Ahoy, lads

So… this fic. What has been going on in the background, ever since the long radio silence?

Well… a lot of replanning.

Truth be told, I knew when I got into Warframe that writing a fic for a continuously-expanding setting would inevitably lead to clashes with canon. After all, a LOT of stuff was being held back by the devs, and as such wild speculation was as much as we could make regarding how the lore would move forward.

However… I did not expect the shake up of the status quo to be that hard. Nor did I expect some of the more… out there reveals.

From now on, I'll be discussing MASSIVE Warframe spoilers, so unless you wanna be spoiled of those, I recommend avoiding the text from now on. Otherwise… proceed.

So… Let's start with the most obvious: the New War.

I did not expect Teshin to die. I did not expect Ballas to take over the Origin System, did not expect to see the Mother of Sentients brought forward, Lotus to be purged of Sentient possession AND become customizable based on which facet of her personality you wanted, I did not expect Ordis to gain an actual physical shell… And of course, chief of all, I never, ever saw the Drifter coming.

The fact we now had an option to bring forth an older, more experienced version of our Operator, one who never received the Void (at first, at least), made me extremely giddy, and opened up MASSIVE implications for storytelling, even more so than what we previously had with Operator lore.

This of course, ties to the next point: Duviri Paradox. DE finally delivered it… and it was completely different from what I had thought it to be, in all senses of the word. The expansion has me beyond hyped to play, and I cannot wait to see how we'll affect that absolute clusterfuck of a dimension.

The interim updates also answered more than a few things that I had wondered about, added more than its fair share of cool tidbits I'm now interested in (Joe Madureira's planned wolf Warframe concept is now my favorite Wifeframe), and would fit very well when crossing over to the Halo-verse… Though the lack of update in Umbra lore has certainly been a downside.

Speaking of which, on the other side of the fandom coin, we have Halo… who has not really gone anywhere, even after the release of Infinite… or that unspeakable abomination of a show that we'll pretend never fucking happened.

I expected a game with a beginning, middle and end of a story, or at least something a bit more concrete than what we were given. And even after half a year, there have been no news of story content, coupled with what little lore we have been given painting Infinite to possibly follow the route Destiny took… something that I don't really look forward to.

For comparison, I only played Infinite for a couple of days through three free months of Game Pass, and then never thought of purchasing it.

Having said all that, touched upon these tidbits and on what both franchises did with their respective IPs… what is the plan for the fic?

With full honesty and certainty… a full rewrite.

The ending has now long been lost, due to the sheer scale of the "maybe" that was Infinite's ending, and conversely, the absolute meteor that was the New War and what Duviri Paradox's gearing up to be. Coupled with that is the fact I was planning on rewriting all the way from Halo 5 (plus some of 4)… and yeah, Discarded Blade requires some thorough unfucking.

This is coupled with me looking back at some decisions made already on the fic, which I now regret doing so early, and would like to re-do.

So, bottom line? Discarded Blade is now planned to being rewritten, with a release date being unknown.

It'll most likely be done before Burning Fire's rewrite, at least, considering that has to wait until Berserk is finished.

That does not mean, however, that all content will be rendered non-canon anymore, far from it. All omakes will still be considered canon in-story, and I will make them fit together into whatever rewrite plans are made.

I can promise one thing, though: Umbra will be in the story… But he won't be alone anymore.

That's all for now, folks. Stay safe, and may your dreams be peaceful!
