Snow was weird on the ocean. A frozen guest that came and in the dark where it would flutter from yellow lamp light to black ocean depths unseen, never melting but embraced. Flitter, flutter, waft, drift, draft.

"Izaya?"

"Oh, yes Shizu-chan?"

Shizuo raised a brow, he was holding a rag above a warm water basin.

"For your piercings."

Izaya, donning new golden rings he had gotten as a gift, walked slowly over mind still uneased. Words of the nun swirled, embraced the dark parts of his mind's eye. Of course he had assured Shizuo he was not dwelling, but the thoughts drifted in and out into embracing consciousness. The boat lulled slightly, moving to the breathing of waves, he watched the basin ripple and allowed Shizuo to clean his ears. The captain was so gentle, washing and ensuring no infection nor harm would hurt his precious lover. The moment was so quiet, dreamlike. So close to perfect.

"Could you read me it again?" Shizuo asked with a small smile, brushing a lock of black raven hair behind Izaya's ear. Damn, even his ear was irresistible, Shizuo had to pull himself back from the longing to bite it, the longing to taste Izaya and hear his sultry moans.

"Of course," Izaya knew just what he meant, and after a long moment where they shared the most tender kisses, he walked to the shelf and pulled the novel called 'L'appel de l'océan' then joined Shizuo in bed. "I wonder now, what truth in our hearts vow. What did we before our love doth bloomed? What did you, before being to me, as though a rib protecting my gentle heart? Tell me not of old summers nights, but of now and ever-after now. My fair love, oh, how nothing shone until tonight, have the sirens never sung to me as they do now? Oh!" He turned the page carefully as he had done so many times before, "You who've shown me gentle sea. Have I never seen such eyes til this day? Have I never heard the siren's song."

"Beautiful..."

"You love that part so much."

Shizuo hummed, he was in a cream tunic and black pants, shoes kicked off a while ago. Just the bare bit of collar and skin was visible from the angle Izaya had, and Izaya kissed the top of Shizuo's head allowing the captain to rest against his neck.

"What comes next?"

Izaya now hummed, they were at peace for now. He began to read: "White sand, distant shores, waves capped with foam. A salty spray, your hand in mine. Oh gentle sea, oh gentle sea. Do not take what heart belongs to me, my heart's fragile twin, a jewel of my eye, deliver them back from pulling tide. Let us roam, hand be tied, let us sail to islands hidden. Let me pull them from the depths, let us swim in each other's embrace. Oh gentle sea, bring to me the hand which belongs in mine. Hark, and feel the salty spray, capped waves with foam, distant shoes, white sand. Hand in hand. I bid thank you, my heart's twin, hand in hand with mine."

"Not as good as the other one."

"I'm partial to this one," Izaya smirked.

"How?"

"Well, the other one is falling in love, this one is begging to preserve it and keep it in hand. And it ends with it in hand."

"Siren one is better."

"What about this one," Izaya offered, "I want you to look upon my eye, In our moments together long, In our words, our hands connected. Our breaths counted, our love undoubted. Trust me, meet my eye, My most precious jewel, I will polish well. And our mornings will be salty sweet, No one loves you as deep as I. Take my hand in yours, put your hand in mine."

The captain yawned a little dramatic, and grinned as Izaya seemed to pout.

"Sire one is the best one."

"Uh huh," Izaya rolled his eyes, but began to read the other poems in his head allowing his lover to slowly slip into slumber. Which Shizuo tried his best not to, but Izaya was warm and the cold air that seeped through wooded cracks allured him closer under the blankets. His eyes fluttered closed, and soon he was breathing deeply.

It was strange how strong a man he was that these moments he was so weak.

Izaya felt at peace. Of course there were things to be bothered and upset over, but the moment was now. He was complete.

He placed down the book, only to just watch Shizuo sleep.

It was a while before the raven picked up the close-by lantern and blew it out plunging them into comfortable night. The darkness still did not affect him, and he watched the crew move around smirking as Shinra was making wild gestures at Celty, it only grew when he spotted Tamari asleep with sewing needles still in her hand, but his smile did falter seeing Datobi and Jio.

Despite it being a while now their attack on him made his skin crawl. Yet, as he watched them he saw something odd. They were trading money with another crew member, Elias. Elias did not go with them but was speaking, then parting.

Izaya shifted a little to watch the man go to a different deck, the lowest part that was only storage. He messed with something there and soon Izaya felt his eyes strain.

He thought, 'what were they doing?' but reasoned, they were pirates, maybe they were just gambling.

And he slept soundly on that thought, despite knowing it definitely was not true.

The next day Izaya, Shizuo, Kadota and Tom decided on what to do next. Winter had its grip on the crew and they were begging for warmer tides, so in the end it was decided to head south. And to head south quickly they did. What truly made the decision to take such a long trip was that Shizuo had noticed Izaya's shivers and did not rest until the sun beat down upon them again giving way to previous warm days.

They found an open bay, docked peacefully and off again the pirates were to do their trades.

Izaya, as usual, was left on ship to observe them from the crow's nest, a spot he still felt serenely of. Every time he was up there the moment was too short, it was indescribably beautiful, indescribably memorable yet he'd come down and immediately long to be up again. It began to remind him of sex.

That moment of climax where you long and cling, allowing yourself to experience it then it's gone with the words that could only describe it.

He shivered, oh how he was enjoying sex. Shizuo was masterful, powerful, passionate and hungry.

Izaya laughed at himself, how the hell could Shizuo be gone and yet make him so horny. Was he an adolescent boy again?

"You know he'll be angry seeing you up there!"

Shinra, wearing new blue coat, called up covering his eyes with his palm to shield from the sun.

"What he doesn't know won't hurt him!"

"What if I tell him?"

"Then I hurt you."

Izaya began to climb down, it was a beautiful day. Rarely were there better, he had been thinking. The past two weeks of long distance sailing had taken a toll, but it was days just like this that made the toiling all the worth it.

"Did you get what I asked?"

"I did, a snuff box with lock and key." Shinra showed him, and Izaya took it in approval.

"Merci," then up he went to the captain's quarters where he settled down in Shizuo's comfy chair to write a letter to his sisters.

He wrote: 'I hope this finds you well as I am. Inside the box is six weeks payments I have gotten as a reader and translator. Do not spend it all on dresses, but do not spend it only on books. I wish I could ask how your Christmas was, but I do not know where I will be next. Just know, I am safe, and I sleep worrying about you both but I trust you two to be wise. I have to keep my letters light, so for now read "L'appel de l'océan" page 30 and you will understand all I wish I could say. I will write again soon, Izaya.'

As he was done and melting wax on his letter Shizuo came in and hung his hat.

"What do you have there?"

"The money I'm sending to my sisters."

Shizuo smiled, it was warm, "I'll take it to the post when it's ready."

"It just so happens I am done, my captain if you would honor me." Izaya stood, handing over the carefully protective box and letter which contained the key.

"I am always honored to do your biddings." Shizuo took it all in hand, then pulled Izaya into a soft kiss before turning to the door. "But I do expect a reward."

"Then you hurry, or it will run cold." Izaya purred knowing exactly what to do for the tall monstrous beast. However, as Shizuo left Izaya felt drawn to follow. He held Shizuo's hand for the short walk to the plank, and Shizuo looked back at him cheerfully but Izaya held no mirth all of a sudden.

Teasing words were lost on him, Izaya looked around, something was vastly wrong. His hands felt clammy, his head was slowly turning to ache, and he looked down at the water not knowing his grip had tightened. Shizuo noticed the change, swiftly handing the precious cargo of letter and box to a pirate that he ordered quickly to have it sent.

As the man trotted off ship the captain pulled Izaya away from the side.

"Hey, you alright?"

Izaya did not respond.

"Izaya?"

"Huh?" He blinked, Shizuo was outlined in sun, Izaya did not know what he had been looking at. "There was..." He looked over the side of the ship, never letting go of Shizuo's hand, "something in the water... I saw it."

"What?"

"It looked like a... thing.."

Keeping calm, which was harder than before, Shizuo tried to bring Izaya back to his room.

"Let's go in to talk."

"It's still there," Izaya let go of his hand, Shizuo regripped and pulled. "No, there's something in the water."

"I know, I know but it's dangerous," said Shizuo laced in worry plain. "Izaya?"

The boat rocked slowly, a mug slip off a railing to deck crashing with a sudden sound. Voices ran silent, even those on the docks stared to see the ropes tying the mighty Dollar seemed to have sunk. Pulled by something under the waters, under their piers, as if each fiber was an anchor.

Izaya slipped, as did Shizuo, but both kept their grips on the other as they hit the yellow wooden railing. Then at once like a rubber band being released the ship flung itself back, the men aboard gave calls and curses as many things tossed, rolled and fell, but all Shizuo cared about was Izaya who was slowly returning to how he was before.

Izaya rubbed his eyes with one hand, then let out a relieved breath.

"What just- Shizu-chan, are you alright?"

"Izaya, are you-"

"I'm fine now, I'm... sorry," Izaya offered a small slipping smile. "I bet that will come back to haunt us."

Shizuo returned it more clearly, "definitely will. I'll have to have some cannons prepared for when it does."

"Did you send my letter?"

"Yes," Shizuo walked Izaya back up the steps and into their private room, he was glad no one asked him anything as they went. "Now... about that reward?"

"Shizu-chan~" Izaya, still shaken but happy to ignore it, grinned, "I think I was clear that you would have to be the one to do it~."

"Hah?"

"I mean, I know it would be straining for a grand man like you to figure it out but-"

Shizuo kissed him hard to make him shut up, truly he was not in the mood to be teased after such a scare. He was always in the mood for Izaya though, and soon they fell into bed together pulling at clothes, becoming bare and entwined. Neither were in the desire to do anything else for the rest of the hot day, but as soon as they reached climaxes and were sweaty and spent someone knocked on the door.

Shizuo, red scratches down his back and lips kissed to bruising, pulled out of and off of Izaya. He cursed, "What?" at the door and growled into Izaya's ear, "I'll be back."

Izaya couldn't move, he had no inclination to, and mumbled something akin to, "I'll be here." But in truth he was so dazed and completed he fell asleep nearly as soon as Shizuo had dressed and gone.

Outside, Shizuo was confronted by Tom by the wheel.

"What?"

"A little grumpy, cap?"

Shizuo gave him a 'I was doing something (Izaya)' look.

"Sorry, sorry... But we, the crew and I, want to talk about what happened earlier... What happened earlier?"

"Don't know," Shizuo said, seeing Simon and Kadota walk up the steps, "I want cannons on standby the moment we leave. I also want each man tied to a life rope."

"Why?" Asked Kadota waving up Lance who was just returning with the gaggle of cooks.

"Whatever it is will most likely try to tilt us again, I don't want anyone falling off."

"Nice to see you care for us too..."

Their eyes shot to Jio, the man was listening from below hoisting new barrels of oil downwards.

"What?" He said, "it's what a lot of us are thinking, captain has a sweet-" Whatever word was next was cut off by Shizuo's foot breaking his jaw. The blond had jumped down fast, landing powerfully and staring down at the wheezing pirate.

"Speak wrongly towards me again and I will have you drowned." Shizuo stated angrily, "Simon-"

"Aye?"

"-I don't want him top side again." Ordered given, Shizuo stepped away, fuming. "You," his eyes looked to the leaders of his crew, the ones who he trusted the most, "we have a ship to sail."

"That's another thing!" Kadota knelt and peered through the railings to his captain's face, "where are we going?"

"West... We're crossing the entire ocean this time."

"Is that wise?" Asked Tom, "especially with whatever that thing was that will follow us?"

"It will be better than what we are going to try to face," said Shizuo and before they could ask he answered, "We are on the hunt for Golden Eye."

I hope you stick with me through to the end, it's been a while and I understand if no one is left. But I want this one to be completed at last

Also, all the poetry is written by me and there is no book by that name that I know of!
