As wedding weekend approached, the Reagans were all hands on deck to make Jamie and Eddie's special day one to remember. Erin sent Nicki over with a ton of pictures so that she could help make a slideshow for the reception. Frank, of course, was responsible for the toast and spent much of the week fretting over getting it exactly right. Linda deemed she and Millie in charge of making sure the flowers were just right… and there were a lot of them. The night before the big day, the Reagans all gathered at Frank's house after the rehearsal dinner. Eddie had gone back to Lena's, so it was just Jamie with the entire Reagan clan.
"Ready for tomorrow?" Henry asked.
"I sure am, Pop."
"Good answer."
"Ready for the honeymoon?" Danny grinned.
"Absolutely," Jamie blushed.
"Where are we going?" Millie asked.
"We're going to Emerald Isle. It's off the coast of North Carolina."
"Cool," Millie grinned as she turned to Danny. "Can we swim with the dolphins?"
"We're not going, Silly."
"What?"
"Mil, we don't get to go on Uncle Jamie's honeymoon." Jack explained.
"Why not?
"Because. Honeymoon's are for… kissing. Only Uncle Jamie and Eddie get to go."
"Well that's not cool," Millie frowned. "Besides, you can kiss her anytime when you get married. RIght, Mr. Uncle Danny? That's when you're allowed to kiss. When you're married. And then you can kiss her anytime you want."
"Correct," Danny said. "You are not allowed to kiss anyone until you are married… which for you, will be when you're 30. And as for honeymoons, Uncle Jamie is too nice to tell you, you definitely have to sit this one out. Nobody goes on that trip but him and Aunt Eddie. End of discussion."
"Sorry, Cricket," Jamie grinned. "I promise I'll bring you back a cool souvenir."
The adults all just giggled as Millie grumbled, "It'd be cooler if we could all go with you."
"Hey, we've got fun stuff to do here," Henry assured her. "YOU specifically have a gymnastics meet that I am looking forward to. I believe there will be a few gold medals handed out at this one, if I'm not mistaken, and that new bar routine might just get you one."
"That is true," Millie smiled.
Jamie called Eddie on his way back to his apartment.
"Hey," Eddie said, ratherly shortly as he answered the phone.
"Hey, what's going on?" Jamie asked, clearly hearing frustration in her voice.
"My mother is driving me nuts. Have I told you how happy I am to be joining your family?"
"Well, in less than 24 hours, you'll be in my family and I'll be in yours… and then we can take on the world. Remember, we're going to be an army of two."
Eddie melted. "You know, if we hadn't already booked the church, we'd skip the whole thing and just fly to Vegas and get married by an Elvis impersonator tonight. I'd be fine with that."
"Me too, but I want to see you in your dress tomorrow."
"Well it is pretty fantastic… and I do want to eat that cake."
Jamie laughed. "I know it's bad luck, but I'm headed home if you want to come over."
"Don't tempt me. How'd things go with your family?"
"Well, we had to break the news to Millie that she doesn't get to go with us tomorrow night. She thought a honeymoon was just a wedding code word for another Regan family vacation."
"Oh no. Was she mad?"
"She wasn't thrilled."
"Poor thing."
"She's fine. Just don't let me forget to bring back something for them."
"Will do. Oh Jamie, I've got to go. My mom's fiddling with my dress again."
"Hey, don't let her stress you out. In 24-hours, you'll be Mrs. Reagan and we will be headed out of town for five glorious days on the beach and plenty of… kissing, according to Jack."
Eddie chuckled. "Sounds perfect, Mr. Reagan."
"I love you."
"Love you too."
As Linda was tucking in Millie, an argument was ensuing.
"But WHY?!"
"That dress is not appropriate for a wedding. It was a fun dress up dress for a night at the theater, but it's not appropriate for a wedding. No."
"But please! It's so pretty and Ms. Officer Eddie liked it and…"
"No."
"I bet my dad would say yes!"
"HA!" Linda chuckled. "I'm 100% certain he would not. Now go to sleep."
"But WHY! It's a fancy wedding and it's a fancy dress. It's perfect."
"You're about to get yourself in trouble. No. You've got that pretty dress that Aunt Wendy gave you to wear and it is the one you'll wear."
"UGH! That's not fair!"
"What is all the fussing about?" Danny asked as he stuck his head in the door. Do I hear disrespect coming from this room?"
"Not disrespect," MIllie grumbled, fully aware of the consequences for that. "Just a disagreement."
"What are we disagreeing about?"
"I want to wear my new dress for the wedding and Mrs. Aunt Linda won't let me. Tell her it's my dress and I should get to pick the one I get to wear."
Linda rolled her eyes. "Deal with this please," she said to Danny as she walked over and kissed Millie on the head. "Goodnight. I love you." She walked out to go get a shower so that Danny could lay down the law to his youngest.
"Alright, sit up and let's talk," Danny directed. "Now. Number one. If Aunt LInda tells you no about something, that's it. End of discussion. No fighting. No negotiating. Just yes ma'am. Copy?"
"Copy," Millie sighed.
"Number two. I didn't approve of that dress the first time you wore it so I'm definitely not giving you the go-ahead to wear it again. You can wear it when you're thirty-two."
"Hmph." Millie furrowed her brow.
"Number three. Uncle Jamie's got a big day tomorrow and we're not about to mess that up, so I need you to be that sweet, helpful Millie that we all know and love. No bad attitudes when there's a priest and cake involved. Yes sir?"
"Yes sir," she muttered.
"Good. Love ya big."
"Love you bigger."
"You get all that straightened out?" Linda asked as she walked into the bedroom to find her nightclothes after her bath.
"I told her under no circumstances is she wearing that dress tomorrow and we also don't fight with Aunt Linda when we don't get our way. Done."
"Good. I'm glad this fight happened tonight. It would've been awful if it went down tomorrow. I need that child smiling for pictures instead of burning a hold through my soul with her eyes."
Danny chuckled. "She's just tired. It's been a long day."
"Just know, I'm calling you in if there's a fight getting dressed. What time do you have to be to the church?"
"I'm meeting Jamie, Dad, and Pops at 3pm. What time do you have to be there?"
"We have to be there at 3pm as well. That's perfect. We can all ride together."
"You guys don't have to be there earlier than us?"
"It helps that she decided not to have bridesmaids, she's an only child, and her dad's in prison. That cuts out a whole lot of photos."
Wedding day proved to be magical from start to finish. Linda, Erin, Nicki, and Millie met Eddie and Lena for brunch before heading to the salon to get Eddie's hair and makeup done and then they all got a manicure together.
"What color are you getting, Mil?" Nicki asked.
"I like this one."
"Island breeze? That is pretty."
"Which one are you getting?"
"Mango Tango. It will match the flowers in my dress."
When Eddie's hair, makeup, and nails were complete, they said their goodbyes and all drove back to their respective houses to get their dresses, and in Linda's case, pick up Danny and the boys, and head to the church.
LInda's navy blue, silk dress was absolutely beautiful. Much to Millie's dislike, her boho style dress was ecru, but she was absolutely adorable, so that's really all that mattered for the pictures. Both boys were wearing a jacket and tie and Danny, acting as one of Jamie's groomsmen, was wearing a back coat with tails, white shirt, yellow puff tie with navy stripes, and dark grey trousers.
"Hey Mrs. Aunt Linda, can I have make-up?" Millie asked as she put on her brown sandals.
"Sure. Come here." LInda gave her some glittery eye shadow, mascara, and some pale pink lip gloss. LInda braided back the top of Millie's hair and they were ready to go. They walked out of the dressing room and caught up with the rest of the family.
"Wow!" Danny mouthed as Linda seductively smiled in his direction. "You look hot," he whispered in her ear as she posed with him for a picture.
"You don't look so bad yourself," she smiled.
"Hey Grandpa!" Millie waved as Frank came walking in from the back of the church. "How do you like my outfit?"
"I love it." He walked over and gave both she and Nicki a hug. "You both look very beautiful… and way too grown up."
"It's my makeup," Millie whispered.
They did all of their pictures with Jamie first and then hid him away in the back and did pictures with Eddie.
As the church started to fill, more and more people from the Reagan world began to show up. Baez and Baker both took a seat beside Sid, Jim, and Garrett. "Can I go see Mr. Jim and Det. Baez real quick?" Millie asked.
"I'll go with her," Jack said. "Come on, Mil." He grabbed her hand and they headed to the back.
"Mr. Jim!" she smiled.
"Miss Millie! You cut your hair."
"I did," she smiled as they all stood up for hugs.
"I love it."
"Thanks. Hey Det. Baez. Hi Sarge. Hi Mrs. Det. Baker. Hey Mr. Garrett."
"Hi Millie," they all smiled. "Hey Jack."
"Hey guys."
They visited for a few minutes before the music started and Linda whipped her head around to wave them to the front. "Come on, Mil. We gotta go."
Millie smiled and waved as they took off to the front row and took their seats. Jamie, Danny, and Pop all walked out and took their places. It was clear they were confused as to why Frank wasn't with them until the wedding march began, the doors opened, and they saw him escort Eddie down the aisle. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. They exchanged their vows, both absolutely glowing. Danny made a speech, which was hysterical, and before they knew it, they were announced man and wife.
"Alright," Sean said, looking to Jack and Millie when it was over. "Let's go party. I want cake."
"Are we riding or walking?" LInda asked when they joined Danny in the back of the church.
"It's only a couple of blocks. Want to walk?"
"Sure."
Danny took LInda's right hand and Millie's left hand and the Reagans made their way to the rooftop of the New Museum where there was a bar, band, plenty of food, a dance floor, a photo booth, and sparkling lights.
"This is going to be fun," Danny grinned as they all surveyed the rooftop. "Hey, look at me. Don't get too close to the edge and do not leave this roof for any reason without telling me or Mom. Deal?"
"Deal," the kids all agreed.
They got some food and mingled around with all of their friends and family. Finally, Eddie and Jamie were announced and the both walked out, absolutely glowing.
"Hey!" the Reagans all shouted when they saw them.
"There they are!" Frank announced with a big smile on his face as he walked over with opens arms and gave Jamie a hug. "Congratulations, Son."
"Thanks, Dad."
"Eddie, welcome to the family," he added with a kiss to her cheek.
"Thank you."
The kids and adults alike partied hard for the next couple of hours. They danced, took silly photos, and enjoyed snacking on all the delicious food. Henry gave a best man's speech, Jamie threw the garder and Eddie tossed the bouquet… all the traditional wedding things before finally everything culminated into an amazing fireworks show. It was the perfect night.
"Ready to go?" Jamie asked, looking to Eddie as the fireworks ended. "My dad upgraded our room to a suite at the Plaza Hotel."
"A suite? Oh let's go now," Eddie grinned.
"We all ready to take off?" Danny asked. "It's been a long day and you're all starting to look a little tuckered."
"How about Pop and I take these three and Nicki with us? You guys take the night off."
"Are you sure?" LInda asked.
"Without a doubt. It won't be too long before they're all ready to crash. We'll have breakfast fixed in the morning if you want to bring them some clothes before church."
"Sounds good to me," Danny smiled. "We'll go have our own honeymoon." He waved the kids over to where he was standing in a circle with Frank, Linda, and Erin.
"Hey guys, Grandpa's taking you home with him tonight. You good with that?"
"Sounds good!" Jack and Sean smiled, hoping Henry would give them a few rounds of poker before bedtime.
"Mil?"
"Ok," she shrugged.
"Good deal. We'll be over early with clothes for church."
"Thanks, Dad," Erin said as she gave Frank a kiss to the cheek.
"Yes. Thank you, Frank." Linda kissed his cheek as well. "Need us to help you get them back to the car?"
"Nah. Pop and I have our car valeted out front. We'll be fine."
They turned their attention back to the kids. "Buy guys. Be good for Grandpa and Pop. We'll see you in the morning."
Danny looked to Erin. "We'll walk you back to your car." He turned back to Frank. "You sure you're good?"
Frank chuckled. "We're good. Get out of here."
"Thanks, Dad."
Erin and LInda linked arms as they headed out of the museum and started back toward the church. "So… are you calling Jack?" Linda giggled.
"The thought crossed my mind."
"Crossed your mind?"
"I may have already texted Jack and told him to meet me at my place," Erin whispered. Don't tell my brother." They both died out laughing as Danny caught up with them.
"What's so funny?"
"Nothing," they answered in unison.
"Uh huh…"
"I was just telling LInda how fun it might be if the three of us went rollerskating tonight. Doesn't that sound fun?"
Danny looked at her like she was insane. "No offense, Sis, but our kids are gone for the night and we have the house to ourselves. I'm definitely not wasting an opportunity to go spend a night at home with my wife to instead go rollerskating with you and all Manhattan's pre-teens."
"Well good, Daniel. I don't want to go skating with you either." They gave each other a hug as Erin got in her car. "See you tomorrow."
"Drive safe."
While Danny and LInda were making their way back to Staten Island and Erin was making her way back to her apartment in Park Slope, Jamie and Eddie were checking in to the Plaza.
"Ah yes," the man at the front desk smiled when Jamie walked up and told him his name, "coming in fresh off a wedding, right?"
"That's right," Jamie answered as he and Eddie both stood at the front desk, beaming.
"Well let me be the first to welcome you to the Plaza, Mr. and Mrs. Reagan. We've got our best suite for you." He handed them the room key. "Complimentary chocolate covered strawberries and a chilled bottle of champagne await you. If you need anything else, please just dial 0 on your phone and we will be happy to assist you."
"Thanks."
The bellman helped them up to the suite. Eddie rested her head on Jamie's shoulder as they rode the elevator hand-in-hand.
"Whoa!" they both gasped as they opened the door. "This is fancy."
"Your dad did good," Eddie smiled.
"Yeah he did."
"Oh my gosh, do you know what I just realized?"
"What?" Jamie asked.
"I'm going to do something tonight that I've never done before."
Jamie looked confused. "Planning on trying something new? Because I think we've been rehearsing for this night for quite a while and we're pretty good at it."
"Not that…" Eddie rolled her eyes. "Well, sort of that. I'm sleeping with a married man tonight."
Jamie continued walking through the suite. "How about two new things tonight?"
"My body can only contort in so many ways, Mr. Reagan."
Jamie laughed. "Not that… I was thinking before you sleep with a married man, you might consider taking a bath in that amazing claw foot tub with a married man…"
"You run the bath, I'll get the champagne."
While all of Frank's children enjoyed a romantic evening, Frank and Henry took the kids back to the house and put on a movie. Millie and Nicki got on either side of Henry while Jack and Sean stretched out on the couch. It didn't take long before they were all sound asleep.
"Jamie looked happy tonight," he whispered to Henry as the kids slept soundly.
"Yeah he did."
"I like Eddie. Like you said last night, I think she'll be breath of fresh air for our family."
"Yeah."
"What is it, Francis?" Henry asked, noticing the wheels in Frank's head spinning.
"It's just… Up until this moment, I've kept my daughter out of harm's way. Now as the PC, it's my job to send my new daughter out into possible harm every day. And after seeing her with Jamie… I don't know what he'd ever do if he lost her. He looks at her like I used to look at Mary."
"I know. I recognized the look." Frank took a deep breath. "Don't let the worry of what could happen keep you from enjoying every minute of what is happening. Look around you, Erin and Danny's love stories produced these four sitting with us right now. There's no telling what Jamie and Eddie's will produce."
"I guess you're right," Frank sighed.
"Of course I'm right," Henry said smugly. "How do you think you got the job as the family philosopher? You had to learn it somewhere."
Frank chuckled. "Thanks, Pop."
