Carmen had been thinking hard about taking the job in New York. Even though she still had five days of thinking she'd been agonizing over it for the last two. She and Jett were out to lunch. Jett noticed Carmen wasn't eating.
"Not hungry?" Jett asked.
"I'm to stressed to eat."
"Let me guess." Sam?"
"He's a big part of it."
"What else is wrong?"
"I've been offered a transfer to New York in their narcotics division."
"Are you gonna take it?"
"I'm still thinking about it."
"Does Sam know?"
"No." "Maybe a change of scenery would be good for me." "I can only think of two reasons to stay." "Harlie and Sam, I love them."
"Carmen you need to tell Sam how you feel."
"I can't." "I know he doesn't love me."
The custody hearing was in two days. It was Saturday. Harlie and Sam were at Jett and Daniel's for a barbeque. Sam came into the kitchen to get Harlie a drink. He saw Carmen.
"Hi." He said.
"Hi."
"I didn't think you were coming."
"I wasn't planning on it but I decided to."
They were all sitting outside eating.
"I have an announcement to make." Carmen said. "I've been offered a transfer to the narcotics division in New York." "I've decided to take it."
"You're moving?" Sam asked.
"Yes."
"I don't want you to go." Harlie said.
"I promise to come back and visit you."
"Are you sure this is what you want?" Jett asked.
"Yes."
"We'll miss you." Daniel said.
Harlie decided to spend the night at Jett and Daniel's.
Later that night Carmen was at home. She'd just changed into her pajamas when she heard a knock at the door. She went downstairs and over to the door.
"Who is it?"
"It's me." Sam said. She unlocked the door and opened it. He went inside.
"Are you ok?"
"No."
"What's wrong?"
"Have you taken the job yet?"
"Not officially." "I'm accepting Monday."
"Please don't."
"We'll still talk all the time."
"Carmen, I want to be with you." "I love you." "Please don't go." "I want you to stay."
Carmen couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had tears in her eyes. "You love me."
"Yes."
"I love you too." "I just didn't want to tell you because I thought you would never have the same feelings."
"I do." He said going up to her. "Please stay."
"Alright." They kissed.
