Jaune's confession of everything had left most of the group ruffled. Blake and Yang had stormed out, Qrow was acting…well odd and Ren and Nora had left as well in order for the latter to calm down, with only Ruby and Weiss remaining by Jaune's side.
Jaune still stared out of the window, he felt like a complete mess. He didn't want things to go down the way they had. He didn't mean to upset Blake or Yang or anyone, that was just how it had inevitably gone down. He knew he couldn't keep the truth hidden for long, eventually it always came out for better or for worse. But in this moment…he truly wished for one thing.
Which was to his greatest surprise, to be with his daughter.
He still had the photo Zemo had given him. Depicting the other Weiss and her, no, their child in it.
Kara Jayne Schnee.
He found the name oddly pretty, not one he would have chosen but he liked it well enough. He supposed he couldn't complain since he wasn't involved in the child's life. Considering he didn't know he had a daughter until an hour ago. The revelation hit him hard, as did the shame of seemingly abandoning his child.
Zemo didn't seem to hold it against him, as Jaune didn't know about her. But now that he did know he felt it was required that Jaune was a part of the child's life, a fact that the young Huntsmen couldn't argue with. This was his child…it was his responsibility.
Part of him wanted nothing more then to be a part of her life, to raise her despite how impossible it may seem. In spite of the fact he had fathered her with an alternate version of the girl he has had a crush on for years, which undoubtedly would complicate everything.
The other part of him still worried that this might be part of an elaborate trap to lure him out. Zemo might be genuine in his efforts but Jaune still had to remember he was part of the Collective, an organization he had openly defied with all the consequences that followed.
"Jaune?" he heard a soft voice call.
He turned around to see Ruby standing there "if you need some time alone I understand" she said. Jaune nodded and pulled Ruby into a grateful embrace "thank you Rubes you're the best just give me a while please."
Ruby gave him an understanding nod before turning around and walking towards the exit of the room. She gestured to a silent Weiss to follow her, but the former heiress only gestured at her, with one that implied she would follow her shortly. With some uncertainty Ruby turned the corner, leaving Jaune and Weiss alone.
Jaune looked at Weiss but kept his head down, unwilling to face her.
Her reaction to everything had been understandable. It's not everyday that you hear the guy you rejected multiple times in school had sex with an alternate version of yourself that resulted in a child.
"Jaune" Weiss softly spoke up. The young Huntsmen looked up and saw as she walked over towards him.
"I wanna know. What was she like? The other me I mean?" she asked.
Jaune was caught of guard by her question. He never thought Weiss would be so keen on learning about her other self, especially considering the context of what happened between Jaune and her.
Jaune swallowed deeply before speaking.
"She was…like a whirlwind of passion. Like you she had a strong resolve and wouldn't back down…" Weiss listened carefully to everything he was saying "apparently her and me from her world where a thing as far back as Beacon."
"Really?" Weiss asked curiously.
Jaune nodded "yeah…apparently he passed away long ago so when I suddenly arrived there…she considered a miracle. It felt weird being with her you know, considering how I…well I felt about you and all."
Weiss didn't reply to that statement. Her head in clear thought.
"Everything just went so fast. Everything with her, but she just seemed so happy that I was there. Like all her time was spend on her duties and she had no place in her heart for anything like love and now…I don't know Weiss I can't explain it."
"It's okay," she said as she placed her hand on his shoulder "I'm not mad at you. You were in an unfamiliar world and she at least seemed to keep you safe."
"She did."
Weiss silently looked into Jaune's eyes, seeing for the first time what seemed like a genuineness in them. She never paid much attention to him before, she thought of him as an annoying nuisance trying to win her attention and failing every single time. But right now looking at him she felt something…different.
"You know," Jaune started "her dad…he wasn't in the picture anymore. Thanos, the leader of the Collective…he…he killed him and took her in as his own daughter."
"Oh" was all Weiss could mutter out. Her father was a monster, a vile domineering and controlling tyrant. And she had spend many nights wishing someone would come and take that vile monster, who dishonored her entire family name as well as the legacy of her grandfather Nicolas, away from her life. She never expected in another world that would actually be the case.
"This Thanos…what was he like. You said he was worse than Salem."
Jaune sighed and took a few steps towards the window "he was terrifying. Both in just his sheer powerful appearance and motivations. Weiss…he talked about bringing balance by means of eliminating half of all life in not just his world…but….but every world out there."
Weiss stepped backwards as those words where uttered.
"He's completely crazy. But worst of all he's powerful, he has control over not just a powerful organization composed of people from different worlds but also all their resources, their armies. I know this may sound crazy but…compared to him, Salem seems like child's play."
Weiss stepped forward and placed both her hands on Jaune's face.
"Let's not worry about him now Jaune. Let's focus on things we can do something about, like this situation with…your daughter. What are you going to do?"
That was the question that still haunted in Jaune's head. Should he accept the offer or not.
"I don't know…I want to but, what if this is all a set up. I'd be walking right into it."
Weiss nodded silently before asking "may I see that?" referring to the photo in Jaune's hand. Albeit hesitantly Jaune eventually handed the photo to Weiss. As she looked at it, she immediately noticed seeing herself. Or rather the other version of herself, she didn't have a scar, and she was smiling brightly alongside the child by her side. She could immediately see herself in the child, the same blue eyes as her. She didn't know how to feel seeing the photo, this child wasn't hers, yet somehow it still felt as such…she looked so much like her, with the hair a mixture of her and Jaune's. But it wasn't hers, yet why did it feel so…familiar.
"What if….what if I go with you?" Weiss asked nervously.
Location: The Garden
A big pile of corn was put into a large bucket and carried away by a massive purple hand belonging to the Collective's leader, the Mad Titan, Thanos.
As he reached the end of the cornfields, the Mad Titan saw the striking and unmistakable form of his most loyal lieutenant with his distinct otherworldly appearance of vines covering him. He was hunched over with a bow.
"My Lord Titan. My apologies for disturbing you but I have some news to share with you?" Vecna spoke up calmly. His leader put the bucket full of corn on the ground and looked at his subordinate with a neutral expression.
"What is the news Henry?" he asked.
Vecna stood up completely looking straight at his leader "it is about that boy Schnee fancies. Apparently Zemo has contacted him to inform his about the child."
Thanos raised his eyebrow "I'm still waiting for the news Henry. Since I am already well aware of that." Vecna looked up in shock and staggered backwards slightly "you are?" he asked in surprise.
"Indeed," Thanos stared crossing his massive muscular arms "Helmut came to me and told me about his intentions and asked for my permission to proceed. Which I granted."
"My apologies my Lord Titan…I had no idea. I do not mean to question your judgement in anyway."
"Then don't," Thanos interrupted with a clear forceful tone, causing Vecna to immediately go quiet "that boy can still be of use to us. After all it was thanks to him that my dear daughter managed to achieve her full potential, and lest we forget, thanks to him we managed to get rid of a potential problem in Adam."
Vecna nodded "yes my Lord Titan. I understand."
Thanos grabbed the bucket from the ground, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his remaining hand.
"Proceed with your normal duties Henry. But remember, no harm will come to that boy, he can be very useful to us. We might need him in finding the thing we could need in order to defeat the one who has bested us. You remember that night don't you."
Vecna nodded in response. He remembered that night, everyone remembered that night.
"Besides," Thanos nodded "that boy is the father of my granddaughter. That counts for something and he deserves to be a part of her life."
With that Thanos walked over towards the farm, the sun shining brightly and beautifully over his peaceful home.
