Chapter 56

Edward's stomach fluttered with nervous butterflies as Bella led him inside by the hand. He had a thousand questions flying around in his mind, all of them linked to Alice's vision earlier in the day, but his nerves hindered him from focusing on one at a time and rendered him speechless instead.

Bella giggled as he shut the front door behind them. "Your heart is hammering as if you're the victim in a horror movie." She placed both her hands on his chest and the feel of his pulse intensified the sound. "Are you okay?"

"I-I don't … I mean, uhm, do you..."

"Do I what?" she asked as she started to actually feel worried. Edward was usually so eloquent with his speech and hearing him struggle made her wonder what was on his mind.

He took a deep breath to calm down, and then finally got the words out. "What you said outside, do you intend for us to fulfill Alice's vision now?"

"Oh." It clicked why he was so nervous and she found it adorable, but it also reminded her that Edward was just as inexperienced as she was, and his body had betrayed him constantly during the day, so it was no wonder he felt what he did. She cupped his blazing red cheek and gave him a reassuring smile. "I would lie if I said it hasn't been on my mind on and off today. I guess you could say tonight would be a perfect opportunity to try some things since we're actually alone, but if you're not ready or don't want to, that's fine. I'm not gonna force myself on you."

"No, I didn't think you would either," he hurried to say. "I just think there's a conversation we need to have first."

They went into the living room and sat down on the couch, but before he could say anything, Bella spoke up.

"Is this about your innate aversion to premarital sex?" He blinked at her in surprise and she tapped her temple. "She's got the same aversion to it, but can I ask you something?"

"Of course."

"Why?" He pinched his brows together in confusion and she elaborated. "Why are you against it? Is it because of faith? Because if it's not, I don't understand it. If we'd both been human back in your time, it makes sense, but that's not our situation now. So what is it?"
