This is a story that I found recently in my google docs history, and it actually has a lot of personal history. This is the first fanfic I published on the Internet, on an alternate account that my friend now owns by the name of Negative EX. The original run was about 5 Chapters before I stopped uploading, so I'm guessing that this is unfinished mostly. As a heads up, this story was actually intended to be a pre-prequel to Pokemon Re:Dux, but yk it's unfinished so we see how that went! Two things I want to say before I start. Number one: There's a character in the story named Leinani Koa, who is an Original character from a writer by the name of KokoroEcho (Actually check them out, their stories are what inspired me to start writing), who graciously allowed me to use the character. Number Two: My writing style has seriously changed and evolved since I wrote this a few years ago, and one thing I'm seriously not proud of is how I portrayed the early Versions of Retsuko, Kyu, and Via, and all my vulgarity and grammar errors. Just wanted to point that out rq... Anyways, Let's enjoy this blast from the past!

Adventuring Alola - Chapters 1-5 (2023, Alola)

"Retsuko wake up!"a young girl shouted.

She was standing over a boy who was knocked out cold on the floor. She looked about 2 years older than him and had the same dark green hair as him, but his hair was long and wavy without the hair clip he used, making him look a lot like a girl: a trait that made a lot of people mistake him for a girl.

She yelled again, but louder this time.

Still no response.

She was just about to give up but her younger brother walked past the room, playing a video game on his phone.

She smiled deviously.

"Hey Naoki can you wake up Retsuko for me?" she asked in a sing-songy voice, peeping her head out of the window.

"No." Naoki said coldly walking back in the direction he came

"I keep telling you Bri I'm too old for this!" He replied.

"Please, he's leaving today so this'll be the last time," she begged, making puppy dog eyes as she pleaded.

"Fine, but this is the last time!" he replied, looking away from his phone and walking over to them.

Naoki jumped into the air and landed straight on Retsuko's back, slamming him deeper into the wooden floor.

The floor was fine and durable but not much could be said for Retsuko.

He was awake now but he had a massive nosebleed.

"Could someone explain to me why the fuck I have a nosebleed the second I wake up!?"

"Oh yeah that reminds me, shouldn't you be on your way to the lab to get your first Pokemon?"

Retsuko took a second to process what his sister said.

"OH SHIT," he exclaimed. "Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit!"

Retsuko immediately grabbed his clothes and ran into the bathroom. He cleaned himself up and fixed his hair, then cleaned up the trail of blood that he left on the floor. Finally he put on his clothes which consisted of a green hoodie with yellow hood, under that hoodie was a black shirt that he had been wearing, and some blue sweatpants that had a gold streak running down the side.

He ran downstairs and into the kitchen, where his mother was making herself some breakfast.

Retsuko grabbed a bowl of Crunchy O's and put on his shoes, which were at the door. Then he grabbed his skateboard and bag from the living room.

His mother came to see him off.

"Look Retsuko, I know what your goal is and it's not gonna be easy," she said.

"Yup I know that." Retsuko replied.

"Just try your hardest sweetie," his mother said, patting him on his head.

Then she turned him around and slapped him in the ass for encouragement.

"Now get to the lab!" she called out.

Retsuko gave her a thumbs up and walked down the steps.

Then he put his skateboard on the ground, hopped on and started to make his way to the lab.

He got a message from Kyu.

"Where the hell are you?" It read.

"I'm on my way, Saabrina didn't wake me up on time!" Retsuko texted back.

He continued to the lab. Once he made it to the large building he entered the place and sat in the waiting area with his friends.

"What the fuck took ya so long?" One of his friends, named Via asked.

She was a very cute young lady, having tanned skin with purple eyes and freckles. She wore a patterned red blouse with yellow squares, and a skirt with matching colors that had a transparent rainbow colored bow on the side.. Her hair also added to her appearance, being brunette with blonde highlights and at the bottom fading into a light blonde.

"Let me sleep," Retsuko said calmly.

"You shouldn't rely on your sister as your alarm clock, she has a life too y'know," Via told Retsuko.

"You act like I don't know that." Retsuko replied, barely paying attention to what she was saying.

They continued to wait for professor Kukui to finish what he was doing.

30 minutes passed. No Kukui.

Kyu and Retsuko started to play on their phones to pass the time.

An hour passed. Still no Kukui.

Via joined in and also played the video game with Retsuko and Kyu.

An hour and 10 minutes passed, and finally the door opened and Alola's Professor walked out in his shirtless glory. (not)

"Mate, you're an hour and a half late," Via yelled.

"Bars," Kyu said, noticing Via had rhymed in her last sentence.

"Sorry, I've been pretty busy with Brunette being pregnant and all," Kukui said sheepishly.

"Why would he just blurt that out?!" Retsuko asked himself. Even though Retsuko was dense as a brick, he still understood the idea of keeping your pregnancy a secret.

Retsuko hopped off his side of the bench.

"It's all cool." Retsuko said. He walked over to The professor.

"You guys comin or nah?" he asked.

Kyu and Via got up and stood next to Kukui and Retsuko. The floor they were standing on was actually an elevator that could only be accessed by certain personel. The elevator took them down to a room lined with rows and rows of pokeballs.

Kukui led them to the middle of the room where a large machine stood.

It had tubes running in and out of it and they were all connected to the shelves stocked with pokeballs.

Kukui powered it on.

"This is the P.T.S.,"Kukui said. "It's a machine that cycles through all of the Pokemon in the lab and gives a select one to the trainer."

"Sick," Retsuko exclaimed.

"Actually Retsuko I have something special for you." Kukui interrupted.

"What could be cooler than a machine that gives you any Pokemon you want?" Kyu asked.

Kukui reached into his lab coat and pulled out a pokeball with a leaf symbol on it.

"Retsuko this Pokemon is a gift from your late grandfather," Kukui said softly.

Retsuko instantly froze. He was excited that his grandfather had planned ahead for him but also scared. His grandfather's death had caused him a lot of mental trauma.

It also didn't help that Retsuko blamed himself.

He hesitantly took the pokeball out of the professor's hand and pressed the button on the front to enlarge it.

"Do you know what Pokemon it is?" Retsuko asked.

"I have a hunch, but I don't really know either." Kukui replied.

Retsuko released the Pokemon from the pokeball. Out came a small Rowlet, asleep in Retsuko's arms.

"Wait is this the same Rowlet My grandpa was taking care of?" Retsuko asked excitedly.

"For real?" Kyu asked.

"Yeah my gramps would bring it food and water everyday, he must have known I had a thing for grass types."

"Yeah, as if the green hair didn't give away already." Via said, snootily.

"Ok smartass I don't think you noticed, but my grandfather had green hair and ended up becoming the Fighting type Kahuna!" Retsuko replied.

"Whatever, it's still such a stereotype," Via said, folding her arms.

"Alright then you go choose, I bet your Pokemon will be a massive stereotype!" Retsuko replied, cuddling against his Rowlet.

Via walked up to the machine and typed in the name of the Pokemon she wanted. The machine cycled through all the Pokemon until it found the right one. Then it sucked the pokeball of that Pokemon into the machine and into a slot where it was dropped into.

Via picked up the pokeball and released it. Out came a small brown Eevee.

Via picked her up and held her up to Retsuko.

He and Kyu burst out in laughter.

"A fuckin Eevee! That is the biggest stereotype ever!"

"How so?" Via asked.

"Every fucking time the girl always picks the cute and fluffy pokemon!" Kyu explained.

"Oh shut up ya dipshit! I bet you'll pick the biggest stereotype of all!" via replied, hugging her Eevee tightly.

Eevee on the other hand was very confused at what was going on. She had her sleep interrupted and was now being laughed at by some stupid little kids.

She shrugged and went to sleep in Via's arms.

Next it was Kyu's turn to choose a Pokemon. He walked up to the machine and typed up the Pokemon onto the keypad and the machine did its thing again.

Kyu picked up the pokeball and released the Pokemon.

Via was right because Kyu's choice was the biggest stereotype of all.

He had chosen the most uncreative thing a person with his name could come up with, a Mimikyu.

Retsuko and Via both burst out in laughter and even the professor joined in with him.

"How in the Fuck are you so uncreative!"

"That's your choice?! I'm sorry man but I gotta roast you!"

"Kyu are you sure you wanna do that?"

Everyone kept tearing into Kyu with questions and insults until an explosion went off.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and rushed upstairs, returning all of their Pokemon to their pokeballs.

Outside of the building there was a massive group of alolan Rattata, and in the front of the group, stood a massive alolan Raticate.

Season 1 chapter 3

Right outside of the lab a group of Alolan Rattata and Raticate had caused an explosion which damaged a side of the large laboratory.

Everyone rushed outside and saw the group of Pokemon, continuing to assault the lab by shooting shadow balls and using offensive physical attacks.

Kyu was the first to call them out.

"What the hell are you guys doing!" he called out to the group of Pokemon.

The Raticade responded by flipping him off and shooting a hyper beam at Retsuko, missing his face by an inch.

"You Motherfucker, I didn't even do anything to you!" Retsuko shouted, reaching for his belt.

He grabbed his Rowlet's pokeball and threw it into the air, releasing the brown and green bird Pokemon.

Kyu did the same thing and sent out his new Mimikyu.

"Mimikyu use astonish! Aim for the source!" Kyu called to his Mimikyu.

"Alright Rowlet use Lefage!" Retsuko ordered.

Kyu's Mimikyu bled straight into the shadows and appeared behind the main Raticade, swiping it with its claw.

Unfortunately, Retsuko's Rowlet almost completely ignored his orders and charged straight at the Raticade, leaving itself open for the Rattata to ambush him.

The Rattata took this opportunity to do exactly what I said in the last sentence and knocked back Retsuko's Rowlet.

Rowlet stood back up and prepared itself, completely ignoring its trainer.

Retsuko, however, didn't take Rowlet's hint and continued to give it orders.

Rowlet kept taking a hands on approach to the battle and completely ignoring Retsuko, while Kyu and Mimikyu easily had the big Raticade backed into a corner.

Finally Raticade succumbed to Kyu and Mimikyu's attacks and made its group retreat into the depths of Hau'oli city, causing more havoc as they went.

Retsuko returned Rowlet to its pokeball and together he and Kyu went back over to Kukui.

The whole time he had even watched the fight to see how well Kyu and Retsuko had developed into trainers. As he expected, Retsuko was struggling with getting his new Rowlet to listen to him.

"Did ya learn anything from your experience?" Kukui asked, smiling brightly.

"Yeah, how to get my ass handed to me," Retsuko answered, coldly.

"Don't worry; In time that Rowlet will listen to you," Kyu replied, patting Retsuko on the back.

"Kyu's right!" Kukui told Retsuko. "In fact, how about you three go teach those pesky rodents a lesson yourself," he continued.

"For real?" Via asked, excitedly.

"Oh be quiet you didn't even do anything!" Retsuko told Via.

Via put her hands in her pockets and grumbled to herself.

"Alright then, I'm giving you three permission to go and fight the army of rattata." Kukui announced. "And Retsuko you might wanna use this as practice to strengthen your bond with that Rowlet your gramps gave ya."

"Alright." Retsuko replied. He was still a bit down because of his loss to the army of Rattata.

"Good." 'i'll text you the location of the Rattata and Raticade's hideout if you were wondering." Kukui said.

Kukui texted Kyu the location of the Rattata and Raticade's hideout, which happened to be a large cave called Verdant Cavern.

Retsuko, Kyu, and Via made their way to Verdant Cavern and stopped at the entrance.

"Look at this place," Via said, amazed by the beautiful scenery of the cave entrance.

"It's just a normal cave, nothing's special about it." Retsuko said, folding his arms being his head.

"Fuckin killjoy," Via mumbled.

Despite Via's efforts, Retsuko heard her comment.

"Excuse me Ma'am but I'm a certified killjoy, thank you." Retsuko retorted, taking a shot at a fancy accent.

He reached into his hoodie and pulled out a cart that sure enough, said the words "Certified Killjoy".

Via's face turned red in annoyance.

They were about to enter the cave but out of nowhere, a small Pokemon jumped from the rocks and onto Via's head.

She instantly froze up... For about five seconds.

Via started to flail around, wacking her head as the small black Pokemon clung to her hair for its life.

Kyu eventually got Via to calm down so that she could speak clearly.

"Why the fuck does one bad thing happen to me every 20 minutes!" Via croaked. Because of the Pokemons struggling, Via's well-kept hair was ruined, and the complete opposite of straight.

She looked like she was on the verge of losing her sanity, and you honestly couldn't blame her.

By now the small Pokemon had jumped off of Via's head and walked over to Retsuko who kneeled down to talk to it.

With some closer inspection Retsuko noticed what Pokemon it was that he was looking at.

"Hey guys this is a Rattata!" he called out to his friends.

Via perked up. "Wait, isn't that one of the Pokemon we're supposed to be chasing?" Via asked. "If so then my suffering wasn't for no reason after all!" she exclaimed.

Retsuko picked up the Rattata and felt its soft black fur. Surprisingly, the Rattata didn't fight back or bite his finger. Instead, it felt right at home in Retsuko's arms, cuddling against his chest.

Retsuko took one look at the Rattata and felt a singed patch of fur under its belly.

A memory of a certain event from his past flashed across Retsuko's mind. Retsuko held the Rattata up so that it was level to his face.

"Ratty, is that you?" Retsuko asked the small rodent.

The Rattata nodded it's tiny head and chirped.

Retsuko hugged the small rodent Pokemon and put it back on the ground. Then he took an empty pokeball off of his belt and enlarged it by pressing the button on the front.

Retsuko held the pokeball up to Ratty. "I'm a trainer now man! Wanna come with like you promised?" he asked Ratty.

Ratty instantly nodded and pressed its head against the button on the pokeball. The device absorbed him into the pokeball and after a few seconds the pokeball made a ding noise.

Ratty was caught.

Retsuko caught up to his friends who had already made their way into the cave.

He released Ratty from its pokeball and held it up to Via.

"Hey Via, apparently this little guy is the same Rattata that me and Kyu used to play with!" Retsuko said. He urged the cute little Pokemon up closer to Via's face, just to get on her nerves.

She pushed Ratty away from her face. "I'm pretty sure we both expected the Tarzan of the group to be friends with a fucking rat." she said calmly.

Retsuko was dumbfounded.

The group continued to make their way through the cave as Retsuko kept trying to annoy Via with his Rattata.

Eventually Retsuko gave up on Via and they made it to another split path.

Kyu suggested that they split up to cover more ground, but Retsuko and Via both agreed to stay together.

They ended up splitting away from Kyu but keeping Retsuko and Via in a group.

Retsuko and Via went deeper into the cave until they made it into a room.

Via ran straight inside the room, marvelling at the beautiful patterns on the walls.

Unfortunately the ground under where Via was standing crumbled and Via fell through the ground beneath he

Retsuko and Ratty ran over to the hole in the ground in which Via fell into.

Retsuko called out her name.

No response.

He called her name even louder this time

At this point Retsuko was mentally panicking.

He looked to Ratty for clarification.

Seeing the fear in his eyes Ratty placed its paw on Retsuko's face to calm him down.

That did the trick and Retsuko returned to his usual self.

He pulled out his phone to call Kyu but was interrupted by a loud screeching noise.

Retsuko and Ratty looked up.

On top of a ledge stood the same massive Raticade from before and it looked angry.

Retsuko returned Raticade's anger. "What the hell did you do with Via!" he shouted at the creature.

The Raticade responded by jumping off the ledge and screeching louder at Retsuko and Ratty.

"Fine then." Retsuko said. He grabbed his Rowlets pokeball off of his belt and got into a fighting stance. "Come at me fool!" he shouted.

Season 1 Chapter 4

"Come at me fool!" Retsuko shouted. He was currently standing in front of an oversized Raticade, who he presumed to be Melemele's totem Pokemon.

Filled with rage over what happened with Via, Retsuko threw Rowlet's pokeball, completely forgetting that he had no control over the bird Pokemon.

The Rowlet emerged from it's pokeball and glared at the Raticade.

The Raticade made another screech and charged ant

Retsuko and his Rowlet.

"Dodge!" Retsuko ordered."

Surprisingly, his Rowlet did listen and dodge the tackle, but when Retsuko ordered his Rowlet to use Lefage, it didn't listen and instead used Peck.

The Raticade didn't have it's army of Rattata this time, but it still knew how to fight well without them

It avoided Rowlets Peck attack and grabbed it by the body. Then it threw Retsuko's Rowlet into a wall. The impact was made clear by a giant thump, and dust coming out from where Rowlet had made the impact.

When the cloud of dust dispersed, Rowlet fell off the wall.

Retsuko ran over and caught it, in a desperate attempt to save it.

Retsuko looked down to the small Pokemon. His face welled up with tears.

"Dammit! Why won't you just listen to me!" he sobbed, as he punched the soil beneath him.

The ratticade yelled a battle cry at Retsuko, Rowlet, and Ratty.

Ratty and Rowlet looked up to Retsuko.

Seeing the mixture of anger and fear for Via's safety in Retsuko's eyes, Rowlet took a second to reflect it's actions.

When it made its decision, Rowlet stood up on its feet and cooed.

It took a moment, but Retsuko got the message.

He wiped his face off and straightened up. "Alright, so you'll help me?"

Rowlet responded by smiling at Retsuko and giving him a thumbs up with its wing.

"Alright get ready Ratty! You too Rowlet!" Retsuko said to both his Pokemon.

Both Pokemon got ready to attack, preparing themselves for the massive threat in front of them.

Meanwhile Via was currently unconscious in an abandoned underground mine, directly under the cave where she had fallen from.

In the fall Via's Eevee had been released from her pokeball. The cause of this was Eevee's pokeball hitting some debris on its way down. It fell at just the right angle to hit the button on the front of the device and release Eevee.

As Eevee desperately tried to wake up her trainer, a group of Rattata snuck up on them.

Eevee noticed this and jumped in the air, swiping her tail and shooting a star shaped energy blast at the small group.

Being a newborn Pokemon, she missed the attack but managed to distract the Rattata long enough to get back to Via.

She used all of her strength to lift Via but her human weight was too heavy for the small Pokemon to bear.

Sadly, Eevee's efforts were in vain. The Rattata grump recovered from the attack and was captured via an Eevee.

They were two big objects but with the Rattata's combined strength they could lift them and bring them to a room crowded with more Rattata.

They also somehow managed to tie Via and Eevee up.

By now Via's condition had gotten worse, as she began to show signs of a headache. The cold also made her normally tanned skin turn pale.

Back with Retsuko, things weren't looking good for him.

Ratty was doing great, even with his weakened system, but every time Retsuko ordered Rowlet to do a grass type attack it would just shrug it off and do a physical attack instead.

After another minute of this Retsuko was beginning to get tired of this back and forth.

He called out to his Rowlet, just as it avoided a Focus Punch from the Raticade.

Through its movements, Retsuko noticed something about Rowlet.

Every time Retsuko ordered it to use a grass type attack, for a split second it started to glow purple.

Retsuko himself didn't understand how he noticed this, but it seemed to have a connection with him. Every time Rowlet glowed purple Retsuko felt something, a sort of.. Connection.

He got an idea. "Rowlet I think I get your problem!" he exclaimed.

He then proceeded to make a symbol with his fingers.

"Just go with the flow! Fight how you like!" Retsuko told his Rowlet.

Hearing this, Rowlet regained his passion to battle, charging at Raticade full force.

The Raticade saw through the attack and prepared to swat Rowlet out of the air, but just as it hit Retsuko's Rowlet did a Mid-air 360 twist.

While Raticade was stunned, Rowlet surrounded itself in purple energy until it took the form of leaves.

Using these leaves Rowlet shot kicked up wind for Ratty and gained some

extra force for itself.

"Alright then, Ratty Quick Attack! Rowlet Leaf Tackle!"

Using the extra force from the wind Ratty slammed into Raticate getting tips health down low. Then covered in purple aura and leaves, Rowlet attacked the Raticade, instantly K. it.

"Yes!" Retsuko exclaimed. He Jumped up and down excitedly and ran over to his two Pokemon. He hugged them as hard as he could.

"Ko-koooooo!"

A Pokemon made a loud screeching noise. Retsuko, Ratty, and Rowlet all looked up. Above them floated the guardian of Melemele Island, Tapu Koko.

Retsuko prepared himself to fight the legendary Pokemon, but instead of attacking him, Tapu Koko revealed a small white crystal in its claw.

Using some sort of psychic power, it floated the white crystal down to Retsuko, who eagerly grabbed it.

"T-This is a Z Crystal," Retsuko said as he examined the object in his hands.

He looked back up to ask Tapu Koko a question, but it was gone.

"Weird."

After a second Retsuko remembered that he had to save via.

"Oh shit, Via!" Retsuko said, as he got up and ran over to the hole she fell in, putting his newly acquired Z crystal in his bag.

He pulled a rope out of that bag, and tied it to a metal rod sticking that was conveniently sticking out of the ground. When he decided that it was sturdy enough he went in.

As he slid down the rope Retsuko noticed that the air around him was getting warmer and thinner.

When he made it down the rope, he pulled out a flashlight and examined his surroundings.

He saw the destroyed shack that Via fell into and her bag was on the floor.

Seeing this Retsuko started to expect the worst.

He saw some Rattata shaped footprints on the ground and followed them as fast as he could, Ratty and Rowlet trailing behind him.

In a minute, Retsuko made it to the room where the Rattata had taken Via and Eevee.

There in the corner of the room sat a shivering and scared Via. She was mumbling to herself and holding her ears.

Retsuko took one look at her. He was happy and relieved about his friends safety, completely ignoring the obvious panic attack she was having.

Via's Eevee, (who was trying to snap her out of her panic attack) noticed retsuko's presence and got in a fighting stance, prepared to defend her trainer with her life.

Retsuko turned up the brightness on his flashlight and Illuminated the whole room.

Recognising Retsuko as one of Via's friends, she backed off and let him walk over to via to examine her condition.

He glanced back at Via to see if she was okay. What he saw was something Retsuko thought he'd never see again.

How couldn't he have noticed? The signs were right in front of him.

There was only one conclusion for what the energy Retsuko was feeling.

"Sh-She's just like me."

Season 1 Chapter 5

It had been about a month since the Rattata and Raticate incident, and Kyu decided to spend that month helping Retsuko train for his grand trial.

The reason for this was that Professor Kukui and Retsuko's father had set up the whole thing to test him.

Retsuko himself was not happy with them, as it had put him and his friends in serious danger and also gotten Via sick.

By now Via was doing perfectly fine, and that energy Retsuko felt radiating from her was gone.

Retsuko didn't feel obligated to ask her about it so instead he went to tell Kyu about the energy he felt from her. When he did, he described it as a fiery aura with a burning hot passion.

Kyu simply shrugged it off and made a sex joke about it.

About two days before Retsuko's scheduled fight against the Kahuna, Kyu decided to take him and Via to route 2 so they could go and catch Pokemon, because Retsuko was terrible at making strategies for battle.

"So this is the place?" Retsuko asked, petting his Rowlet which he named Kuu (which means sky in Japanese) on the head.

"Yup!" Kyu replied. He had replaced his light blue jacket with a short sleeve school shirt and a tie.

He had also started wearing his glasses again, courtesy of Via.

"Let's get started then!" Retsuko said enthusiastically. He got up and started to run towards the grass.

"Hold up there cowboy," Kyu said. He grabbed Retsuko by the collar.

"Why?" Retsuko asked Kyu.

"We're waiting for someone," Kyu answered.

"Who are we-

"You'll see," Kyu interjected.

Again, as if on queue a pink haired teen, wearing a brown sweater and white dress pants showed up.

Via squealed. A-Aren't you Ilima! Like THE Ilima?!" she asked him.

"Yes, yes I am." Ilima replied calmly. He was used to the paparazzi so when Kyu called him down for training he knew someone whole had a reaction like that.

"Wait, do you mean the Ilima that runs the melemele trial?" Retsuko asked.

"Yes, I'm also the trial captain of melemele island." Ilima replied again.

Retsuko ran over to Ilima and grabbed him by the collar.

"So you're the handsome motherfucker who trained that monster!"

Retsuko held him up higher, and was surprisingly able to lift him off of the ground despite Ilima's size advantage.

"Retsuko put him down!" Via demanded.

"Via, this is the guy that trained the Rattata army that got you hurt and sick!" Retsuko exclaimed.

At this point Via wasn't having anymore of Retsuko's bullshit. That dream she'd had in the cave; It brought back memories that she had been trying to suppress for years.

She turned to Retsuko, her face not the normal, cute and happy expression she always had.

She looked at Retsuko with the eyes of a demon and glared directly into his soul.

"I SAID... PUT HIM DOWN!"

Retsuko made a small peep and let go of Ilima. Via turned back to her normal self.

"So Ilima! What brings you here?" she asked, smiling happily.

W-Well, Kyu told me that your friend here needed some help training so I gladly accepted his request for help." Ilima explained, still weirded out from what had happened mere seconds ago.

"Oh.."

"Um, sorry?" Retsuko said, sheepishly.

Kyu and Via gave him a death glare.

"Don't worry, all is forgiven," Ilima told Retsuko.

"Ok then, let's get started!" Kyu exclaimed, trying to break the tension between the two of them.

Ilima held out his hand. "So you must be Retsuko, Nagato's son right?" Ilima asked.

Now it was Retsuko's turn to be tired of the bullshit.

"Why must everyone call me Nagato's son!" Retsuko exclaimed.

Ilima brightened up. " Finally someone who fucking gets it!" he added, much to everyone (except Retsuko's) surprise.

Ilima continued. "Every one just acts like your the big fucking cheese just because you fight with a few monsters and win a lot!"

Retsuko joined in. "And just because you're related to someone like that, people treat you like your special or some shit!"

"And in the end all you get is a bunch of bullies!" Retsuko and Ilima said in unison.

At this point they had gone from awkward acquaintances, to best friends in under a minute.

Via and Kyu could also relate. Their families were known for specific things and they had also been treated as they were special.

Actually on second thought...

Yeah, their families treated them like shit.

Once Ilima and Retsuko finished their rant about celebrity life, Ilima took them deeper into the route.

They passed a bridge with a waterfall and tropical trees were everywhere they looked.

"Kyu, why didn't you tell me you knew captain Ilima?" Via asked.

"Well you and Retsuko never asked." Kyu replied, shrugging her off.

Ilima continued to lead them through a meadow filled with beautiful yellow flowers, and through a cave with astounding rock patterns. The group stopped at a pond covered by trees, kind of like an oasis outside of a desert.

A trial guide wearing a bikini with the island challenge symbol on it awaited them at the cave exit.

"Oh hey Ilima. Back for some more training?" she asked.

"No, I'm just helping some friends," Ilima told the woman.

She looked at the small group of Retsuko, Kyu and Via.

"Oh hey Kyu! You've grown so much since you came here with Tachi!" she exclaimed, giving Kyu a big hug.

"Wait, you know her?" Retsuko asked.

"Well yeah why wouldn't I know my cousin?" Kyu asked in a sarcastic tone.

"OH IM SORRY, BUT HAS ANYONE IN ANY ANIME, WEBCOMIC, OR FANFICTION EVER HAD AN HEALTHY AND ALIVE FAMILY!" Via exclaimed.

"Stay in character!" Retsuko and Kyu both whisper-yelled to Via.

"Err-Welcome to the Melemele Mini-Oasis!" Kyu's cousin told Retsuko and Via, trying to ignore that they were attempting to break the fourth wall of reality.

By now Ilima was more than confused about his current situation. He rushed the three fourth wall breakers to an island in the middle of the oasis.

He then proceeded to pull a book off his pouch and read from it.

"The melemele oasis is a breeding ground for many Pokemon that live on this island, so trainers mostly come to catch a new Pokemon to add to their roster." Ilima told the trio.

Kyu had been here several times before so he had already gone ahead, looking for Pokemon.

Ilima explained the rules of the area and finally, Retsuko headed out to find a pokemon to add to his team.

"Retsuko!" Ilima called. He'd caught up to Retsuko who left their group without warning.

Retsuko turned and looked back at Ilima.

"Retsuko, you should try getting a fletchling to add to your team. It would benefit you to have a good fire type by the time you get to akala, and your next major battle is with Hala." Ilima told him.

"Ilima thanks for the help, but I'm just gonna do it my way." Retsuko said, surprising Ilima. "

"Okay then, do what you must."

Retsuko and Ilima parted ways and Retsuko made his way into the forest.

Retsuko walked over to a small den and looked inside. Instantly a Yungoos jumped straight out and tried to scratch his face.

"Woah!" He yelled as he fell to the ground, narrowly avoiding the attack.

The Yungoos jumped backwards and hissed at him.

"So it's a fight you want." Retsuko said, pulling out Kuu's pokeball.

He threw it and out came his Rowlet.

The Yungoos charged at Kuu with a tackle and Kuu dodged.

"Use Peck!" Retsuko ordered.

Kuu charged at the Yungoos beakfirst and collided with it, sending it into the wall.

The yungoos tried to get back up but couldn't as it has taken too much damage.

"Umm maybe we're too overleveled," Retsuko said to Kuu.

"Row!" Kuu trilled happily.

The next battle was very similar to the first, the Yungoos jumped on Retsuko's head and Kuu destroyed it in a battle.

"Yeah we're overlaeveled."

Retsuko and Kuu continued down the path until they crossed a pit with a wooden plank.

He and Kuu kept walking until he passed a group of Pokemon.

There was a Pikipeck and a Grubbin having an intense battle and a crowd of other Pokemon watching it.

"Sick!" Retsuko and another person said in unison.

Retsuko looked up across from him stood a girl who looked about his age.

She had black hair and wore a cap with two purple symbols on it. She also wore a white tank top with another black sleeveless shirt underneath.

She wore a red belt, and headphones with the same colour, and to finish it off she wore black sweatpants and sneakers that matched her outfit.

"Who are you?" Retsuko asked the girl.

"Who's asking?!" the girl snapped back.

"The name's Retsuko," Retsuko told her, holding out his hand.

She took it. "Leinani." Leinani told Retsuko.

Retsuko let go and folded his arms behind his head.

"So what brings you here?" Retsuko asked Leinani.

"I just beat my first gym leader so I came to melemele to train." Leinani explained.

"Oh. Well I just finished my first trial and I'm here to train for my fight against my gramps!" Retsuko said, happily.

"Didn't ask for your life story." Leinani said arrogantly.

"Well fuck you too," Retsuko snapped back.

Leinani's eyes widened. "What did you just say to me?!" she asked.

"I told you to fuck off. Arrogant motherfuckers like you are exactly what my gramps trained me not to be!" Retsuko told Leinani.

"I don't think you know who I am but little kids like you need to shut up in my presence. Besides, who's this gramps of yours? I could beat the snot out of that old geezer!" Leinani told Retsuko. Retsuko

At this point Retsuko was getting tired of his new acquaintance.

"Well, if you wanna know who my gramps is then you'd be happy to know that he's the kahuna of this island." Retsuko said calmly.

Leinani froze up. "If your grandpa is the kahuna, then Kala must be your cousin!" Leinani said excitedly.

"Yeah she is. And?"

"Tell me everything you know about her!" Leinani demanded.

"Why should I after everything you said? Also, you're way too weak to fight her of all people." Retsuko said. He didn't mean to sound like there was no hope of her winning but...

Retsuko took another glance at her.

Yeah, she ain't winning against Kala anytime.

Then Retsuko got an idea.

"I'll tell ya everything I know IF you can beat me in a battle." Retsuko said, smirking. He didn't want to be arrogant, but every Pokemon he'd fought since he beat the totem either it one shouted or ran away in his presence.

"HA! That'll be easy! Me, DJ and Shure are gonna kick your asses!" Leinani said confidently.

Retsuko shook his head. "No, for the fight we'll be using those two Pokemon fighting over there." Retsuko said. He pointed to the Pikipeck and Grubbin who were still fighting, despite Retsuko and Leinani's bickering.

"Too scared to fight me normally, eh?"

"Not really, I just wanna test ya."

Retsuko held out his hand. "Up for a challenge?" he said smiling.

"Don't waste my time. I don't wanna beat you so bad that you quit already," Leinani said.

"Oh, I'm Ready, Ready To kick your ass!"

Season 1 Chapter 6

"Oh, I'm ready!" Retsuko told Leinani.

He grabbed a pokeball off his belt and prepared to catch the Pikipek.

Leinani did the same.

Now it was a chance battle on who could catch the Pikipek first.

Retsuko watched patiently, trying to scout out any openings.

Then he saw it.

Retsuko quickly enlarged his pokeball and threw it at the Pikipek, much to Leinani's surprise.

She tried to intercept the throw with her pokeball but Retsuko's aim was too good.

The ball made contact with the bird Pokemon and absorbed it in a big blue mass of energy.

The ball shook once.

Retsuko crossed his fingers.

It shook again.

Leinani clenched up.

It shook one last time.

At this point Leinani was mentally panicking.

The pokeball stopped shaking and made a ding sound indicating that the Pikipek had been caught.

"Yes!" Retsuko exclaimed.

He ran over to his pokeball and picked it up.

He then proceeded to mock Leinani.

"Okay, Okay! Modest, ever heard of it?" Leinani yelled.

Retsuko noticed what he was doing . "Oh. Yeah. Sorry?"

"Whatever."

"I said sorry!"

Leinani ignored Retsuko and walked over to the now very confused Grubbin.

"Hey!" she called to it.

"Grubb?" it wondered as it looked up at the human towering above it. It's eyes widened when it noticed that this large human was a trainer.

Leinani grabbed a pokeball and enlarged it. "I'm gonna catch you now. Don't freak out," she said. She began to ease her way closer to the Grubbin, trying her hardest not to startle it.

One she deemed the moment to be right, Leinani threw her pokeball at the Grubbin. It connected with Grubbin and pulled it inside with a flash of blue energy. The pokemon inside fought with the device trying to capture it, until it went still and made a ding sound, indicating that it had been caught.

Both trainers pulled out their pokedexes ( In Retsuko's case he pulled out his phone and used the pokedex app) and pressed the button on their pokeball against the back of their respective devices. The pokedexes scanned the inside contents of the pokeballs, and gave Retsuko and Leinani the information they needed.

"Female! Leinani exclaimed. "Mud Slap, String Shot, Bug Bite and Bite!"

Retsuko read through the information on his new Pikipek and learned that it was a male, and knew the moves Rock Smash, Peck, Bullet Seed, and Double team, and Echoed Voice.

"C'mon out, Pikipek!" Retsuko yelled while throwing his pokeball up into the air. It exploded open and the small bird Pokemon that he had caught appeared. It glided into the ground and preened it's feathers.

"Go, Grubbin!" Leinani said, as her pokeball exploded open and her newest Pokemon appeared on the battlefield.

She began to strategise. Since I have the type disadvantage I need to be smart about this. I remember learning that Grubbin are pretty fast though so that could make up for it.' she continued to ramble about the possibilities.

Retsuko took his pre-battle time to befriend his Pikipek.

"So Mr. Pikipeck, what should I call you?" Retsuko asked, staring at his new Pokemon.

He got no response.

"How about Ari?" he asked again.

This time he got a response, with his Pikipek nodding its head and flapping its wings.

Retsuko chuckled. "Okay, Ari it is!"

"Are you two done now?" Leinani asked.

"Yup!"

"Then let's get this started," Leinani said, cracking her knuckles.

"Ladies first," Retsuko replied, bowing.

"Then please go first ma'am." Leinani said slyly. She snickered at her own joke.

"Even if you did just completely disrespect me, you still gave me the free turn. Ari uses bullet seeds!" Retsuko shouted.

His Pikipeck, Ari opened its beak and spit out about a dozen seeds, all moving at bullet speed.

"He already named his Pokemon?" Leinani asked herself, mentally."

Unfortunately, thanks to Leinani thinking instead of fighting, Grubbin got hit by every single one of the seeds that Pikipeck had shot at it.

The 'thud' Grubbin made when it got knocked into a nearby tree snapped her back to reality. "O-Oh."

"Nice!" Retsuko exclaimed, giving Ari a thumbs up.

Ari responded by chirping happily. He didn't fully understand what was going on, or who Retsuko really was, but what Ari did know is that Retsuko didn't mean any harm to it.

Now it was Leinani's turn to choose a move.

"Try a Bug Bite!" She ordered.

Without hesitation, Leinani's Grubbin charged at Ari.

Ari took to the skies to avoid the attack, but Grubbin jumped into the air (which was very impressive because of the size of its legs) and latched onto Ari with its pincers.

"Shake her off with a Nosedive Peck!" Retsuko told Ari.

Ari knew exactly what to do and flew up to the highest possible altitude it could handle, with Grubbin holding on to it for dear life.

Then he started to descend quickly, bringing Grubbin along for the ride.

At this rate Leinani was going to lose the battle!

She thought quickly, trying to find a way out of this bad situation.

Then she got an idea.

"Grubbin use your weight to slam 'em down!"

During her and Ari's rapid decline, Grubbin used her body weight to turn the tables by applying some downward force and letting gravity do the rest.

Ari hit the ground with a loud 'Thud' and laid there motionless.

Leinani beamed, and looked at her Grubbin.

She kneeled and held out her hand. "Nice one little guy."

Her Grubbin cracked a smile (which wasn't visible because of its pincers) and crawled onto Leinani's hand, signalling it's approval of its new trainer.

Leinani looked up at Retsuko. "How do you feel now that I've put you in your place!" she said cockily.

"Actually...

Retsuko pointed to Ari who was standing and ready to go again.

"What?! I could've sworn we K. it!" Leinani said, confused.

"You didn't knock out Ari , you knocked out his clone." Retsuko explained.

Then Leinani remembered.

Right before Ari hit the ground, a cloud of white smoke appeared and she heard a thud noise.

"Fine then! Grubbin uses string shot!" Leinani ordered.

"Counter with Echoed Voice!"

Grubbin shot out a stick string of web fluid right at Ari, but Ari jumped back and opened his mouth to start screeching.

The noise was so loud it dissipated the string and woke up a nest of fletchling nearby.

Leinani covered her ears and so did Retsuko.

Grubbin however, did not have that privilege and got hit by the full volume of the sound.

"Now use Peck!" Retsuko finished.

Ari caught an incoming gust of wind and used it to fly straight at Grubbin. His beak started to lightly glow with white energy as he raced towards Grubbin.

"Dodge!"

Ari flew much faster then Leinani or Grubbin had anticipated. Grubbin tried to scuttle out of the way but Ari landed a spot-on super effective hit, knocking her back a few feet.

"Dang it! Use Bite!" Leinani yelled. She knew if she failed now she would really regret it.

"Lets try this again. Finish it with Rock Smash!" Retsuko ordered, smiling.

Grubbin scuttled as fast as it could towards Ari but he grabbed it with its talons before she could do anything. Then he released Grubbin midair and let it start falling towards the ground.

Leinani accepted her fate.. She was going to lose. "Well shit. That's gonna hurt a lot."

Ari Nosedived right at Grubbin and his beak started to glow a brighter white then it did earlier. Within seconds, she crashed into Grubbin, sending them both into the ground and causing a small dust explosion, cloaking them momentarily.

When the dust settled it revealed that Grubbin layed limp on the ground, while Ari was perfectly fine.

The battle was over. Retsuko had won. Leinani had lost.

After Retsuko defeated Leinani and won his first trainer vs. trainer battle, he decided that it was time for him to get his first Z ring from his Grandfather.

He held the Z crystal he got from Tapu Koko in his hands.

"I'm so excited," he exclaimed. "Gramps taught me how to use Z moves a long time ago." Retsuko said as he, Kyu and Via walked through the streets of melemele.

"Are you sure it will be that easy?" Kyu asked.

"What do You mean?"

"Well I mean, you can't do a Z move if your mind is stuck in the past or in emotional pain and Bandara and Lu-?" Kyu started.

"They're gone now and I've moved on. You should too." Retsuko interjected coldly.

"But Retsuko they-"

"Oh just fuck off!" Retsuko yelled.

Via, being left in the dark about Retsuko's family situation, just wanted to calm them down.

She looked around the melemele shopping district to find something that would change their attitudes.

A few stores ahead she spotted a brand malasada store that they used to go to when they were still in school.

"How about we go get some malasadas?" she asked.

"Whatever!" Retsuko and Kyu said in unison.

They went to the malasada shop, ordered their food, and ate in silence.

Just as they finished eating Retsuko broke the tension and apologised.

"Look guys, I'm sorry but when I think about what happened it hurts a lot and I blame myself." he said.

"Retsuko we both know that what happened isn't your fault." Via comforted Retsuko, patting him on the shoulder.

Retsuko took her hand off his shoulder. "Ya think i don't know that. Mom and Dad have told me about a billion times that it wasn't my fault." Retsuko explained.

"But i still have a lingering feeling-

"It's complicated, Besides we all have family issues, to some extent." Kyu said, looking at Via.

She turned and stared out of the window, trying to avoid eye contact with him.

The trio paid for their food and continued on their way to Iki town, the site of Retsuko's grand trial.

Once they made it past route 3 and to the town gates Kyu noticed someone on the path training with a Decidueye.

"Isn't that your cousin Hau?" he asked Retsuko, scratching his head.

He got closer and confirmed who it was, the green hair giving it away.

"Hey man!" Retsuko called out.

The man looked up, and when he saw retsuko the frown on his face disappeared. "There's my favorite little little cousin!" He called back.

He looked pretty similar to Retsuko, having his caramel chocolate complexion and his dark green hair.

He wore a sort of yellow robe, patterned with melemele island's signature flower, baggy white pants with large yellow drawstrings. He also wore yellow flip flops and had his beautiful white Z ring to finish it off.

"So you're finally a trainer?" He asked.

"Yup I've even won my first Z-crystal, and my first real pokemon battle!" he replied.

Retsuko took the Z crystal out of his hoodie pouch and held it up, showing him the white stone.

"Sick!" Hau replied patting retsuko on the back. "Keeping the family tradition alive, Eh?" Hau asked.

"What do you mean?" Kyu asked.

Hau turned to him and smiled. "Well not many people go to the island challenge anymore. We get way less competitors than we used to, especially since we're in melemele." "Gotta make Dad and Uncle Hala proud." Retsuko said, pounding his hand on his chest.

Hau laughed. "How about you two? Have ya won any badges or crystals he asked.

"Nope, but I'm gonna challenge Plumeria in Akala," Kyu said.

Then I hope we can be good rivals, I expect great things from the two of you.

Retsuko and Kyu groaned.

"Guys I get that people always compare you to your relatives, but you should take that as a compliment." Hau said with a smile.

"We used to, But it's always Nagato this Nagato that and Tachi this Tachi that." Retsuko said.

"That's whatcha get for being born into the Kourada" Hau said with a laugh.

Hau then led the three of them to the kahuna's house in the heart of Iki town.

"Tutu it's me!" he called as he knocked on the door.

In about a minute a chubby tanned man wearing a yellow flower print robe and grey sweatpants walked out.

He looked down at Retsuko and saw his bright smile.

"So you're finally ready!" he yelled.

The man standing in front of them was none other than the kahuna of melemele island.

"So you're finally ready!" he said loudly.

"Gotdamn you're as loud as ever Uncle Hala." Retsuko replied, sticking his fingers in his ears.

"Just like your mother!" he said, louder than before.

"How am i related to this boombox?" Retsuko thought.

"Tutu, Little R's finally here to get his Z ring from you." Hau said beaming.

"Oh is that so?" Hala said, his tone quieter than before.

"Yup first crystal right here." Retsuko said, holding up the white stone.

"That's a beautiful Normalium Z." Kyu said as Via nodded her head in agreement.

"Yes it is!" Hala agreed with a thumbs up. "Lets get inside and start! Hala said, clapping his hands together.

They went inside the kahuna house (which Retsuko and Rau were very familiar with) and went inside a room with a red door.

Inside of a room there was a workshop with Z rings lined up against the walls.

"Holy, Z ring heaven." Via said.

"I remember when I got my first Z ring" Hau said as he thought of the past.

"Yeah emphasis on FIRST." Retsuko said with a laugh.

"That was accidental!" Hau yelled back, his normally tan complexion was red like a tomato berry.

Hala ignored the arguing cousins and opened a black case, revealing a black bracelet with a plate attached to it.

"That's- Retsuko said. "Yes your grandfather's Z ring I know." Hala said sternly.

"Retsuko, he died trying to protect you and- Hala started.

"Don't say her name!" Retsuko yelled. Tears were forming in his eyes.

"Yes I know." Hala said. "Retsuko this belongs to you now." Hala said as he handed Retsuko the Z ring.

"Thanks!" Retsuko said, wiping his tears.

"I won't let you down again Gramps!" Retsuko thought, as he slipped the bracelet onto his left wrist.

"I also have a Z ring for you Kyu," Hala said.

"Wait, i haven't even beat my first gym yet." Kyu replied, waving his hands back and forth.

"Don't worry, After what you did for Tapu Fini you deserve it." Hala said, patting Kyu on the back.

Of course hala didn't notice how powerful he was and had knocked Kyu out of breath.

"Thanks" he wheezed.

Hala then went back to the case and took out another Z ring, and this time

It was purple with a gold plate on the top.

"Here you are." Hala said, as he handed Kyu the bracelet.

He then turned to Via.

Nope! I'm good in the Z ring department, she said, waving her hands.

Alright then Retsuko tomorrow we start our battle Hala said pointing at Retsuko.

Uncle hala, you have no idea how long I've waited to hear you say that! Retsuko said smiling.
