The pair arrived at Lux an hour later, having given their statements for that night, with Kami still insisting on patching Lucifer up. She gestured for him to sit down on the couch as she grabbed the first aid kit from behind the bar in the Penthouse. She spread the equipment she would need out on the table and told Lucifer to take off his shirt, earning an amused look from the older man.

"At least take me out on a date first" Lucifer teased, as he started to unbutton his white shirt, still stained with his blood.

As Kami opened her mouth, trying to formulate a witty reply, she lost her train of thought as her gaze flickered to Lucifer's muscled chest. She let her eyes trail down his abs for a moment, before pulling her gaze away, cursing herself inwardly. It really wasn't fair that her best friend was so damn attractive. Or that he was body was pretty much flawless.

"I'll leave Ella to do that" Kami suggested, joining him on the couch, beginning to dab at the wound with peroxide.

"Miss Lopez?" Lucifer frowned, letting out a hiss at the stinging sensation from his abdomen.

"You two have seemed pretty close lately. I just figured you were, you know, interested—" Kami began, but was quickly cut off by Lucifer's laughter.

"I assure you, Miss Lopez and I are just friends. Platonic with a capital P" Lucifer insisted, watching as Kami's lips twitched into a smile.

"Really?" She asked, sounding far happier than she should have.

"Am I sensing a hint of jealousy?" Lucifer smirked, as Kami pursed her lips.

She then pressed a piece of gauze roughly against his wound, making him hiss again, having his answer. Kami started to tape the gauze against his chest, a moment later, surprised to see the wound was already healing.

"You're lucky you don't need stitches. You're not as invincible as you'd like to think, Lucifer" Kami told him.

"Certainly not around you" Lucifer mumbled to himself.

"Just...take better care of yourself, alright?" Kami exclaimed, as their eyes met.

Lucifer's brow furrowed as his eyes seemed to search hers, and a second later, he was reaching out to cup her cheek. Kami felt her heart speed up, as Lucifer leaned closer, thinking he was about to kiss her, unsure how to react. His touch was surprisingly gentle, as she became lost in his deep brown eyes. Suddenly, he moved his fingers up to her eyes, pulling at the skin above her eyelids, causing them to widen, as if he was looking for something.

"Uh...what are you doing?" Kami laughed, nervously.

"Have you seen my brother recently?" Lucifer frowned, tilting his head.

"Not before today, why?" Kami questioned, as Lucifer pulled his hand away, seeming lost in thought.

"No memory problems?" Lucifer pushed, as Kami's eyes narrowed.

"...Yeah, actually. How did you know that?" Kami inquired, as Lucifer pushed himself to his feet, grabbing his shirt.

"I need to speak to Amenadiel. Will you be alright getting home?" Lucifer announced, as she nodded.

"Luce, what's going on?" Kami insisted, confused by his odd behaviour.

"I'm not sure yet. But I'll certainly find out" Lucifer muttered, a scowl growing over his features.

He had only seen a human's memories altered by an angel a few times in his life, but he could still notice the effects. The hint of something behind the human's eyes, left by the angel's grace. Seeing as apart from him, Amenadiel was the only angel on Earth, it led Lucifer to a very short list of suspects. If he had hurt Kami in any way, Lucifer wasn't sure what he would do...

The next day, Amenadiel had finally arrived at Lux after a particularly threatening message from Lucifer. He already knew exactly what his brother would want to speak about, but he wasn't expecting to be met by Lucifer's red eyes as soon as the elevator opened. He felt a rare sliver of fear, knowing what the former angel was capable of.

"Luci, it's not what you think—" Amenadiel began, but Lucifer began talking over him.

"Why? Why would you do it, brother? Why take Kami's memories when you know the risk!" Lucifer spat out, storming over to the taller man.

"I didn't feel I had a choice" Amenadiel replied, as Lucifer grit his teeth.

"You're an Angel, one of the most powerful beings in all creation, what could possibly..." Lucifer trailed off, as a realisation hit him.

"Mazikeen?" He murmured, as Amenadiel gave a short nod.

"She threatened me. Where her feelings for Kami are concerned, we both know she can be...unhinged" Amenadiel pointed out.

"What memories did you take?" Lucifer asked.

"She knew, brother. Linda told her what we are, she was scared, and Maze...I suppose she thought she was doing what was best—" Amenadiel was cut off once again, this time by Lucifer's hand wrapping around his neck.

"For her! You could have killed Kami!" Lucifer spat out, his hand tightening.

"I re...regretted it...the second...I did it..." Amenadiel stuttered, choked breaths leaving his lips.

"She is not someone whose life can be played with. I will not allow it" Lucifer insisted, his eyes glowing red again for a split second before he released his brother, who stumbled backwards.

Amenadiel clutched at his neck, a fit of harrowing coughs leaving his throat, as he glared up at Lucifer. If he had ever had any doubts about how much Lucifer cared for the human, they were long gone by now. He had killed their brother to save her, after all.

"I'm not the one you are truly angry at, Lucifer" Amenadiel pointed out.

"Quite right. Well, you can pass on a message to my former friend, Mazikeen. She is no longer welcome in Lux. In fact, she is no longer welcome on this planet" Lucifer spat out, as Amenadiel's eyes widened.

"You can't mean..." Amenadiel trailed off.

Did Lucifer really want Maze to return to hell? The pair had been together for so many years, it was almost impossible to imagine them apart. Lucifer seemed to be having the same thought process, pursing his lips, as an idea came to mind.

"Fine. She may stay on Earth if she so wishes. But I will not have her near Kami. Not after what she has done" Lucifer exclaimed.

"You want her to break up with Kami?" Amenadiel gaped.

"No. I want her to tell her truth, brother" Lucifer announced, the bitterness clear in his tone.

Just when things couldn't seem to get any worse for Lucifer...they did. A few hours after his argument with his brother, he returned to Lux after visiting a crime scene, to find he was being evicted. The son of the man he had just seen murdered, was divvying up his father's assets, including Lux. He had been so busy trying not to wipe the man, Eric Cooper, from the face of the Earth, that he hadn't noticed Kami walking down the steps of the nightclub, listening in on their conversation.

"I saw your "lease"...It was written in lipstick on a stripper's thong. Not exactly legally binding" Eric Cooper scoffed, lounging against the bar.

"Hm. Well, maybe we can write the new one in blood. I find that to be quite binding" Lucifer threatened, as the man stood up a little straighter.

"Let's not. You have no legal right to be here, so if you don't vacate, I'll have you removed" Eric explained, as Lucifer huffed out a laugh.

"It's not that easy to remove me. Last time, it took the power of God. What do you have? A few expensive lawyers? Or are you gonna' do it yourself?" Lucifer muttered, approaching the man, his eyes darkening.

This man clearly had no idea who he was dealing with, and Lucifer had no problem showing him. Suddenly, a hand was pressing against his chest, pulling him back, as Lucifer's eyes flickered to his side, finding Kami shaking her head. All that anger, and rage he felt immediately slipped away. She kept her hand on his chest for a few moments longer, which Lucifer had no issue with.

"This asshole isn't worth it" Kami told him, as Lucifer gave a curt nod.

"I'd leave while you still have all your limbs attached" Kami warned, turning back to Eric, who pursed his lips.

"That's fine. This is a police matter now, anyway" Eric smirked, as he shoved past her, gesturing for the rest of his team to move out.

"Looks like you were lucky I was here. What were you gonna' do?" Kami huffed.

"I thought hitting him over the head with that bottle of vodka would be a good start" Lucifer muttered, as a laugh left Kami's lips.

"...Did you really sign your lease on a stripper's thong?" Kami inquired, as Lucifer gave a small shrug.

"What can I say? We were caught in the moment" Lucifer exclaimed, causing her to roll her eyes.

"Chloe messaged me saying his father was just killed. Are we thinking he's a suspect?" Kami asked.

"If he's heartless enough to throw me out of my home, then I wouldn't put it past him" Lucifer mumbled.

"You really care a lot about this place, huh?" Kami suggested, as Lucifer's eyes flickered to sweep over her.

"...Among other things" He admitted, reaching out to pour himself a drink.

"Hey, it'll be alright. It will" Kami insisted, sensing his distress.

"How can you be so sure?" Lucifer frowned.

"Because you're Lucifer Morningstar. There's no way that prick in a suit is gonna' get the best of you, right?" Kami pointed out, as Lucifer's lips twitched into a smile.

"I didn't realise you had so much faith in me" Lucifer smirked, quirking an eyebrow.

"Well, I don't like to talk about it much. It's not like your head needs to get any bigger" Kami shrugged.

"It's not the only thing that's big—" Lucifer began, but Kami cut him off, with a wave of her hand.

"You still haven't told me what you needed to talk to Amenadiel about" Kami interjected, changing the subject quickly.

"It's not my place to say" Lucifer told her, taking a swig of his drink.

"Okay, not ominous at all. Spit it out, Lucifer" Kami insisted.

"...You need to speak to Mazikeen. That's all I can say" Lucifer replied, as Kami's frown deepened.

She couldn't help but wonder whether it had something to do with her 'fall'? Why were they all acting so strangely? Had Maze...done something to her?

Begrudgingly, Kami followed Lucifer to Eric Cooper's workplace after Chloe informed them his fingerprints had been found at the crime scene. Maze still wasn't picking up her phone, despite half a dozen missed calls from Kami. She was definitely avoiding her. But with a possible murderer hidden in the building in front of her, she supposed that shouldn't have been her top priority.

"I need you on your best behaviour, Lucifer. This is an extremely high-profile case. We are doing this by the book. I cannot have you terrorizing him" Chloe warned.

"I would never" Lucifer replied, innocently.

"Or threatening to tear his arms off" Chloe pointed out, as Lucifer smirked at the memory.

"That happened one time" Lucifer huffed.

"Throwing him through a door?" Kami added as Lucifer held his hands out in exasperation.

"It worked, didn't it?" He insisted as she shook her head fondly.

"Or hanging him from a window" Chloe stated, crossing her arms.

"I solemnly promise that the man's feet will remain firmly on the ground" Lucifer exclaimed, as they went to walk up the stairs to the Cooper building.

Kami flinched when a second later they heard an almighty crash from behind them, as they turned to find none other than Eric Cooper on the roof of a smashed car, bleeding heavily. A crowd immediately formed around the injured man, with a few people calling for help, the rest merely taking pictures on their phones. Kami grit her teeth as no one seemed to be doing a thing, and rushed into action, jumping up onto the hood of the car.

"Eric? Eric, can you hear me?" She questioned, earning a low groan in response.

"Just to be clear, that wasn't me" Lucifer announced, as Kami gave him a look.

Kami was careful to open up the man's airway while being mindful not to move his neck. The man seemed to be breathing fine, but with the amount of blood pooling onto the car, she could tell he was severely injured from somewhere. Jumping onto the roof of the car, she soon spotted where the blood was coming from, as a piece of the car had broken off and was now jammed into his thigh.

"Lucifer, get up here" Kami called out, waving him over.

Lucifer did as he was told, crawling up beside her, looking unsure as she removed Eric Cooper's tie. She then began to tie it around his thigh, creating a makeshift tourniquet, hoping to stem the bleeding. His femoral artery hadn't been hit, but something vital certainly had been.

"Take off your suit" She ordered, as Lucifer shrugged off his blazer, holding it out to her.

She instead grabbed his hands and forced him to press down against the wound on Eric's thigh, once again trying to stem the bleeding. Lucifer felt his heart speed up, unsure if it was having Kami so close...or something else. It felt strangely exciting actually trying to save someone's life.

"Keep pressure on that" Kami mumbled, as she began to check his body for other wounds.

"What can I do?" Chloe asked, with wide eyes.

"Go into the building, grab a first aid kit" Kami replied, unbuttoning Eric's shirt, glad to see there were no other wounds.

"You don't even like this man...why are you trying so hard to save him?" Lucifer asked genuinely curious.

"...Because someone has to" Kami shrugged, reaching out to check the man's pulse, not sensing the way Lucifer's eyes were still on her.

A soft smile grew on his face at her words, joined by a pleasant warm feeling spread over his chest. He suddenly felt glad to be by Kami's side, realising a new emotion was washing over him. He was proud.

"Is she here?" Kami asked, after Linda Martin's door was opened.

She had managed to keep Eric Cooper stable until the ambulance arrived, and from what Lucifer had told her, they expected he would recover. But the main thing on her mind was still her girlfriend. She wasn't at home, and she wasn't at Lux, so that left Kami with one last place to look...

"Who?" Linda replied, in a nervous tone.

"My AWOL girlfriend, I know..." Kami trailed off, when she realised Linda had only opened the door a fraction.

"...She's climbing out the window, isn't she?" Kami sighed, as Linda gave a small nod.

Kami then pushed the door open, just in time to see Maze readying herself to jump out the window, eyes wide as she realised she had been caught in the act. Kami crossed her arms and waited for an explanation, as Maze let out a groan, looking like she wanted to bang her head against the windowsill.

"I'm still surprised she can't teleport, you know" Linda mumbled, as Kami turned to her with a frown.

"What?" She questioned, huffing out a laugh.

"Well, you would think a de—" Linda was cut off immediately, by Maze, in a panicked voice.

"I think we need a minute alone, Linda" Maze insisted, as the woman's eyes darted between the two.

"Sure, sure. How have you been though, Kami? After...everything?" Linda pushed, as Kami gave her a look of confusion.

"Everything?" Kami frowned, watching as Linda's mouth went slack.

Her eyes flickered over to Maze, a look of disbelief on her features. Her expression slowly changed into disappointment; her jaw clenched as she seemed to realise something. Maze opened her mouth to speak, but Linda held a hand up, not wanting to hear what the other woman had to say. Finding out your friends weren't human wasn't exactly something you could easily forget, and from the guilty look on Maze's face, Linda could tell the woman was to blame for Kami's lost memories.

"What did you, Maze?" Linda asked, as Kami's gaze darted between the two.

"Okay, what the fuck is going on? You, Lucifer, Amenadiel, now even you, Linda, seem to be in on some big goddamn secret, so what is it? C'mon! Tell me!" Kami insisted, as Maze gulped.

"We had an argument. And I...I freaked out...I didn't mean to hurt you, Kami, I'd never want to—" Maze began, as Kami started speaking over her.

"I found blood outside the house. You...you said I fell over...but I didn't, did I?" Kami realised, a horrified expression growing on her face, as Maze gave no reply.

"Did you hit me?" Kami questioned, a moment later, reaching up to touch her head, feeling the wound that had blistered over.

"It wasn't like that. I just...there's more to it than that" Maze insisted, as Kami let out a harsh scoff.

"What? What else is there to say?" Kami retorted, as Maze looked away from her.

"I think maybe we need to take a breather, calm ourselves down—" Linda interjected, as Kami stopped her, holding a hand up.

"No! No, I don't want to hear any more excuses! You either hit me or you didn't!" Kami yelled, as Maze looked close to tears.

"...I'm sorry. I...I just didn't want to lose you" Maze stuttered, not knowing what else to say.

"We're done. We're so fucking done" Kami spat out, backing up a step.

"Kami, wait!" Maze cried, reaching out for her, not missing how Kami flinched at the motion.

"Stay away from me" Kami muttered, before turning on her heel and rushing out the room, ignoring the way Maze called out for her.

An hour later, she found herself at the 'sit in' Lucifer had organised at Lux, hoping to prevent himself from being evicted from the premises. Kami had no problem with getting drunk that night, grabbing a shot from the nearest table, and downing it easily. Drowning her sorrows seemed like a pretty normal way to react, she figured. She was already four drinks down when Lucifer spotted her, approaching Kami with a wide grin on his face.

"Well, now the party can really get started" Lucifer exclaimed, as she held her drink up to him.

"Cheers!" She giggled, clinking their glasses together, with a little more force than she meant, as half her vodka splattered over the floor.

"You certainly seem jolly tonight" Lucifer pointed out, as she shrugged.

"I'm celebrating being single again!" She informed him, holding her arms up above her head.

"Single?" Lucifer frowned, as she was quick to down the rest of her drink.

"I broke up with Maze. It's over...finished...doneso..." Kami stuttered over her words.

"What did she tell you?" Lucifer questioned, anxiety welling up inside of him.

"Oh, just this and that. We had some argument and she slammed my head into a wall" Kami shrugged, reaching out to grab his drink, and began swallowing the contents.

"She what?!" Lucifer gaped, barely able to stop his eyes from glowing red.

"I really know how to pick em', huh?" Kami laughed, the amusement not reaching her eyes.

"Are you alright, Kami?" Lucifer asked, genuine concern clear in his voice.

"Never better" She replied, finishing off his drink as well.

"I certainly never thought I'd say this at my own club but...I think you've had enough" Lucifer told her, removing the glass from her hand.

"Don't be such a killjoy" She complained, with a pout.

"You're not—" Lucifer's words were cut off, as the music came to a sudden stop.

Kami turned around to see a group of police officers walking down the steps, as the crowd began booing them. She had almost forgotten what they were all doing there in the first place, instantly sobering up a little.

"Stormtroopers have arrived, everyone! Don't worry, I'll deal with the boys in blue. You are the boys in blue, aren't you? The strippers aren't due for another hour" Lucifer smirked, as he approached the group.

"Lucifer Morningstar, you need to leave these premises immediately or—" The nearest police officer began, as Kami pushed herself in between the two.

"Michael! Hey, man. I bet you haven't seen Luce since he paired you up with your girlfriend, huh? Aren't you two engaged now?" Kami exclaimed, as the man opened his mouth to speak, but she was already turning to the next cop.

"And Ben! Benny. You look great! What happened? Oh yeah, Lucifer got you onto that celebrity weight loss programme for...how much was it again? Free?" Kami went on, as the officers began looking at each other.

"And you Dean...well, I don't think you guys have really talked much, but you like my friend here, right? He's been bloody great to all of you since I came to the precinct, so what's one more night before you serve your warrant?" Kami explained, quirking an eyebrow.

"...I suppose one night won't hurt" Michael mumbled, as the others slowly nodded.

"Twenty-fours hours" Ben told her, as she gave him a salute.

"Bye!" Lucifer waved to them, as they began their ascent back up the stairs.

"Crank the music back up!" Lucifer called out, as the music began blaring from the speakers again.

"Well, that went better than expected" Kami huffed, as Lucifer reached out to grab her hand, pulling her towards the dancefloor.

"I think the saviour of the night owes me a dance" Lucifer smirked, as she shook her head, vehemently.

"No! No, I can't dance" She groaned, allowing him to pull her onto the dancefloor nonetheless.

Kami tried swaying to the music, noticing the speakers were playing 'Should I stay or should I go', her vision blurring somewhat. She felt ridiculously awkward, not having any of the natural rhythm Lucifer seemed to, who appeared to be having the time of his life.

"Well, luckily for you, I'm a great teacher" Lucifer grinned, wrapping his arm around her waist, pulling Kami close to his body.

He took her smaller hand in his own and began moving them around in a circle, swaying them to the beat of the music. Kami clutched onto his shoulder, laughing as he moved them around the dancefloor until she started matching his rhythm. All of a sudden, he held his arm up and began twisting her around, before pulling her back in as she almost collided with his chest, giggling as she did so. Now far more relaxed, she laid her chin on his shoulder, a broad smile on her own face as they spun around and around, feeling like she was on top of the world. She felt him press closer to her, until his own cheek was resting against hers, so close that she could the way his heart was beating hard in his chest. He intertwined their fingers, giving a small squeeze, feeling ridiculously content, something which Kami felt too. She never wanted the dance to end.

Unknown to the pair, Lucifer's mother was watching them with interest, her brow furrowed. When she had first laid eyes on the strange human, she had reminded her of someone from long ago, but watching the girl dancing with her son, not having a care in the world, she realised she must have been mistaken. Still, there was something about the human that put her on edge. For more reasons than one.

"He really does love this place, doesn't he?" Charlotte mumbled, causing a smirk to grow on Linda's lips, who was standing beside her.

"Yes. 'This place'" Linda scoffed, the amusement clear in her voice

The Goddess' eyes darted between the doctor and the pair still laughing on the dancefloor, her frown deepening. She would be damned if she let her son throw his life away for some measly human. Of course, there was more than one way to deal with the girl, she figured.

"Shit, did I sleep through the 'sit in'?" Kami mumbled, stumbling out of the elevator in Lux, finding Lucifer sitting by his piano.

She had woken up ten minutes earlier, finding herself in Lucifer's bed, tucked under the covers. He must have taken her up there the night before, the thought of it making her blush. She hoped she didn't embarrass herself too much. Lucifer turned as he heard her approach, a smile on his face as he passed her a folder.

"Not necessary anymore. Your sister saved the day. Lux has been named a heritage site. This building has had quite the interesting history" He explained, as she gaped at him.

"I knew Chlo would come through" Kami grinned, as she sat down beside him.

"And we found out the real killer. Well, perhaps. It seems that Eric Cooper and his wife were both involved. The old man had been trying to make up evidence Christi, his wife, had been cheating and I suppose they both...snapped" Lucifer went on.

"Looks like you didn't need my help, after all" Kami stated, as he shook his head.

"I'll always need your help" Lucifer shrugged, as their eyes connected for a moment.

"Thank you, by the way. For cutting me off when you did. A nurse turning up in the ER needing her stomach pumped would be way too embarrassing" Kami huffed.

"Well, I do like a good pumping" Lucifer teased, as she rolled her eyes.

"...Have you heard from Maze?" Kami inquired, as Lucifer shook her head.

"I don't plan to speak to her for quite some time" He replied, tensely.

"She's your best friend, Luce. Don't mess that up just for me" Kami insisted.

"Doesn't mean I can't let her suffer a little" Lucifer shrugged, as Kami gave him a look.

"The truth is...I don't think things had been working with me and Maze for a while. It's not just her fault, I've been distant. Maybe this is for the best" Kami sighed, as Lucifer reached out to place his hand on her arm.

"Why don't we go out for dinner tonight? To take your mind off it? I know this amazing steakhouse and...and the chef's an absolute artist in the kitchen. I mean, he's also a degenerate gambler and owes me a favour. Otherwise, you'll just go home and eat one of those poisonous microwaveable meals that you live off. Come on, Kami" Lucifer insisted, nudging her with his arm, looking surprisingly nervous.

"Well, I suppose if you're paying..." Kami trailed off, with a grin.

"Only as friends though. And limited flirting, alright?" Kami warned, as Lucifer held his hands up in mock defence.

"I will be the perfect gentleman" Lucifer assured her, all but bubbling with excitement.

"What do you think, Doctor? White or black?" Lucifer questioned, looking at himself in the mirror, debating what colour shirt to wear to dinner that night.

"Lucifer, I'm worried you may be getting ahead of yourself. Kami did point out this was only as friends" Linda stated, as he waved his hand dismissively.

"Of course. It's a friend-date. Which will lead into a date-date and so on" Lucifer exclaimed, as Linda let out a sigh.

"Kami is going to be feeling very vulnerable right now. She's confused and hurting. What she doesn't need is you trying to get into her pants" Linda explained, making Lucifer's brow furrow.

"You think...that's not what I want, Doctor. With Kami, it's different. It feels different. It's...exciting" Lucifer admitted, as he went to sit down on the couch opposite.

"I know Kami means a great deal to you. But, right now, she only needs a friend, Lucifer. And if that isn't something you can provide, then perhaps this dinner isn't something you should attend" Linda went on.

"You make it sound like I can't control myself" Lucifer huffed, in annoyance.

"When we like someone, it can be difficult to pull away, to give them the space they need. Especially, if we might even lov—" Linda began, but Lucifer was quick to cut her off, his eyes widening.

"I think that's just about enough feelings talk today" Lucifer exclaimed, as Linda gave him a small smile.

"I think you came to Los Angeles looking for something, Lucifer. But I also think you've stopped... because maybe you've found it" Linda informed him, as Lucifer's mouth went slack.

Was Linda right? Could he really imagine his life without Kami in it?

Kami shook her head, as she stormed out of the steakhouse, glancing down at her phone and the messages she had left Lucifer. Why did he suggest going to dinner if he wasn't even going to show up? Why did she even agree to go in the first place?

I hope whatever your better plans were tonight were worth it.

She stared at the message that she had typed out, before angrily deleting the sentence, realising she sounded like some jealous girlfriend. Maybe it was for the best Lucifer didn't come. It certainly made things less complicated for her. She walked over to her car, almost tripping over her high heels, which she wasn't used to wearing. Looking down at the short dress she was also wearing, she grimaced, realising it looked like she was trying way too hard. Feeling her eyes water with embarrassment, she tried to unlock her car, letting out a groan when she dropped her keys on the ground. Just as she crouched down to pick them up, a gust of wind almost sent her flying onto her back, causing her to shiver. She frowned when a shadow passed over her, as she craned her head up to find what was casting it, but found nothing but the clear night sky.

Only a few metres away, in the alleyway next to the steakhouse, Lucifer's mother was preparing to push the button on the detonator in her hand. A smirk twitched on her lips as she watched Kami crouch down next to the car, only inches away from the bomb strapped underneath. She would be killed in a matter of seconds. Just as her thumb brushed over the detonator, she watched as Kami looked up at the sky, as if looking for something. The Goddess followed her gaze, a shiver going down her spine when she was engulfed in darkness for just a split second. The shadow that washed over her was gone in the blink of an eye, but its effect could still be felt. For the first time in centuries, the Goddess felt...afraid.
