Five months after moving in with Paige:

Walter's concerns of working with Toby doing the few Homeland cases that came to them weren't completely unjustified. Walter still found himself stressing more than he wanted. He was relieved that Cabe seemed to pick up on it. He took a more proactive approach as he would step in and escort Toby back away from Walter or silence him when his snark reached a certain level. But without a doubt having Happy's engineering skills and Sylvester's probabilities on the cases came in handy.

Paige and Happy had given him pretty much free rein with Centipede as it pertained to Homeland cases which caused a lot of issues for Toby. Sylvester was slowly coming around on the issue. It was at the end of the third Homeland case that Sylvester finally went to Walter. He apologized profusely for what he did to Walter and what he encouraged to happen to Walter and Scorpion. Toby really was ticked about that. And then one day he finally had enough to challenge Happy over it.

"Damn it, Happy, why aren't you supporting me against this?" Toby complained one evening as they returned home.

Happy glare at him.

"One, because we were wrong, two, because you are still wrong and three, we need these Homeland jobs. Because I'm pregnant, that is seriously curtailing the jobs we can go for in my area of expertise. Do you realize right now that the Homeland jobs have replaced over fifty percent of my jobs money wise? That's a bit more than a third of CP's total income and it is paying for the remodel of our home so we got room for our baby. Do you want us to be living on the street?" Happy demanded as they entered their home.

"Of course I don't but I still want some support." Toby complained.

"For what? To alienate Walt? You are doing a fine job on that all by yourself. You wanted majority rules, for each of us to have a vote and that is what you got. The four of us voted and it was three against one for us to accept working for Walter on the cases. And just like working for any other company as CP we have to abide by their rules. You're just mad it is Walter, if it was someone else you wouldn't care. You'd be just as stupid but you wouldn't care we were making you behave." Happy told him as she leafed through the mail. Happy's eyes opened a bit wider and then narrowed as she saw a letter from California Cryobank.

Happy quickly dropped all the other letters and tore it open and began reading.

"Ms Quinn, we've been trying to reach you for a couple of days. We need you to call our office and schedule an appointment. -Abby Meadows, California Cryobank." Happy read and frowned.

"Have you gotten any messages from California Cryobank?" Happy asked Toby.

"Yeah, I haven't called them back yet. Why?" Toby asked as he walked out of the kitchen with a Dr Shaz cola.

"Why? Because they sent a letter saying they need to talk to us. Why didn't you say something? I can't believe you." Happy swore before she pulled out her phone and called the number in the letter.

"Good Morning Ms Quinn, Dr Curtis. I'm Abby Meadows in case you don't remember me." Abby told them as she shook their hands and sat down.

"Of course we remember you. You helped us achieve this." Happy smiled as she rubbed her belly.

Abby smiled as she nodded.

"I'll need you to bear with me for a few minutes." Abby started.

"Oh I don't like how this is starting out." Toby complained.

Abby blushed a bit even as Happy smacked Toby's arm.

"Please go on." Happy said, trying to give her a chance to explain.

"There is no easy way to say this, but we had recently done an inventory and it turns out there was a mistake. First, while the donor of the sperm used for your pregnancy does meet all your stated qualifications, he still wasn't the one you chose." Abby told them.

"Wait, what?" Happy asked as Toby threw his hands up in the air.

"I know it is a shock to say the least." Abby gave her a weak smile.

"Oh you think Ms Obvious?" Toby ranted before Happy hit him in the gut. *oof*

"Give her a chance to explain." Happy sighed.

"First there is no safety issue, the donor went through the same process as everyone does so it isn't like you have to worry about any negative health effects. The problem happened because a few years ago the company changed fonts and the uppercase i of the original font looks like the new font's lowercase l. And even though it was reviewed by three people beforehand none of them had been aware of the old font." Abby explained.

"Okay, so who is this donor?" Happy asked.

"Well contractually, his donations were supposed to only be used for scientific research. But because of that and in an effort to keep any bias out of the research his information has to be kept confidential. We've reached out to him over this but we've had a problem contacting him and we recently sent him a letter and hope to hear from him soon. Without his permission or a court order we can't break the confidentiality of any of his personal information." Abby told them.

"It can't and won't change anything but what can you tell us?" Happy asked.

"Well he has dark hair, a bit curly. Above average height, between five foot ten and six foot three. He is of average build for his height. Between one hundred forty pounds and one hundred eighty pounds. He has an IQ over one hundred forty. And that is all I can give you legally." Abby told them.

Something hit Toby in the gut and it wasn't Happy's hand. He bit into his lip trying to keep from saying anything. Happy saw him pulling on the brim of his hat seeing it stretch as he pulled it down further onto his head.

"Fungus?" Happy asked even as her hand reached out and touched his hand.

Toby shook his head as he struggled with his thoughts and feelings. He let go of his hat finally and his hand took hers in it.

"I swear, the Scorpion curse still follows us. No matter what we do, something always goes wrong when Walter is involved in our lives. This is all Paige's fault. If she hadn't gone back to him then his curse wouldn't be affecting us." Toby ranted.

"Do you honestly hear yourself right now? Do you really believe in Walter being cursed?" Happy shook his head.

"Don't you?" Toby shot back.

Happy sighed as she shook her head.

"So from what you said." Happy turned back to Abby. "We might need to speak with our attorney about seeking a court order to find out more about this guy?"

Abby slowly nodded.

"I hope it won't come to that. We are hoping he will receive the letter soon and respond positively on revealing his information. Otherwise our attorneys will have to argue this in court. In which case we will fight for his right to remain anonymous if that is what he wants or we don't hear from him. We screwed up, not him." Abby told her.

Happy nodded.

"Okay, well hopefully it won't come to that. But one nice thing about it. If this is the only pregnancy his donations have been involved in, at least there aren't a bunch of potential half siblings running around." Happy said.

"I can assure you none of his donations before yours has been used for pregnancy. And the one we used for yours was the last of his donations." Abby promised.

Happy frowned as they got in her truck as her phone vibrated. She pulled it out and saw, "Cabe". She quickly hit the icon to answer.

"Hey Cabe." Happy said.

"Hey kid, hope this is a good time." Cabe said.

"Yeah, we're just leaving for CP. What's up?" Happy asked.

"I've got a problem with my SUV. I was transporting a prisoner and dispatch is all apologetic but they say it will be several hours to get someone out to us. I could really use your intellect." Cabe told her.

Happy frowned.

"Sure, where are you?" Happy asked as she turned on the GPS. "Okay, I punched it into the GPS and it looks like it will take about 45 minutes to get to you." Happy told him even as she gestured and Toby took off following the directions.

"You're a lifesaver kid. Thank you so much." Cabe smiled.

"For my roommate, no problem. See you soon." Happy smiled.

"Hey, Happy, can we not tell anyone about this? Please?" Toby asked as he drove up the on ramp to the highway.

"What's wrong with telling our friends?" Happy frowned.

"It was hard enough on me for them to know we did it this way. Now to have them used the wrong donor. It is too much." Toby told her.

Happy had watched Toby as he answered, slowly she nodded.

"That's fine, if it makes you feel better." Happy said as she gently punched his arm.

"Look there he is." Happy said pointing.

"Yes, Happy, I do have eyes." Toby snarked.

Happy growled and Toby just smiled even as he signaled and moved across the road to the north side.

"What are you doing all the way out here on the I-10 by Pomona?" Toby asked as they climbed out of the truck.

"Prisoner transport." Cabe shrugged.

"What's the problem with your SUV?" Happy asked since the hood wasn't up.

"Back seat." Cabe said as he opened the door.

"Dad?! What are you doing here?" Happy said as she saw her Father sitting in the back of the SUV.

"Hey sweetheart. Early release for good behavior." Patrick said as she climbed in and they hugged.

"What's going on?" Toby asked as Cabe closed the door.

"I heard they were letting Patrick out a few months early for good behavior. So I got Katherine to arrange it so that they would let me transfer Patrick to the WitSec program. Figured this way I could give Happy some time before he gets relocated." Cabe told him.

"That's a hell of a thing to do, Cabe." Toby said as he swallowed hard. "Thank you for doing this."

"You're welcome kid." Cabe told him.

"Look at you. Happy, you look so beautiful, just like your Mom. You're going to be a great Mother." Patrick told Happy as he kissed her forehead. "I just wish I could be part of your life but it would be too dangerous for you if they found out about you and your family."

"I wish you could too. I miss you so much." Happy told him. "Do you know anything about where you are going to be?"

"No, I won't find out until I get there. Cabe will drop me off and the US Marshals will take me wherever they set me up at. I don't know what I'm supposed to do for a living since I can't work on cars as part of any cover." Patrick sighed.

"This is so messed up. My kid should be able to know their Grandfather." Happy complained.

"Maybe one day we can meet up someplace on vacation." Patrick smiled.

Happy looked at her watch.

"Promise me, two years from today. You'll meet me at the St Louis arch. That should be far enough away from everyone. In time and distance." Happy told him.

"I promise you that I will be there. All day if need be, I love you. I owe you so much for how I treated you. It would be the least I can do." Patrick looked at his watch and nodded.

Happy stood watching Cabe drive away with her Dad in the back of his SUV. As the SUV finally left her sight her eyes closed and she began crying. Toby stepped up and wrapped his arms around her. Happy's arms reached around him as she clung to him and cried.

Paige frowned as she came out of CP with Walter and saw Happy and Toby. Happy still looked like she had been crying.

"Happy, is everything okay?" Paige asked concerned.

Happy nodded as she smiled.

"My Dad got released a few months early and Cabe snuck him by so we could see each other." Happy told her.

"Oh Happy, that is amazing. Sad that he still has to be in witness protection though." Paige said as they hugged.

"It's a step in the right direction at least." Happy said.

"I'm glad you got to see him Happy. He must be so excited to know he's going to be a Grandfather." Walter told her.

"Just wish he could be part of our family instead of hiding." Happy sighed.

Toby walked on past everyone as they talked and went in to see Sylvester.

"Hey Sly, do me a favor." Toby said.

"What's that?" Sylvester asked cautiously.

"Well two favors. The first one, I need you to promise me that what I'm about to tell you goes no further. Doctor/attorney/friendship confidence." Toby told him.

"Okay, I can promise you that." Sylvester frowned but nodded.

"We just found out that California Cryobank screwed up and used the wrong donor sperm. They say he meets our criteria but won't reveal any other information without a court order or the guy giving them permission." Toby told him.

"Well that shouldn't be too hard." Sylvester said as he watched Happy move on past Walter and Paige as they left for lunch. "Is this going to upset Happy?"

"Why would it? She wants to know too." Toby explained.

Sylvester sighed but quickly pulled up his hacking portal and started working on getting into the company's server.

"I'm going to order a pizza." Happy said as she came in the door.

"Sounds good to me, my little Asian flower." Toby told her sweetly.

Happy paused and looked at him standing by Sylvester's desk.

"What are you up to?" Happy demanded.

"Just doing a little investigating on California Cryobank." Toby grinned.

Happy rolled her eyes.

"Wait, you asked me to not tell anyone they used the wrong donor and the first thing you do is blab to Sylvester?" Happy asked.

"Hey, Sylvester's our friend and attorney. And I don't mind him knowing, just no one else." Toby tried defending his action.

"Paige is our friend too, Toby. I can't believe you." Happy huffed and walked down the hall to her work area.

It took him about forty minutes but Sylvester finally sighed.

"Sorry Toby, everything in the server I am able to access is referenced by a number and no names. And there is no database on the server. Which means, the database has to be on a computer that isn't connected to their network." Sylvester told him.

Toby sighed but thanked him even as they saw the pizza driver pull up.

Greetings! I hope this finds you all well! And there we are...The wheel fell off...now just who is the biological Father? Tune in Wednesday to see if we find out! lol

Railman - LOL I still haven't checked the numbers...But I do promise as long as stories talk to me, I'll write them. But if I was to win a phat sum of money like that. I want to hire a bunch of people wanting to get into the animation side of Hollywood and see about bringing either Knight's Tale or Lady Knight to life as a 3d animation. Yeah...CP ran by Toby or Sly, sounds like catastrophe is imminent. lol Looks like everyone but Toby is fine with working with Walt...

Lucy - So glad you enjoyed it! Poor Sly...

LouBe - Seems there is some kind of switch here...imagine that, who'd have guessed right? lol Ugh...Drew or Merrick...ewww. LOL Paige said it was harder than she thought it would be. *wink* LOL As for Toby and heart felt apologies go...well...that would be telling. *mwahahaha* I dearly miss first season Walter and Toby. I felt they really were friends, close to brothers then.

Guest - Thank you so much!

JerBr23 - Thank you! So glad you are enjoying it! The story didn't talk a lot about Ralph with the pregnancy so I didn't write anything. But I believe you'll know how he feels after the little one has entered the story. I tell you, I'm really running out of ideas on how to reintroduce the thought that Walter is Ralph's Dad. Sometimes I think at the end of a chapter I should just write, check out story X to see how Ralph is Walter's son. lol

-To the Adventure! -Tim
