Alex literally runs into Winn coming from the elevator at the same time Alex furiously wheels herself down the hallway despite the restrictive brace still wrapped on her wrist. Kelsey jogged after her with a deepening guilty expression at Winn's noticed glance between them. The mini-crash not seeming to phase either of the hurrying pair, but Winn does pause long enough to both steady Alex's tipping wheelchair and wrap his arms around the terrified mother for a reassuring hug. If he realizes Alex melt into it complete with a small nuzzle of her tear-stained face against the crook of his neck for a half second before she was pulling away looking the picture of terrifying woman on a mission, he doesn't comment.
"That little girl is as terrifyingly brilliant and strong as her mother." Winn says far surer of himself than Alex in the moment as he pulls back from their too-quick mini hug to meet her nervous gaze. Considering her jaw was still wired closed it wasn't like Alex couldn't actually answer back, and she was too keyed up to write anything on the small notepad one of the nurses had given her.
"She's gonna be alright." Winn repeats lightly resting his forehead to Alex's in that reassuring younger brother way of his before cracking a weak smile that in no way reached his eyes before speaking again "actually I'm more worried for the goons that took her." The computer-savvy man attempts to joke tapping ever so gently at Alex's braced hand. "or is she a little young to be threatening harm with her index finger?" he questions taking charge of pushing Alex's wheelchair the rest of the way towards the taken over the on-call room the rest of their group had claimed after the kidnapping.
Alex gave what might have been an attempt at a laugh, but Winn wasn't about to doubt it.
The first thing Alex notices when the door beeps open is her ex's hunched outline in the shadow of one of the beds the room offered. Maggie's head rests against both a pillow as well as the Danvers' mother's lap as Eliza hums under her breath as if for a lullaby as she cards a hand in the detective's hair. A battered white polar bear hugged jealousy against the shaking cop's chest just visible passed the blanket tossed over her Maggie's trembling shoulders.
Kara and Linda are both too busy to bother asking for such reassurances at the moment although both looked like they could use it.
Kara sitting curled under a low-grade sunlamp in an attempted recovery of her own in one corner an open notebook balanced against a chair arm whilst her twin was currently speed writing equations of her own onto one of the three large dry erase boards propped against the remaining walls.
"See you two decided to start without me." Winn attempted to joke wheeling Alex closest to her mother and Maggie. "Lena's on her way but she also said she needed to swing by the lab before she heads over." He goes on catching Kara's expectant glance towards the door.
"Well once we decided it would be pointless to try tracking her watch it wasn't that hard to change tactics," Kara says lightly nuzzling her cheek into Winn's palm as he gingerly pushes a few stray locks of blonde hair back behind the distracted reporter's ear as he passes. "We've hit a snag with the actual tracking part considering the stone was meant to be heat reactant." She goes on scribbling down another line in her notebook after a shy smile that also didn't reach her eyes.
"But the ring itself should still be simple to pinpoint considering it was of Kryptonian origins." Linda adds in after another heartbroken sniff of a not-so-hidden sob from the shadow that was Maggie Sawyer.
"Totally stole this from Star Trek." Winn muttered his laptop already out of his satchel and powering up as he tries to find an open seat not already taken up with smaller dry erase boards with half-finished Kryptonian equations. "After the Melvern thing Mags asked that your engagement rings be fitted with some trace aspect incase you ever turned up missing again." Winn explains with a glance in Maggie's direction as he met Alex's puzzled expression. "It was also meant to be your something blu…." He trails off his expression now one of even more guilt at the attempted humor that only ended with another painful reminder of the wedding that never was.
"Hey, Lin mind helping me out with those…" Winn pauses clearing his throat louder than needed in the small space as he gestures towards the closest line of marked Kryptonian script. "those um equations?" he guesses
Linda rolls her eyes as she gives a half turn from the board in question to press a light kiss to her boyfriend's cheek. "I have these you get to work helping Kara trace a heat pattern much weaker than we expected." She offers instead.
"Lin's working on a 'You took our cub, prepare to die' plan for when J'onn or Mad Dog jr call in that they found a lead." Eliza translates even attempting a weak imitation of Inigo Montoya's accent as she spoke having finished her self-appointed job of topping off her twin's drinks after Alex had taken over 'Maggie watch' before passing Winn a cup of his own.
The fresh flavor of warm cocoa seems to momentarily calm the four then the moment passes as Eliza reaches for a dry erase marker herself with a correcting "That cosign isn't high enough even for a weakened sample. What about this one?" as she adds a few more Kryptonian markings of her own to the smaller board Kara was working with.
