Chapter Sixty-Seven: The Diaz Break-In
Chantal didn't want to use the wand to open her way into the house. Doesn't know how to use the wand for that without causing some serious damage. And she wants to avoid getting trouble for stealing the wand. So she has to steal her way inside...and she's worried about the consequences. If she wakes up the Diazs or anyone in the house, she's going to get trouble for stealing the wand. If she wakes a neighbor, she could be arrested. And then get in trouble for stealing the wand.
Dang, why did she steal the wand? She should have just asked Star for it! Star probably would have taught her a few things, including a spell that would have allowed her to properly open doors without blowing a hole in the wall.
She kept low to the ground as she started to move around the house, trying to find some way inside. There is a door in the backyard but that's also locked. Chantal doesn't know if there's a home security system active that could alert the entire neighborhood and she doesn't want to try her luck. Chantal sighed as she paced around in the backyard.
What are her options? Could she call Jackie to open the door? Jackie probably could keep the secret regarding the wand but there's a chance that calling her up would wake up Marco and he would find out. Maybe she could hide the wand somewhere in the yard, get someone to allow her back inside, and then retrieve the wand before Star notices it missing? Seems plausible, but there's a chance that someone could steal the wand and that would cause some severe problems.
Man, didn't think this through. She needs to stop being so impulsive.
Chantal's eyes darted around to the top of the house. Maybe she could climb up to the second flight from the outside? Doesn't seem to be anything that she could scale up like a trellis of ivy or anything she could stack up to create a makeshift set of stairs. There is a rain gutter pipe, but it doesn't look sturdy enough for anyone to use. And Chantal doesn't know if she can jump up to the second flight from the ground.
She looked at the wand. There doesn't seem to be any good path to getting out of this that didn't involve something bad happening, but perhaps she could muster up a spell that might be able to get her back inside. Chantla held onto the wand with both hands and stated at it. "Okay..." She sighed out. "Could I use you to float me on up to the second floor?" She asked out loud. It's not like the wand can respond...or it might be able to. It is magical after all.
How does Star use it? She is kinda silly and unfocused, so maybe it's all about thoughts? Just keep it simple. Simple like levitation? Just float on up to the top of the overhang? Chantal licked her lips as she gave the wand a little shake, thinking about herself starting to float. Like a balloon. Just puff up and start lifting up!
The wand started to shine, so Chantal figured that she did something right. She gasped in joy as she could feel her feet starting to leave the solid ground, but something about her felt different. She felt...not just lighter, as expected, but also rounder...
Oh no.
Chantal could feel her skin starting to get really smooth. Her grip on the wand is starting to weaken as she started to float up. Chantal realized quickly that she must have cast a spell that transformed her into a balloon. Great, this is one of those freaky things you see on the internet! Chantal could also feel her head starting to turn all nice and round.
She gasped as her mind quickly raced to try and turn her back into a human, keeping her grip on the wand the best she could. Think human thoughts, think about being human, think about how awesome humans are! Come on! Chantal feel her body filling up with air!
Thankfully, the spell quickly came to an end thanks to her rampant thoughts about humanity. Her body popped back to normal, which is great and all, don't get her wrong. But she's still floating up in the air, and of a good height at that. Chantal flailed her arms around as she tried to find something to grip onto before she started to plummet.
Her free hand gripped onto the overhang, barely digging her fingers into it. Chantal let out a sharp gasp as she hung on for dear life, her legs dangling down. Chantal reached up with her other hand, managing to use the wand as a climbing hook of sorts. Hopefully she doesn't cause any long-lasting damage that will come back to haunt her or the Diazs in the future.
Good thing she's a cheerleader! Out of practice a bit, but she is able to quickly vault herself onto the overhang. Chantal carefully stood up on the balcony, taking good care to test her balance and make sure that her weight won't cause her to fall on through. Felt safe enough, so she started to move towards a window. Don't know where that will take her, but it should take her into the house and then she can walk up to Star's tower...
"Oh Diaz, you cut your chest-hair in the shape of my name!"
"All for you...my little rose..."
The things that Chantal saw are going to haunt her for the rest of her days. This does have the side-effect of making her feel a bit more comfortable about being a lesbian! Chantal stole away from the window to try and climb to a different one. There should be one on the other side of the house. Chantal gulped as she tried to keep her vision to the roof to make sure she can step in the right direction while also trying to avoid falling off the roof.
A car screamed down the road, alerting Chantal and causing her to huddle around the side of house out of fear of being seen. She gritted her teeth as her chest started to heave hard. She's griping so hard on the tiles that she might be able to pull up on the tiles and just enter the house with the hole. Chantal peered around the corner of the house to see if any other cars are coming. Only hearing the sounds of the speeding car, she promptly shot around the corner and darted on over to the window.
Bingo! The bathroom! Easy access point...wait.
...you don't open windows from the outside. That's an obvious point of entry for thieves after all. Chantal groaned as she looked down at the mirror, noticing the distinct lack of any part of the window having a place to put your fingers under. Just flat. Chantal pulled out the wand. Okay, maybe, just maybe...if she focuses on what she needs to have...
She can open the window with some magic.
Okay, just need to stick to the one thing she needs done. The window. The window needs to open. Just imagine a pair of hands opening up the window on the other side. Okay, not some freaky hands like some really-gnarled hands floating around the latch and she's already doing it.
These green hands were at least opening the window up normally. She's getting used to this magic thing, but she really needs to put her mind on magic instead of letting her mind wander. Chantal groaned as she climbed into the window and carefully stepped down onto the floor. Yes! Tile! It felt good to have her feet landing on something solid and cold!
Chantal held onto the wand with a tight grip as she snuck back up into the tower. The house felt so still and quiet! She has gotten away with it! She doesn't feel too proud of what she did and she's hoping that she can freely forget about this and then come up with a small excuse as to why Trevor remained with them longer than expected. And hey, maybe Star will provide one for her without needing to be prompted? Hopefully if Star does summon Glossaryrck, the book won't give her away.
It would suck if the door to the tower was closed for some reason. Chantal closed her eyes as she tried the knob, and thankfully the door opened. And without making much noise too. Chantal really is in the clear.
Now, she did start to rush now that she has gotten to the finish line. Chantal darted on over to the drawer that Star put the wand into, shoved it back inside, and then practically threw herself back onto her resting spot. Felt silly, sure, but she got away with it! Man, now she couldn't stop smiling because of all of the excitement running in her body...
...wow, now she cannot go to sleep. That and the overwhelming guilt for stealing the wand. Don't feel too good about that...
