A few weeks past by and Lucas and Elizabeth couldn't be happier, Carol was gone, they had dinner together almost every night and it was getting closer to the spring. Elizabeth was excited because that would mean summer isn't too much farther away.

Lucas got up in the morning and the routine was pretty much the same with getting Kenzie up and taking her to Rosemarys but now he got to have coffee with Elizabeth every morning!

"Sweetheart" Lucas called from downstairs. "Time to go!"

Kenzie didn't answer when her father called her so he went upstairs. He knocked on the door and immediately entered. Kenzie was coughing and sneezing,

"Oh sweetheart are you okay?"

"I don't feel so good.." Lucas took his hand and put it to her head and it was warmer than an oven baking cookies.

"Okay sweetheart I'm staying home today." He kissed Kenzie on the head and went downstairs.

He first rang Elizabeth, "Hello love,"

Elizabeth on the other end was so happy to hear from him but also surprised because he doesn't usually call in the mornings. "Good morning"

"Kenzie is sick so I'll be staying home today.."

"Oh no, okay you take care of her! Me and Evah will join you two after school."

Lucas wished she could come sooner but work was part of an adults day to day life. "Okay thank you!" He said.

"No problem, I love you."

"I love you too" he replied as he hung up.

He had to phone work but before he did he brought Kenzie a glass of orange juice and a wet cloth to put on her head.

"Hey Lee, I won't be able to make it in today, Kenzie got sick."

"That's fine Lucas I hope she feels better!"

Lucas smiled his friends here were always so understanding. "Thank you Lee"

"No problem Lucas have a good one" with that they hung up so Lucas could keep tending to Kenzie.

As the day passed Kenzie was still the same, but at least she could keep orange juice. At one point she couldn't get to bed and was all stuffed up, so Lucas read her a book and rubbed her chest and back till she fell asleep. As he quietly left she room he headed downstairs and as soon as he hit the couch there was a knock on the door. He wondered who could be here at 1 pm in the afternoon.

He went to the door and opened it surprised to see Evah and Elizabeth.

"Why hello guys! What are you doing here"

Elizabeth smiled and they came in. "I decided to end school a bit early and come over now"

Lucas blushed at the kind gesture and leaned in to give her a passionate kiss. "Well, that's amazing thank you two.."

"We brought hot cocoa!"

The two of them laughed. "If you want you can go give Kenzie hers and talk to her, just don't get too close we don't want you sick too!" Lucas remarked.

Evah ran upstairs and Lucas took Elizabeth's hand and led her to sit with him on the couch.

"So how is she doing anyway?" Elizabeth asked cuddling into him.

"Eh she is still the same... I'll have to take another day off."

"No, actually you don't! I will keep them off of school tomorrow and I will watch Kenzie."

"Elizabeth I can't ask you to do that"

Elizabeth shifted to face him and put her hand on his cheek, "You don't have to ask, I offered and nothing would make me happier."

Lucas smiled as ran his hand through her hair. "You are the most amazing woman I have ever met!" Elizabeth blushed and pulled his face down to hers and didn't pull out for a few moments.

Later into the evening Lucas was exhausted from all the things he did for Kenzie, that he fell asleep on the couch. Luckily Elizabeth had free time so she and Evah stayed to help and when it became around 7 o clock Evah got tired so Elizabeth tucked her in the guest room upstairs across from Kenzie's.

"Goodnight babygirl" Elizabeth said as she turned off the light and left the room. She checked on Kenzie and when she was still asleep Elizabeth headed downstairs.

"Lucas darling," she whispered rubbing her hand on his back.

Lucas stirred but opened his eyes a moment later "Oh no, what's the time?"

"It's 7:30" Lucas sat up and pushed his hair back.

"You should have woken me up"

"No, you deserved rest.." Lucas pressed a light kiss to her forehead,

"I love you Elizabeth"

"I love you too, now head upstairs and get some more sleep."

"What about you" he asked.

"I will sleep on the couch." Lucas smiled and got her a blanket.

"Here sweetheart" as she layer down he put it over her.

"I can't thank you enough for this" Lucas remarked.

"No need, just doing what anyone would do for family…"

Lucas walked back over to her and kissed her till the point where he was beside her on the couch. As they pulled apart Lucas quoted

"I should go up before I go any further" he smirked. Elizabeth giggled a bit then they gave one last kiss goodnight and Lucas went upstairs.
