A few days later Sami entered the Townhouse after spending the afternoon with EJ, Johnny and Sydney. She found her mom sitting on the couch in the living room. 'Hi mom.' She said.
'Hi there stranger.' Marlena said. She had barely seen her daughter the last week so she came home a little early from the hospital in the hopes of running into her.
Sami shot her mother an apologizing look. 'Sorry mom, I know I haven't been around much…' She said. She had been avoiding her parents since the fight with Nicole. She knew they disagreed about the restraining order and about the way she handled Nicole period.
'You haven't, ever since your fight with Nicole.' Marlena stated. She motioned for Sami to sit down on the couch next to her, which she did.
'Right, a lot has happened since that night and EJ and I wanted to spend some family time with Sydney so she could feel safe and secure.' Sami explained, telling her part of the truth.
'So you haven't been avoiding me or John?' Marlena asked straight out.
'Maybe I have a little...' Sami admitted.
'Why?' Marlena asked.
'I know you disagree about the way I handled things with Nicole and Belle too…I just didn't want to get into all that.' Sami said, shrugging her shoulders.
'Yes, I would like for you to think about what you're doing instead of diving into a fight head first and saying and doing hurtful things that won't help anyone.' Marlena said sternly.
'I know that, mom.' Sami said. 'And I know it hurts you when I fight with Belle but I honestly don't think we will ever be okay again.' She added, preparing her mother for the worst.
Marlena took a shaky breath. 'I know a lot has happened between you and Belle but as a mother I will never stop hoping that you will be close again.'
'I understand, mom, I feel the same way about my kids.' Sami said. 'But I also think we should be realistic here.'
Before Marlena could reply they were interrupted by the doorbell ringing.
Marlena opened the door to find Rafe on the other side. 'Hi Rafe, how can I help you?' She asked, stepping aside to let him in.
'Hi Marlena, Sami. I'm here on official police business actually.' Rafe asked, as he walked in.
'Well then you're probably not here for me.' Marlena said, giving Sami a knowing look.
'Mom…' Sami answered, a little embarrassed.
'No, you're right, Marlena. I'm here for Sami.' Rafe said, looking at Sami.
'What is it, Rafe?' Sami asked. If he was here to interfere in her fight with Nicole she would give him hell but it was just as likely he was there because something had happened with the Clyde and EJ situation.
'I'm here because someone confessed to EJ's shooting this morning.' Rafe answered, watching Sami's reaction closely. He thought it was a bit too coincidental that Clyde would suddenly confess after all these years.
'Which one?' Sami asked coyly, not letting Rafe bait her into saying something she shouldn't.
'Hmm funny.' Rafe countered but he was not laughing.
'What?' Sami asked innocently. 'He has been shot quite a few times as you know.'
'I'm talking about his latest shooting, the one that took him away from you and the kids for years.' Rafe replied seriously.
A painful look crossed Sami's face as she thought back to that time. She didn't have to fake that part. 'Who confessed?' She asked.
'Clyde Weston.' Rafe answered.
'Clyde shot EJ?' Sami asked, feigning surprise. EJ had asked her earlier to act like she didn't know anything if anyone asked questions regarding his shooting.
'Why?' Marlena chimed in, confused.
'Well Clyde didn't shoot EJ himself but he gave the order to one of his goons. Apparently there was some sort of business disagreement. He didn't give me much details about that part.' Rafe explained.
'Did you tell EJ about this?' Sami asked, playing her part.
'One of my detectives is informing EJ as we speak.' Rafe answered.
'But you're here telling me yourself?' Sami questioned.
'Yes, I wanted to talk to you myself…to see if you know anything that could help with the investigation.' Rafe replied. He already knew EJ wouldn't tell him anything but with Sami he had a small chance.
'The investigation into EJ's shooting? What would I know? I mean other than what I told you back when it happened.' Sami asked.
'Well something seems off about Clyde's confession. I obviously haven't had time to investigate his claims but it's a bit strange that he's confessing out of nowhere after so many years is it not?' Rafe asked.
'So you think Clyde's lying?' Sami asked.
'Not necessarily but he did look a little worse for wear. I think EJ might have something to do with Clyde's confession.' Rafe answered.
'And you think EJ would tell me if he did?' Sami asked.
'You're still his wife.' Rafe said, giving her a knowing look. I wouldn't a stretch if Sami conspired with EJ, she had in the past.
'I am. That's why I think Clyde deserves to go to prison for the rest of his life if he had anything to do with EJ's shooting and I really don't care how or when he got to the point where he made this confession.' Sami said stubbornly.
Rafe sighed realizing Sami wasn't going to be any help. 'Right, you're still protecting EJ. Even after the stunt he pulled at the courthouse and finding out he slept with your sister.'
'First of all; you did the same thing with Carrie when we were married and second of all; why don't you focus on the crime that was committed against EJ instead of finding some way to blame him.' Sami answered.
'I'm just looking at the full picture here.' Rafe explained. 'But if this confession turns out to be true I promise you I will do anything I can to lock Clyde up for the rest of his life. Same goes for the guy that pulled the trigger.' Rafe promised. He couldn't care less about EJ but he did see how heartbroken Sami and the kids were in the years after his shooting. They deserved justice.
'Do you have him in custody as well?' Sami asked, wondering if the guy that actually pulled the trigger was still in Salem as well.
'Not yet but Clyde provided enough information to arrest him, so we will soon.' Rafe answered.
'Alright, keep me posted, please?' Sami asked.
'Sure.' Rafe agreed and he made his way back to the front door. Marlena thanked Rafe for stopping by and she opened the door to let him out.
'Are you okay, Sweetie?' Marlena asked, after Rafe left.
'Yeah, mom, I'm okay. It's good news, right?' She responded.
'Well sure.. but it's still a lot to take in.' Marlena said, shooting her daughter a worried look.
'I'll be fine, mom…I just want to move on from all the horrible things that happened in the last 8 years.' Sami explained.
'Move on with EJ?' Marlena asked. 'I noticed you have been spending a lot of time with him.' She added.
'We have been talking a lot and getting closer.' Sami answered honestly. She might as well let her mother get used to the idea of her and EJ getting back together.
'What about your concern that EJ is not the man you married anymore?' Marlena wondered.
'The last few weeks EJ has done a lot to show me that he is putting me and our family first from now on. Just like he would have in the past.' Sami explained.
'Well you will have one very happy daughter if you do get back together.' Marlena said, looking for something positive to say. 'But please make sure you are a 100% sure before you make any decisions.' She pleaded. She was scared of how much it would hurt both her daughter and granddaughter if Sami and EJ's marriage blew up again.
'I will, mom. I promise.' Sami answered.
'Thank you.' Marlena said. 'I should get some groceries for dinner, will you and Sydney be joining us?' She asked, changing the subject.
'I actually want to talk to EJ tonight about the Clyde thing.' Sami explained. 'But I would be grateful if you could feed Sydney?'
'Of course we will, Honey, but please promise me that you're not going to avoid us any longer? I guess we will just have to agree to disagree about Nicole and Belle for now.' Marlena offered.
'I promise to report to family breakfast first thing tomorrow morning.' Sami said jokingly.
'Good.' Marlena said, giving her daughter a smile. 'I love you, Sweetie.'
'I love you too, mom.' Sami answered, giving her mother a hug. 'See you later.'
She watched her mother leave and she shot EJ a quick text. 'Can we talk somewhere private tonight?'
'I'm alone at the Mansion, everyone is out. Talk first and then have dinner?' He replied.
'Sure, see you around 6.' Sami texted back.
