Blueeyeddevil06, thank you for being amazing and my beta.
You'll need to go back and read the previous chapter. I realized I posted out of order. Sorry.
Jay was holding Jennifer as she awoke from what would have killed her if she had been a witch and not a heretic. The amount of relief in him that she was going to be okay would have knocked the breath out of him if he had any.
She opened her eyes and peered up at him. She then cracked a smile and said, "that was pretty bad-ass, wasn't it?"
He chuckled and, in response, said, "I'm going to show you what I want to do to that ass of yours later."
Ric was kissing Jenna hard on the mouth even though he was irritated with her. Help was coming, and it looked like they might live so he was relieved. However, he did grumble at her, "You kicked a hybrid. What were you thinking?"
"I obviously overestimated my abilities. I did kick him really hard, though!" She then blushed. "At least I tried to."
"While you were an ace student in your women's self-defense class, that doesn't translate to the supernatural."
The four of them were now standing as the others joined them. Alaric raised a questioning eyebrow and said, "Where is Lover Boy and his witch?"
Enzo snorted, "Wait until we have time to tell you that story. Cliffs-notes, he's the next one to become a vampire."
Jay quipped, "Good, I had him next on my bingo card."
Damon smirked but shifted into attack mode. "It's time to stop the fucker. How many did you kill in there?"
"Six," Jenna replied. "All dead-dead. No one's coming back from that."
Bonnie excitedly said, "Then Klaus is all alone."
"You killed all his hybrids?" Ric asked in total shock.
Damon smiled at the man who had become a very unlikely friend to him. "After this, I'll tell you about the woman I married. She's amazing."
Alaric raised an eyebrow appraisingly. "I look forward to the story."
Then Jenna asked, "Care to tell me why no one is reacting to that old woman walking towards us?" She was confused about why she would even be there.
Jay answered, "she's Cassandra's grandmother, and she's on our side. She's powerful too."
The elderly woman smiled at what he said and replied, "and my sweet granddaughter didn't want you down a witch. I'm here to help."
Damon shifted his attention to the woman and missed his brother's demeanor. He said, "lady, this is to the death. Can you handle that?"
The woman smiled at him. "My name is Daisy. Try a bit more respect, youngster."
"I'm over one hundred and fifty years old, young lady," he teased. His face grew solemn again, "I need to know you understand."
"Yes, I do, and so does Cassandra. You won't have a problem with her. She knows more than you do about me and my life."
Damon understood the look in her eyes. This was her final act. She intended to die fighting, not languishing in her bed. That, and Cassandra knew her plan and wouldn't blame them for it. He was impressed with both of the women's strength.
Stefan knew the look in her eyes but in a completely different way. It was her. His Daisy. The beautiful woman that had chosen her life as a witch over him, all those many decades ago. Even as an old woman, he still found her to be beautiful. He hadn't realized she'd come to make her last stand and die as a hero standing on her own two feet.
After Damon accepted her answer, they turned, and he placed a shaking hand on her arm. He whispered, "I remember."
His heart dropped when she said, "I regret..." it then soared when she said, "...denying my love for you." Her eyes teared up when she said, "The only thing I don't regret is Cassandra. I…I still love you."
Stefan's heart expanded and felt whole for the first time since she sent him on his way, oh so long ago. If he had known what she planned, he would have begged her to change her mind. As it was, both brothers saw something different in her eyes, and both liked what they saw.
Damon missed what was going on with his brother. His whole focus was on Elena, who had the white oak stake tucked in the back waistband of her pants, concealing it like some gangster. He didn't even question why it turned him on. Everything she did made him want her.
Klaus was finally picking up on the noise outside. His pride and his arrogance kept him from disappearing. After all, he was an Original, and that meant a lot. Even without backup, he just knew he wouldn't have any trouble destroying them.
He momentarily thought he should have brought Rebekah along, but that passed quickly. He was irritated with her right now. She was drinking cheap liquor and loser blood. On top of that, she was putting out like a crack whore. He was disappointed that she hadn't learned by now that you should only count on family.
Jeremy had gone straight to the fridge in his sister's room and drank the blood without pausing to warm it up. Cassandra rolled her eyes, "I could have helped you with that."
He laughed and said, "I just want to get this over with. I hate that I can't be helping Elena right now."
His eyes shot wide in terror as he felt the compulsion snap. In their haste to get everything done, they didn't realize it was out of order. He hadn't been a vampire when she compelled him. He was now a blank slate.
He looked at Cassandra in horror and yelled, "Run!" His face transformed. "I'm trying to hold back! I'm not compelled anymore."
Cassandra ran for her life, locking herself in their room with the safety latch engaged. She shook with fear as she heard him scream out.
It didn't take long, and she heard him pounding on her door. The hunt was on.
