Congratulations! You're the first request to be fulfilled in one of my stories
Christmas chapter in July. Here we go
The magic of the most wonderful time of the year was in the air. A time of sharing and caring. Singing carols, baking cookies, lights on the tree, and being together with family and friends as the children waited for a visit from Santa and finding whatever surprises awaited them on Life Day morning
Life Day was just around the corner, and everyone was so excited.
It was five days until Life Day, and everyone was getting ready for the big day.
No one was more excited than young Gabby Skywalker. This was her big brother Boba's first Life Day with them, and her first Life Day with a sibling. This year, Gabby's family was going to be spending Life Day on Naboo with Padme's family. There was gonna be a big party at the Naboo palace too. Gabby had always wanted to go to a Christmas gala. She saw one in a movie once and was so happy her family was invited.
Today, Gabby was finishing the final details on some Life Day cards she made for everyone, and wrote the names on all the envelopes and put them in a little basket so she could hand them out to everyone before she and her father had to leave and head for Naboo.
"I'm so excited!" said Carousella, entering the room. She was wearing a big green bow in place of her usual pink one and wore a red and white winter sweater. "Our first Life Day together."
"Ooh! I love your outfit, Carousella." Gabby said.
"Thanks." Carousella said. "It was my mother's sweater."
Gabby knew how hard Life Day would be for Carousella this year, it being the first one she would have without her mother. And her father and brother back in Equinaro. But, she had Remix there since he was Boba's horse, and Remix's father was back in Equinaro too.
"How are your cards going?" Carousella asked.
"They're all done." Gabby said. "I just need to hand them out so I can finish wrapping Mommy and Daddy's gifts."
"What about Boba? What did you get him?"
Gabby froze at that moment. Ever since Boba came home and became a Skywalker, Gabby had been looking forward to their first Life Day together, and she was determined to make it the best Life Day ever. Only this time, she didn't have a cold to nearly make this a disaster like his first birthday with the Skywalkers. Already, their last few special occasions together had something crazy happen.
Boba's first birthday with the Skywalkers, their first Halloween, the talent show at the performing arts center, and preparations for their parents' wedding. But this time, Gabby was determined to give Boba a perfect Life Day, and get him the perfect gift.
"I was so busy with war stuff, fixing all the crazy things that happened at other events, and being excited for Life Day, I forgot to get Boba a present!" Gabby panicked.
"Don't worry, Gabby. There's still time to get him something."
"But that's the problem. I don't know what to get him." Gabby said. "What would Boba even want?"
"Well, has he dropped hints about what he'd like for Life Day?" Carousella asked.
Gabby thought back to a few times she'd been with her brother over the last six months.
One day in the store with Anakin...
Boba and Gabby were helping their father pick up groceries. Gabby was riding in the little chair on the cart, and Boba looked at some toys on the shelves they passed by. He saw a cool toy star ship and picked it up.
"Put it back. We're not getting treats." Anakin said, not even looking at Boba.
"Seriously, does he have eyes in the back of his head or something?" Boba asked his sister.
"If he did, he wouldn't keep losing at Tigger tag." Gabby said.
Another day, the kids are channel surfing, feeling bored...
"No way am I sitting through Blue's Clues again." Boba said. "It took me two weeks to get that Baby Shark out of my head."
Gabby was in control of the remote this time. And Boba didn't want to sit through another one of her little kid shows. He sat through Blue's Clues, My Little Pony, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Between the Lions, Mickey Mouse, and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Well, those last two, he didn't mind so much, but still. It was hard to find anything on TV that they both liked.
But then, Gabby stopped on what turned out to be a new music video by the singer Count Crescendo.
"Who's that?" Boba asked.
"You don't know who that is?" Gabby said as if Boba were crazy. "That's Count Crescendo, the biggest star in the galaxy."
"He's won so many awards," said Remix. "And no one knows his true identity because he always hides his face. He's so talented too."
Another day, Boba and Gabby were at the pet store, looking for a toy for Vivian's birthday. With the way she chewed through so many things, they needed a toy that could withstand the teeth of a shark.
Gabby picked up a big bone-shaped toy that had been tested by a wolverine.
"What about this one?" Gabby asked Boba, only to find he wasn't by her.
"Oh no, not again." Padme said.
Luckily, this was a smaller store, so Gabby and Padme found Boba more easily.
Boba was playing with some of the kittens who were up for adoption. He seemed to really like them.
"He's noted things he likes." Gabby said. "But not about what he'd like for Life Day."
Gabby wondered if it had to do with the fact that this was Boba's first Life Day without Jango Fett. Boba didn't talk about Life Days with his birth father. Gabby worried that he didn't have good holiday experiences. Boba did say his father was away a lot. What if Life Day was no exception?
Luckily, Gabby had been saving her allowance for the last four months, and she was determined to get her brother the best Life Day present ever.
Suddenly, Gabby heard a noise coming from the hall, and went out there to check it out, only to fail miserably as she tried not to laugh when she saw Obi-Wan with his legs trapped in some garlands, Anakin and Peppermint trying to get him out.
"Hold still, Obi-Wan!" Anakin exclaimed.
"Almost got it!" Peppermint said, biting the garland, but she ended up spinning her rider around, and he fell into Anakin and knocked them both down. The three of them started laughing.
"Are you okay, Uncle Obi-Wan?" Gabby asked, walking up.
"I'm fine, thank you." Obi-Wan said, getting up. He noticed the basket Gabby was holding. "What do you have there?"
"Life Day cards." Gabby pulled out two cards. "These are for you and Peppermint. I made them myself."
Peppermint and Obi-Wan each took their envelopes and thanked Gabby for them, saying they looked forward to opening them.
"The kids have been so excited for their first Life Day together." Anakin said.
"The only problem is I haven't found a gift for Boba yet, and I don't have a lot of time." Gabby said. "Do we have time to look for anything, Daddy?"
"Well, we can see if you find anything once we arrive on Naboo." Anakin said. "The perfect gift just might be right under your nose."
Unbeknownst to Gabby, she was not the only one having trouble with this Life Day.
Boba was browsing through the holo-net, trying to figure out the perfect present for his little sister. This was their first Life Day together, and he wanted to give her a gift that said, "Thank you for being the best sister I could ever ask for, I love you, and Merry Life Day."
"What do you get the girl who has everything?" Boba asked himself, putting his head in his hands, getting a massive headache.
His sister had gifts practically handed to her every day whether it was her birthday or any other special occasion or not.
Ever since Gabby was born, people spoiled her with more gifts than she could count even after she learned how to count to thousands.
Boba remembered after he met his new grandparents, they spoiled him with a bunch of presents to welcome him into the family. And when his grandmother or his mother gave him so many kisses and smothered him with affection, Boba had never felt so loved. The most affectionate thing Jango ever did for Boba was hug him and ruffle his hair.
Luckily for Boba, his father had an inheritance left for Boba when he died. Unfortunately, he couldn't touch most it until he was eighteen. But he could ask his new parents to help him withdraw a bit once he figured out what he would get for his sister. But what?
Both Gabby and Boba were in a real pickle.
What kind of present could a little girl give her big brother who until recently had almost nothing?
And what could an eleven-year-old boy who'd been alone most of his life give a three-year-old princess who had everything?
Both wanted to give each other the greatest gift. But what could that be?
There we go. Part 1 of a Christmas in July chapter. Let me know what you think!
