"I end my turn." Luna declared.

"Then I draw!" The boy spoke, with more spirit than he had had before.

"Tyrant Dragon attacks Fairy Archer."

"Ahh!" Fairy Archer let out a scream as it was destroyed by a quick swipe of Tyrant Dragon's tail.

"I end my turn."

"It's my turn now. I draw!"

Zero: Lp(3000)CIH: 2 Luna: Lp(2400)CIH: 2

I need to find a way to beat that Tyrant Dragon. But it has the same amount of attack points as my Fairy King Truesdale, so there's no way for me to defeat it right now. But wait! Luna looked at the card she just drew. Maybe I can use this to protect my monsters.

"I activate the field spell- Ancient Forest!" Luna declared as the room around them transformed into the forest of the Spirit World.

"NO! No, no, no, not this place!" The boy shouted, looking down in fear and covering his head with his arms.

"Now, while the Ancient Forest field spell is in play, whenever a monster attacks, that monster is destroyed afterwards." Luna explained. "I place one card facedown and end my turn."

"..."

"Um? It's your turn, now." Luna prodded, but her opponent, now curled up in the fetal position, didn't respond.

"No... no, not this place, no..." The boy muttered, too quietly for Luna to even hear.

"Um, what's wrong?" Luna questioned.

"WHY DID YOU BRING ME BACK?!" The boy screamed suddenly as he stood up and the wind that had been constantly blowing through the room became even stronger, nearly blowing Luna off her feet entirely.

"I THOUGHT I FINALLY ESCAPED! But now... I'm back again."

*Drip*

"Is he... crying?" Luna questioned. "He's crying! Hey, it's okay! I'm not here to hurt you, so don't-"

"I DRAW!" Zero ruthlessly cut Luna off, drawing his card with newfound force.

Zero: Lp(3000)CIH: 3 Luna: Lp(2400)CIH: 0

"I activate Stamping Destruction! Now, since I control Tyrant Dragon, I can destroy this mean forest!" Tyrant Dragon slapped its tail on the ground, causing it to split, and the entire forest to tremble. The trees started falling, and the sky was replaced with the ceiling of the room in which they were dueling.

*Gulp* "Well, there goes my strategy." Luna remarked as her field spell was destroyed.

"Next, due to Stamping Destruction, you take five hundred points of damage!" Tyrant Dragon turned around, slapping Luna with its tail, knocking her into the wall, from which she fell to the ground.

"Aaaaaagh!"

Luna! Ancient Fairy Dragon called out in concern. Luna Lp(2400-1900)

"I-I'm fine, Ancient Fairy Dragon." Luna reassured weakly as she tried to stand up. "I'm not going down that eas-ugh!" Luna fell down on her knees, shaking as she tried to keep herself from falling face-first on the floor.

I knew it. This boy's powers are strong. Ancient Fairy Dragon warned. You have to be careful. Any more attacks from him could be the end of you.

"Y-yeah." Luna groaned as she got up on one leg, then the other, lifting herself back up to continue fighting.

"Now I activate the special ability of Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos!" Zero declared.

Blaster?!

"Did he say Blaster?"

This is bad, Luna.

"By sending Blaster from my hand to the graveyard, along with Burner, Dragon Ruler of Sparks, I can destroy your Fairy King Truesdale!"

"Nooooo!" Luna cried as Fairy King Truesdale was surrounded in a tornado of fire and burned to its destruction.

"Now Tyrant Dragon attacks you directly!" Tyrant Dragon swung its tail at Luna once again.

"I activate my trap- Defense Draw!" Luna sighed in relief as Tyrant's tail bounced off the blue barrier that formed around her. "Thanks to this card, I don't take any damage from your monster's attack, and I also get to draw a card from my deck!" Luna explained as she drew the top card of her deck.

"I end my turn!" Zero declared aggressively.

"Something's wrong, Ancient Fairy Dragon. He's acting completely different than before."

He's finally broken. He's so scared that he's doing whatever it takes to protect himself.

"Why is he so scared?"

You should be asking him that question.

"You're right, but I don't think he's really in a 'chatting' mood right now. Maybe if I can cool him down in this duel, I'll be able to get him to talk to me."

It's worth a shot.

Luna nodded. "Right." Let's hope this works. "I draw!"

"Power Tool!" Leo cried out in fear of what may have happened to his favorite monster after suffering the brunt of Blaster's attack.

Graaaaagh! Power Tool Dragon gave a fierce roar as the smoke dissipated, revealing Power Tool Dragon, still standing upright, but covered in burn marks on its armor and arms. The boy behind him had not stirred.

"Alright, Power Tool Dragon! Way to go, I knew this guy couldn't beat you! Now go get 'em!" Leo cheered as Power Tool Dragon flew towards Blaster, tackling it in midair.

"YOU DARE CHALLENGE ME? PAH! YOU'RE NOT EVEN A DRAGON!" Blaster mocked as it blasted Power Tool Dragon's head with fire at point-blank range, causing his head to recoil back, loosening his grip on Blaster, which Blaster took advantage of, scratching at Power Tool's claw with its own, causing Power Tool to drop Blaster, who then breathed another stream of fire into Power Tool's face.

Graaaagh! Power Tool Dragon roared in pain as it landed on the ground behind Leo. Blaster followed suit, landing in front of Leo.

"Don't listen to 'em, Power Tool! You're not just a dragon, you're a really, totally, super, amazing dragon! With cool armor and gadgets!" Leo encouraged Power Tool Dragon as he and Power Tool stared at each other.

Gragh.

"Right, get behind you. Wouldn't want to get in your way." Leo agreed, following Power Tool's commands, and sprinting back to where the boy was unconscious on the ground.

Graaaagh!

"BRING IT ON!" Power Tool Dragon and Blaster flew towards each other, meeting each other in the middle of the room in less than a second, butting heads so hard that Leo could hear the clash as loud as if it were Leo butting heads. Blaster opened his mouth up to launch another stream of fire, but Power Tool Dragon grabbed his mouth with its claw, forcing it shut. With a ferocious roar, Blaster grabbed the sides of Power Tool Dragon with its claws, throwing it back to the ground with a thud.

"Don't give up, Power Tool Dragon!" Leo cheered.

Gragh!

"Huh? You want me to- ohhhh!" Leo nodded in realization before turning towards the boy on the ground again.

"WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING? I'LL STOP-" Blaster's words were interrupted by a slap from Power Tool Dragon's tail that knocked Blaster to the ground. With a growl, Power Tool Dragon flew to the floor, crashing into Blaster, and knocking him through it, leaving a massive hole in the center of the room.

"Good work, buddy!" Leo cheered before returning his attention to the unconscious boy. Fervently, Leo pulled at the chain on the boy's right wrist, trying to pull it apart.

Good thing Power Tool Dragon got them all started. Leo thought as he managed to widen the gap between the chain's clasps by a few inches.

"I draw!"

"I activate Graceful Charity! Now I can draw three cards, but then I have to discard two of them." Luna explained as she discarded Horn of the Unicorn.

Now that I see him for myself, I can tell that you're right. He has the scent of someone who's been through much hardship. Regulus told Luna.

"Yeah. Now if only he'd tell me about some of those 'hardships' so I can help him." He won't listen to me now, but maybe if I-

"A-aaaaaaah-"

There is no need to fear me, young child. Ancient Fairy Dragon spoke soothingly as she descended onto the field, her regal presence illuminating the room. I have not come to do harm to you. As the ruler of the Spirit World, I apologize for whatever it is that Blaster has done to you.

"Y-you... apologize?" The boy questioned in confusion.

"Aaaaaaaaaargh! Annnnnnd, there! Ah man, my hands hurt." Leo complained as he looked down at his sore, red hands, covered in blisters. "At least I finally got his arms free." Leo said cheerfully as he dropped the second wrist chain to the ground with a thud.

"I KNEW IT!" Blaster's furious voice cut through the air, so obviously mad that it caused Leo to tremble as he listened to the sound of... something, coming closer from below.

"YOU BRAT! HOW DARE YOU TRY AND FREE MY TEST SUBJECT!" Blaster shouted as he appeared from the hole in the ground, landing right in front of Leo.

Leo continued trembling as he looked up to stare the massive dragon in the face. "Test subject?! He's not a test subject! He's just a kid! That's no way to treat someone!"

"THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU, SO JUST LEAVE, AND SPARE YOURSELF THE FATE OF YOUR DRAGON."

"My dragon? Power Tool? You... What'd you do to Power Tool Dragon?!" Leo asked with tears of anger as he shook his fist at the much larger dragon.

"I SENT HIM TO THE GRAVEYARD. BUT PERHAPS YOUR DRAGON WOULD NOT HAVE MET SUCH A TERRIBLE END, HAD YOU NOT STUCK YOUR NOSE WHERE IT DOESN'T BELONG."

"...ong." Leo muttered.

"WHAT'D YOU SAY? I COULDN'T HEAR YOU." Blaster mocked.

"You're wrong! This does involve me! Not just because it's your fault that my sister is fighting this poor kid on Earth right now, but also because no one deserves to be treated like this. I mean look at him!" Leo gestured to the boy still sitting unconscious on the floor.

"I mean, look at him! He's barely even got any clothes, and he's obviously hurt! And what do you do, you big jerk?! You chain him up in a dusty, dirty old attic! There's no way I could ignore that, even if it meant I got sent to the graveyard!" As Leo shouted, a duel disk materialized on his left arm.

"WHAT?! A DUEL DISK?! NO!" In a panic, Blaster launched a stream of fire at Leo, completely blocking his vision of the corner of the room. "PHEW. THAT SHOULD'VE TAKEN CARE OF THE GREEN-HAIRED BRAT." Blaster didn't bother worrying about his test subject. Flames that weak wouldn't damage him irreparably.

Gragh! Suddenly, the flames dissipated, and in their place was Power Tool Dragon, brandishing the claw he had just used to swipe the flames away from his partner.

"HOW COULD THIS BE?! YOU WERE DESTRO- NOOOOOO!" Blaster's gaze was drawn to the green light behind Power Tool Dragon. Looking closer, Blaster saw that the green light was coming from Leo's right hand, while Leo was standing between Blaster and the boy on the ground. More specifically, the light was the glow of the card held in Leo's right hand.

Monster Reborn.

"Glad to have you back, Power Tool Dragon!" Leo spoke cheerfully, a wide grin on his face.

Gragh. Power Tool Dragon nodded in agreement.

"Now then, let's save the day like superheroes!"

Graaaaaagh!

"I activate the equip spell- Double Tool C&D!" Leo declared, the card in his right hand changing as Power Tool Dragon was equipped with the new weapons. As soon as he was fitted with Leo's equip spell, Power Tool Dragon flew towards Blaster, extending its new silver drill towards its neck. Blaster, not to be defeated so easily, grabbed the drill with both claws and struggled to stop it from getting any closer to his head.

"Yeah! Way to go, Power Tool Dragon! Give him the old 'one, two'!" Leo played cheerleader from the sidelines.

Gragh! Power Tool Dragon reared back its other arm, with its red saw, and swung it at Blaster's head.

"JUST BECAUSE YOU'VE GOT A POWER-UP DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN BEAT ME!" Blaster hollered as he spewed flames from his mouth, pushing back Power Tool's saw.

"Gooooooooo!"

Graaaaaaaaagh! Power Tool Dragon continued pushing its saw forward, inch by inch, Blaster's flames getting weaker and weaker as Power Tool's saw neared his head.

"Crafty Break!" Leo declared, punching the air in front of him as Power Tool Dragon sliced Blaster's head with his saw, destroying him.

"Alright, way to go, Power Tool Dragon!" Leo cheered as Blaster disappeared from the room.

Gragh.

"You're right, it's not over, we still have to free-" Before Leo could finish speaking, a snapping sound came from behind him, prompting him to turn around and look at the boy on the ground.

"Huh? What happened to his chains?" Leo questioned.

Gragh.

"Oh, that makes sense. They went away when Blaster was destroyed. Well, I guess it's back home to cheer on Luna, then."

Power Tool Dragon shook its head. Gragh.

"What?! Blaster's still in the human world?!"

Gragh!

"Right, sorry. So we gotta go and help Luna beat Blaster back home, then?" Leo questioned. Power Tool Dragon nodded. "Just one question... how do we get back home, anyways?"

Gragh?

"What?! You don't know? Aww!" Leo groaned as he fell to the ground. "I wish I knew how I even got here, anyway. I thought it was because Luna brought me along, but she left, and I'm still here." Leo turned and looked at the boy. Although he was free from his chains, he was still asleep. His face was still covered in scratches and bruises, as was the rest of his body. Looking closely, Leo also noticed a small burn on his right arm.

"Hmm... maybe he's the key." Leo thought aloud, reaching for the boy. Upon putting his arm on the boy's left shoulder, he heard a flurry of thoughts enter his mind. But they weren't his; they belonged to the other boy.

Help me!

Why is everyone so mean to me?

Will anyone ever help me?

Mommy, Daddy. I miss you... I WANT TO GO HOME!

The intensity of the last thought caught Leo so off-guard that it knocked him backwards, Leo's body glowing bright green as he fell.

"Whoa! Wh-what's happening?!" Leo exclaimed in confusion.

Gragh. Gragh, gragh gragh gragh gragh. Power Tool Dragon explained calmly.

"Huh? What do you mean by that? This is all so confusing! Argh, I don't have time to think about it! Hey! I'll help you get home, so trust me, okay?" Leo requested as he reached for the boy once again, putting his hand on his shoulder. When he did that, the room Leo was in began to slip away, becoming a tunnel of space. Leo could see the stars glowing around him as he, the boy, and Power Tool Dragon were seemingly pushed through the tunnel.

"So... we're on our way back to Earth now, right?"

Power Tool Dragon simply nodded in response.

"Alright! Don't worry, Luna, your big brother is coming to help you!"

"I end my turn with one card facedown. Now, I know that the duel spirits scare you, but can you please tell me why? Why are you so scared of duel spirits? What happened? Maybe, if you tell me, I can help you." Luna pleaded.

"I-I don't want to tell you." The boy responded meekly. His voice was the same as before, but Luna noticed that his eyes looked slightly more alert than before, and that they darted around frantically.

"Why not?" Luna questioned.

"I-I-" The boy collapsed to the ground with a thud. At the same time, the dragon behind him stood up in a jolt, as if he had just been called on in class while daydreaming.

"Um, Ancient Fairy Dragon? What just happe-"

"HOW DARE HE! THAT BOY! AND HIS PIECE OF SCRAP METAL! I WON'T ALLOW IT! I WON'T ALLOW THIS DISGRACE!" Blaster interrupted Luna with a full-force howl, causing the winds in the room to whip harder than they had since Yusei and the others had first entered the room. Again, Luna dug her feet into the ground to try and keep her from flying into the air, but it proved fruitless, and almost immediately, Luna began to feel herself leaving the ground.

"Aah!" Luna closed her eyes, not wanting to see the wall or ceiling she might slam into. To her surprise however, she didn't feel herself crash into a wall. Instead, she felt a pair of arms wrap themselves around her waist, holding her to the ground.

"H-huh?"

"Luna!" A familiar voice called from behind Luna. She turned and opened her eyes to see the identical face of her twin brother, twisted in concentration as Leo held onto Luna for dear life, preventing her from leaving the ground, his feet digging into the ground like Luna's.

"Leo!" Luna exclaimed in shock. "You're awake!"

"Of course I am, Luna. There's no way I'm gonna miss saving the world!" Leo grinned as he continued holding Luna.

"Leo... right! Let's save the world together!" Luna agreed with a small smile on her face. Together, the two twins managed to hold their ground, not allowing the fierce winds to push them backwards.

"MISERABLE HUMANS! YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND UP AGAINST THE POWER OF A DRAGON RULER?! I'LL BLOW YOU AWAY!" Blaster declared furiously.

As if in response to Blaster's words, Luna's mark of the Crimson Dragon's claw began glowing, forming a protective red barrier around the twins, preventing the wind from affecting them at all.

"Phew. I was worried. I didn't know how much longer you'd be able to take it." Leo admitted to his sister as they watched the hurricane-strength winds bounce off the crimson barrier harmlessly and continue blowing through the room.

"Me? I was worried about you!" Luna countered.

"What?! But I'm the stronger one, Luna!" Leo argued.

"Maybe, but you're scared of storms, remember?" Luna reminded her brother, causing him to scratch the back of his head sheepishly.

"Yeah... -but you are too!"

"... Hahahaha!" Both of the twins burst out laughing at their silly argument.

"ARE YOU IGNORING ME?!"

"So, what happened to you, Leo?"

"Oh, it was so crazy, Luna! And so awesome! First, I was in the Spirit World with you, but then, out of nowhere, I woke up in the desert. Then, Power Tool Dragon and I had to raid a castle in order to-"

"Wait. What do you mean, 'raid a castle?'" Luna questioned puzzledly.

"Blaster's castle. Me and Power Tool Dragon had to raid his castle- okay, maybe that's an exaggeration- in order to save that boy we met in the forest earlier. We broke in and fought Blaster, all while rescuing him! He was chained up and trapped in an attic. It was awful, but me and Power Tool Dragon showed the bad guy who's boss!" Leo punched the air to demonstrate.

"So that's what you were doing in the Spirit World. I was really worried about you, Leo."

"Sorry, Luna, but I had to do something! Plus, I didn't realize you were back here, so I was looking for you, too, and I-"

"Okay, Leo. I think that's enough. I just have one question: How did you get back?" Luna asked.

Leo scratched his cheek. "Well, about that... I have no idea. Power Tool tried to explain it to me, but I was really confused." Leo admitted.

I can explain. Ancient Fairy Dragon volunteered from in front of the twins.

"Ancient Fairy Dragon!" Leo exclaimed. "Thanks a bunch!"

No. Thank you for rescuing the soul of that poor boy.

"A-aw, it was nothing." Leo spoke sheepishly, his cheeks tinted pink.

"YOU'RE WRONG, ANCIENT FAIRY DRAGON! THE BOY IS NOT 'RESCUED'! THE TEST SUBJECT IS STILL MINE." Blaster declared, drawing the twins and Ancient Fairy Dragon's attention back to Blaster. In front of Blaster, the injured boy had stood up again. The wind was no longer raging through the room or lifting his hair, which Luna's barrier took as a sign to deactivate.

The boy lifted his head, and his eyes were no longer blurred by anger like they had been before. Now Leo and Luna could see nothing but pain and longing in the red eyes of Luna's opponent.

"Hey! Are you okay?!" Leo questioned louder than he truly needed to. Lowering his volume, he spoke again: "Don't worry, we'll save you from that Blaster jerk. This time, for good."

"You want me to... tell you what happened?" The boy asked Luna softly, ignoring Leo.

"Yeah. You seem like you're really scared of duel spirits. But they're not all bad! A lot of my friends are duel spirits. Like Ancient Fairy Dragon, or Kuribon! So-"

"I don't wanna!" The boy replied with a pout. "I don't wanna remember all those bad things!"

"WELL, YOU'RE GONNA!" Blaster declared, clamping its claws on the sides of the boy's head.

"You! NO! Leave me alone!" The boy protested.

"SUBJECT ZERO. PERHAPS THIS WILL BE THE BEST WAY TO DRAW OUT YOUR TRUE POWER. THANKS FOR THE IDEA, SIGNER GIRL."

"Hey! He said he didn't want to talk about it!"

"Yeah! So leave him alone!" Luna finished Leo's thought.

"HE WON'T HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT. HOW ABOUT I JUST SHOW YOU INSTEAD?" With that question, a red orb filled with flames appeared in between the twins and the boy. The flames inside the orb flickered and faded away, being replaced with what appeared to be a video of a small white house, one story high. It was covered in windows that were beautifully decorated with blue and pink flowers, and on the lawn outside, a small boy, who looked to be no older than four, with long pink hair that looked like it'd never been cut, along with bright green eyes, was throwing a pigskin to a tall man with red hair and kind red eyes behind his black-framed glasses.

HE WAS JUST A NORMAL BOY AT FIRST GLANCE. Blaster narrated, causing Leo and Luna to shoot him annoyed looks while the boy just looked down at his feet.

HE WAS PERHAPS A BIT SMALL FOR HIS AGE, BUT OTHER THAN THAT, HE WAS PERFECTLY HEALTHY.

"Hey, Daddy, can we have ice cream tonight?" The boy in the orb asked.

"Sure, sport."

HE HAD WHAT YOU HUMANS WOULD CALL A GREAT MOTHER. The orb showed a string of scenes of the young boy playing, talking, and eating ice cream with a woman who had green eyes and pink hair with brown streaks in it.

HIS LIFE WAS GREAT. AND ON HIS SIXTH BIRTHDAY, HE GOT THE GIFT EVERY KID DREAMS OF. A DUEL DISK AND A DECK.

"A dragon deck?!" The young boy exclaimed in surprise, his green eyes lighting up with joy. "Oh, thank you, thank you so much, Mommy and Daddy!" The boy jumped with joy, wrapping himself up in a hug with his parents.

"Nothing else for our big boy who's now six whole years old." The boy's father spoke excitedly.

"We love you, sweetie." His mother added.

AND FASTER THAN HIS PARENTS EVER EXPECTED, HE BECAME GREAT AT DUELING. HE WAS EVEN ABLE TO BEAT HIS FATHER IN JUST A FEW SHORT MONTHS.

"Heh, you got me. You should try and beat Mommy next." The boy's father said after Luster Dragon delivered the finishing blow to his life points. "You sure are a natural at this, kiddo. You really love Duel Monsters, don't you?"

The boy nodded his head. "Yeah, I love dueling almost as much as you and Mommy." The boy declared, reaching up for his father's neck, an action to which his father responded by pulling him into a hug.

THE BOY'S PROGRESS WAS ASTONISHING. AND NO ONE KNEW HOW HE PROGRESSED SO FAST. NO ONE KNEW ABOUT HIS ABILITY TO SPEAK TO DUEL SPIRITS.

"Wait, so he can talk to duel spirits just like you, Luna?" Leo questioned.

Luna nodded in response. "Yeah."

THEN, ONE DAY, SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAPPENED. The scene in the orb changed to show the boy inside the house, surrounded by fire.

"Mommy! Daddy! Where are you!" The boy called out, taking a step backwards as the flames facing him came closer.

"Son!" The boy's mother shouted, coming from the hall to his side, sweeping him up in a hug. "Come on, we're going to get out of here." She told her son, running out of the house in the direction from whence she came, covering him with her body.

"Where's Daddy?" The boy questioned as his mom put him down after they escaped the house.

"I don't know, but don't worry, I'm sure he'll be fine. The firefighters are on their way, right now." The mother reassured.

"Hey, I see Daddy! Daddy!" The boy called out, running around the house to the open window where he saw his father, his mother in pursuit. "Daddy!"

"Son! Don't worry about me, I'll be just fine, so get away!" His father responded through the window as he tried to climb out of it.

"What do you mean? It's safe here, there's no-" The boy lost his voice as he watched the flames creep up behind his father.

"Honey, look out!"

"Huh?" The father turned around and was shocked to see the fire was right behind him. He tried to climb through the window as fast as he could, but his sides got caught as they were squeezed by the windowsill.

"Seth!"

"Daddy!"

Seth reached into his pocket and pulled out a card, throwing it out the window, where the boy caught it.

"This is- but Daddy-"

"Use that card well, my son. I know you'll be a greater duelist than I ever was."

"Daddy!"

"Don't worry, I'll be fine, my son." As he said this, the flames consumed Seth's legs, causing him to cry out in pain as his legs were burned. "Believe in the Heart of the Cards, and become strong, Billy." These were the man's last words as the house collapsed, the rubble coming between Billy and his father.

"Daddy! Daaaaaaddy!" Billy wailed. "Dad *sob* Daddy, Daddy..." And then, he broke down in tears, his mother beside him struggling not to do the same.

WHEN THE FIREFIGHTERS CAME AND PUT OUT THE FIRE, ZERO'S FATHER WAS NEVER FOUND.

"That's awful..." Luna spoke sadly. Even Leo was without words, silent before the horror of the scene he'd just witnessed.

You monster. Ancient Fairy Dragon spoke angrily. That was you, wasn't it? You set fire to the boy's home, didn't you?! Ancient Fairy Dragon accused, causing Leo, Luna, and Billy's gazes to snap in Blaster's direction.

ONE DAY, THE BOY DISAPPEARED AS WELL, LEAVING HIS WIDOWED MOTHER TO WALLOW IN GRIEF. Blaster continued his narration, ignoring the angry glares being sent in his direction.

"I did not!" Billy screamed furiously, the red orb disappearing as he did. "It was your fault! You took me away to the Spirit World so you and your buddies could beat me up!"

"I PREFER TO CALL IT EXPERIMENTATION, ZERO." Blaster refuted. "IT WAS FOR THE SAKE OF HARNESSING YOUR TRUE POWER!"

"Well, I don't wanna! I just wanna go home, and play with Mommy! Who cares about your stupid full power, JUST LEAVE ME ALONE... AND GO AWAY!" Billy roared, a white aura appearing around him that began to stretch out around him to the same size as his body.

"PERFECT. JUST AS PLANNED." As Blaster said this, the white aura surrounding Billy was coated in an aura of flames that contained the white aura, shrinking its size until it was just barely extending from Billy's body.

"DON'T MISUNDERSTAND, BOY. YOU ARE JUST A TOOL FOR MY OWN CONQUEST! AND NOW THAT I'VE UNLOCKED YOUR TRUE POWER, THERE IS NO NEED FOR YOU TO HAVE YOUR OWN WILL!" Blaster declared, gripping Billy's face harder with his claws, flames pouring from them into Billy's body.

"Hey! What are you doing to him?! Stop it!" Leo demanded, running towards Billy and putting his hand on his shoulder to try and grab him away from Blaster. "Ow!" Leo recoiled, pulling his hand off Billy's shoulder to look at it. The center of his palm was now bright red.

"Why is he so hot?" Leo questioned.

"BECAUSE, YOU FOOL! THIS BOY IS NOW BECOMING THE VESSEL FOR THE DRAGON RULER OF FLAMES- ME!"

"I won't let you do that!" Leo declared, reaching for Billy again, but this time being flung all the way back to Luna by the white-hot aura that surrounded Billy, combined with the winds that were once again raging.

"Aaaaaaaaaaah!" Billy screamed as tears fell from his eyes.

"AND... IT'S DONE." With this declaration by Blaster, Billy fell silent, and his red eyes became brighter, while his aura dissipated and the wind blowing through the room petered out.

"NOW THEN. IT'S MY TURN! I DRAW!" Blaster declared, as Billy silently drew a card from his deck.

"Urgh... what do we do?" Leo questioned.

If we defeat him in this duel, that should weaken Blaster enough to allow me to defeat him and restrain him in the Spirit World. If we do that, since Leo freed him from the Spirit World, Billy should be safe from Blaster after that. Ancient Fairy Dragon answered.

"I ACTIVATE MONSTER REBORN!" Blaster interrupted. "WITH THIS, I REVIVE MYSELF TO THE FIELD!" On cue, Blaster flew from behind Billy to in front of him on the field.

"Oh yeah."

"NEXT, I RELEASE KEEPER OF THE SHRINE, AND DUE TO ITS SPECIAL ABILITY, IT COUNTS AS TWO SACRIFICES FOR ME TO SUMMON MYSELF!" Blaster once again flew onto the field in front of Billy. "I END MY TURN WITH ONE CARD FACEDOWN."

"Then it's my turn!" And hopefully, with it I'll be able to make a big play. "I draw!"

"Next, I'll switch Ancient Fairy Dragon to attack mode."

Rawwwwwr! Ancient Fairy Dragon gave a fierce roar as she removed herself from her defensive position.

"Now, Ancient Fairy Dragon! Attack Blaster with Eternal Sunshine!" Ancient Fairy Dragon complied, her eyes glowing gold as her wings began shining in the colors of the rainbow, releasing a brilliant light that blinded everyone.

"AAAAAAAAGH, NOOOO!" Blaster's voice rang through the room. Zero Lp(3000-900) Ancient Fairy Dragon atk(4200-1050) The light from Ancient Fairy Dragon's attack began to fade.

"No way!" Luna exclaimed as she saw Blaster was still on Billy's field, although she noticed that Tyrant Dragon was gone.

"HAHAHAHAHA! THAT WAS PRICELESS! THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE WHEN YOU REALIZED YOU FAILED IN DESTROYING ME."

"But how?" Luna asked deflatedly.

"IT WAS SIMPLE. I ACTIVATED MY CALL OF THE EARTHBOUND TRAP, ALLOWING ME TO REDIRECT YOUR ATTACK TO MY TYRANT DRAGON."

"No! You were so close, Luna!"

"MAYBE, BUT CLOSE ONLY COUNTS IN HORSESHOES AND WORLD DESTRUCTION. NOT DUEL MONSTERS. NOW END YOUR TURN, SIGNER GIRL."

"Grr... I end my turn."

Graaagh! Power Tool Dragon roared in Leo's head.

"Power Tool Dragon! You want me to try calling out to him?" Leo whispered. "But why?"

Gragh, gragh?

"I guess you're right, it couldn't hurt right now, huh?"

"Leo? Who are you talking to?" Luna questioned.

"Alright, let's do this." Leo slapped his cheeks with his hands a couple times, took a deep breath, and cupped his hands around his mouth. As he did this, Leo's body began to be surrounded in a green aura that was the same color of his hair. In the air above the top of Leo's head, Luna could've sworn she saw the visage of a green lion, roaring proudly.

"HEY, BILLY! COME ON AND GET YOUR BODY BACK, WOULD YOU? YOU CAN DO IT!" Leo shouted at the top of his lungs, causing Luna to cover her ears.

"HAH, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? THERE'S NO WAY FOR THE BOY TO ESCAPE MY CONTROL, EVEN WITH HIS POWER. NOW THEN, IT'S MY TURN. I-"

"I draw." Billy spoke quietly, without any emotion or inflection as he drew the top card from his deck.

"WHAT?! HOW?! YOU COULDN'T POSSIBLY-"

"You don't need to worry, Blaster." Billy spoke with next to no emotion in his voice. Merely a hint of weariness was all that was left of the formerly whole boy.

"I won't betray you. I will win this duel, and then maybe, since you have what you want, I'll finally get you all to leave me alone."

"No, don't do it! Help us! If we defeat Blaster, we can free you from his control, and then, after we beat the Great Evil, we can help you find your mom again!" Leo tried to convince Billy, the green aura from before still surrounding him.

"Hmph. I activate Silver's Cry. This card allows me to revive any dragon in my graveyard, so long as it doesn't have any special abilities. So welcome back Luster Dragon number two."

"WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING?" Blaster questioned curiously, having assumed a resting position in front of Billy.

"I summon the tuner monster- Rider of the Storm Winds."

Rider of the Storm Winds atk(500-400) "A tuner monster? This could be bad." Leo fretted.

"Now I tune my level one Rider of the Storm Winds with my level six Luster Dragon number two." As he raised his right arm to the sky for the summoning chant, Billy's right arm began glowing due to the golden mark of a pair of wide wings on his arm, each wing split into three equal parts and covered in sparkling shards.

"AH, I SEE. YOU'RE FINALLY EMBRACING YOUR POWER. PERFECT! SHOW THESE FOOLS HOW TO TRULY USE SIGNER POWER!"

"He's a Signer, too? He really is a lot like you!" Leo commented.

"Aagh!" Luna groaned as her mark began glowing in response to Billy's mark. "It burns... but not too bad. I wonder why."

"From the depths of sadness, my friend comes to free me from my troubles. I synchro summon- my daddy's soul, Freedom Dragon."

Freedom Dragon was a green dragon the same size as Stardust Dragon, and built much the same way, except it didn't have nearly as long a snout, and instead had two pairs of wings. The skin of the inside of each pair of wings was white, and the scales on the outside of the wings were red. Its eyes were green, and its chest plates were white. Its two pairs of wings flapped constantly at a breakneck pace, keeping Freedom Dragon in the sky.

"FREEDOM DRAGON. SUCH AN IRONIC NAME, SEEING HOW, AS OF NOW, I'VE USURPED YOUR FREEDOM WITH MY POWER." Blaster remarked with a laugh.

"Freedom Dragon's special ability activates." Billy declared, his voice not even suggesting that he was the slightest bit upset at what Blaster said.

"When Freedom Dragon is successfully summoned, all equip cards on the field are destroyed, meaning your Megamorph goes bye-bye. Liberating Howl." Freedom Dragon let out a ferocious roar, matching the loudest roar that Blaster had given, causing waves of wind to rush through the battlefield, slicing through Megamorph. Ancient Fairy Dragon atk(1050-2100)

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? YOU JUST MADE HER MONSTER STRONGER."

"It's all part of my plan." Billy replied simply. "Due to Freedom Dragon's special ability, it doesn't lose any attack points from Burden of the Mighty."

"Aw man! That means it's still strong enough to take out Ancient Fairy Dragon!"

"You're right. But I won't need Freedom Dragon's attack points for that."

"Huh?!" Both of the twins exclaimed in unison.

"I activate Freedom Dragon's special ability. Now, I can choose any monster on the field and destroy it. Then, the owner of that monster takes damage equal to half its attack points."

"NOOOOOOOO!" Leo and Luna cried out.

"PERFECT! EXCELLENT JOB, SUBJECT ZERO! NOW DESTROY ANCIENT FAIRY DRAGON, AND END THIS DUEL!"

Billy stared at Blaster. "My name... is BILLY!" With this shout, Billy's eyes returned to the normal red they had been previously, and his white aura once again built up around him, swelling until it completely surrounded him, eclipsing him. Once again, Blaster's aura of flames surrounded Billy's white aura, attempting to control it, but the white aura kept pushing through holes in the flame aura, growing and growing until it began to hit Freedom Dragon and Blaster in front of Billy, and came close to the ceiling above him.

"NOOOOOOO! HOW COULD THIS BE?! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE- NO, IT COULDN'T BE! THAT BOY!" Blaster glared murderously at Leo.

"Heheh." Leo smirked as his green aura extended and began touching Billy's white aura. "And you said he couldn't escape your 'power'. Hah! It looks like he just did!"

"NO, I'M STILL IN CONTROL HERE! I-"

"I activate Freedom Dragon's special ability!" Billy interrupted as a pink sphere began growing and growing in Freedom Dragon's mouth. "Now, by destroying Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos, I can inflict one thousand, four hundred points of damage to myself!" Billy declared.

"YOU WOULDN'T!"

"I am! This is what you get, you meanie! Go, Freedom Breath!" Rearing its head back, Freedom Dragon launched the pink sphere that had built up in its mouth to be the size of an inflated beach ball. The sphere shot towards Blaster, destroying him.

"THIS ISN'T OVER YET." Blaster spoke calmly as the last pieces of his hologram began to shatter. "I'M STILL IN THE SPIRIT WORLD, AND ONE DAY, I WILL TAKE MY REVENGE UPON ALL OF YOU. SUBJECT ZERO, ANCIENT FAIRY DRAGON, AND MOST OF ALL- YOU, LITTLE BOY! I'LL GET YOU SOBEEEEEEEE" Blaster's threat was interrupted as he faded away. As Blaster was destroyed, the explosion hit Billy, knocking him down on the ground as his and Leo's aura faded completely. Billy Lp(900-0) As the holograms faded away, the arrow that had been lodged in Billy's arm the whole time finally disappeared.

"Is... he gone?" Luna questioned.

"He is! You won, Luna! You were awesome!" Leo cheered, jumping in the air with excitement, causing Luna to chuckle.

"Yeah, well... Thanks, Leo."

"But how's Billy doing? Billy! Are you okay?!" Leo hollered as he ran towards where Billy was still on the ground.

Good job, Luna. Ancient Fairy Dragon praised. Both you and your brother. You not only defeated Blaster, but you also saved Billy and came one step closer to saving the world from the Great Evil. Plus, since this wasn't a shadow duel created by the Great Evil, you don't have to worry about what may happen to Billy now. Although, it appears he was injured by his own power at the end.

"How are you doing?" Leo questioned as he offered his hand to Billy, pulling him up with one arm when he accepted. Man, he's light. Was Blaster even feeding him? Leo pondered worriedly.

"I'm doing fine... actually, I'm a bit tired. I'm gonna take a nap."

"Wait-"

"Hey, Billy." Luna interrupted her brother. "I know you're still scared of duel spirits and all. But... if you'd let me, I'd like to tell you some stories about my spirit friends when you wake up. They're pretty funny. Maybe, after you hear them, you won't be so scared anymore. They're not all bad, after all." Luna offered.

"Funny stories, huh?" Billy questioned. Just like Daddy always told me.

"Yep." Luna answered with a smile and nod as her brother watched on with a grin on his face.

"Okay. I'd love it if you told me stories. Thank you." Billy turned to Leo. "And thank you... Leo."

"Hey, are you okay?!" Leo exclaimed in fright as Billy fell on his right shoulder, in between him and Luna.

*Snoooooooore*

"He told you he was going to take a nap, didn't he? Of course he's tired, after all he went through. You're such a worrywart of a brother, Leo."

"I'm not his big brother. And you're not getting away that easily, either!" Leo grabbed Luna by her left shoulder, causing her to squeal in pain.

"Aaaaaaaah! That hurt, Leo!"

"Yeah, I'm sure it did. I was worried sick about you, Luna. I'm still worried about you. You're still frail, you know? The doctors say you still haven't fully recovered from that coma." Leo spoke sadly. "So it worries me to think about you dueling in shadow duels or duels against people and monsters with scary powers that make the damage real! That's why I wanted to duel for you, Luna. That's why I took your place against that Dark Signer, too."

"Leo..."

Leo grabbed Billy, holding him up to make sure he didn't slip from the twins' shoulders and fall to the ground.

"Do you remember when I told you I didn't want to go to Satellite with you? That I'd just be a useless cheerleader if I came?" Leo asked.

"Yeah. And I told you, even if you look like a dork, you're still my hero. That's why I needed you to come, and that's why I needed you to come today. I could never have won and saved Billy without you today." Luna told Leo earnestly, smiling as a tear welled up in each of her eyes.

"I'm glad you came with me, Leo. Both today, and back then as well."

Leo scratched his head sheepishly, blushing just a tad. "Thanks, Luna. But what I was going to say was: I also felt like, that if I went, I might get in the way. I knew I couldn't stand to see you duel a Dark Signer right in front of me, not being able to do anything to stop it, or to help you. I knew that I'd try to stop it, and that maybe I'd stop you from saving the world." Leo spoke somberly.

"That's why, in a way, I was glad when I saw that you went to the Spirit World. It meant that I could duel the Dark Signer and protect you, but I wouldn't be stopping you from doing your part! It was great! Until I needed you to come and save my sorry butt." Leo looked down at the floor disappointedly.

"Hey!" Luna snapped, causing Leo's eyes to widen in surprise. "You did great, Leo. Yusei said it himself. I didn't save you; I helped your sorry butt." Luna mimicked Leo's choice of words, causing both of the kids to giggle.

"Well, either way, thanks a lot, Luna." Leo spoke cheerfully.

"And thank you, for always being a great brother." Luna spoke, reaching her arms around Leo, giving him a big hug.

"Heheh, just doing my job. But seriously, don't make me drop Billy." Leo spoke nervously, leading Luna to let go of Leo, allowing him to resume holding Billy up.

"Hey, Leo?"

"Yeah, Luna?"

Luna grabbed her left arm with her right and flexed. "I'm getting better every day, and don't you forget it! I told you, didn't I? We'll protect each other from now on!" Luna declared with a shining smile on her face.

Leo gaped at his sister, complete shock displayed on his face, before bursting into laughter. "Hahaha! Luna, haha, did you just..." Leo took a deep breath to gather himself. "Flex?" And he lost himself. "Hahahaha! Aw man, that was even greater than when Crow tries to flex, hahahaha!"

"Heh. Hahaha!" Luna joined in on the laughter, and so, the sound of children laughing happily reverberated throughout the room.

"But, Leo. How did your voice reach Billy when Blaster took him over? A-and that lion..." Luna asked with a confused look on her face.

"Lion? I'd like to know myself. Power Tool Dragon said something about me being a key to something, but I really didn't get it. And what was Blaster talking about when he called me Sobe-something?" Leo replied, his confused face mirroring his twin sister's.

I can help answer those questions. Ancient Fairy Dragon spoke, appearing in physical form before the twins.

"Ancient Fairy Dragon! You can help us?" Luna questioned.

Yes. It would be easiest to start at the beginning. Luna. When you were three years old, you visited the Duel Monsters Spirit World. And while you did, your body was in a coma on Earth. How was it that you finally awakened?

"How? I mean... before, I always thought I heard Leo's voice calling out for me, and that was how I returned from the Spirit World. But then, at the Fortune Cup, I learned that really, it'd been me calling out for Leo, because I was too scared to protect the Spirit World. So I guess, it was because me and Leo called out to each other, and he was able to pull me out from the Spirit World." Luna gave her explanation for what happened.

Yes. And why is it, exactly, that you think Leo was able to reach you with his voice, when your parents, the doctors, and everyone else who tried couldn't?

"Because... because Leo is the person closest to me?" Luna answered unsurely.

Exactly. However, something that I didn't realize back then, is that when Leo called out to you and woke you up, he tapped into a power that once belonged to a powerful duel spirit named Sobek.

"Sobek? Is that what Blaster was trying to call me?" Leo questioned.

Yes. Sobek was the name of a wise and powerful duel spirit who used his wisdom to help guide lost souls to their correct place of departure. Since then, Sobek has come to refer to anyone who guides lost souls.

"So, how am I a... Sobek?" Leo asked, puzzled.

Leo. It was your bond with your sister that allowed your voice to reach her in the Spirit World. But how do you think your voice reached Billy, a boy you didn't even know? Or, to put it differently, how did you even get to the Spirit World in the first place?

"I heard that the Spirit World was in trouble, so I came." Luna answered.

Yes. What you heard were the cries of the Spirit World itself in response to the danger Blaster's power-hungry plans posed to the peace of the Spirit World.

"So, what's going to happen with Blaster, now?" Luna questioned.

"Yeah, is he going to Spirit Jail or something?"

That's one way of putting it, yes. There is no need to worry, I have already taken care of apprehending Blaster and stripping him of his power and land personally. That is why I left you so soon after the duel concluded. Such is the duty of the ruler of the Duel Monsters Spirit World.

"So, what were you saying before about how we got to the Spirit World?" Leo asked curiously.

Right. Luna responded to the danger threatening the Spirit World, but you, Leo, are different. What called you to the Spirit World were the pleas of a boy in danger, were they not?

"Now that I think about it, the last thing I heard before me and Luna got zapped to the Spirit World, was Billy's voice crying, and it sounded awful, like he was really de-stressed."

"I think you mean 'distressed'." Luna corrected.

"Right, that."

Allow me to conclude this explanation. So, as we've deduced, Leo has the ability to hear the voices of those who have found themselves lost or trapped in the Spirit World.

"Lost?" The twins echoed.

Yes. Very few in this world possess the ability to hear duel spirits. Fewer can travel to the Spirit World. Fewer still have the ability to travel freely between worlds. Those who travel to the Spirit World often wind up trapped, unable to return to the Human World. We call these people: "lost". Ancient Fairy Dragon explained.

And this, is what makes Leo so very special. Leo, although you can't travel to the Spirit World on your own, it appears that you have the power to guide the lost back to the human world. And this, is why we call you a Sobek, or a guider of lost souls.

"A guider of lost souls... that's pretty awesome! Though I'm not so sure about the whole 'Sobek' thing. I'd rather just be called Leo. So basically, I'm a superhero, but just for people who get trapped in the Spirit World." Leo concluded cheerfully, grinning at Ancient Fairy Dragon and Luna, and readjusting his arms so he could continue holding Billy.

"Come on, Leo, take this a little more seriously, would you?" Luna sighed. "Well, look on the bright side, this means you can be my hero, even in the Spirit World!" Luna declared with a smile.

And now that I've shared some knowledge with you two, I must return to the Spirit World. I look forward to seeing you again soon. I know that you and the others can defeat the Great Evil and save the world. Farewell, Leo... Luna...

"See ya!"

"Bye, Ancient Fairy Dragon!" The twins waved goodbye as Ancient Fairy Dragon disappeared from sight.

"Man! It's not every day you learn that you have superpowers!"

"Although sometimes, it really does feel like it." Luna remarked. "Don't get a big head about it, Leo."

"I won't! I mean, I still have no idea how to actually use these superpowers, not to mention I've only saved two people so far. You've saved the whole world! I've got nothing on you!" Leo stated, still sporting a wide grin across his face.

"Hmph." Luna smiled in response. "Come on, Leo. We need to figure out how we're going to move Billy. After all, we can't just leave him here."

"Yeah... Hey, Luna! He's pretty light. I can probably carry him." Leo declared, handing Billy to Luna, then turning around. Luna helped Leo lift Billy onto Leo's back, who then stood up and walked a couple steps forward while giving Billy a piggyback ride.

"Yeah, I can do thi- nope!" Leo stopped, his legs trembling. "L-Luna? Can you please help?"

Luna smirked. "Yep, saw this coming." Luna walked over to her brother, and together, the two of them got Billy back on the ground, where the twins held him up.

"I guess we'll have to carry him the same way we carried Yusei back when we first met him." Leo declared. Luna giggled, recalling how Leo had been so eager to try and help Yusei get his memory back. But then she thought about how they carried him upstairs to their living room in their penthouse and she let out a groan. That had been so hard on her back before, not to mention, even though it was only for a couple minutes, it had gotten her all sweaty, too.

"Come on, Luna! It won't be that bad. Billy's not nearly as heavy as Yusei. He's not even as heavy as us." Leo reminded his twin, his grin seemingly now permanently attached to his face.

Luna smiled as she grabbed the boy's legs while Leo grabbed his mid-section. "Fine, but after saying that, I don't want to hear you complaining."

"I won't say a word- haha!"

"Hehe." And with a chuckle the twins began making their way for the exit, carrying Billy in their arms.
