All the ladies are in the kitchen making and decorating cookies with the kids. Jo sits down on the floor with the twins as they show her their cookies. Bobby, Eddie and Buck come into the house from the garage carrying something big and wrapped up.
"What is that?" Maddie asks.
"Nothing. You don't see anything."
Chimney and Bobby carry it into the living room. Buck watches Jo with the twins. Eddie goes to Christopher and the boys. They've made fireman cookies.
"Nice cookies."
"This one's you, dad. That one's uncle Buck."
"That's Bobby and Chimney," Harry says, pointing out the cookies.
"And this is my mom." Denny holds up his cookie.
"He even gave you glasses," Eddie points out.
They all laugh as Bobby and Chimney come back into the kitchen.
Maddie looks at her watch and wipes her hands. "It's nap time for these boys."
"Do you need help?" Jo asks.
"I'll get one," Chimney says. "I always miss nap time and bed time."
Maddie picks Wes while Chimney picks up Theo and take them out of the room. Jo gets up and goes to the sink to start dishes. Buck comes up beside her and puts his hand on her back.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine," Jo replies emptily.
Buck kisses her head.
"I haven't seen you since you started school, May. How's it going?" Karen asks.
"Really well."
"She made the President's list this semester," Athena boasts.
"Mom," May moans.
"What? I'm allowed to brag."
"It's really not that big a deal. My classes aren't even that hard."
"She's taking 5 classes," Bobby adds, "two of which are honors Biology and Spanish."
"Wow," Karen says "Brag away, May. You deserve it."
Chimney comes back into the kitchen as Maddie stops in the living room to pick up some toys. Buck joins her and gives her a hand.
"They went down fast."
"They're not asleep. We've cut back to one nap a day."
"How's that going?"
"Not great."
They laugh as they put the last toy in the toy box.
"Mads, can I ask you something. It's a little personal."
"Sure."
"Jo and I are trying to get pregnant."
A smile comes across her face. "Evan! That's so great!"
"We've been trying for almost 6 months and nothing has happened."
"That's pretty common. It doesn't always happen right away."
"That's what I told her. But I got to thinking, and it might be my fault."
"No, it's not."
"Do you remember the issues I had with my leg a few years ago? They put me on the blood thinners. I looked up long-term side effects, and one of those side effects is fertility issues."
"Have you been to a doctor?"
"No. We agreed to give it another month before we go see someone." Buck shifts on his feet "How did you and Chim get pregnant so fast?"
Maddie shrugs. "It just happened."
"You weren't trying?"
"We were trying to prevent it."
"You try to prevent it and get pregnant. We try to get pregnant and it doesn't happen."
"Buck, it will happen."
Buck looks disappointed.
"I've heard eating antioxidant-rich foods can improve fertility rates, especially among men with infertility. You could also wear looser pants. Maybe lay off alcohol for a while. Men's fertility is just as important as a woman's." Maddie rubs his arm. "Give it time. If it doesn't happen next month, maybe go see a doctor. But don't stress about it."
"Thanks, Maddie."
They hug.
"My baby brother is trying to have a baby. This is so exciting!"
"Please don't say anything to anyone. And don't tell Jo I said anything. She's really upset about the whole thing."
"My lips are sealed."
Maddie puts her arm around Buck, then the two of them join everyone in the kitchen.
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
The Christmas Village is crowded with tourists. There are elves and crafts and food. There is also a large petting zoo full of camels, sheep, cows, goats, and horses. The big attraction is the herd of reindeer. Appropriately, there are 9 reindeer, named after Santa's reindeer. There's a group of teenage girls in the petting zoo. They're all on their phones taking selfies with the animals. It's obvious they're only there for the pictures. One girl, Daphne, sees the reindeer. She tries to get a selfie from the fence, but she can't get a good angle and everyone is in the way. She starts to climb over the fence.
"What are you doing?" Daphne's friend asks.
"I'm getting a selfie."
"You can't go in there."
"Watch me."
Daphne goes up to the reindeer and starts taking pictures. The reindeer keep trying to get away, but she keeps following them. They start stomping their hooves, clearly upset. Daphne grabs the reindeer by the neck and pulls it close to her. She starts to take a selfie, but the reindeer pulls its head back then swings it at her, his antler going into her chest.
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
Everyone is gathered around the reindeer pen when the 118 pulls up. They find Daphne hanging onto the reindeer's neck. The zookeepers are trying to keep it calm as the crew goes into the pen to Daphne.
"Please get me off of this thing," Daphne cries.
"What's your name?" Hen asks.
"Daphne."
"How old are you, Daphne?"
"15."
"Do you have any allergies or any medical conditions that I need to be aware of?"
"Why does any of that matter?" Daphne snaps. "Can't you see that I've got a reindeer antler lodged in my heart."
"I'll take that as a no."
Chimney starts looking Daphne over. "The good news is that I don't think it pierced your heart, but it might have gone through your left lung."
"Just get me off!"
"Right now the bleeding isn't too bad because the antler is acting as a plug. If we pull it out here, it could possibly cause more damage and you could bleed out."
"What?" Daphne shrieks.
"It's okay. You're going to be fine. I need you to stay calm for me."
"What do we do about the reindeer?" Eddie asks, trying to sooth the animal. "It's getting mad, and if it makes any sudden moves it could make things worse."
Bobby turns to the zookeeper. "Is there any way you can tranquilize it, just until we get her off of it?"
"We can, but it takes a few seconds to go into effect."
"We have a squeeze shoot we use to contain them while we're doing medical checkups," another zookeeper says. "If we get him in there, that would restrict his movement."
Bobby nods. "That'll work. Buck and Eddie, keep her steady while he moves."
The zookeepers use their call that lets the animals know it's time to go inside. Buck and Eddie make sure Daphne is secure. The reindeer goes into a different pen and the keepers lead him into the shoot and lock him in.
Daphne hands her phone to Buck. "Can you guys go live on my Instagram? My followers are going to go crazy over this."
She hands him her phone, but he puts it in his pocket.
"We're going to sedate him now."
"Guys, keep her steady."
Eddie and Buck hold onto Daphne. The zookeepers give the reindeer a shot and sedate him. The reindeer stomps around, trying to get loose. After a few moments, he goes to sleep.
"We have to work fast."
Chimney and Hen try to remove the horn from Daphne's chest, but it's not coming loose.
"It won't budge, Cap."
"We have to cut the antler off." Bobby looks at the zookeepers for their permission.
"We typically only remove their antlers under extreme situations."
Bobby points to Daphne who had an antler going through her chest.
The zookeeper rolls his eyes. "Fine. But our vet has to do it."
"Where is he?"
"In Burbank. He's working on a movie set today."
"You need to get him down here, now."
The zookeeper pulls out his phone to call the vet.
