The next morning, Sydney woke up feeling confident and determined. Today would be the day she would put Regina in her place once and for all. She got up and took a nice long hot shower, washing up with Gage's favorite body wash. She loved when she smelled like him. It helped her get through her day knowing she had a little piece of him with her.
Sydney got dressed and headed downstairs. Gage was in the kitchen, placing bowls of cereal in front of Andie and Chris. He ruffled Chris's hair and kissed Andie on the top of her head. He smiled at each other their children, looking at them as if they were as precious as gold. He then took a much larger bowl of cereal and joined them at the table.
Sydney just watched the man she loved as he embraced and ate with their children. How in the world did she get so lucky to have this strong, handsome, loving man in her life? What had she done to deserve him? She must've been truly good in a previous life.
A sound came from behind Sydney and she turned to see Julien coming into the kitchen with his cane. She went to his side.
"Let me help you," Sydney said.
"Thanks Syd."
"I have it Sydney," Regina said as she came all too quickly to Julien's side. She brushed Sydney's hand away and placed her own hand under Julien's arm.
"Okay," Sydney said, throwing up her hands and walking into the kitchen. She went to the coffee pot and poured herself a cup. She then took a seat next to her own husband and kissed his cheek.
"Mama, Daddy got us breakfast!" Andie exclaimed.
"I see. I also see that Daddy's bowl is much bigger than yours," Sydney said, poking fun at her husband.
"Hey I need to keep my strength up. Being a Ranger isn't an easy job, ya know," Gage said as he smiled.
"Seems to be a rather dangerous job," Regina quipped.
"It might be but it's a job we love," Sydney said.
"People with children shouldn't have such dangerous jobs. What about the children?" Regina asked.
"Our kids are fine. They are loved and well cared for when we are working," Sydney snapped.
"Yeah until one of you doesn't come home."
"Listen here..." Sydney started but Gage stopped her.
"Can we talk about something else?" he asked.
"Sorry Francis," Regina said.
"It's Gage Regina."
"I'm sure it is."
"Okay, shall we get these guys off to Josie so we can get to work?" Gage asked, avoiding Regina. It didn't go unnoticed by Julien.
"Let's go guys," Sydney said as she ushered the kids to the front door. Gage put the bowls in the dishwasher, bid goodbye to his brother and followed his wife out the door. Julien turned to Regina when they were alone.
"He doesn't like to be called Francis and I've told you that before."
"Its his name. Why wouldn't someone be called by their name?"
"Gina, he just doesn't like it."
"I don't see why you like being around these people so much anyways."
"They are my family."
"So aren't Bryson and I. We are your true family, next to Alan and Nina."
"My parents are perfectly fine with my choice to remain in Dallas with my brother."
"I'm sure they would love it more if you returned home."
"Can we talk about something else?"
"Of course dear," Regina said, getting herself a cup of coffee and wrinkling her nose at Sydney's choice of china.
It was shortly before 11:30 when Sydney's phone rang at her desk. Gage looked around for his wife but didn't see her anywhere. So he reached over and picked up her phone.
"Ranger Cooke's desk?"
"Mr. Gage? This is Rebecca from Dr. Dixon's office."
"Dr. Dixon?"
"Yes, I was looking for Mrs. Gage?"
"She's not here at the moment, but can I help you?"
"Dr. Dixon got in Mrs. Gage's test results."
"Test results?"
"Yes."
Gage listened for a few more minutes before hanging up the phone and dashing out the door to look for his wife.
Sydney was in the gym, prepping for her fight. She knew she was gonna win this, hands down. There's no way that Regina's yogalates were any match for Walker's martial arts training. She left the locker room to find Regina standing in the middle of the gym.
"You're early," Sydney said.
"Time to get this over with. We need to be heading back to Oklahoma."
"Not gonna happen."
"It will when I wipe the floor with you."
"Not gonna happen," Sydney said again as she cracked her knuckles. She walked towards Regina and stood in front of her.
"Are you going to wear that?" Regina asked.
"It's workout clothes. What else would I wear?"
"Sorry, I don't usually look like a homeless person when I work out," Regina said in a snide tone.
"Well we should all be so lucky," Sydney replied sarcastically.
"Shall we begin?"
"It's now or never."
Reigna and Sydney began to circle each other but before any punches could be tossed, Gage came running into the gym.
"Syd! Stop!"
"Gage, what's wrong? Is it Andie or Chris?" Sydney asked, running frantically to her husband.
"You can't do this fight."
"Why the hell not?"
"Dr. Dixon's office just called."
"Oh."
"Why didn't you tell me you went to see her?"
"I didn't want to bother you with this."
"I'm your husband. Its not a bother. You're my wife."
"I know," Sydney said, looking at her feet.
"We need to tell each other everything. That's how a marriage will work."
"I know. What did the doctor say?"
Gage leaned in close and whispered in his wife's ear. Sydney listened to the news and nodded her head. Then she walked over to Regina.
"I'm not fighting you."
"Then you forfeit. You know what you need to do."
"I won't. I can't."
"We had a deal. Now just because you're not woman enough to live up to your end, doesn't mean its over."
"Excuse me?" Sydney asked, stunned at what this woman had just said to her.
"What the hell is going on here?" a voice came from the door. Walker stood there with Julien. Walker came over to Sydney and looked at her.
"Walker, I'm so sorry."
"Gina, what the hell are you doing?" Julien asked, limping towards his wife.
"This little Mexican barbie thinks she is woman enough to kick my ass. So we bet on it. She's not living up to her end of the deal so she loses."
"Mexican barbie?" Sydney exclaimed, turning towards Regina.
"Obviously you're not equipped to be Julien's partner since you couldn't even watch his six."
"I did everything I could."
"Not enough. If you had done everything, he wouldn't be hurt."
"And you think it was any better being with you? The man traveled across state lines to get away from you."
"You'll pay for that you little bitch," Regina said as she brought her hand back to punch Sydney. Julien grabbed Regina's arm.
"This is enough. It's not Sydney's fault that I'm hurt. She did everything she could to help me. She radioed for help and followed after me to help me get away from the people who took me. It's also not her fault that I stayed in Dallas, that was my choice. I'm a grown man who can make his own choices. It was also your choice for us to separate and divorce. Finally, I am not attracted to Sydney in any way. She is my brother's wife and nothing means more to me than the sanctity of marriage. I believe in the vows that people take during their weddings."
"Julien, can't you see that these people are brainwashing you? You don't belong here, you belong with me."
"Maybe I did once, but now I can see you for what you truly are. I will always love you Gina, because you gave me my son and I will always be grateful for that. But we clearly have grown apart over the years and I need to stand on my own two feet. So do you."
"Julien you can't be serious," Regina said.
"I am. You have embarrassed me, embarrassed Sydney and yourself at our place of employment. It's time for you to head back to Oklahoma. You'll be getting paperwork from my lawyer about our divorce and for custody. Goodbye Regina."
It was the first time in 15 years that Julien had called her Regina. That meant it was truly over between them. Regina tossed her head back as she walked past all of them.
"You'll be sorry Julien, you won't find someone else like me.
"Thank God for that," Sydney said. Gage just looked at her and Sydney shrugged. Regina walked out the door and Julien turned to Sydney.
"I am so sorry you guys had to deal with her. She never used to be like that."
"It is what it is. We only want the best for you," Sydney said. Gage cleared his throat.
"Syd?"
"What?"
"The doctor?"
"Oh yeah!"
"What about the doctor?" Walker asked as it seemed like all their friends joined them. Alex, Erika and Jimmy stood next to them.
"I stopped by the doctor yesterday afternoon."
"What did the doctor say?" Alex asked, getting giddy.
"Gage?"
"Dr. Dixon called to say that Sydney's test was positive."
"I'm pregnant!" Sydney exclaimed and the ladies swarmed her. Jimmy and Walker shook Gage's hand.
"There's more," Gage said.
"There's more?" Sydney asked, looking at her husband.
"You're pregnant alright, like super pregnant."
"What does that mean Gage?"
"Syd, we are having twins."
AN: Thanks for reading the 4th installment in my Sydney & Gage stories. I debated on how I wanted to end this one but if you know me, I had to throw a curveball at ya! I'm not sure if this will be the last story or if I should keep it going. But thanks for reading my stories!
Stay salty, KLC
