As the weeks went by, Nava's physical shape began to get better and better. Truth be told; he was healing quite quickly for a wolfdog with his injuries. While he would certainly be riddled with scars, something he didn't seem bothered by, he was now able to walk around without struggle. Aniu and her mate's sled team had since left town after capturing Steele, who seemed like he would no longer be a point of concern for Balto's family. As for Aleu, well, she simply went to the vet's office, where Nava was staying, and visited him constantly.

This was one of those times, Aleu was happily trotting down the street, with a noticeable spring in her step. The only times the wolfdog chose to slow down was when a human patted her a couple times on the head, but none of the dogs have bothered her yet. It was early morning with very little sunlight out, barely illuminating the snow she walked on. So many of the dogs were sleeping in, while very few people walked around as well, which was fine by the female wolfdog.

"Hey Aleu!" The wolfdog came to a full stop as her brother, Kodiak, caught up to her. "What are you doing up so early, Kodi?" Aleu asked. Both canines' tails started wagging furiously as the two smelled at each other; of the six pups, Aleu and Kodi felt the most bonded to each other. Any opportunity the two were given, to spend time with the other, they often took it in a heartbeat. "I can be asking the same thing, sis. So You answer first, and I might tell you what I'm doing up so early," Kodi grinned, a thought of his was already swirling around in his head.

"You said you might tell me if I told you, what are you playing at, Kodi?" Aleu asked before a mischievous grin pulled its way onto her face. "You're going out to visit that pretty husky on your sled team in training, aren't you?" Aleu teased. "W-what are you talking about? I'm not going to see Dusty, err, ignore that I said that!" Kodi said, ready to bury his face in the snow. "So her name is Dusty, huh?" Aleu asked with an even bigger grin. "N-no! I haven't even spoken with her yet!" Kodi almost yelped. "Oh hey there, Kodi!" Aleu could feel her brother's brain turn into mush.

A gray, female husky padded over to where the two siblings were talking. The husky's coat shined and gleamed in the morning sunlight; it was stunning. She was quite the pretty husky, but was clearly about a year or so old; she wasn't that much older than Aleu or Kodi at all. She wore a sled harness, much like Kodi did, and looked very fit. Her underbelly was white, and almost resemble Aleu if Aleu wasn't part wolf. The thing that struck out was her eyes. They were cerulean, big, and full of wonder. In other words, the husky was very attractive, and very attractive. This was the legendary Dusty, in other words: Kodi's crush.

"H-hey Dust-Dusty," Kodiak stuttered. "Oh come on, Kodi, are you embarrassed to have your sister find out about us?" Dusty teased as she rubbed up into her boyfriend's chest. If Kodi wasn't already having a meltdown, then he'd crumple immediately. "So you two are dating?" Aleu's grin broke into a full on smile. The wolfdog then licked her brother's cheek, his yellow eyes widened with embarrassment. "Yes we are, this big goof finally managed to ask me out on a date. I've got to say, he's very loveable," Dusty said. Kodi instinctively embraced his girlfriend, which made the husky sign in contempt.

"Kodi! This is awesome! You got the girl of your dreams!" Aleu said, while Kodi shook his head to regain his composure. "Y-yeah, I'm surprised that Dusty said yes to our date last night… I was going to show her the polar ice caps today, which was why I was out so early," Kodi said with a small smile on his face. "Of course I'd agree. Not only are you the son of a legend, but you're gorgeous, dear," Dusty said. This made Kodi smile in a more wolfish way. "Ah shucks, Dusty! Are you trying to embarass me even more in front of Aleu?"

"Well, you already succeeded at that, Kodi. Well, since I know why you are up so early… I guess I will tell you why I'm walking so early," Aleu had a small smile on her face. "I was going to check in on Nava again. Mostly to check in on how he's healing and…" Aleu paused as Kodi began to grin. "I think you've got a crush, and I think Nava does too," the wolfdog grinned as did his girlfriend. "Well… if I got to be his mate, I wouldn't complain. Most of the males in this town treat me and the rest of our sisters like trophies, and Nava doesn't," Aleu had a thoughtful expression on her face. "I hear you, I think you and Kodi's sister almost snapped at some guy because he kept trying to court her over the course of a day," Dusty said with an annoyed grin. "I cannot imagine being seen as a prize," she added.

"Well… you," Kodi stopped when his girlfriend glared at him. "Yes, I know many, many males find me very attractive. But none of them treat me like a prize… yet. Don't tell me you see me as a trophy, Kodiak," Dusty glared. "Well, it is an honor to be a potential mate of yours… and I do highly cherish having a relationship with you," Kodi almost whispered, but both females could hear him. "Well, as long as you treat me like I'm your girlfriend, and not a trophy then I won't complain," Dusty said, before planting a kiss on her boyfriend's cheek. Almost immediately, Kodi crumpled to the ground, eyes wide and mouth hanging wide open. "Dusty, please don't kill my brother with love," Aleu said. "Well, alright. No promises though," Dusty giggled as she tried helping the poor wolfdog up.

Aleu decided it would be best to let her brother have fun on his date, so she began to trot off from the pair. One thing she had to admit about Nome, despite how desolate the surrounding area is, is how quiet and comforting the town truly was early in the morning and late at night. There was next to nobody to bug her while she was out and about.

As soon as Aleu padded up the vet's office' porch steps, the wolf dog's eyes roamed around the deck, and onto a dog beg. The dog… wolf? Wolf dog occupying the bed had her attention, the black wolf simply laid in the bed with a small smile on his face, fast asleep. Nava's back rose and fell slowly as the canine was kept within his peaceful slumber. Something like this wasn't possible a few short weeks ago, as he was so injured that even breathing hurt for the poor fellow. But now, seeing the wolfdog being able to sleep(with seemingly no nightmares) made Aleu smile with pride.

The female then tiptoed over to the sleeping wolf, then curled up next to him, while making sure not to disturb any scars of his. Admittedly, Nava made for quite a nice pillow, as he was a heavy sleeper(which was odd since he was a wild wolfdog), so one could lie their head on his stomach and be completely unbothered. Today seemed to be the exception, since Nava's eyes shot open as soon as he felt pressure on his stomach. He half-growled half-yawned and lifted his head off the edge of his dog bed. "Aleu, what are you doing?" Nava asked, with a small smile on his face.

"Hush, I woke up very early to try and get here before you woke up. So please, please lay your head back down and go to sleep. Since you won't be moving any time soon," Aleu said, refusing to lift her head off of her friend's stomach. "Are you sure about that? Because I can get up at any time. Even with your heavy head resting on my shoulder," Nava paused when Aleu positioned her head to look into his eyes. "And all of a sudden, I don't want to get up," Nava said warmingly, curling his body around the female and letting out a yawn. "You're lucky you're good at pulling puppy eyes," Nava said.

"And I'm lucky that you're a sucker for them!" Aleu said as she curled up deeper into her friend's form. "You know, if you want to have free reign when it comes to cuddling with me, then you and I can become a thing," Nava said out of nowhere. "W-what? Nava, you can't just casually say that!" Aleu's head shot up upon hearing his words. "Why not?" The wolfdog tilted his head. "Well… I guess I wouldn't mind us being a couple. Just that's not something you say so calmly," Aleu said. "Well, if I were to say it like a nervous wreck, would it make you want to date me?" The male asked. Aleu's eyes squinted as she began to think about it.

"Well, it'd make you look adorable, so I wouldn't be able to resist," Aleu said. "Good, because you made my brain skip a beat when you laid your head on my side," Nava said before dropping the confident look on his face for one that showed his true emotions: nervousness and hope. "So, when do you… want to head out? You know, chase sticks by the beach," Nava asked. "When I don't have to fear that your wounds aren't entirely healed. So you best rest, mister, and I will be right here making sure you follow the vet's orders," Aleu said.

Nava laughed and laid his head over Aleu's. "I suppose now I get to know what it's like to have an overprotective girlfriend," the wolfdog grinned. "You bet your butt that I'll be taking care of you while you're like this," Aleu said before drifting off into sleep. The male wolfdog took a moment to process what had just happened; he had a girlfriend! Not only that, but a very pretty one. Surely, he must've died while fighting that bear… or is lying dead in a bush. "Because there is no way a wolfdog as beautiful as this would be okay with me dating her," Nava thought as he began to groom his sleeping girlfriend.

"I'm going to enjoy every single second of this," Nava whispered as he happily listened to Aleu's snoring. As for Aleu, well, she might not have found her purpose in life, but now she won't be alone in finding it.

Balto laid down beside Jenna, now with the now permanent absence of Steele, the wolfdog could finally take a moment to sit down and breathe. And most importantly? He gets to spend the rest of his life watching his pups grow up, have pups of their own, and he gets to do so with such a beautiful mate at his side. "So Balto, now that you've been able to catch up with your mother, how are you feeling?" Jenna asks. "Like I can fly," Balto sighed as his mate rested her head on his neck. "So, how do you think your mother will be dealing with Steele?" Jenna asks.

"Well, Steele is likely driving my Mom and Dad up the wall…"

I sat patiently and watched as my mate wrestled our new dog to the ground, who had just tried to rip my throat out. My muzzle was scrunched up in anger, but it quickly subsided once Steele was apprehended. "My dear, why can't dogs be like you? Just pushovers that want cuddles, a nice human, and a pretty mate?" I ask, shaking my head. "Well, Steele here really isn't like most dogs… he did think it'd be wise to harass a pup that was only a year younger than him… for two years straight," Rai turned towards the larger malamute he had expertly pinned down. "You call your pathetic offspring a pup? That little mongrel is a freak! I was doing him a favor by reminding him of his place!" Steele snarled, trying to snap at the dog pinning him to the ground.

"If we accidentally lose you in a blizzard, just know Aniu and I won't be turning back for you… by the way, our musher decided to stick you in the back, as far from Aniu and I as possible," Rai then stood up and off the downed malamute. "Also, strike at my mate again, and I can guarantee that you will not be having pups," the husky said before going over to curl up into his mate's side again. "I hope you die in a-" Steele was cut off by an airplane flying overhead. "What the? What was that?" Rai and Aniu simply sat, watching the plane flying overhead. "It's heading for Nome," the wolf said before laying her head down.

alright so. i did say i had a lot in store... and by that i mean that at some point i plan on rewriting wings of change. while wings of change isn't as shit as wolf quest, there are a few thing i wanna change.

for instance, Boris's subplot. it's dumb and takes screen time up. second, the pilot(i kinda forgot his name, read further for why) lacks a personality. sure, he's a good guy and is passionate about flying... but that's it.

so i'm replacing the boris subplot with... well, a subplot revolving around Aleu and her boyfriend, rewriting the pilot's name, add some Kodi-Balto bond moments and change up the last few scenes in the movie. since they ended up being pretty predictable.

also i know this was a littlecut short, but sequels exists for a reason. so why not indulge in some of the things i set up for the set up. also gonna add some kodi/dusty bonding moments because why not.

anyways, thank you for reading my rewrite(as shit as it was).
