A/N: A lot of thanks to all my readers! I'm so sorry I haven't been keeping up with my updates, but I pretty much ran my course with the shows years ago and interest has waned, but I never say never about story writing because who knows? Anyways, enjoy this very short and unfinished chapter I started but never finished.
Six days had gone by and the Chicago Police Department still did not have any new leads as to where Katie might be. Severide was beside himself with worry and rage. They all knew that bastard Keller had something to do with it, they just couldn't prove it yet.
Shay tried so very hard to reassure Kelly that Erin and the Chicago Police Department would find his sister and get Keller, but she just wasn't so sure either. The officers of the Chicago police department were dedicating all the time and resources they had, but she knew just how slippery a criminal like Keller could be.
All she could do was keep Kelly in constant view. She knew he probably needed his space right now, but she wouldn't let her best friend go down for doing something stupid, because he was blinded by anger. It was all so horrible though, Katie was the only family Kelly had, expect herself of course, and lately they had grown so close. The entire crew had come to like and accept Katie, and the only person Shay felt worse for than Kelly was Otis.
She thought that Otis and Kelly were one of the cutest, most awkward and dorky couples she had ever seen, but they had seemed just right and plain perfect for each other. She had never seen Otis so genuinely happy and lately he himself had seemed more mature since his relationship with Katie began. He spent way less time doing crazy antics with Cruz and everyone in the house was kind of grateful for it, but now she kind of missed it.
Otis seemed more and more somber every hour Katie was missing. He hardly spoke to anyone anymore, he was elusive and spent more time brooding than smiling nowadays. Shay would give anything to see him smiling and laughing like his crazy happy self, but she could understand the worrying and anxiety he felt, because she felt kind of the same.
Her and Lindsey had hardly spoken in the past couple of days with her being busy watching over Kelly and Lindsey working herself ragged on the case trying to catch Keller. She had been so worried about her lately. Even though she knew both her and Erin worked dangerous jobs, it didn't really hit her how much danger Lindsey would be in until this Keller case.
She had heard all the details from Severide, Lindsey, Antonio and Gabby, about how dangerous the man was. How he was a ruthless killer that the Chicago Police Department couldn't pin down and it scared her that Lindsey was going after a monster like that. It terrified her that Lindsey went after men, women, people like him, almost every day of her life. So she knew how Otis felt to a degree and knew he wasn't going to be ok until he had Katie back safe in his arms where he could watch over her all the time, no matter how irrational that thought was.
Going into work that morning no one could miss the tension that prevailed over the Firehouse, but Shay appreciated Cruz, Mouch and Hermann trying to lift everyone's spirits with their usual goofy selves, but even they tensed when they walked by Severide in the bay. He sitting at a small table in the bay by himself with staring into space, she immediately made her way towards her best friend.
He jumped as she placed a hand on his shoulder, but relaxed when he saw who it was. "Hey, it's just me", Shay said softly gently rubbing Kelly's shoulder hoping to bring some comfort to her friend, but knowing that is was probably useless. She knew he wouldn't be right again until Katie was found.
Severide let a long sigh, "Hey". Shay couldn't help but sigh with her friend. This entire situation was just really messed up, especially for Kelly who's been dealt a sucky hand for most of his life, and now the only family he really cared about was in terrible danger and he for once could be of no help.
"I know you've heard this a lot over the last couple of days and you're probably sick of hearing it, but I'm going to say it anyways. Please don't do anything rash Kelly, and don't tell me you're not thinking about it, because I know you better than anyone and as your best friend I'm telling you getting revenge is not the way to go. Believe me I want Keller to go down as bad as you do, but it's not worth your life Kelly, he's not worth it. So I'm asking you to let the police handle this, but again as your best friend I know you won't. So I guess, I'm just asking you to be safe and smart about anything that you do about this", Shay implored with her best friend, her blue eyes never leaving his the entire time she talked.
Severide stared back, glanced down at the table for a moment before he finally said, "I will, don't worry okay."
Shay was about to reply when the alarm sounded and a call came for ambulance 63; a man in distress.
"Shay!", The blonde EMT was pulled out of her thoughts and whipped her head to the right to see the concern eyes of her partner. They were in the ambulance, and Shay was driving them back to the station.
"Hey, are you okay?", Gabby asked with her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and concern. Shay shook her head once, "Yeah, I'm alright, just worried, you know, about everything with Kelly and his sister".
Gabby nodded, "Yeah it's terrible, I can't even imagine if something liked that happened to my brother and he's a cop, it's expected, but knowing someone you care about is in danger and you can't reach them must be the most awful feeling".
"I know and I'm just trying to be supportive and comforting but I know him and I know he's planning on going out and trying to deal with this thing himself and Erin and I have told him already not to get involved and get himself in trouble, but I know he's not really hearing me you know?"
Gabby nodded along to Shay, "Yeah Antonio told me the same thing, but you know how the guys are, especially firefighters, they're just not built to do nothing. Now that you mentioned it, how is Erin, like how are the two of you doing?"
Shay felt her face slip into a smile without her command at the mention of Erin, and it was the happiest she had felt for days. "We're good, we haven't spent too much time together lately with Erin working the case, but she is absolutely amazing. She's like scary perfect. She has the perfect manners, she's kind, and gentle and just full of warmth and funny. Not to mention insanely gorgeous, like who really is that perfect? She's just too much with her beautiful hazel eyes, and sexy dimples and that voice oh m…."Shay cut of her sentence and glanced to the side at Gabby who was just staring at her with her mouth open and a wide shocked but pleasantly surprised look on her face.
Her face of course went red and since she was at a stop light she felt free to cover her face in attempt to downplay her embarrassing rant.
Gabby laughed joyfully, "Wow! I don't think I have ever heard you talk about someone like that. You're right she does sound perfect. You must really like her. Aww Shay I'm so happy for you!"
"Thanks, I am happy with her, even though we haven't been dating long, I just feel like she's right for me. Like she's not perfect and neither I am but somehow it just all works, Oh my god I sound like a fucking teenager. Ugh!" Shay groaned and complained but even then, she couldn't keep the happy smile off her face.
Gabby narrowed her eyes at Shay jokingly, "Alright enough of about that, you're making me jealous.", she joked while chuckling.
Shay giggled then leaned over into Gabby's personal space to whisper, "Ohhhh don't be jealous lover, don't worry you'll always be my number one bitch", Gabby snorted and pushed Shay's face away with her palm covering the blonde's mouth.
"I'm about hoping to meet Erin tonight though, at her place, because she definitely can't come to mine, Kelly would just bombarde her, you know? I know they're working around the clock, but I want to make sure she takes a break and at least eats something." Shay commented while texting on her phone.
Gabby stares at Shay with another shocked look, until Shay looked up and notices, she narrows her eyes, "What's that look?", and Gabby just shook her head.
"Nothing, it's just I haven't seen you care about someone like this in a long time. Am I allowed have to give Erin the, don't hurt her or you die speech yet, or what?", Gabby laughed.
Shay rolls her eyes, "Nah let's try and save that for until we at least have sex", Shay grumbled.
"Hmmm haven't made it official yet huh? I guess you've both been pretty busy, hopefully after they get Kelly's sister back you guys can take a few days off together huh?" Gabby hummed.
"Yeah maybe, but for now, just seeing her is enough…shut up", Shay groaned as Gabby looked at her with a smirk. _
Erin had just dragged herself to her couch to collapse in a tired heap when she her a knock at her door.
Erin groaned, she was exhausted and stressed, all she wanted was to lay down and to not think about the Keller case for a few minutes. It had been eating away at her and her team, especially knowing the effect it was having on their friends and family at Firehouse 51.
Erin dragged herself off her sofa and trudged to the front door, prepared to tell whoever it was at the door they would just have to wait until morning to bother her.
She opened the door with a tired expression only to instantly perk up, there stood Shay with food and beer and a sympathetic smile.
"Hey, I know you're probably really tired and don't want company, but I wanted to make sure you ate, I got Chinese if you're up to it?" Shay asked with a wary smile.
Erin shook herself out of her shocked state, "Uh yeah, thanks, come in and share it with me?", Erin smiled.
Shay nodded and they headed to the sofa to sit and unpack divide up the food and drinks. "Again, I just wanted to make sure you ate something, I know you and the team have been working yourselves into the ground, I figured you've probably skipped a few meals", Shay explained.
Erin nodded and ran a hand through her hair, "yeah it's been tough, but I think we're close to finding him, and getting Severide's sister back, I can't share much more than that though".
Shay sighed, "yeah I know, I just hope everything turns out all right, Kelly's my family and its painful seeing him lose the only relative he cares about. But enough about that, how are you, outside of everything that's been going on?" Shay said sitting crossed legged on the sofa and taking bite of her food.
Erin took a swig of her beer before she answered, "Yeah I've been…well I was about to say fine, but I guess a more accurate description is tired? However, in this moment I am also very happy to see you. I know we just started seeing each other and we've been busy, I was hoping we wouldn't lose touch completely, you know?", Erin said with a furrowed brow and took a bite of her food and looking at Shay.
Shay nodded, "same, which is why I brought you something to eat", Shay glances at Erin as her eyebrows shoot up toward her forward, "Food…which I was brought you food, not…me of course", Shay laughs nervously and quickly shoves a bite of food in her mouth.
Erin laughed, all huskily like she usually does "Yeah that's what I thought you met, but I don't mind the company either", she said smiling while looking in Shay's eyes, which caused Shay to blush profusely.
Finishing up the food and clearing the table the couple settled into the couch to watch a movie together, after turning off the lights and grabbing a fresh glass of wine".
Erin gave Shay an amused smile when she made a move to sit and the other end of the couch. "What are you doing all the way over there? Unless you're not a cuddler, which is cool, but I am totally a secret cuddler" she stated holding her right arm up and open as an invitation.
Shay grinned and with a little uncontrollable giggle she quickly slid under Erin's arm and rested her head on her shoulder. Erin pulled shay in tight and gave her a peck on the forehead.
"You're adorable you know?" Erin said gazing at Shay. Shay lifted her head up to meet Erin's gaze and glanced at her lips. Leaning in Shay captured Erin's lips in a soft but heat-filled kiss. Erin brought her other hand to the back of Shay's head deepening the kiss.
The two kissed heatedly for a few minutes before breaking to catch their breath. Feeling extremely turned-on Erin still had the sense to ask, "You sure about this?" and Shay pausing for just a second glanced away and thought about it, before meeting Erin gaze with a fiery resolve. She pulled Erin softly by the collar of shirt as she laid down on top, positioning Erin between her legs.
