Eddie's p.o.v.
A few days passed since my very well made speech. I'm doing my best to avoid Helena and feeling quite stupid in the process but I need to get her out of my mind. Is it working? No, not at all actually. On the other hand, Harrington is using my absence quite well. And THAT bugs the shit out of me.
"I think I'm making progress.", he tells, placing his legs up the window, his arms under his head.
"You're delusional.", Erika tells him.
He makes a face, "You don't know... a lot of things that happened."
I look at him but don't say anything. He's shitting. Is he?
"What happened? She gave you the responsibility of holding her notebook? Wow, such progress.", Erika comment while Mike and Dustin laugh.
"What about you, Eddie? Gave up already?", Harrington asks, looking at me.
"Yes.", I say.
"Seriously Eddie, what's going on? You've been in such a good mood these last few days.", Dustin says.
"I'm fine."
Helena peaks her head inside, "I need some help."
Steve almost knocks me out of my chair by how fast he stood up, "At your service, m'lady."
"What can we do?", Mike and Dustin stand up as well.
Her eyes land on me but I look away.
"Follow me, I will explain.", she tells and they all leave.
"You are committing suicide, you do realize that?", Erika tells, sitting next to me.
"I don't care.", I say.
She makes a face, "Bullshit."
I look at her, "You're thirteen, Erika. What kind of advice can you give me?"
She crosses her arms, "I have a higher IQ than all of the people that where in this room a minute ago."
"I will light a candle the day you get married. For the man, of course.", I comment.
She blinks slowly, "I understood the reference, Munson. So, are you going to tell me why are you dragging your vagina around these days or do I have to beat the words out of you?"
I sigh, rubbing my face. Am I seriously going to have this conversation with a child?
"Come on man, I don't have all day.", she tells, looking at her watch.
"I like her... a lot.", I say.
"No shit."
"But I realize I have no chance."
"No shit."
I frown, "Seriously?"
"Listen here Munson. Do I think that she's way of out your league? Yes. But, between you and Harrington, I would choose you.", he tells and I look at her.
"Seriously?"
"No.", she replays coldly.
I stand up, realizing this conversation isn't going anywhere, "Okay, I'm done."
"As in, if I was her. Because she obviously, for some unknown reason to me, likes you.", she tells me and I stop walking, "How the hell do you know that?"
"It's obvious, dumbass.", she tells in a matter of fact voice.
"And the moment you stop this self-pity bullshit, you will see it too.", she continues.
"And right now, Harrington is way ahead of you so...", she tells, looking out of the window.
"She has a doctorate and I flunked...twice. I don't even have my diploma.", I say, looking at Helena smiling at something Steve told her.
"Maybe this is your chance to learn something and stop being a complete failure. besides, you're competing against a guy who's working in a video store."
Well, she's right.
I start walking towards them and look at Erika, "If I fail and make a fool out of myself, I'm hunting you down."
She rolls her eyes and follows me, "Whatever."
"So, I need someone to go and help me with the demobat.", I hear her say.
"I can do that.", I speak and they all turn towards me.
After a few seconds, she smiles, "Great."
"Do you need backup?", Harrington asks, looking at us.
"We'll be fine.", I say, smirking at him.
"Let's go.", she tells, taking her backpack and a cage.
We walk in silence for a while before I decide to speak, "I'm sorry for calling you slow."
She smiles and looks at me, "It's okay. I'm just glad you decided to leave the garage."
"Yea, that's thanks to Erika.", I say.
"She sure is something.", Helena comments.
"So, we're... defiantly okay?", I ask, looking at her.
She stops walking, places the cage on the ground and puts her palms on my face, "We're okay. Don't worry."
Without thinking it trough, I wrap my hand around her waist, pushing her closer to me and kiss her. Her hands move away from my face and she doesn't react. In that moment I start to realize that maybe this wasn't a good idea but suddenly, her palms are on my face again and she depends the kiss, pushing her tongue into my mouth. I feel relief and instantly smile as we continue to kiss, my other hand traveling up her back.
"Found them!"
Erika's voice makes us break away. We look at her and she's standing a few feet away from us, her hands crossed, her head tilted and a smile painted across her face.
"There they are!", Dustin speaks, walking towards us.
"We said we can manage on our own.", I say irritated and Helena smiles a little, picking up the cage again.
"Joyce made us come after you. She and Hopper believe you need backup.", Robin explains.
"Are you okay?", Nancy asks Helena, looking at her.
"What? Why?"
"Your face is red.", she informs her.
"Oh, I'm just... hot.", she tells her with a smile.
"I bet you are.", Erika comments with a smirk and I give her a dirty look.
"Let's catch some bats!", Dustin tells in excitement and we continue our walk.
"So, what's the plan exactly?", I ask Helena as we walk close to each other.
"Well, if you where present on our meeting, you would know.", Harrington tells, pushing himself between us.
"I have a piece of chicken in my backpack. We will use that to lure the creature in.", Helena tells, opening a bottle of water.
"So...is it big enough?, Erika asks and Helena chokes on the water.
I take a deep breath, already seeing how big of a pain in the ass she will be.
"What?", Helena asks coughing.
Erika raises her eyebrow and smirks, "The cage. For the bat."
"Yes Erika, it's big enough.", I say, looking at her.
"Men and inches don't really get along so well.", she informs me with a smile.
"You make me wanna never have kids, you know?", I ask her.
"What about you Helena, do you want kids?", she asks and by now, everyone is starting to be suspicious.
"Can we focus on the bats?", I say to her.
She shrugs but doesn't say anything else.
"Okay. Eddie and I will go set the bait and the rest of you keep guard.", I say as Dustin hands me his walkie talkie.
"I'm coming with you.", Erika tells and we look at her.
"I'm small and quiet.", she explains.
"Quiet? We haven't experienced that yet.", I say to her and she flips me the bird, "Fuck off, Munson."
I make a face and flip one back to her.
"Stop it you two. Fine, you're coming with us.", Helena tells and starts to walk towards one of the streets.
"I see them.", I say, pointing my finger towards a few of them, resting on a roof.
"Yea, but we need one. What if they all start to come at once?", Erika asks.
Helena pulls a cassette player out of her backpack, "We will wait for one to enter the cage and distract the others with this."
"Will it be loud enough?", I ask.
"I taped Adrien singing. Trust me, it will.", she tells me with a smile.
I love her smile and right now there's nothing in the world that I would rather do than kiss her and tell her how much I like her.
Erika snaps her fingers in front of my face, "Focus, lover boy."
"Why are you here?", I ask her.
"To make sure our science girl gets the job done without you drooling all over her.", she comments.
Helena laughs and gives Erika the cage and a raw chicken wing, "No need to worry about that."
"Don't go too far. And be careful, these things bite like crazy.", I say as she walks out of the bushes.
"Yes dad, I will.", she comment.
"With the constant bickering you two do, you genuinely care for her.", Helena tells, looking at me.
"She's okay. A pain in the ass but okay.", I say, my eyes focused on Erika.
She puts the cage near the house and places the wing a bit away from the cage.
"They can smell it.", Helena tells as the damn things start to stir.
I wave towards Erika, signaling her to get back.
"Is it working?", she asks, making her way back trough the bushes.
Helena smiles, "Yes."
We see three of them flow down and sniff the chicken. Helena slowly tugs on the rope, dragging the chicken slowly towards the cage. They back away for a bit but one of them approaches the wing again.
"Yea, come on honey.", Helena whispers, tugging on the road again.
"I'm glad you're giving nicknames to things that almost killed me.", I say.
"Just a little bit more.", she tells, pulling the wing inside the cage.
The demobat rushes in and the door drops, trapping him inside.
She smiles, "Gotcha."
"They're coming.", Erika tells as a bunch of them start to fly towards the cage.
"Turn the cassette player on and trow it at them.", Helena tells and I press play, trowing the device towards the house as she pulls the cage towards us.
"Breakin' rocks in the hot sun. I fought the law and the law won. I fought the law and the law won!", a voice starts to break trough.
Erika puts her hands over her ears, "What the hell is that?"
"Adrien singing in the shower.", Helena informs her, grabbing the cage.
"Singing? This shit ain't no singing girl.", Erika states.
"Hurry up.", I say and we run towards the others.
