[37] Talk
Subaru brought Charlotte into a vacant classroom, he himself only walking as far as the door frame and motioning for her to step inside. As soon as she turned around to him the door was slid shut and wouldn't budge under humane nudging. By the sounds of it people were coming close.
"Open up." Charlotte said, one hand to the door handle.
"No, you should talk,… Charles." Subaru answered, the nickname leaving his mouth rather hesitantly.
"Talk about what?" Charlotte asked back.
There was no answer, only a quiet sigh followed by the creaking of wood, making Charlotte's heart miss a beat.
She turned around, unsurprised of Shu now sitting upward on one of the student-benches.
"Now, instead of pestering people when they cry, you rather just start conversation by being dragged somewhere?" He asked in one breath, his oceanic blue eyes fixed on Charlotte.
"Concerning you? Yes." She retorted, her hand slowly sinking from the door handle and fully turning to face him. "On the other hand you've chosen music over people's heartbeats?"
"Yes, though I still much prefer the sound of your company." He answered, patting the space beside him.
Charlotte slowly walked over and sat down.
It seemed she would have to thank Laito later, since right now she seemed to have ample time.
"Your side hobby hasn't changed much then? Still using sounds to drown out the world?" Charlotte said, leaning a bit closer to listen in on the quiet sounds from his earplugs.
She made room when Shu leaned into her, coming ever closer to her chest while removing one of his earplugs and quieting down the sound.
"I can't believe it's still so calming." His head rested on her chest. He was listening in on her heart beat.
He spoke up after some time spent quietly resting. "It's still in sink to how it was back then— You're awfully excited right now, even if it is so low."
"You thought I changed a lot?" He asked, reluctantly getting back up.
"Don't we all." Charlotte answered, watching him move.
"You've been afraid of big changes ever since I first met you." Shu said, nudging her shoulder with his own.
"That- is true." Charlotte said, even her face telling of how perplexed she felt by the notion.
For a split second his eyes wandered to the door. "You've grown close. Must be nice having someone at your side?" He asked, turning to Charlotte with a smirk softening his lips. ""Charles", it's cute."
Charlotte nodded in answer, a slim smile curving her lips. "And yourself? That boy— with the brown hair. Who is he to you?" She asked back.
"I'm… not so sure." Shu answered, lost in thought.
"But you are somewhat sure?" Charlotte asked, prying for more information on the impure vampires.
"You could say that." Shu answered, getting onto his feet and passing by Charlotte. He made his way through the now opened door, people passing by him, surprise in their eyes.
Charlotte followed after him, but was halted by Subaru's waiting form. He stood around the corner where Shu had just passed.
"Took you long enough." Subaru said, his eyes unfocused going through the occasional masses of students passing them by.
"Thank you." Charlotte said quietly, not sure of its sincerity.
