Hey A/all. This is Chapter twenty-seven of the new and improved The Black Heir: The Saga Begins. It was originally just a rewrite of my The Black Heir: First Year, but it has deviated so much from how that one used to be that it's now a new story all on its own, though the basic premise is the same. This story is once more complete! And is a whopping 48 chapters long, lots was added haha. Updates should be weekly unless something drastic happens.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, Evelyn Celeste Black is my own original character, but all other recognisable characters belong to J K Rowling, I just like to use them to do my bidding.
Summary: What happens when the mistreated daughter of Sirius Black is eligible for her first year at Hogwarts at the same time as her father's escape from Azkaban and she is reunited with Harry Potter. The summer before Harry's third year might just turn out to be just as much of an adventure as his years at Hogwarts. (Eventual HarryXGinny, NevilleXOC, and RonXLuna)
Warning: This story does contain spanking, but it is not the focus, still if you don't like it don't read it.
A huge, huge thank you to my amazing Beta who has been an amazing support in writing this. Yes, I am trying my hardest to turn her into a Harry Potter Fan. Without her support and guidance, you probably wouldn't be getting this story for a good few years.

The odd, ragtag, bunch of misfit's family spent the day settling into their new home, for Remus and Sirius it was a little like coming home. They first led the kids on a tour of the Manor, so that they would be able to find their way around, Evie was very drawn to the library but she let Harry playfully drag her away. They didn't explore all of the Manor, Sirius and Remus decided together that the kids should do some exploring of their own, just as they had done when they were young.
They took them out to look over the grounds, Sirius was relieved to see they were in good upkeep and made a mental note to summon the Potter Elves to him when he went to establish a connection with the wards. As Harry's legal and magical guardian, as well as his adoptive father, the wards should recognise him and allow him at least some control over them, that he was also related to James should help.
Outside Harry was the first to spot the quidditch pitch and immediately took off running for it, needing to check it out, pulling Evie along with him.
Sirius and Remus chuckled and followed the kids at a more leisurely pace.
Harry looked around the pitch in awe, it was amazing, it was smaller than Hogwarts' pitch, but perfect for practicing and just flying around in. He glanced at his little sister, "I'm going to teach you how to fly," he declared.
Evie looked around the area, putting together the descriptions Harry and Ginny had given her of a quidditch pitch to identify the place as such. She was still sceptical of being able to fly on a broomstick, but considering all she had seen so far, she was willing to accept that it was real.
Sirius and Remus entered the pitch at that time, "not alone you aren't," Sirius stated firmly.
Remus nodded in agreement with his friend, "we know you are an accomplished flier Harry, to be on the quidditch team you must be, so you can fly without our supervision," he granted.
"Princess, you've never flown before, well that's not entirely true, James and I took you and Harry on our brooms around the house and garden in Godric's Hollow when you were tiny, but you've never had solo control of a broom," Sirius explained.
"You would have had a toddler broom for your first birthday present like Harry did if things had gone as they should have," Remus put in.
"I had a broom at one?" Harry asked amazed.
"Yes, Lily nearly hexed my bits off for giving you that broom, but you adored it," Sirius reminisced smiling softly at the memory. He pulled himself back to the present and looked at his kids, "so whilst you can teach Evie how to fly Harry, it can only be with our supervision and once you've learned how to fly you will have to pass our assessment before you can fly unsupervised Evie," he explained.
"The assessment is almost identical to the one you will have at school anyway, it's just about making sure you can safely control your broom," Remus assured.
Harry frowned, "I didn't have an assessment, just the one lesson," he pointed out.
Remus nodded, "you were put on the quidditch team directly after your first lesson, correct?"
"Yeah," Harry agreed.
"That was all that was needed for you to pass those lessons then, the flying lessons last as long as necessary for each student to be able to pass the assessment. Your fellow year mates would have had a few more lessons afterwards as they need to pass to be allowed to play on the teams. Some would have also passed after that lesson once your teacher returned," Remus explained.
"Those who'd flown before at home likely would have passed the assessment in that lesson, others would only need one or two more. In general only those who were muggleborn or raised would need more two or so lessons. The flying tutor should also offer more individual lessons for those who are struggling or who want more advanced tutoring," Sirius added.
"Huh, I didn't know that. Ron didn't seem to have any additional lessons afterwards," Harry murmured mostly to himself.
"Ron likely wouldn't have needed them, with the twins and one of his older brothers having been on the quidditch team he was likely flying their brooms from a young age," Remus pointed out.
Harry had to concede that point and inched towards the broom shed; he was pretty sure it wouldn't be like riding his Nimbus, he doubted the broom shed had similar brooms, but it wouldn't be fair to Evie if he had the superior broom.
Evie saw where her brother was moving towards and frowned in confusion, not understanding that the shed likely contained brooms.
Sirius laughed, "there will be time for flying later, for now let's go back to the Manor and you can pick your bedrooms," he stated.
Harry grumbled good naturedly and let Evie drag him away and up the path back to the Manor.
Sirius and Remus let the kids pick their bedrooms first, and both had to hide their emotions when Harry picked James' old room and Evie picked Sirius'.
Sirius took a moment to make sure his emotions where in check and he wasn't about to start blubbering over the kids before he cleared his throat. "You know kids, we can decorate your rooms however you want, if you'd like," he offered once they had picked the rooms they wanted.
Remus smiled at Evie, knowing going into the old room exactly how it was would be hard for Sirius, he placed his hands on her shoulders and gently guided her to her room. "Come on Cub, let's see what you like and what you want to change," he told her gently.
Evie went with her Godfather and decided she wanted a much lighter room, the more light the better.
Sirius took Harry back to his new room, ignoring the stab of pain that came from the memories, but it was better than being in his old room and there were good memories associated with this bedroom as well.
Harry looked around the strongly Gryffindor coloured room, his new room. He took in the exposed dark wooden floors with the red and gold rug, the cream coloured walls, the thick dark red curtains, and the dark wooden furniture. "I think it's perfect like this," he admitted.
Sirius nodded and squeezed his adoptive son's shoulder. "If you're sure Harry," he agreed. "You know this used to be James' room when he lived here."
Harry couldn't help the grin that spread over his cheeks, "really?" He asked in awe.
Sirius smiled, "yes really. Come here and I'll show you something," he offered. He led across the room to where a Gryffindor scarf was hanging up. "Tap the wall with your wand and say 'I, son of Prongs, do solemnly swear I am up to no good,' it'll tune it to your magic and then next time you can leave out the son of Prongs bit," he instructed.
Harry summoned his wand from his holster and tapped the wall, following Sirius' instructions. He blinked in surprise when the wall shimmered.
"Step through," Sirius urged.
Looking at his adoptive father warily, Harry stepped through and stopped dead.
Sirius followed Harry through and smiled. "James and I made this when we were sixteen, to connect our rooms. Remus helped with a lot of the Arithmancy, and you wouldn't believe the Runes we needed to get it done," he explained. He grinned at his daughter and Remus.
Remus chuckled. "You can go into Harry's room as well Evie⦠all you need to do is go up to where the Gryffindor scarf is, tap the wall with your wand and say 'I, daughter of Padfoot, do solemnly swear I am up to no good' after you've done it once you'll be able to drop the daughter of Padfoot bit. To close the connection one of you just needs to say, 'mischief managed,' though I should point out that once the wall starts shimmering, you'll be able to hear each other through the wall, so can check with each other that it's ok to come through," he explained. The last bit hadn't really been necessary for Sirius and James, as they were both the same age, both boys, and shared a dorm at Hogwarts, but Evie was a girl, so he thought he better point that one out to them.
Sirius looked around the room and while he felt relieved it barely resembled the bedroom he'd come to know; it was a little sad seeing how desperate his daughter was to have it so light and bright. The white and silver room with lilac and purple accents was gorgeous and Remus had definitely done a good job, it was open and light but didn't look too cold. "Looks great Princess. Now Remus and I both know you're not supposed to do magic outside of school, however Potter Manor is very well warded, so if you want to redecorate at any point, feel free, however you must have one of us present, understood?"
Harry and Evie shared a look before nodding their agreement.
Sirius smiled indulgently, "going to need a verbal agreement on this one."
"Okay Daddy, no spell casting without you or Uncle Moony present," Evie answered.
"Understood Dad, we won't redecorate or cast any spells without you or Uncle Moony," Harry agreed.
"Excellent. Now Evie, we know you like your light balls and we're happy for you to keep using them, but any other magic we would much rather you didn't use without one of us present just in case," Sirius stated. "You both have unique circumstances, Harry your core needs to be used or you'll have bouts of extremely strong accidental magic, which isn't what we want, this will get worse once the block on your magic has been lifted. Evie you will also need to use your magic regularly or it'll build up in you though we aren't sure what will happen you'll probably have similar bouts of accidental magic. So, I know it's still the summer holidays and you want to have fun, but we're going to teach you some bits, most of this will be stuff any Pureblood or even Halfblood child would learn growing up in a magical household. You'll still have plenty of time for fun, but you will both be Heads of some pretty important Houses when you reach your majority and there is a lot of information you need to know about that."
Remus nodded, "we'll teach you extra spells that aren't taught in schools as well as fun spells which can be used for games and such."
Sirius beamed, "but first, it's time to unpack," he grinned. "And we just happen to know a few handy spells to help with that," he winked.
Remus put a hand on Harry's shoulder, "come on I'll show you the spells," he urged.
Evie concentrated hard on her Daddy's colours, making sure there was nothing in there she needed to worry about as Harry left.
"Don't worry Princess, we'll leave it open," Sirius offered. It pained him to know that his daughter was frightened to be alone with him, but he hoped that eventually she'd come to trust him the way she did her brother. "Now, I could teach you the exact spells to do what you want, but as none of these will be on any exams why don't you just use your magic as you would to put your things away," he invited.
Evie smiled a little at that and placed her hand on her trunk pushing a little bit of her magic into it to will it to open. She glanced around the room and waved her hand in the direction of the wardrobe to flick it open and sent her clothes to the wardrobe frowning slightly as they went in the direction that she wanted but just crumpled on the floor.
Sirius watched and refrained from saying anything waiting to see if Evie would figure it out or ask for his guidance.
Evie wasn't used to putting clothes away, she'd only ever worn the one thing at Sir's and had kept her new clothes in her trunk whilst at The Leaky Cauldron. Still, she was sure she could figure this out, she pushed a little harder on her magic trying to guide it to doing what she wanted manipulating the hangers and getting the clothes hung up. She managed to get three of her robes hung before she dropped her hand feeling the pull from the extended use of her raw magic.
Sirius was impressed with Evie's solution, though he shivered at the feel of the barely constrained raw magic. "We'll work on how much of your magic you channel and how to guide your magic rather than forcing it," he told her, "I'm sure the library here has some good books on wandless magic we can look at. For now, how about I show you a spell?"
Evie bit her lip and nodded, "yes please."
Sirius withdrew his wand and urged Evie to do the same, he then demonstrated the simple spell used to hang up clothes. His parents hadn't shown him it, Kreacher had been expected to do everything, the Potters, on the other hand, had expected James and later him to keep on top of their own rooms, so they'd shown him.
Evie followed the instructions and picked up the spell easily enough, quickly getting her clothes hung up and put away neatly. She then returned her wand to its holster and guided her books to the empty bookshelves rapidly filling them with the books she'd already accumulated.
Sirius assisted his daughter putting her things away giving suggestions for where they should go and showing her specific spells for when she couldn't work out a solution just by willing her magic to make it work. Once the trunk was empty, he felt a wave of sadness for the lack of possessions his daughter had, he knew it was his fault she had so little, and he resolved to change that. He was well aware he couldn't buy her love and that material items weren't a substitute for love, but he didn't want her to want for anything. "Now I have no doubt that by the time you leave for Hogwarts you'll have far too much stuff to fit into a trunk so, your room does need to stay tidy. You won't need to dust, hoover, or polish in here, but your clothes will need to be hung up or in the laundry basket and your books and other belongings need to stay off the floor. Does that make sense?"
Evie nodded in acceptance of that, "yes Sir," she agreed quickly ducking her head.
Sirius moved over to Evie and then, moving slowly so she could watch his movements, he reached out to her and tenderly tilted her chin up to look at him, "Daddy or Dad remember Princess, never Sir," he told her gently but firmly. Pulling her into his arms once he saw her nod of understanding, holding her close.
Evie closed her eyes and concentrated on what she could feel as she felt her Daddy's arms around her, feeling his magic wrap protectively around her. There was more to it than protection though, something she was struggling to place, 'love,' whispered in her mind, again in the voice of Lily Potter. Love, it was still so foreign to her and didn't make sense, but part of her was beginning to accept that yes, maybe she was loved. She let herself relax more in her father's arms seeking and accepting the comfort they offered, soaking up the feel of his magic, almost unwilling to part from the feelings it provided.
