A/N:
I hope you've had a better Monday than my stepfather. It started well, but ended with a broken car, so yeah … O-o

Chapter 57
"I wouldn't say it's faith. You know I believe in God, but that's where my faith ends. I'm not like Carlisle in that aspect." He grimaced in amusement as he allowed himself to really consider Bella's question. "You know, I've never really given it much thought. It's the way I was raised, and I know it's considered an old-fashioned value today, but knowing that the only person you share yourself with is the one you've vowed to stay with until the end makes the act more special in my mind. That there's only one person in the entire world who knows you that intimately."
Bella nodded and slid herself closer to him on the couch to hold his hand. "I agree with all of that. It's a very romantic thought, and I feel the same except I don't think marriage is a must." She traced her fingertips across his palm much like she had done the first time they went to their meadow, and as he'd done then, he closed his eyes and just enjoyed the sensation of her touch. "I told you that, for me, love and lust are interwoven. I could never share myself with a person I don't love, so we're not so different, you and I."
Edward smiled and opened his eyes to look into hers. "True, but human love is fickle. Through one lifetime, you can love more than one person. Marriage is a union for life." He was mesmerized by her and didn't consciously decide to lean closer, but they were soon almost kissing. Barely half an inch of air separated them and he could feel her breath on his lips as a soft laugh escaped her.
"Marriage is just as fickle as love and has never stopped people from lusting for another." She lightly pressed her lips against his for a short second before leaning back again. "How lucky for us that we know our love will last for longer than one lifetime even before we say 'I do'."
A strong surge of excitement shot through Edward's core and he inhaled sharply while truly leaning away from her to make certain he'd heard her correctly. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?"
She let go of his hand and hers landed on his knee, which invited another sort of rush to travel through his body. "I depends on what you think I'm saying."
"Will you want to become my wife one day?"
There was a short moment when a glimmer of distaste shone in her eyes, but it was gone as fast as he could detect it because then her entire expression softened. "I know it will happen eventually because it's clearly important to you and what you want. All I want is to be with you."
Edward didn't know if Bella fully understood what a monumental moment it was for him to hear her consent to their future as husband and wife. The feeling of overjoyed happiness overwhelmed him and the only response he had was to immediately kiss her and hoping she could sense the tiniest amount of his love for her through their connection.
A/N:
I want to underline here that this is the first time they've talked about marriage. None of that discussion at the end of New Moon or in Eclipse has happened, so there's no negotiation of terms or anything like that.
The only reason Bella is so calm about it now without the benefit of being used to discussing the topic with Edward is because with their improvement in communication, they have more respect for each other and she knows that if the constitution is important to him, she'll do it for him and place her own insecurities aside. She knows she'll be with him forever no matter what, so the fear of marriage honestly never made sense to me in the books. Physically freezing your body to be with one man that you've known for about 18 months is one hell of a much more serious commitment in my book xD
But I'm ranting, so I'll leave it here and I'll see you Wednesday!
Stay Awesome!
