Title: Slippery as a Snake
Opening up within the Duel Monsters Spirit World, Emily was continuing her journey to avoid capture by the Court of Darkness. She had just left The Sanctuary in the Sky after her victory over Darklord Zerato, and with Kuribon staying behind to help Guardian Eatos watch over the still wounded Wingweaver, Emily was now on her own for the first time since she escaped from the Castle of Dark Illusions, and she would have to rely on her own skills to survive. The journey took her to an unknown part of the world, and it resulted in her getting into a confrontation with the so-called 'ruler' of the territory; a Reptile monster known as Serpentine Princess.
"How dare you step into my land!" hissed Serpentine Princess, "I never tolerate intruders! Any and all intruders must be eliminated!"
"She won't stop me!" thought Emily, "I will find Thomas and my friends!" She spoke aloud, "So, you really think you can stop me?"
"What?!"
"I've defeated three wild Battleguard monsters in a single turn!" The dark green-haired girl went on, "Someone like you won't be any different! In any case, I have to continue my journey to find my friends!"
"Such confidence you're displaying," sneered Serpentine Princess, as she made an activated Duel Disk appear on her left arm, "Let's see if you have the skill to back up that confidence!"
"I shall!" accepted Emily, activating her Duel Disk, "Now, come on!"
And the duel finally began…
"I'll go first!" offered Emily (LP: 4000), drawing a card, "Draw!"
Serpentine Princess (LP: 4000) simply waited to see what would happen.
Turn One: Emily Stirling (LP: 4000)
Deck: 54
Current Hand (6): "Shining Angel", "Miraculous Descent", "Wingweaver", "Cards from the Sky", "Soul of Purity and Light", and "Solar Ray"
Her drawn card was the 'Solar Ray' Trap Card, adding it into her hand—which contained 'Shining Angel', 'Miraculous Descent', 'Wingweaver', 'Cards from the Sky', and 'Soul of Purity and Light'.
"Good," thought Emily, before taking and holding a card ('Cards from the Sky') out, "From my hand, I'll activate 'Cards from the Sky'!" While explaining the effect, one card ('Wingweaver') dissolved into particles of light and she drew two more cards, "I must banish 1 LIGHT Fairy monster in my hand, and if I do, draw 2 cards."
"Just don't forget that you can't Special Summon monsters or conduct your Battle Phase this turn when you activate that card!" reminded Serpentine Princess.
"I'm aware of that," retorted Emily, "However, in case you've forgotten, I can't even attack on the first turn, anyway."
Serpentine Princess snorted, acknowledging that as a fair point.
"Next," continued Emily, taking a card ('Shining Angel') from her hand and placing it onto a Monster Zone on her Duel Disk, "I'll Summon 'Shining Angel' in Defense Position!"
Appearing on the field was a human male with short blonde hair, wearing white clothing, and sporting two large yellow wings on his back (Level: 4/ATK: 1400/DEF: 800).
"And to finish," As she said that, Emily slotted two cards into her Duel Disk, "I'll Set two cards face-down!"
Two Set cards materialized on the field near her feet.
"I end my turn!"
"Hmm… Is that all?" teased Serpentine Princess, "Oh well, we all can't get what we want," She drew a card, "It's my turn! Draw!"
Turn Two: Serpentine Princess (LP: 4000)
Deck: 54
Current Hand (6): "Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice", "Ipiria", "Pot of Acquisitiveness", "Viper's Grudge", "Black Mamba", and "Offering to the Snake Deity"
A slimy smile appeared on her face when she saw her drawn 'Offering to the Snake Deity' Trap Card. Serpentine Princess added the card into her hand and took another card from it, holding the card ('Ipiria') up.
"Let's see you defeat my Reptile beauties!" declared Serpentine Princess, placing her card onto her Duel Disk, "Come, 'Ipiria'!"
Appearing onto the field was a small blue lizard with gray hair and mustache (Level: 2/ATK: 500/DEF: 500).
"I activate 'Ipiria's' monster effect!" continued Serpentine Princess, drawing another card, "If this card is Summoned: I must draw 1 card," She saw her drawn card was a Monster Card called 'Yowie', "I can only use this effect of 'Ipiria' once per turn."
"Despite 'Ipiria's' low ATK, she must still have plenty of tricks left," Emily murmured to herself, "I can only wonder what said tricks could even be?"
Unknown to her, one such trick was incoming. Over on Serpentine Princess's side of the field, she looked at a card ('Black Mamba') she took from her hand and spoke out loud.
"I'm going to Summon another monster from my hand," said Serpentine Princess, which got Emily's undivided attention. She held the card ('Black Mamba') out, "It's this one, 'Black Mamba'!"
"But didn't you already Normal Summon this turn?" protested Emily.
"Fool, I'm not 'Normal' Summoning again," Serpentine Princess corrected, "This will be a 'Special' Summon," She placed her card onto her Duel Disk, "Come, 'Black Mamba'!"
Appearing onto the field was a black snake-like monster (Level: 3/ATK: 1300/DEF: 1000).
"If I control a Reptile monster, I can Special Summon this card (from my hand)," explained Serpentine Princess, going over 'Black Mamba's' first effect, "I can only Special Summon 'Black Mamba' once per turn this way."
"I never was a fan of snakes and the likes," groaned Emily.
"However!" cut in Serpentine Princess, "This Summon was needed in order to activate my monster's second effect!" She drew a card and sent it ('Night Sword Serpent') to the GY, "Go, 'Black Mamba'!"
'Black Mamba' obeyed, lunging forward and biting into 'Shining Angel', causing him to yell in pain before shifting into a battle ready position (DEF: 800 → ATK: 1400).
"If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: I can target 1 monster my opponent controls; I must send 1 Reptile monster from your Deck to the GY, and if I do, change the targeted monster's battle position," continued Serpentine Princess, "I can only use this effect of 'Black Mamba' once per turn."
"Ngh…" Emily grunted unhappily.
"And from there I'll also activate the effect of the 'Night Sword Serpent' in my GY," declared Serpentine Princess, as a card ('Night Sword Serpent') ejected from her GY. She took hold and held it out, "If this card is sent to the GY by a card effect: I can Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field."
Appearing onto the field was a more vicious-looking black snake monster (Level: 4/ATK: 500/DEF: 600).
"I can only use this effect of 'Night Sword Serpent' once per turn," The voice of Serpentine Princess went on as the above scenario played out. She then took and placed a new card ('Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice') onto her Duel Disk, "Next, I'll Tribute my 'Night Sword Serpent' and Special Summon 'Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice' in its place!"
'Night Sword Serpent' faded away in a blue streak, and appearing on the field in its place was a bigger, meaner, purple-colored snake monster (Level: 5/ATK: 2000/DEF: 500).
"Another Special Summon," worried Emily.
"I can Tribute 1 Reptile monster; I must Special Summon this card from my hand," explained Serpentine Princess, going over her monster's second effect, "And, since it left the field, 'Night Sword Serpent' has been banished."
All of a sudden, 'Shining Angel's' stats went down (ATK: 1400 → 1100/DEF: 800 → 500).
"What?! My 'Shining Angel's' ATK and DEF both went down?" cried Emily.
"Oops! I guess I forgot to mention 'Urubonus's' first effect," said Serpentine Princess sarcastically, "All monsters my opponent controls lose 300 ATK/DEF. However, that isn't all your monster is going to lose!" A statement like that earned her a gasp from her opponent, but she then thrust the knife in a little deeper by revealing 'Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice's' third effect, "I can Tribute 1 monster; all face-up monsters my opponent currently controls lose ATK/DEF equal to the Tributed monster's original ATK/DEF, until the end of this turn."
"What in the world?" Emily reeled.
"That's right," confirmed Serpentine Princess, just as 'Ipiria' turned into a glowing purple ball of darkness and was absorbed by 'Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice'—who then opened its mouth and unleashed a toxic smog across Emily's whole field, "By Tributing 'Ipiria', your 'Shining Angel' will lose 500 ATK and DEF!"
The smog weakened 'Shining Angel' even further (ATK: 1100 → 600/DEF: 500 → 0).
"Alright, 'Urubonus', it's feeding time!" laughed Serpentine Princess, entering her Battle Phase, "Attack 'Shining Angel'! Venom Strike!"
'Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice' obeyed the command, releasing a powerful venom from its mouth that melted 'Shining Angel' upon impact, causing Emily to groan again she took the first damage of the duel (LP: 4000 → 2600).
"'Shining Angel's' effect activates!" declared Emily, as a card ejected from her Deck and she took hold and readied it, "When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the GY: I can Special Summon 1 LIGHT monster with 1500 or less ATK from my Deck, in face-up Attack Position," She placed the card onto her Duel Disk, "I Special Summon 'Consecrated Light'!"
A small yellow ball of light with a face appeared on the field (Level: 1/ATK: 0/DEF: 0).
"Oh, pfft! 'Consecrated Light'," dismissed Serpentine Princess with a scoff.
"Don't underestimate this monster," warned Emily, "Its first effect will come in quite handy at keeping you from making too many attacks."
"What?"
"Neither player can Normal or Special Summon DARK monsters or declare an attack with a DARK monster," The dark green-haired girl revealed, "A good number of your monsters are of the DARK-Attribute, meaning you'll hardly ever get a chance to attack me, now!"
"Grr… A clever trick," admitted Serpentine Princess begrudgingly, before slotting two cards into her Duel Disk, "I Set two cards and end my turn!"
Two face-down cards materialized on the field.
"'Consecrated Light' brought me a little bit of time," thought Emily, "But only a little, since sooner or later my opponent will find a way to destroy it. When that happens…" She drew a card, "It's my turn!"
Turn Three: Emily Stirling (LP: 2600)
Deck: 50
Current Hand (4): "Soul of Purity and Light", "Pixie Ring", "Pre-Preparation of Rites", and "Pot of Greed"
On cue, the 'Pot of Greed' Spell Card materialized face-up on the field.
"Spell Card, 'Pot of Greed'!" announced Emily, drawing another two cards, "I must draw 2 cards."
"Will they be enough to help you, though?" taunted Serpentine Princess.
Emily's drawn cards were 'Fairy Archer' (Effect Monster) and 'Wall of Disruption' (Normal Trap), the former of which was very useful for what she had in mind.
"Appear now, 'Fairy Archer'!" commanded Emily, placing one of the cards ('Fairy Archer') onto her Duel Disk.
Appearing onto the field was a humanoid, female fairy with yellow/crimson red wings, grass skirt, and a top that showed breast cleavage in the center (Level: 3/ATK: 1400/DEF: 600).
"Bah! Don't forget about my 'Urubonus's' effect!" reminded Serpentine Princess, "Your monsters lose 300 ATK and DEF."
'Fairy Archer' found herself landing on the ground in a weakened state (ATK: 1400 → 1100/DEF: 600 → 300). Despite her monster weakening, Emily already had a plan to deal with her opponent.
"If I Summon two more LIGHT monsters, I'll have four in total," thought Emily, looking at her hand for a moment before looking at what's on her field, "'Fairy Archer's' effect will deal 400 damage for each one, total at 1600, and if I activate my Set 'Solar Ray', I can deal 600 damage for each of my LIGHT monsters, meaning 2400 damage. I'll win."
Of course, it can never be that easy…
"Continuous Trap, open!" announced Serpentine Princess, as her first Set card flipped face-up and revealed itself, "'Viper's Grudge'! Non-Reptile monsters I control cannot attack or activate their effects."
"Huh?" wondered Emily.
"That's not all I'll do," Serpentine Princess continued, as her second Set card flipped face-up and revealed itself, "I activate a Trap, 'Offering to the Snake Deity'!"
"What?!" panicked Emily.
"How worried you are," cackled Serpentine Princess, "I must target 1 face-up Reptile monster I control and 2 cards my opponent controls; I must destroy all three targets."
A poisonous substance started forming in the center of the field, enlarging until it covered everything. The first to dissolve was 'Black Mamba', and the remaining two were both 'Fairy Archer' and 'Consecrated Light'.
"No!" yelled Emily.
"I knew you had a plan involving your 'Fairy Archer'," teased Serpentine Princess, "I never would let you accomplish such a busted plan," She held her right hand out, "Now, I'll use this opportunity to activate the second effect of 'Viper's Grudge'!" While speaking still, a card emerged from the middle of her Deck, which she took hold of, "If a face-up Reptile monster(s) I control is destroyed…" The snake-like princess monster readied the card before holding it ('Lamia') out, "…by battle or sent to the GY: I can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Reptile monster from my Deck."
"Isn't that 'Lamia'?" remembered Emily.
"You know of this monster?" pressed Serpentine Princess. When Emily nodded in confirmation, she went on, "Well, I'll let you know of its secrets, anyway," She placed the card ('Lamia') onto a Monster Zone on her Duel Disk, "Appear now, 'Lamia'!"
Appearing onto the field was a green-scaled woman with the body of a serpent (Level: 4/ATK: 1300/DEF: 1500).
"This Summon activates my monster's first effect," said Serpentine Princess, drawing a card and looking at it ('Evil Dragon Ananta'), "If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: I can add 1 Level 8 Reptile monster…" She looked up at her opponent, "…from my Deck to my hand."
"No matter, I still have ways to win," insisted Emily, before taking and holding another card ('Pre-Preparation of Rites'), "I activate 'Pre-Preparation of Rites'! I must add 1 Ritual Spell from my Deck to my hand, and add 1 Ritual Monster from my Deck or GY to my hand whose name is listed on that Ritual Spell," Two cards ('Hymn of Light' and 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons') emerged from her Deck, which she took hold of and added into her hand, "I can only activate 1 'Pre-Preparation of Rites' per turn."
Serpentine Princess uttered a quick grunt of annoyance.
"Next, I'll activate a Continuous Trap!" continued Emily, as her first Set card flipped face-up and revealed itself to be… "'Miraculous Descent'! I must target 1 of my banished Fairy monsters; I must Special Summon it," She held her right hand in the air, as specks of fairy dust started raining down, "Show yourself, my guardian angel! 'Wingweaver'!"
Pretty soon, the familiar six-winged Queen of all Fairy monsters started descending from the sky towards the ground (Level: 7/ATK: 2750/DEF: 2400).
"Tch!" muttered Serpentine Princess, "It still loses 300 ATK and DEF!"
'Wingweaver', despite getting weaker, remained on her feet the best she could (ATK: 2750 → 2450/DEF: 2400 → 2100). Suddenly, she remembered a brief conversation she had with Guardian Eatos before she left The Sanctuary in the Sky.
"You're giving me these cards? Are you sure about that?" - Emily
"Yes, Emily, these two cards are now yours. You will know what to do with them. Just trust in them, and in your light." - Guardian Eatos
Nodding over the memory, she continued with her turn, this time slotting a card into a Spell & Trap Zone on her Duel Disk.
"From there, I'll activate a Ritual Spell from my hand!" As Emily said that, a Spell Card called 'Hymn of Light' materialized face-up on the field, "'Hymn of Light'! This card is used to Ritual Summon 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons'. I must also Tribute monsters from my hand or field whose total Levels equal 6 or more," She took a card ('Soul of Purity and Light') from her hand, held it out, then sent it to the GY, "By offering 'Soul of Purity and Light'…" While speaking, a naked, transparent woman with shoulder-length blonde hair and two large angelic wings sticking out of her back and covering her front briefly appeared before fading away into a blue streak, "…I'll Ritual Summon 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons'!"
Appearing on the field in 'Soul of Purity and Light's' place, was a humanoid dragon-like Queen with golden scales and two majestic-looking dragon wings (Level: 6/ATK: 2200/DEF: 2100).
"And now, to inflict some early damage," continued Emily, as her second Set card flipped face-up and revealed itself, "Trap Card, 'Solar Ray', activate! I must inflict 600 damage to my opponent for each face-up LIGHT monster on my field.
The face-up 'Solar Ray' Trap Card started emitting powerful rays of sunshine onto the opposing field, causing Serpentine Princess to cry out as she sustained some moderate damage (LP: 4000 → 2800).
"Battle!" declared Emily, entering her Battle Phase, "'Wingweaver', take out 'Urubonus'!"
'Wingweaver' obeyed, raising her hands upward and causing beams of light to rain down on the field. 'Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice' was hit by a beam and exploded from destruction, causing Serpentine Princess to take more damage (LP: 2800 → 2350).
"My 'Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice'…" growled Serpentine Princess.
"With your monster gone, my own monsters regain the power they lost," reminded Emily.
'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' (ATK: 2200 → 2500/DEF: 2100 → 2400) and 'Wingweaver' (ATK: 2450 → 2750/DEF: 2100 → 2400).
"And now, 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' will eliminate 'Lamia'!"
'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' charged and fired off a golden fire breath, striking and destroying 'Lamia' in a massive explosion. However, since 'Lamia' was in Defense Position, Serpentine Princess sustained no battle damage.
"'Lamia'…!" winced Serpentine Princess.
"I Set two more cards," Emily, as she slotted two cards into her Duel Disk separate, went on, which resulted in two new Set cards materializing on the field, "Then, since it's the End Phase, I'll activate 'Saffira's' special ability! During the End Phase, if this card was Ritual Summoned this turn, or if a LIGHT monster was sent from the hand or Deck to the GY this turn while this card was face-up on the field: I can activate 1 of these effects."
These were the effects written on said Ritual Monster Card:
-"I must draw 2 cards, then discard 1 card."
-"I must discard 1 random card from your opponent's hand."
-"I must add 1 LIGHT monster from my GY to my hand."
"Which effect will she even choose?" thought Serpentine Princess, "Each of them are very useful for her to use."
The answer…
"I choose to activate the first effect," said Emily, drawing two cards and then sending one card ('Wings of Misdirection') to the GY, "I'll draw two cards and then discard a card," She added the lone card into her hand, "I can only use 1 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' effect per turn, and only once that turn. With that, my turn's finished!"
"Curse you!" hissed Serpentine Princess, "You won't touch me again!" She drew a card, "Draw!"
Turn Four: Serpentine Princess (LP: 2350)
Deck: 49
Current Hand (4): "Pot of Acquisitiveness", "Yowie", "Evil Dragon Ananta", and "Pot of Greed"
The 'Pot of Greed' Spell Card flipped face-up and revealed itself.
"Just like you did, I'll activate the Spell Card 'Pot of Greed'!" acknowledged Serpentine Princess, drawing two cards, "Now, let's see…" She looked at her hand and smiled maliciously at what she saw was there, "Yes, I have them, now!"
Emily readied herself for what was coming next.
"Now, come forth, 'Yowie'!" commanded Serpentine Princess, taking and placing a card ('Yowie') onto her Duel Disk.
Appearing onto the field was a small, brown-colored lizard with six legs (Level: 3/ATK: 500/DEF: 500).
"If this card is Summoned (and no other cards): I can activate this effect; my opponent skips their next Draw Phase."
"What?!" recoiled Emily, looking at the LP gauge on her Duel Disk. The LP gauge was flashing the words 'Glitched' repeatedly, "My Draw Phase is skipped?!"
"I can only Special Summon once, the turn I activate this effect," recalled Serpentine Princess, before looking down at the 'Yowie' Monster Card on her Duel Disk, "I can only use this effect of 'Yowie' once per Duel," She then made a Spell Card called 'Snake Rain' flip face-up and reveal itself, "From there, I'll activate 'Snake Rain'! I must discard 1 card; I must send 4 Reptile monsters from my Deck to the GY."
Emily watched as Serpentine Princess discarded a card from her hand, then took four cards from her Deck and also sent them to the GY.
"Finally, it's time for my ultimate power to show itself!" announced Serpentine Princess, "To do so, I need to banish a whole slew of Reptile monsters—from my field and from my GY!" While speaking on, nine cards ('Ipiria', 'Black Mamba', 'Urubonus, the Avatar of Malice', 'Lamia', 'Sinister Serpent', 'Cobra Jar', 'Ruklamba the Spirit King', 'Granadora' and 'Razor Lizard') from her GY started emerging one-by-one, "From my GY, I have 'Ipiria', 'Black Mamba', 'Urubonus', 'Lamia', 'Sinister Serpent', 'Cobra Jar', 'Ruklamba the Spirit King', 'Granadora' and 'Razor Lizard'…" Attention was then given to 'Yowie' on the field, "…while my field has 'Yowie'! Be gone, my monsters!"
'Yowie' faded away into a blue streak, just as nine large images of the mentioned GY-bounded Monster Cards appeared in midair and floated around Serpentine Princess before fading away into oblivion. With the sacrifices done, Serpentine Princess raised her next card ('Evil Dragon Ananta') up dramatically.
"With the sacrifices given, I'll now play this card!" she boomed, "Come forth, 'Evil Dragon Ananta'!"
The area started shaking itself to pieces, with Emily struggling to remain on her feet the entire time. The ground soon opened up as a stream of fire erupted, before a huge, seven-headed snake started appearing as the flames died down and the ground rebuilt itself.
"This… this is my ultimate power!" bragged Serpentine Princess, raising both hands into the air in triumph, "The ultimate snake of this world! It cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. It must be Special Summoned by banishing all Reptile monsters I control and in my GY. But that's not a bad thing at all!"
"It's not?" wondered Emily.
"Nope!" barked Serpentine Princess, "The first effect takes care of that problem! This card's ATK/DEF become the number of monsters banished for its Special Summon x 600."
"Now I get it!" realized Emily, "You've banished ten monsters for the Summon! That gives 'Ananta' an ATK and DEF of…6000!"
That proved to be the case; 'Evil Dragon Ananta' was nearly unstoppable (Level: 8/ATK: 6000/DEF: 6000).
"And there's so much more!" Serpentine Princess went on, "Remember 'Lamia'? When she's banished, her second effect activates! If this card is banished: I can target 1 Reptile monster I control; it cannot be destroyed by card effects until the end of the next turn," She held her right hand out, "Now, 'Ananta', accept this additional power!"
'Evil Dragon Ananta's' seven heads let out mighty roars as they gained the temporary power to be nearly indestructible. Emily was extremely concerned that both her monsters were open to destruction and she would be defeated if she didn't act now. To that, she pressed a button on her Duel Disk.
"I activate a Continuous Trap, 'Pixie Ring'!" announced Emily, as her first Set card flipped face-up and revealed itself. A ring materialized on the middle finger of 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons', "While I control 2 or more face-up Attack Position monsters, my opponent cannot target my monster(s) with the lowest ATK for an attack," She pointed at Serpentine Princess scornfully, "This means the only monster you can attack is 'Wingweaver'!"
"Should I be worried about that?" scoffed Serpentine Princess, "Your 'WIngweaver' has 2750 ATK, and my 'Evil Dragon Ananta' has 6000 ATK! One blow will take her out and finish you off!" She held another Spell Card called 'Pot of Acquisitiveness', "I activate 'Pot of Acquisitiveness'! I must target 3 banished monsters; I must shuffle all 3 into the Deck, then draw 1 card. I can only activate 1 'Pot of Acquisitiveness' per turn," The snake-like princess monster held her right hand up as three more cards ('Ipiria', 'Black Mamba' and 'Lamia') appeared in her right hand, which were then shuffled into her Deck before she drew a card, "Draw!"
The card was a Spell Card called 'Molting Escape', and it was exactly what Serpentine Princess needed to complete her strategy.
"I activate an Equip Spell!" she began, before the mentioned Spell Card materialized face-up on the field behind 'Evil Dragon Ananta' before powering up the monster, "'Molting Escape'! I must equip only to a Reptile monster. Once per turn: If the equipped monster would be destroyed by battle, it is not destroyed."
Emily grimaced, waiting for the impending attack.
"You're done for!" laughed Serpentine Princess, entering her Battle Phase, "'Ananta', attack 'Wingweaver'!"
'Evil Dragon Ananta' obeyed, charging a seven-way poisonous blast from the mouths of the heads.
"I activate a Trap, 'Wall of Disruption'!" exclaimed Emily, as her remaining Set card flipped face-up and revealed itself, "When an opponent's monster declares an attack: All Attack Position monsters my opponent controls lose 800 ATK for each monster they control.
'Evil Dragon Ananta' grew weaker (ATK: 6000 → 5200).
"Pay it no mind!" shouted Serpentine Princess, "Take down 'Wingweaver'!"
The attack was fired off, striking 'Wingweaver' and destroying her in a massive explosion. Emily screamed as she was thrown against the ground from the backlash of the attack and lost most of her LP (LP: 2600 → 150). Plus, with 'Wingweaver' gone, the face-up 'Miraculous Descent' Trap Card also shattered into shards of glass.
"And that's still not enough!" ranted Serpentine Princess, "'Ananta's' second effect activates! Once per turn, during my End Phase: I must target 1 card on the field; I must destroy that target! That means your Ritual Monster, 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons', will join 'Wingweaver' in the land of the dead!"
The central head of 'Evil Dragon Ananta' opened its mouth and fired another dark breath, this time at 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons'. The attack collided, causing another massive explosion to be left behind. Serpentine Princess kept smiling madly, believing that once Emily's field was clear of monsters, she would have absolutely no chance of winning. That hope, however, was struck down as the smoke cleared away; 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' was revealed to be still standing.
"What?!" wailed Serpentine Princess, "I didn't destroy that monster?"
"No… you didn't," The voice of Emily responded, which brought even more worry to Serpentine Princess. She slowly returned to her feet with a weak, yet pleased, smile on her face, "If a Ritual Monster(s) I control would be destroyed by battle or card effect while this card is in my GY, I can banish 'Hymn of Light' instead."
'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' let out a victorious roar, which severely angered 'Evil Dragon Ananta' and especially Serpentine Princess.
"How dare you!" howled Serpentine Princess, "I must defeat you! My superiors demanded that I stop you at any cost! I mustn't let them down!"
"Your superiors demanded you stop me in particular?" blinked Emily, before realizing the truth of the matter, "You mean…you work for the Court of Darkness?"
"Yes, I'm an ally of the Court of Darkness!" Serpentine Princess answered, "They instructed me to defeat and capture you should you come into my territory! I can't let them down!" She calmed herself down, "But I'm not worried about losing to you in the slightest," Emily weakly listened to the rambling, "'Evil Dragon Ananta' has 5200 ATK, and 'Saffira' has only 2500 ATK. And, best of all, due to 'Yowie's' effect, your Draw Phase is skipped!" The snake-like princess monster let out an evil cackle, "How do you plan on turning things around when you only have a single card in your hand and know your end is coming on my next turn?"
Turn Five: Emily Stirling (LP: 150)
Deck: 43
Current Hand (1): "Monster Reborn"
Emily stared at her 'Monster Reborn' Spell Card, already knowing exactly what to bring back the moment she had activated her 'Wall of Disruption' Trap Card. Finally, she made a move…
"Spell Card, 'Monster Reborn', activate!" began Emily, holding her lone card ('Monster Reborn') out, "I must target 1 monster in either GY; I must Special Summon it. Resurrect, 'Fairy Archer'!"
Reappearing on the field was 'Fairy Archer' (Level: 3/ATK: 1400/DEF: 600).
"'Fairy Archer'? Are you kidding me?" complained Serpentine Princess, "Even if you inflict damage upon me using her effect, you still cannot beat me!"
"I activate 'Fairy Archer's' effect!" announced Emily, as 'Fairy Archer' made her bow appear and readied an arrow of light, "During my Main Phase: I can inflict 400 damage to my opponent for each face-up LIGHT monster I control," Emily nodded as she finished the explanation, "I can only use this effect once per turn. Now, open fire, 'Fairy Archer'!"
'Fairy Archer' fired the arrow, clipping Serpentine Princess in the shoulder as she lost some LP from the effect (LP: 2350 → 1550).
"Didn't you even listen?" raged Serpentine Princess, "You can't defeat me!"
Emily smiled grimly, "Actually…" she pointed out, "…I'm about to win."
"What?" gasped Serpentine Princess.
"You see, once one card got into my GY, my victory was all ensured," continued Emily, "It happened thanks to when I used 'Saffira's' effect to draw two cards and discard a card," She looked down at her GY, "This is my card…" The card ejected from the GY, and was taken and held up, "'Wings of Misdirection'!"
"It can't be!" panicked Serpentine Princess.
"This card has two effects, and I'm going to activate the second one since the activation requirements are met," said Emily, talking hard as she went over what else her 'Wings of Misdirection' Trap Card did, "I can banish this card from my GY and 2 cards I control, then target 1 monster I control; until the end of this turn, it gains 800 ATK, also the effect and activation of all cards my opponent…" Serpentine Princess looked very spooked as the explanation came to an end, "…currently controls are negated."
Serpentine Princess was so startled that she couldn't speak properly, which Emily took advantage of. She pointed at what was on her field and continued with preparing for her victory.
"I banish 'Wings of Misdirection' from my GY, along with both 'Pixie Ring' and 'Fairy Archer' on my field!" declared Emily, then, while the face-up 'Pixie Ring' Trap Card and 'Fairy Archer' both faded away in streaks of blue, directed her attention towards 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons', "By targeting 'Saffira', her ATK will increase by 800 points and render the effects of all enemy cards nullified!"
'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' started glowing all gold, causing the dark, creepy area to brighten up considerably. Emily smiled, while Serpentine Princess was wincing and wailing from the light. As 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' got stronger (ATK: 2500 → 3300), 'Evil Dragon Ananta' instead lost all of its stats (ATK: 5200 → 0/DEF: 6000 → 0). Again, Serpentine Princess was unable to speak properly from the resulting shock that Emily had overpowered her. Finally, the Battle Phase began.
"Let's go, Saffira'!" ordered Emily, as 'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' charged another golden fire breath attack from her mouth, "Attack 'Evil Dragon Ananta' with everything you have!"
'Saffira, Queen of Dragons' fired off the attack, striking 'Evil Dragon Ananta' and causing the enemy monster to roar in agony before melting away. Serpentine Princess screamed from the attack as her LP ran out completely (LP: 1550 → 0).
DUEL RESULTS: Emily Stirling wins!
When the attack finally ended, Serpentine Princess weakly fell to her hands in defeat.
"Impossible…" The snake-like princess monster uttered, "I was defeated in my own domain? And with my loss…" She looked up at Emily, who said nothing over her win, "I… I guess there isn't any choice, is there?"
"There isn't," replied Emily, "Since I won, I'm allowed to leave unharmed."
"Yes… Yes, you are free to leave," agreed Serpentine Princess, "Just…go. Get out of here," She started to get back up, "Leave…so you won't see what happens to me."
"What?" gasped Emily, before noticing there was a cliff edge nearby and that Serpentine Princess was backing away, "Wait, what are you-?"
"The Court of Darkness will be displeased with me for failing to get you," rambled Serpentine Princess, still backing away, "But I would rather go out on my own terms than to suffer the consequences by their hands…"
She inched closer and closer to the cliff's edge.
"Stop," whispered Emily, before raising her voice in distress, "Don't do it!"
Unfortunately, it was too late; Serpentine Princess fell backwards off the cliff to her death in a suicide. Emily ran towards the edge and looked down to see that the enemy monster was gone, seemingly into the darkness below. Devastated, Emily shut her eyes, looked away while fighting back tears, and backed up from the cliff's edge. Though she silently wondered why Serpentine Princess killed herself, Emily knew that she was on a journey to find her friends, the Court of Darkness was also still hunting her down, and so she had to press on despite the tragedies she encountered. She would not give up until she found Thomas and the others, defeated the Court of Darkness, and conquered the darkness in her heart.
