It's been about 5 days since Dylan visited Edna. Eventually during that time, she has finished Dylan's new agent suit, and patched the hole on the right sleeve of his old one. He has hung his old suit in a room with all his other agent stuff that has no windows, and stored his new one in a secret compartment.
Right now, he is relaxing in his house since Mirabel was tired today. Also all the other Madrigals are extremely busy either doing chores or helping prepare the proposal dinner that is in 2 days.
Dylan is bored right now, he has nothing going on and Mirage hasn't called him for another mission ye–
Buzzzzzz
Dylan checks his phone and sees that Mirage is calling him.
Speak of the devil
Dylan answers and brings his phone up to his ear. "Hello?" "We have a new assignment for you," Mirage says. Dylan gets excited, he's finally going on another mission, which means he has to lie to Mirabel again.
"What's my mission?" Dylan asks. "We'll brief you on your mission when you're here, but how soon can you get here?" Dylan thinks about it for a second, maybe he can leave tomorrow night, he's not really interested in going to the proposal dinner since it's kind of an arranged marriage between Isabela and Mariano.
"I'll crossover by tomorrow night," he answers. "See you there." "Goodbye."
Alright, now he has another mission from Mirage. He wonders what he can do with whatever pay Mirage gives him after this mission. Maybe he can spend the money he gets to have a nice dinner with Mirabel.
Ever since Mirabel kissed Dylan on the cheek, the time they almost kissed at the Pasture, and the two hanging out more often, Dylan has started growing feelings for her.
But the thing is that they'll need to have this dinner in private without Alma knowing. Dylan knows for sure that she wouldn't want him and Mirabel together.
But like last time with his first mission…he has to lie to Mirabel again.
Dylan gets dressed and makes his way over to the door so he can head to Casita to talk to Mirabel. He unlocks the lock and opens the door so–
Oh no
The moment Dylan opened his door, his heart dropped when he saw a particular someone standing right in front of the doorway, giving him a suspicious look.
"Dolores, uh hi"
Dolores places her hands on her hips and slowly makes her way into Dylan's house. "Who were you talking to Dylan?"
Oh god, she must've heard the phone call.
"Oh that…uhh I was just talking to myself," he lies. Dolores is not convinced, she shuts the front door, leaving her and a scared Dylan in the house. "Oh yeah, then why did I hear a woman's voice in here as well?"
Great. Dylan has to come up with the best lies he can possibly make so as to not expose his agent identity. "Oh that? Sometimes I like to imitate voices. 'Oh look, it's me Dolores, who is just stepping into Dylan's house without his permission'," he says in the best imitation of Dolores' voice he can do.
"I do not sound like that. And what was that woman's voice talking about some sort of mission?" Dolores asks as she slowly walks toward a terrified Dylan who is backing away. "Mission? What mission?" "Don't lie to me Dylan, I can hear everything. I can even hear your heartbeat going extremely fast, so something is bothering you."
At this point Dylan has backed up far enough he felll backwards onto the couch. Dolores is still suspicious of him and he needs to get her out of here. So, he comes up with an idea. "Why are you even here, shouldn't you be helping your family set up the proposal dinner? I mean it's in 2 days."
Then, Dolores stops giving Dylan a suspicious look and looks down at the floor in sadness as she lets out a sigh.
"Don't remind me."
Dylan then relaxes and looks at Dolores in concern. "Why? Is something about it bothering you?" Dolores nods her head. "Do you…want to talk about it?"
"No, it's not my place to tell anyone," she turns around to walk towards the door, "sorry for bothering you Dylan." As she starts making her way towards the door, Dylan stands up and follows her. "Dolores wait."
He places a hand on her shoulder, making her stop and look up at him. "If something's bothering you, it's okay if you talk to me about it."
Eventually, Dolores lets out a breath and walks towards the couch. Once she sits on it, Dylan sits next to her to listen to her. "You cannot tell anyone what I'm going to tell you." "I won't," Dylan nods.
Dolores breathes in and out and a tear trickles down her cheek as she's about to tell Dylan her secret.
"I like Mariano."
Dylan's eyes widen as he hears what Dolores said. It then hits him why she is sad. She's in love with Mariano, but he's been arranged to be married with Isabela, and Dolores has to watch him propose to her own cousin. This is exactly why Dylan doesn't like arranged marriage.
Now with the truth revealed and Dolores in silent tears, it's time for Dylan to comfort her. "It's okay, I know how it feels. Being in love with someone but not able to be with them," he says as he wraps an arm around her.
Dolores looks up at him. "So you know what it feels like too?" "Yes, and the reason why I can't be with that girl is because your Abuela would disapp–" Dylan stops and covers his mouth as he realizes what he's saying. Dolores takes in what he had said and looks up at him with wide eyes.
"You…you like Mirabel?"
Defeated, Dylan nods his head. "Yes…yes I do." Dolores looks at Dylan in shock. She has seen how well the two got along together, but for some reason it surprises her that Dylan likes Mirabel.
Dylan then looks back at Dolores. "But for you, I know it's going to be hard for you when you see the man of your dreams betrothed to your cousin. But–" he takes Dolores' hands, "take these words my mom told me before she died into account. 'There is always someone out there for everyone.'"
Dolores is almost on the verge of tears. She does know for a fact that Dylan has comforted Mirabel since she saw how happy she was when the two spent more time together. But, she didn't expect him to comfort her one day.
Dolores throws her arms around Dylan and hugs him tightly. "Thank you…primo." Dylan's heart is touched, he knows that primo means cousin in spanish. He hugs Dolores back. "Your welcome…prima."
After that, Dolores left Dylan's house. She still does wonder what that woman's voice she heard was, but she thinks it's nothing bad. She also does feel happy as she has finally told someone the truth of her liking Mariano, and getting comfort. But most surprisingly, it was the number one person Abuela told the family not to trust.
"Abuela…please don't hurt him. He's a good guy," she whispers.
Another chapter done. This is also my last week of my semester so I'll be posting chapters a bit more frequently. Also, next week on 8/2, I'm going to be on vacation for 6 days so I'll be down for a bit. Let me know what you think in the reviews.
