Now that Heart's heat is over, it's time to play a waiting game to see if their mating was successful. Was it? Well, I guess in the next few months we'll find out. At the same time, Heart gets a visit from not one, but two special demons.
Ch 21: A Mother's Guide
It was the next morning after Heart and Alastor had their little date night. Their fun throughout the night made them tired and they fell asleep on the island after they were both worn out. Under the night sky, with the stars and the sounds of the insects that played their songs. It was wonderful. They fell asleep side by side after a loving night.
When Alastor woke up a bit before noon. He lifted his head and yawned then looked around. He was confused at first why he was here until he realized the wolf next to him. When he looked down at her he saw her fast asleep. She looked so cute and then he remembered what happened last night. He blushed and his ears went back as he thought of it, it made him happy with his tail wagging.
Although when he looked at the field around him the evidence of their actions was also seen but also could be smelled. That made his blush warmer and he put his head down to lick the wolf's head. The deer managed to get up from beside her and stretch. He did small trots around the small clearing where they were. He saw the kill they didn't finish last night and went over to it, taking a few bites to fill his need for breakfast.
Soon Heart was waking up. She yawned and gave a stretch. She was sore as her back hurt so she winced a moment. She managed to lay on her stomach and try to stand but her legs wobbled.
Alastor spotted this and walked over to her. "Good morning love. Please be careful. We had a long night."
Heart sat down thanks to her wobbly legs and looked up at the deer. "Good morning, my buck. Did you sleep well?" She asked.
He nodded. "I slept like a rock. I hope you had the same peaceful sleep?"
The hybrid sighed happily and closed her eyes. "It was the best sleep I've had in a while."
"I'm glad. We tired each other out so it's only reasonable that we are tired out the way we are." Alastor said with a chuckle.
"I know, but even so…I had a wonderful night, Alastor." Her tail wagged. "It was magical."
Smiling, the deer went and licked the wolf's head. "It was absolutely wonderful my love. I will agree. If the urge hits you at all again today just let me know. I know the mating season can last a while."
Heart smiled. "Thank you, Al. I'm actually ok right now but I'm starving already. Must have used up all the energy last night." She chuckled embarrassed.
"Well good thing there is still some of the deer left from yesterday." Alastor told her.
The hybrid looked and the deer was still there. She licked her lips and managed to get up and over to the deer and took a chunk out of its leg. She hummed and sat down to eat. There were a few moments of silence as the two shared the meal. It was nice, waking up like this. Waking up and sharing a kill together, it was so nice and Heart would do it again. Sure, she spent the winter in Alastor's cave but he had the food already for her. This time it was something they took down as a team so it made it special.
"Hey Al, can I ask you something?" The wolf wondered as she swallowed.
Alastor swallowed his bite then said, "Of course, what is on your mind?"
"So…I was wondering. I know I came to the island the way you did, but couldn't I fly to it?" She asked. She never came around Alastor's Island before. She had never even flown above it. Always staying away and never going close. It was something that crossed her mind though.
He paused to look at the hybrid, "Try to fly."
The wolf tilted her head, "What?"
"Try to fly." He repeated.
Heart wasn't sure but she stood up and did what he said. She opened her wings and jumped up, flapping them a few times but she didn't get off the ground. She landed back down on her paws unevenly, almost falling. She was confused for a moment and tried again, nothing happened. She couldn't fly.
"I can't." She whispered and then turned to Alastor. "I can't fly." She said with slight worry, thinking her ability to fly had gone.
"Now dear it's ok. No need to worry." Alastor went over to her and rubbed his head against her neck. "You didn't lose your ability to fly. It's all right. I have a spell on the island so that winged creatures can't fly. It's for when I do my activities here, keeping them grounded."
"Oh…I see. So…I can still fly?" She made sure.
"You can love. Just not on this island." He tells her.
Heart sighed in relief. "I'm glad."
Alastor went and licked her muzzle. "Sorry to worry you darling."
"It's ok." She nuzzled her face into his side.
"Come let's get back to eating and we can relax today." Alastor suggested and turned to walk back to the kill.
Heart stopped him and she felt a wave of heat come over her, "Well…um…would it be ok if we…um-" She couldn't get the words out.
Alastor turned around to look at her with a smile. "Do you need my assistance already, little wolf?"
Looking down and away she said, "Yes…I'm sorry."
The deer walked back up to his mate. "No need to be sorry dear. You're still in your season so its ok to feel the urge now and then. I am happy to help you." He licked the side of her muzzle.
Heart's tail wagged. "Thank you, Alastor. I don't know what I'd do without you."
"Nor would I know what to do without you. Now come on. Let's get you taken care of." Alastor said, leading down to start licking her neck.
Her fur stood up at the action. "I hate you."
Alastor chuckled. "Love you too."
[One Month Later]
After their interaction, Heart's heat went away after a week and they went back to normal. Well, somewhat. Heart and Alastor were official mates and they could officially call themselves that. It made them so happy to have the label mean something now. Plus, to have other demons believe it…somewhat. They wouldn't believe them until they saw a little pup or fawn running around and that was fair.
When Heart's heat was over, she decided to move into Alastor's cave fully now. She didn't want to be away from him. Honestly, she felt protective of him, as weird as that sounded. She wanted to go everywhere he went. She didn't want to leave his side. He honestly had to tell her to stay in the cave and rest. He didn't mind her random clinginess but she had to understand that they needed space as well.
Heart didn't know what was wrong with her. Honestly after their nights together, Heart hadn't felt any different. She didn't seem to notice a change but at the same time she knew it would take time before she could feel anything. What she did notice was, she felt more tired and was sleeping in more. When she would stay in Alastor's cave it felt like all she was doing was sleeping.
Of course, during this time, Chicka had returned to the forest finally after her winter journey. She was so happy to see everyone and then to learn about all that happened when she was gone. From Heart almost freezing to death to their time together on the island and becoming official mates. The bird was so happy to hear all this and would be with Heart at any point she needed her.
Since it's been a month since she last saw Ciel, she wanted to meet up with her adopted mother again. Talk to her about things. See if she could figure out stuff to help her. If she was indeed carrying then she wanted to find out how because after a month she had a challenging time telling. If she wasn't…she'd be even more devastated and that would mean she would have to wait till after summer when Alastor was in his rut again.
The hybrid sat and waited at the border for the wolf. Her mind lost in her own thoughts as she looked up into the open sky. She gave a relaxed sigh as she sat there, the sun on her pelt. It was wonderful, she could fall asleep again.
"You seem relaxed." A voice broke her out of her thoughts.
Heart looked down and saw Ciel standing there looking at her with her tail wagging. "Mom." The wolf's tail wagged and she went up to her and nuzzled her face against hers. "I'm glad to see you."
"I'm happy to see you too, little one. How are you feeling?" The older wolf wondered.
"Ok I guess, but that is why I wanted to see you as well." She shifted on her paws a moment.
"What's on your mind dear?" Ciel asked as she sat on her hunches.
"After my heat was over I don't…feel different and it's been a month now." Heart said as she had a small hint of worry in her voice.
The black wolf looked at the younger one with a smile. "Well, you may not feel different but have you been acting differently?"
"Acting differently?" Heart repeated and then started to think.
"I know it's not noticeable yet, but it takes time." Ciel told her as she thought. "Usually, wolves are only pregnant for about two almost three months. You are different though so I'm not sure how your body is reacting or going to react. You won't even know how long you will be pregnant for until you start to feel those urges to nest and be in a den."
The hybrid listened to the wolf talk and nodded. "Well, I have been more protective and clingier towards Alastor. I also have been sleeping a lot longer I noticed."
Ciel nodded. "That's normal." She said right away. "You probably are pregnant, I want to say. Let me look at you. I've learned a thing or two from Star back in the pack."
The older wolf stood up and started to circle around the hybrid, looking at her figure and giving her a sniff now and then. She would hum to herself and nod. Lost in her own thoughts. Heart watched her and stood still as her adoptive mother 'examined' her.
When the wolf got back in front, she was smiling. "Oh yes, you definitely are. I can smell it on you."
Heart felt excited but was still confused, "Smell me?"
Ciel gave the wolf a lick on her head. "Yep. Even though you don't show just yet. Your smell has changed and I can start to smell your pheromones changing as well as your milk starting to build up. Those might hurt after a little bit, just so you know."
Heart blushed at that but her tail still wagged excitedly. "Thank you, mom. Thank you." She went up to the wolf and started to lick under her jaw and made happy yips.
The black wolf chuckled and was happy as well. "I'm happy to help. If you need me, you let me know. Plus, when the pups come, please tell me. I'd love to see them."
"Of course, I will." Heart told her with a smile. "I'll see you next month ok. I have to find Alastor." She jumped excitedly.
Ciel chuckled and nodded, "Go ahead dear. I'll see you next month. I love you."
"Love you too mom." Heart gave her one last lick before running the other way. She jumped in the air and flew off to find Alastor.
Ciel watched her go and just smiled before turning around and heading home.
Heart wasn't sure where Alastor would have been so she had a lot of ground to cover. Finding a red deer shouldn't be too hard. Right? After flying around and searching for a bit she spotted him. Flying down she landed in front of him with a wag of her tail.
The deer saw her shadow fly overhead and saw her land, he smiled. "Hello my dear. Did your meeting with your adopted mother go ok?" He asked.
"It went wonderful actually." She said happily and went up to him, nuzzling her face against his neck. "Plus, she was actually able to tell me something."
"What would that be my love?" He wondered.
The hybrid giggled and jumped slightly. "She was able to tell because I smelled funny to her. Do I smell funny to you?"
The deer thought the question was odd but he did take a moment and thought about how Heart smelled this morning and how odd it was. "Y-Yes I noticed that you did smell a little off today."
Heart giggled. "That is because I am pregnant! It's my body changing!" She said happily as she gave a small skip.
"Oh, my darling this is wonderful news indeed!" The deer's tail started to wag with excitement. "That makes me so happy, my wolf." He leaned his head down and licked her nose.
She giggled and rubbed her face against his neck and to his shoulder. "That is all I will know. Everything else is going to be a mystery for both of us."
Alastor snorted from a laugh, "I understand but we will get through it together my love. I promise."
"Together." Heart repeated and just sighed happily.
[Two Months Later]
After another two months that went by and things were calm in Alastor's territory. It was still spring so things were blooming all around it felt. Was crazy to think how these few months would go and for Heart, knowing that she was three months pregnant made her worry about when she might give birth. Although Alastor was always there to reassure her that things would be ok and that they would happen when it all felt together. The hybrid was different then a normal wolf so her pregnancy would probably be longer than normal.
Her appetite went up though so she was eating a little more now and that made her and Alastor happy to see that she didn't lose it. Going without food for so long would have been bad for both her and the pups. She had to stay strong after all.
She met with Ciel as well and the wolf was happy to see that Heart was doing so well with her pregnancy. Although she didn't look as big yet she would be soon, plus who knows how many pups she actually had. She hadn't been able to really feel them yet, they were just so small still.
Today Heart was going to be in for a surprise. A visit from a guest she hasn't seen in a long time.
The hybrid woke up with a yawn and a stretch. She blinked open her eyes to see that she was alone in the cave. Alastor was already gone for his patrol. With her sleeping in so long she couldn't go with him as often as she'd like.
Heart stood up and was on wobbly legs for a moment. The last few days she realized her balance wasn't the best and she felt really weighed down. She didn't think anything of it at first but when she sat down after her stretch and could feel the difference now. It woke her up on the spot as she looked down and finally noticed how distended her stomach was. It was small but she could feel the difference and now that her nipples were slowly filling with milk you could see them a lot better as well.
She giggled happily as her tail wagged. "I can't wait to meet you; I just wish I knew how many I was having." Heart said to herself as she stood up and went to stand by the cave entrance. "Although with this being my first litter, I probably won't have that many."
Standing at the entrance of the cave she could see how beautiful it was outside. Taking a deep breath, Heart walked out and went to the stream to get a drink.
"Heart! Good morning!" Came a voice from above her.
Looking up, she spotted the little chickadee on a tree branch not far away." Good morning, Chicka. It's a wonderful day, isn't it?"
"It is." She flew down lower and landed on a stump nearby. "It's been a few days since I saw you, but you look bigger by the way if you want an opinion."
Heart blushed. "Thank you, I was honestly starting to worry I wouldn't start to show yet."
The bird chuckled. "Don't worry, I understand. I know you have been worried a bit but you can see yourself hanging a little lower today."
The wolf's tail wagged happily. "That makes me feel a little better Chicka. I appreciate it."
"You're welcome. I know you just woke up, but I came here to bring a message to you." The chickadee told her.
Heart tilted her head, "A message? For me?"
Chicka nodded. "The demon is anonymous but they wish to meet you at the mountain border at noon if possible."
Heart's ears went back a moment. "Should…Should I trust this demon?" She wondered as she shifted her paws.
Chicka nodded. "Don't worry, you know them. They really want to meet you again."
Heart felt reassured and felt better. "Well, I guess I'll go then. I don't know who would want to see me beside Ciel."
"You'll be surprised. Trust me. I'll be with you and so will Veronica." The bird let her know.
"Let's go then. I'll try to fly." The hybrid said and flapped her wings.
The two flew off but Heart didn't last long as she got out of breath. She was surprised and honestly thought it was weird. She then realized that maybe it was just the extra weight holding her down. Soon they landed, Chicka staying on the hybrid's horns and walked the rest of the way to the mountains. Heart was tired by the time she got there.
"These pups are already taking it out of me." She breathed out as they walked up the path to the mountain.
"Don't worry Heart, you know all of us will try our best to help you once they're born." The chickadee reassured her.
"Thank you Chicka." Heart then spotted the white fox up ahead of them. "Veronica!" Heart called out.
The little vixen turned to the two, "Heart, hey nice to see you." She went up to them. "Aw Heart look at you, you're glowing already from the pup, so cute." She said excited.
Heart blushed. "It's actually noticeable?" She wondered as she played with her claws in the dirt.
"Of course, as someone who has had fox pups in the past, I can tell." She said with a wag of her tail.
"You have?" Heart asked with a smile.
Veronica smiled sadly. "That was years ago dear. None of my pups ever made it to adulthood and my mate ended up being a backstabber to my heart so…I focus more on others needs instead of my own. I like being the mother figure."
"Even still, I'm sorry to hear that my friend." Heart said as she was heartbroken from her friend's words.
"It's all in the past doll. For now, we can focus on the future." Veronica told her as she used a paw to pat Heart's.
She nodded. "Of course."
The vixen cleared her throat. "Ok, now for the real reason your here. Someone is at the top of the path waiting for you."
"Oh yes yes of course. Let's go." Heart walked up the path, the arctic fox behind her.
When she got to the top, she didn't have to look around much as she soon spotted a dragon. Not just any dragon…Dorothy. Her mother.
"Mom?" Heart wondered with surprise.
The dragon smiled when she saw the hybrid. "Heart! It's so wonderful to see you after all this time." She ran up to the girl and rubbed her head against the wolf's. The dragon seemed to purr at seeing her daughter. "I missed you so much, but no one was allowed to leave the territory for months. Especially under King Lucifer's gaze." The dragon explained.
"Has Lucifer chosen a new Lord or Lady of the dragons?" Chicka asked.
Dorothy nodded. "He did. To our surprise…it was Molten." They were astonished and their jaws hung open a moment from the shock. The dragon continued, "The king saw something in that young dragon compared to the others. Once his Lord ceremony was over and Lucifer left, I asked if I could visit you."
"I'm so happy for him. I'll have to visit you and him sometime then." Heart said with a happy wag.
"Well, it looks to me like that won't be anytime soon, young one." The dragon pointed out with a smile. "Seems like you have your own family starting."
Heart felt her ears get hot with a blush at those words. She shifted on her paws. "Is it that noticeable now?"
Everyone chuckled at that. Dorothy put her head down to the wolf again. "It is. I remember being with you. Most dragons are born from eggs and once laid you have to keep watch over them, but you weren't. I carried you the whole time and it was the best feeling in the world. Feeling you move around and stuff was mind blowing but you were so small that no one knew I was having a hatchling. I would take that feeling then having an egg any day."
Heart felt at ease from her mother's words, her ears were back in content. "It's honestly so nice to see you mom."
The dragon smiled and nuzzled against the wolf. "It's wonderful to see you too. I'm sorry about what happened months ago, but it makes me happy to see that things have been back to normal here." She looked out into the woods behind them. "I honestly miss the woods."
"Agreed, things have been smooth since the King helped us." Veronica said.
Heart then realized…she probably didn't know about Alpha. She sighed and then looked at the dragon, "Mom, there is something I think I should tell you. It's about the pack. It happened before winter came."
The dragon tilted her head. "W-Well then tell me what it was, hatchling."
The hybrid shifted on her paws a moment. "It's about Alpha." She said sadly.
Dorothy went silent, she could take that tone that it was nothing good. "He's gone…isn't he?"
Looking away from the dragon, she sighed then answered, "Yes…he got sick. I was there in the pack when it happened."
There was silence in the air after those words. No one knew what to say or what to do. Chicka and Veronica looked at each other sadly before looking at the dragon. They all knew that Dorothy loved Alpha very much.
"The last time I saw him…was when you were a pup." The dark red dragon whispered. "When I brought you to the pack. I saw that gleam in his eyes, like every time he saw me…but when he looked at you it went away. He put on a mask." She started to cry. "H-He was the only demon I ever loved. I wish…I wish I could have told him…one last time how I loved him…how much he meant to me."
Heart went up to her mother and wrapped a paw and wing around her one front leg. She wanted to comfort her mom as best she could. Dorothy accepted the comfort and brought her other front foot around the hybrid and wrapped her wings around them both. The dragon took it harder than Heart thought she would, but then again…when it comes to someone you loved and have loved your whole life, she can imagine it wasn't easy. She would be devastated like this if something ever happened to Alastor. She wouldn't know what to do with herself.
After a few moments, the dragon calmed and Heart told her, "I can show you where they buried him. I was with them."
Dorothy lifted her head. "Please, take me to him. I can at least say some last goodbyes there." She begged almost.
Heart nodded and the dragon let her go. She looked at her two friends. "Do you two mind if we go alone? Plus, it's in wolf territory and I don't want you in trouble."
"Not at all dear." Veronica told her.
"Yea, you two go ahead." Chicka added.
"Thank you, guys. If Alastor wonders where I am, just tell him." She told them.
"We will, don't worry about a thing, ok?" Chicka said to reassure her.
The hybrid smiled then looked back at the dragon. "Ok, let's go." She then took off towards the other territory, the dragon behind her.
The two flew over the trees. Luckily, she managed to push herself far enough to get to the border and then soon landed. It wasn't far from where they were. Heart was out a breath a moment as she landed and stopped to catch her breath. Dorothy looked at her with a smile.
"That extra weight gets to you sometimes. Just keep working at it. If you fly a little bit each day it will start to feel like nothing." The dragon said.
"I'll try to do that, thank you." Heart breathed and then managed to get her bearings back. "Ok, this way."
As they walked Dorothy looked around and soon started to remember things. "This all looks familiar." She spoke softly to herself.
The dragon walked faster and soon passed up Heart, it's like she knew where she was going. Heart tried to keep up as the dragon went faster. She was heading the right way at least. Soon enough they were at the spot and the dragon slowly went through the trees. Heart was behind her and stood at the entrance as Dorothy looked around.
"Oh my…it hasn't changed at all." The dragon smiled as she looked around. "So many good memories were here in this grove." She sighed.
"He's right in the middle of this groove. He wanted this to be his resting spot." Heart told her as she walked over to where she knew it was.
The grave couldn't really be seen much anymore. Some patches of dirt were still bare but flowers were blooming around it. It was beautiful to match the rest of the grove. After so many months, it was still hard to think that Alpha was still gone. Heart went over and sat next to the grave. She would have loved for him to see her now, to meet the grand pups she was going to be having. Dorothy went over to her and sat down as well, wrapping her tail around the hybrid. It was all too real now as they sat there…that Alpha wasn't around anymore.
The dragon laid one of her front feet on top of Alpha's grave lightly. "I miss you, Alphie. I'll always miss you. Just like how I'll always love you." The dragon cried then at that, having it all sink in now. Heart sat there and let her mother cry. He was her true love and she lost him. Heart can imagine the heartbreak that her mother must feel.
The dragon looked up and around them. "It's honestly hard to imagine….the last time him and I were romantic together…was here." She sighed heavily and looked down at Heart. "You were the cause of that as well." She chuckled.
Heart looked up at her. "He told me that as well." She put her ears back. "It's because of me that you two stopped seeing each other though."
"Heart, that isn't true. Not one bit." The dragon licked the wolf's head. "We stopped seeing each other because he mated with that wolf he has now. The last time him and I spoke was when he told me he mated with a wolf in the pack. How he couldn't see me anymore to protect us. I accepted that, but this was before I knew I was having you. When I realized I was pregnant with you, it changed. I wanted to see him again. But you know the rest." She sighed but looked at Heart with a smile. "You know, you do remind me of him. As soon as I saw you, I saw him in you too. Especially since your coat was black like his."
Heart had tears in her eyes already from when her mother spoke. "I…I appreciate what you two did for me. I understand better now than I did. I-I want to give my pups something I didn't get a chance to have. A family that loves them. Not that you didn't love me, you just couldn't be around to love me, but to be surrounded by people who love them all the time. Unlike what the pack did to me."
Dorothy smiled. "Of course, love. I understand. Those pups of yours will have so much love, they won't know what to do with it. You have wonderful friends. A loving and loyal mate. They all love you and I can see that." She licked the wolf's face to clean her tears.
She took a deep breath and leaned against the dragon. "Thank you, mom."
"For what dear?" The dragon wondered.
Heart looked up at her mother. "For never giving up on me."
Smiling, Dorothy said. "I would never. Also, thank you as well Heart." The hybrid looked up at her. "For taking me here plus everything else. You're a wonderful daughter and I'm sorry I couldn't be in your life more."
"It's ok mom. Even though you weren't' when I was younger, doesn't mean you can't make up for it. Plus…you can be in my pups' lives. That is something I care about." Heart told her as she pressed her side up against the dragon.
"Of course. I couldn't picture anything more." Her mother said as she wrapped herself around the hybrid. Even wrapping her arms around her and picking her up in her claws as she leaned back against a tree. Keeping her all snuggled and safe in her hold.
Heart was surprised by the hold but it wasn't unwelcomed. The dragon held her between her front claws, her back against the dragon's chest. She was holding her light enough to not put pressure on her stomach so it felt nice. As she held her like that though, the hybrid felt the small flutter from the middle of her stomach. It made her fur stand up.
"Wow, well that's new." Heart said aloud.
"I felt that." Dorothy said with a giggle as she wiggled her claws. "Is this the first time you felt them move?"
"Y-Yea….it was wonderful to feel." Her tail wagged happily from this. "That was nice."
"They're finally telling you they are here." Dorothy chuckled.
"Oh, it's so wonderful. I can't wait to tell Alastor." Heart said excited.
"Why don't you go back to him dear. I want to spend some time here."
"Are you sure? I'd hate to leave you in this territory by yourself."
"I'll be fine, love. I'm a 50 year old dragon. I can manage it." The dragon chuckled.
Heart's ears went back, "Ok, I just…don't want anything happening to you."
"And nothing will." Dorothy put the hybrid back down on the ground. "Go back to your mate, little one. I won't be here too much longer."
"Alright." Heart went up to the dragon and nuzzled her face into her side. "Thank you for visiting today. It honestly was so wonderful to see you again."
She went to pet her daughter on the head, "It was a pleasure. I'll make sure to stop by again soon. Specially to see the little ones."
"Of course. I just don't know when they'll be due."
"Your body will tell you when you're close. Don't worry about anything my dear."
Giving a nod and one last lick goodbye, Heart left Dorothy alone in the small grove. She most likely wanted some time alone with Alpha and to say a few words. When the hybrid walked out of the grove, she took off back towards Alastor's land. She honestly felt the fluttering again as she flew and it made her whole body feel warm and her fur stood up with excitement. That kind of gave her a little boost and was able to fly all the way to the deer's territory and landed at his cave.
She shook her fur flat and walked into the cave. She didn't think the deer would be in there but he was. He laid there on the far side with one of his human books, looking at it. Her tail wagged as she walked up to him. "Alastor." She greeted with a happy yip.
Alastor looked up from the book when he heard her, "Ah my little wolf has returned. Did you have an enjoyable time with your mother?"
"It was great. I took her to see Alpha's grave. She took the news pretty hard. She loved him very much." She told him then went up to the deer and rubbed her face against his, rubbing her horns against his antlers. "I know I'd feel the same if you were ever taken away from me."
He made a small bleep at her words and gestures. "I'd never leave you. Ever. Saten himself will have to take me from you and I'd put up a fight if he did."
The hybrid smiled and licked his nose. She laid down beside him and she put her muzzle in his neck. "I'd never leave you either. We have forever and I want that with you."
"Of course, my love. Plus, we can grow our family as well." He said as he looked over at the wolf.
"Yes, and I can't wait for that." Heart said with a wag of her tail.
Closing the book, the deer put it to the side and then stood up. "Come love, lets relax outside while the sun is out. I think it will be a nice time to just lay about while its nice today."
"Oh, that sounds like a wonderful idea." Heart got up and walked outside.
Alastor stayed behind the wolf when she walked out into the sun. As he looked at her it almost seemed like her black fur was glowing in the light. He stood at the entrance of the cave just looking at her as she laid down on her side with her wings behind her. As she laid there, Alastor noticed the small roundness to the wolf's stomach and it made his heart fill with joy. He went up to her and nuzzled the side of his mate's stomach. "You look glowing, my little wolf. So wonderful as you are with our fawn." He told her softly.
Heart smiled and looked up to look at the deer. "I noticed today as well that I was showing a little more. Plus…I felt them move around today. It's so interesting."
His tail wagged. "Really?" He wondered excitedly.
Heart nodded. "It's like butterflies in your stomach, but real. It's amazing."
Alastor laid down across from her and laid his head against her stomach. He nuzzled there a moment and just relaxed his head across her side. "I'm going to lay here, is that ok?"
Chuckling at his action she said, "Yes you can. It's fine." She answered and laid her head back down.
The two laid there in the sun outside the cave. Alastor had his head on Heart's side still. His sharp ears would pick up weird sounds from her but thought nothing of them. Soon enough though he felt something press against his face. He perked up and looked at her belly a moment after it happened. Heart though, was fast asleep already from being relaxed. He looked at her and then back down to nuzzle where he felt the kick.
"You better be as cute as your mother or it will be a crime." The deer chuckled. "I'm joking. No matter what you look like. We'll love you all the same." He licked her fur a little bit and he felt her belly move again. This caused him to let out another chuckle. "First day we feel you are active and you have so much energy. That's a good thing."
Heart woke up for a moment and lifted her head to look at the deer tiredly. "Are you talking to the pup's honey?" She asked tiredly.
Alastor looked at her with a smile, "Yes, I am my love. Just lay down and rest ok. Don't worry about anything." He said softly.
Heart smiled. "I love you, my great buck." She sighed happily as she put her head back down and fell back asleep.
"I love you too, my little wolf." He said in return and then turned back to her belly and nuzzled it. "And I love you." He rested his head against her again.
As the two slept there in the sun. They were unaware of the eyes that watched them from afar.
Just a note, I was trying to figure out how long wolves and deer are pregnant. Wolves are around 2-3 months while deer are about 7 ½ months. So, I went in the middle of those and did four since I wasn't honestly sure.
This turned out to be a long chapter but I loved it! I hope you did to…What?...Oh that ending…nah nah don't worry about it….or should you!?
