifested themselves, it was either that or some wizard cursed a people and the curse got out of hand, Leif wasn't sure. Those vampires eventually became the Red Court and they annoyed Leif to no end as even the strongest were weaker than the normal vampires of the world. In Germany there was a rumor that the curse could raise the bodies from the grave and it was believed by those of the true vampires that due to the belief and magic of some others that the curse mutated to create those of the Black Court and those were the vampires that were hunted down after Stoker's novel was released. The White Court confused most of the true vampires as no one knew how they sprouted up but nonetheless they were more akin to succubi than vampire but it is what it is.
Harry had learned a lot from the old vampire, not all of which was about possible enemies. Like his father Harry had taken to sparring with Leif while using a sword, his skills had improved a lot but he was nowhere near the level that Leif and his father were at.
Soon it was his graduation day and here he was sitting in his hotel room waiting for McCoy to tell him where he needed to meet. He was dressed in a nice three piece suit, it was light gray with a crisp white shirt and black shoes. On his left wrist was a watch that had a silver face and a black leather strap; it was charmed to act as a shortcut for his shield spell. He had asked McCoy when he was working on it and discovered that a lot of wizards did similar things for their shield charms. On his right middle finger was the Potter family ring that was silver with a ruby encrusted original seal of his family (that being the Bear). As he was tying his tie he received a phone call from his old teacher to meet him at the McCormick Place Complex, it seems the White Council had rented out one of the smaller buildings.
It was only a fifteen minute ride by cab to arrive at his destination. When he arrived he saw four people and only recognized one. The first was a woman better than six feet tall. She wore her gray hair coiled in a net at the base of her neck. She had already put on her robes of office, black silk nearly the same color as her skin, and her purple stole echoed the gems at her throat. The second contained a quality of stillness you could all but feel around him-easy to sense but difficult to define. His features, his bearing, everything about him blended into his background, swallowed by that stillness, patient and quiet as a stone beneath moon and sun. He was of innocuous height, five eight, maybe five nine. His dark hair was plaited in a long braid, despite age that seamed his features like bronzed leather under a scarlet sun, warm and worn. His eyes, beneath silver brows, were dark, inscrutable, intense. Eagle feathers adorned his braid, a necklace of bits of bone circled his throat, and he had a beaded bracelet wrapped around one forearm, which poked out from beneath his black robe. One weathered hand gripped a simple, uncarved staff. And the third was a man not that much older than Harry, he had dark hair that was uneven and a face that screamed sleep deprivation not to mention his wardrobe was lacking and it looked like the robe he was wearing was a bathrobe. Overall the man was the least impressive of the group.
Harry cleared his throat as he approached and all four sets of eyes turned to him, McCoy was the first to react, he had a large smile on his face, "Glad you could make it tadpole. Let me make some introductions," pointing at the women, "This here is Martha Liberty and that's Listens-to-Wind," Pointing to the older gentleman, Harry stepped forward and shook their hands but at Listens-to-Wind Harry stopped and smiled. "Coyote spoke highly of you." but left it at that and moved on the third man leaving a wide eyed and blinking medicine man behind. McCoy draped his arm around Harry as he was led to face the last person. "Tadpole this is Harry Dresden, everyone this is Harry Potter an old student of mine and one I hope to put forward for consideration tonight."
They soon got over whatever shock they had and went inside as the meeting was about to begin. When they entered the main auditorium (ahead of Dresden because the other Harry didn't think it would be good for them to enter together) they were stopped by several men in gray cloaks and swords, they had several large stone decorative, at least Harry thought they were decorative, temple dogs. After checking over the older folks they rounded on Harry.
A large serious looking man with a close cropped beard stepped forward. "This is a private event, please leave.'' The man made a shooing gesture that immediately pissed Harry off. He was a wizard dammit and he had every right to be there and he opened his mouth to say so when McCoy cut him off. "Easy there Morgan, this pup is with me. Someone I am putting forward for consideration. Please allow him to pass." The bearded man's jaw clenched as he looked over Harry. It took a moment before he replied as if he had a bad taste in his mouth "Fine, but he will have to go through a full screening." He walked away after motioning for the others in cloaks to start the screening. After a few minutes and no movement from the stone statues Harry was allowed in and sat next to McCoy who was also saving a seat for Dresden. The hall was not full but McCoy assured him this was a very large crowd for the White Council. Harry, who had been at Hogwarts and saw quite a lot more than there was here, was surprised but understood that this was a more selective and dangerous art than that of the school.
It took another ten minutes but the unmistakable bath robed form of Dresden came walking over and the meeting began.
-I won't go into the whole meeting Harry pretty much sat there and observed-
Harry kept getting angrier and angrier as the Senior Council went on and on and blaming Dresden for starting it. As far as he knew (which both McCoy and Leif assured him in the facts) that the Reds set this whole thing up and went after the youngest and most probably one of the most headstrong wizards on the council to start this war so that they can take over humanity…or at least they would try.
Harry was following the latin with ease as this was one of the languages he learned with Atticus. But when they got to the point of saying that Dresden wasn't a real wizard and they were going to strip him of that rank with a vote, Harry's own voice left his mouth before he meant for it to. "Oh you sanctimonious ass holes, you would find some little tiny way of throwing this guy to the wolves because you are scared of the Reds? Man, you should call this the yellow council, not the White." the hall went eerily silent after Harry finished. The Merlin looked at Harry as if he had just stepped in something icky "And who are you? I do not recall you being a member of this council. With what right do you have to speak in this setting?"
It was at this point that McCoy jumped in, "I sent you a missive about this last month Honored Merlin, I was going to be presenting a student of mine as a potential wizard or late apprentice." The Merlin glared down at Harry , who (I know this will come as a shock) glared right back with conviction. It was at this point that the messenger Ancient Mai had sent to the winter court returned and the Gatekeeper gave his opinion with an added bit in there. "It seems both Harrys can find their answer in this situation. Should they accomplish the favor requested by Mab I say they both can stay, Dresden gets to keep his wizard status and we allow Potter the chance to join our ranks and we get another accomplished and powerful wizard if my contacts are right" this made Harry gulp as he tried to keep as low a profile as he possibly could. The Senior council agreed and the rest of the meeting went by in a haze of activity.
Through it all Harry just sat there and listened though his mind was going a mile a minute as he thought of the ramifications of his outburst. His future as a wizard hung in the balance and if he failed then he wasn't sure of the consequences for himself but he was damned sure he knew that Dresden was going to be killed in some foolish attempt at peace. As he headed outside trying to catch up to Dresden, who stormed out as soon as he could and saw him driving off in his mismatched color beetle.
Harry stood there confused and had nowhere to start. He looked around and only had one word come to mind "Fuck."
A/N: Alrighty folks I know it has been…five years so yeah it has been a bit. But I have been working on this in my head for a while, or at least I would like to think that. Honestly I came back to this to see if there was still any interest in this story. If so I can put more time in it while on Paternity leave.
Anyway hope you enjoyed it please let me know
