The setting of this story, Markson, is a fictitious city located in Oregon. I wanted to use an actual city on the west coast, but ultimately decided on a fake one, which was easier to work on.
The Gargantuas, Gaira and Sanda, were originally going to be featured. A female biologist would have found Gaira in the wilderness, and later found Sanda, before the two fought each other. They both arrive in the main city (before I decided on a fictional one) and are attacked by Godzilla, causing them to work together. Gaira is killed, as Sanda buries Godzilla under a building. He mourns his dead brother, before disappearing. This whole subplot was scrapped because I felt it was unnecessary to the main conflict of the story.
