Chapter 4: A Door To Another Realm
The doctor sighed and shook his head. "I can't understand this." He stated, as he looked through Izuku's charts and reports. "Your son was supposed to be quirk-less, a crash like that would have killed him."
"Well, I'm glad it didn't." Inko replied as she gently squeezed her son's hand. "My son is alive and that's all that matters." "Mrs. Midoriya, this is beyond my comprehension." The doctor replied. "Your son not only survived a car collision but lifted it off the ground as if it was made of paper."
"I need to do some more tests just to be sure." He added, but Inko grasped her son's hand. "No!" She exclaimed. "No more tests!" "My son has already been through enough!" She sternly added. "I'm taking him home!"
"Mrs. Midoriya, please..." The doctor replied. "We need to know exactly what happened?" "I don't care!" Inko added. "I'm taking my son home!" The doctor sighed. "Well, at least let me consult with my colleagues first." He replied.
Inko nodded. "Of course." She replied as the doctor turned to leave. As he left, Inko turned to her son. "Are you sure you are alright, darling?" She asked in a concerned expression. "I'm fine, mom." Izuku replied. "You don't have to worry."
"I'm sorry..." Inko replied, swallowing hard. "I was...just scared of losing you." "When I saw that car crash into you," She added, trying to stop the tears in her eyes. "I thought...I thought you would..."
"It's alright, mom." Izuku smiled as he told hold of her hand again. "I'm fine, after everything that happened, I-." "IZUKU!" An energetic voice cried out before the door swung open and a brown blur darted across the room and leapt onto Izuku's bed.
Soon, the latter felt a pair of arms around him and something nuzzling against his cheek. Izuku wasn't surprised to see Ochako smiling brightly at him. "I came to see you again!" "Hi, Ochako!" Izuku chuckled as he felt Ochako's soft brown hair brush against his face. "Good to see you again!"
"I'm so sorry." A nurse said as she stood in the doorway, panting slightly. "I tried to stop her but she just ran past me." "It's alright." Izuku assured her. "She's a friend of mine." "Hello there, Ochako!" Inko said cheerfully as she ruffled the girl's hair. "You wanted to see Izuku again?"
"Mhm!" Ochako replied, nodding happily and continued to snuggle up to Izuku. "I'll come to see Izuku every day if I can!" "Hello there!" Ochako's mother called out with a friendly grin as she and her husband stood at the doorway. "May, we come in?"
"Ayame, Kazuya!" Inko replied with a smile, getting up from her seat and approaching the door. "Come in!" "It's nice to see you two again!" She added. "Same here." Kazuya replied. "We came to thank Izuku for his help."
"Well, Ochako and Izuku are getting along just fine as you can see." Inko pointed out. "Yes...and it's all thanks to Izuku that Ochako is alive..." Ayame added. "If it weren't for him...our daughter would have been..." She faltered as she wiped the tears forming in her eyes.
"There...there..." Kazuya soothed as he gently patted his wife's shoulders gently. "I know how you feel." "It's because of Izuku that our daughter is alive." He added. "So do I." Inko explained, smiling gently as she glanced at the two kids.
Ochako was recalling today's events, with Izuku nodding and laughing occasionally. "I have a feeling that Izuku will do something special when he grows up, and I'm sure Ochako will be there with him." She pointed out
"I think you're on to something." Kazuya chuckled lightly. "Still, if you ever need any help, you let us know." "Don't say that." Inko assured her, putting her hand up. "You owe us nothing, money is already tight with your family. All that matters is that my son is safe."
"True..." Ayame replied. "Why don't we have some coffee and talk about something less serious?" She suggested. "That, we can agree." Kazuya added as the adults went out of the room, leaving Izuku and Ochako alone.
"Looks like our parents are stepping out for a bit." Izuku pointed out, glancing down on Ochako and smiling. "What do you want to talk about?" "Hey, Izuku." Ochako mumbled softly, her cheerful disposition. "Are you...really alright?"
"I am." Izuku assured her. "The doctor said there were no complications or any internal injuries in me, so I'm alright." It was then he noticed Ochako gripping his blanket tightly and looking like she was about to break down in tears. "Ochako...what's wrong?" He asked in concern.
"Izuku...I'm sorry..." She whispered, as a few tears ran down her cheeks. "It's all my fault you got hurt." "If I hadn't ran onto the street, you wouldn't have-" "It's alright, Ochako." Izuku told her, patting her head gently. "Please don't blame yourself." "It was really my fault." He added. "If anything, I'm the one to-"
"OW! Quit hitting me, ya damn hag!" Izuku was cut off when he heard yelling outside the door of his room. "Touch me again and you're dead!" "Shut it!" Another voice yelled in response, this time more adult and feminine. "Talk back to me again, and you're grounded for a year!"
"Oh dear..." Izuku sighed and fell back down on his bed again. "I know who that is..." The door opened and a woman about Inko's age stepped in with a young boy. They both had spiky ash blonde hair and red eyes, with the woman ushering the boy in with an annoyed expression.
"Izuku, who are these people?" Ochako asked as she glanced at the newcomers. "They're really loud and look kind of scary." "That's Katsuki Bakugo and his mom, Mitsuki." Izuku replied, watching Mitsuki guide Katsuki to his bed.
After patting Ochako on the head, he smiled at his new visitors. "Hello, Mrs. Bakugo! Kacchan!" He called. "I told you not to call me that!" Katsuki growled, stamping his foot. "You stupid-" *WHACK!* He was cut off when Mitsuki whacked him upside on the head.
"Oi, your friend is in the hospital!" Mitsuki exclaimed. "Be nice to him!" Taking a breath to calm herself down, she turned and smiled at Izuku. "How are you doing, Izuku?" She asked. "I'm fine." Izuku replied with a thumbs-up and a grin. "The doctor found no complications and I would be free to leave soon!"
"That's good to hear." Mitsuki added, before pulling up a chair and sitting beside Izuku's bed. "Katsuki was so worried about you, he practically begged me to come and see you." "I was not!" Katsuki yelled, his face red. "There's no way I'll be worried about Deku!"
"Oi! I told you to drop that nickname already!" Mitsuki hissed, glaring at her son. "I don't think 'Deku' is a bad nickname." Ochako spoke up as she smiled brightly at Izuku. "It has a 'you can do it' attitude. I kinda like it."
"Heh...I never thought of it like that..." Izuku muttered, blushing lightly. After a few moments, he smiled brightly and nodded his head. "It's okay, Mrs. Bakugo." He added. "I don't mind being called Deku."
"Oh, and who might this cutie be?" Mitsuki asked as she playfully reached out and pinched Ochako's cheek, causing her to blush in embarrassment. "I don't think I've seen you hanging around little Izuku before."
"This is Ochako Uraraka." Izuku replied. "She's...the girl I saved." "Ah...so this is the girl you risked your life to save." Mitsuki added, brushing some hair from Ochako's face. "You're one lucky girl, Izuku risked his life to save you."
Leaning closer, Mitsuki whispered into Ochako's ear. "Make sure you keep him close. I have a feeling that many girls will be fighting for Izuku's attention in the future." "Huh?" Ochako asked, cocking her head to one side in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
"You'll understand when you are older." Mitsuki replied with a wink before she sat back down again. "So, Izuku, your mom told me you met with All-Might." She pointed out. "What's he like?"
"He's so cool..." Izuku explained, his eyes lighting up in excitement. "He helped me to get to the hospital and he kept me company." "Yeah right!" Katsuki scoffed. "You've never even met All-Might!"
"DID SOMEONE MENTION MY NAME?!" A booming and boisterous voice echoed moments before the door swung open. Katsuki's jaw dropped as All-Might himself ducked underneath the doorway and waltzed into the room.
"Hello, young Midoriya!" All-Might exclaimed, smiling widely as he strutted towards Izuku's bed and gave him a friendly salute. "Hope you are feeling well today!" "Hey, All-Might! I'm doing great!" Izuku cheered, practically bouncing on his bed. "It's great to see you again!"
"It's great to see you again too!" All-Might exclaimed, letting out a hearty laugh with his hands on his hips. "I'll always have time to visit my biggest fan!" Bending down, he gently patted Ochako on the head with his massive hand. "And it's great to see you again, little Ochako!"
"Heh...Heh...Hello, Mr All-Might!" Ochako squealed as she hid her face in her hands. "HA! HA! You two are so adorable!" All-Might laughed before turning to Mitsuki and Bakugo, the latter who had been standing shell-shocked the whole time.
"Oho..." All-Might asked, crouching down in front of Katsuki. "And who might you be? A friend of young Midoriya's?" "Y-Y-You're...A-A...All...M-M-Might..." Katsuki stuttered out as his breathing grew faster and his legs wobbled.
*THUD!*
Moments later, Katsuki was on the ground unconscious. "Oh, geez..." Mitsuki muttered, as she stood up from her seat and picked her son up. "Damn kid..." She added as she placed her son on the chair she had been sitting. "Getting overexcited so easy."
"Don't worry. He's fine." She told a concerned All-Might. "He's just surprised to see you." "See..." Izuku grinned as he leaned off his bed to look at Mitsuki and Katsuki. "I told you I knew All-Might!"
"By the way, Izuku..." Mitsuki addressed the latter. "How did you survive the car crash?" Izuku grew thoughtful. "Well, I think it's because of this." He explained, taking his amulet from the desk and holding it to them.
Both Mitsuki and Ochako looked at the strange amulet with interest. "It's pretty" Ochako pointed out in wonder. "Where did you get it?" "I don't know." Izuku explained. "It comes with this book." He added, showing them the book of myths and heroes.
"Myths and Legends from around the World..." Mitsuki read the title out loud. "Sounds interesting." "I know..." Izuku replied. "An old lady from the bookstore gave it to me, an old lady with grey eyes." "Grey eyes..." Mitsuki repeated. "That's odd..."
"Either way, she told me this book would teach me to be a great hero." Izuku added. "She even asked me why I needed a quirk to be a hero." This surprised the others. "Young Midoriya..." All-Might replied with a smile. "I may not know who this person is but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that you are a hero."
"When it comes to being a hero, one does not need to rely on quirks but on his judgement and desire to help others in need." He added. "You were willing to risk your life to save this girl without a care for your own safety."
"He's right." Ochako replied with a smile of her own. "You saved my life." She took his hand with hers. "You have every right to be a hero as much as anyone." "I for one, agree too." Mitsuki smirked. "You deserve to be a hero as anyone."
Izuku smiled softly at the encouragement from his idol and his new friends. "Thank...you..." He whispered before he placed the amulet around his neck. Little did he knew that tonight would change his life.
(Back at home... hours later)
Izuku sighed as he plopped down on his bed in his room. After some consultation from the doctors, he was free to go back home. Once back home, he took a long shower and after a hearty dinner, all he wanted to do was rest.
However, one thing still bothered him, the strange old woman and the mysterious amulet. He still had it around his neck and he placed the book on the desk next to his bed. "I believe it can give you inspiration to become the hero you want to be." The old woman had said.
"What did she mean by that?" Izuku muttered. He looked at the strange markings on the amulet, his thumb rubbing against them. "How can I be a hero without a quirk...?" He looked at the book on his desk. "and what does it have to do with this book?"
He opened up the book and flipped through it. Inside were stories and pictures of various gods and heroes from myths all over the world. There was Hercules, the strong man of Greece, Mulan, the female general of China and Prince Rama, the skilled archer from India.
"Woah..." Izuku whispered in wonder. "The old woman was right...these heroes existed long before quirks were discovered." As he looked through the pages and admired the pictures, he noticed something strange at the back of the book.
On it was some words that said:
A hero with a pure soul and a noble heart
Will receive the power of the gods.
"Power of the gods...?" Izuku asked in confusion. "What could it mean?" He looked at his strange amulet. "What do you mean?" He asked the amulet. Suddenly, the markings on the amulet began to glow in a strange golden light.
Izuku gasped sharply as the amulet glowed brightly and a beam of golden light shot out from it into the ceiling. Soon, the whole room was illuminated by the golden light. "Wh-What's happening?!" He screamed, covering his eyes.
Soon, the whole room exploded in a big flash of golden light and Izuku was engulfed in the light show. When the light faded away, Izuku was gone. All that was left was the book of Myths and a strange marking on the ceiling, the mark of Izuku's amulet
