When they realized the crying voice was beneath them, they darted down the stairs and searched for the entrance. Fortunately, they saw a hole in the wall on the third story, though it was blocked by a giant pig statue adorned in armor. In fact, there were several of those statues surrounding the pyramid.
"Link, up here!" Kagome called from the next platform up. "I found a way to reach it." She said, and once he fled up the stairs to join her, she pointed a feathered wing to the open ledge. "If we jump down, we'll land right in front of the entrance."
They wasted no time jumping down, but the moment they stepped inside, they were greeted by a darker interior. Two torches lit the chamber, revealing enormous and unidentifiable skulls perched upon six stone pedestals. Two separate iron ball creatures, chained to the wall ahead, roamed the area, their spiked mouths and demonic eyes a true terror to see.
Whatever those things were, they didn't look friendly. But they weren't the only ones within this room. There was another individual, adorned in a green tunic with brown trousers, and no surprise, it wasn't a human. It was an orange fox with golden eyes, and it stood on two legs as it watched them.
"Oh, newcomers, eh? You did well to get this far," He said, leaning against one of the pedestals to his right. "Unfortunately for you two, there's nothing waiting for you here. If you came looking for the Golden Power, then you're out of luck. Someone already stole it."
Golden Power? What was he referring to? "We're looking for princess Zelda," Link said, growling through his teeth. "Where is she?"
"A princess you say? Haven't seen one. If that's all you came looking for, then you're out of luck. This is my turf, you see? I found it first, now get lost."
Kagome narrowed her eyes at the fox. "We heard her crying! You can't fool us!"
He scoffed. "The only fools I see are you two. You got a lot of nerve accusing me of kidnapping some broad I never met... but I'll let it pass since there must be some misunderstanding," He said and pointed his finger toward the left wall. "If it's crying you hear, then it's on the other side of this pyramid, and it's definitely not a princess either," He said. "Tell her to keep it down, will you?"
After revealing this piece of information, he dismissed them with a wave of his hand, and confused by the situation, they stepped outside. With no other option but to jump down the last two levels and climb back to the top, they eventually found another hole in the structure on the far left.
When they entered, they were greeted by another pair of torches, these ones made from white marble. Although the room was much smaller than the previous one, they noticed a sparkling spring situated at the farthest edge of the room, surrounded by cherub pillars.
Seated in the middle of that clear water, with her arms wrapped around her knees and crying, was a young woman. But it wasn't Zelda, that much Link was sure, because this woman had translucent fairy wings on her back and wore a glittering green gown of vines and roses.
"Are you perhaps... the Great Fairy?" Link asked, unsure if he could really believe his eyes. So, the rumors were true?
