ALL 13 GIRLS:

"Oh Madeline!" said Miss Clavel.

The girls giggled.

Narrator: In another old house that stood next door lived Steve and Pepito the sons of the Spanish ambassador.

"Bonjour Steven!" said Riley.

"Hola Riley," said Steven.

"Bonjour Pepito!" greeted Madeline.

"Hola Madeline," said Pepito.

Riley stopped walking, sensing that something was off. The boys were not their usually cheerful selves. "Steven, Pepito, you both look sad. What is the matter?" she asked.

Dan, the Ambassador, answered for them. "Aw, Steven, Pepito, my sons, you both will like living in London. You will make new friends at Mr. Ben's Boys School!" he said.

"London?" exclaimed Riley, "You are moving to London?"

"Si, Riley, today. Starting tomorrow, we will go to an all-boys school," said Steven glumly.

"Si, Madeline! Today, and I must leave Pablito the cat here. I must leave my whole menagerie here! Our mother has developed an allergy," Pepito added.

"Ac achoo!" sneezed the Ambassadress, Hannah.

"We can keep Pablito with us, can't we, Miss clavel?" asked Riley.

"I don't see why not," said Miss Clavel.

"Gracias! Gracis!" exclaimed the boys.

Narrator: An ambassador does not have to pay the rent, but he has to move to wherever he's sent.

"Adios, Madeline. Gracias for keeping Pablito," said Pepito, waving goodbye to his friends.

"Au revoir, Pepito!" said Madeline!

"Adios, amigas!" the boys called.

"Au revoir, Pepito and Steven! Goodbye! We'll miss you," said Miss Clavel.

Narrator: The little girls all cried.

"We'd like to go to London too!" wailed the girls.

Narrator: In London, Pepito and Steven just picked at their dinners. Soon both Boys grew thin, and then they grew thinner. Just when boys began to look like a stick, there mama said...

"My, these boys look sick!" said Hannah to her husband, "I think Pepito and Steven are longing for Madeline, Riley, and the rest their Parisian friends."

Narrator: Their papa called Paris.

"Hello, Miss Clavel?" said Dan on the phone, "My little Pepito and Steve is not at all well. They miss you, and they are especially lonesome for Madeline, Riley, and the little girls next door."

"Oh, I understand completely. My little girls miss them too," said Miss Clavel.

"Please, come and visit. There is plenty of room! Steven and Pepito's birthday is coming up soon," Dan said.

"Merci beaucoup, Señor!" Miss Clavel exclaimed, "What a lovely invitation!"

Miss Clavel said goodbye and set down the phone. "Quick, darlings! Pack your bags, and then we will get out to the airport and catch the next plane to London!" she called to the girls.

When the boys heard the news, they were excited. "Que bien, mi Pepito y mi Steven! Your appetite has returned!" Hannah said approvingly one day.

"That's because Madeline is coming!" Pepito crowed.

"And Riley is coming to visit!" said Steven.

Pepito: Fill the house with lovely flowers.

Steven: Fly our flags from all the towers!

Ambassadress:

For Steven and Pepito's birthday bake,

The most wonderful birthday cake!

Pepito:

Place thirteen beds in two straight lines-

This last one will be Madeline's.

Steven:

My friends are coming to London.

My friends are coming to London.

To London!

To London!

Now everything is fine!

Back in Paris, the girls prepared for their trip.

Miss Clavel:

Pack your things; no time to waste.

Off to the airport. Haste, haste haste!

Madeline:

We take a toothbrush and our hats,

And leave some milk for Pepito's cat.

Riley:

Au revoir, Old House. Farewell, Green Vines.

Goodbye, Dear Beds in two straight lines!

Girls: We are going to London.

Now everything is fine!

"Au Revoir, Mrs. Murphy!" said Miss Clavel, "And while we are away, please get someone to trim the hedge and cut the grass. Merci! Merci!"

Girls:

We are going to London.

We are going to London.

To London!

To London!

Now everything is fine!

Pepito: They are coming to London!

Steven: They are coming to London!

Girls: We are going to London!

Girls and Pepito: Now everything is fine!

As the girls and Miss Clavel left the airport, Miss Clavel gasped, "Good heavens! Steven and Pepito's birthday is soon, and we have brought no presents!"

"What shall we get them?" asked Nicole.

"Why, everybody knows that Pepito always said he craved a horse!" said Madeline.

"No, Steven always he said he craved a go-cart," said Riley.

"A horse and a go-cart," said Miss Clavel, "I don't think we can an afford them."

Narrator: In their little purses, and in Miss Clavel's bag, there wasn't enough money to buy the cheapest nag.

"Well, we will just buy something else," said Miss Clavel.

"No, Miss Clavel!" cried the girls.

"Miss Clavel, no need to worry," said Aunt Kathy, "I will take Riley to shop for a small go-cart. She won't smile unless I take her."

"Alright Kathy, we will meet you soon," said Miss Clavel, "You are right, mes petites, in London we may be able to get at least a retired horse as a pet. We will look."

Narrator: So they went to the stables where they found a horse that was gentle, strong, and sound.

"Let us get this one!" said Nicole, pointing to a black horse.

"No, this one!" said Madeline, pointing to a brown one.

"But Madeline, he is too old!" Chloe protested.

"Too ugly," said Nicole with a sniff.

"Too slow," agreed Danielle.

"He is perfect! You will see." Madeline insisted, not at all put off by her friends' opinions.

Narrator: Some poor old horses are made into glue. But not this one, for soon he was good as new.

Riley drove up in a new, brown go-cart. "Beep, beep!" she said, "What do you think Maddie?"

"It was the last one they had," said Aunt Kathy, following her.

Narrator: They reached the embassy at midday. Pepito and Steven saw them and ran out to say...

"Madeline! Madeline! Que alegria! You have come just in time for our birthday!" said Pepito.

"Riley, you came!" said Steven.

"Welcome to London!" said the Ambassador and Ambassadress warmly.

The boys' friends crowded around to see their gifts while the boys went inside with their parents, Aunt Kathy, and Miss Clavel. and the 13 Girls

"Well, well, hmm, a go cart, huh?" said Jenny with a face.

"Don't worry! The gum will stick the gears into place. It will be one ride they won't forget," said Hank approvingly.

"Um, guys, what about that old horse?" asked Ginger skeptically.

"Ginger, no worries. Once he hears the trumpet sound, he will be off and in line before you know it!" said Tim as he petted the horse. The horse nuzzled him contentedly.

The girls ran to the boys. "Pepito! Steven! Pepito! Steven! We have a surprise for you two!" they said.

"What is it? What is it?" the boys asked.

"You have to guess," said Madeline, hoping that the boys wouldn't see the gifts.

"It is a Toy Truck?" asked Pepito.

"Oh no, much bigger, and it has four legs!" said Madeline.

"And you can ride on it!" added Chloe.

"A tricycle?" asked Steven.

"No, no, no, Booboo! It has four legs, not three!" Nicole laughed.

"Tell us, tell us!" Pepito insisted.

Danielle opened the window to show the horse and the go-cart outside.

"Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Happy Birthday Pepito and Steve! Happy Birthday!" said Madeline, hopping up and down excitedly.

"Happy Birthday! We brought this lovey horse just for you, Pepito, and Riley got the go-cart for you Steven," said Nicole.

"A horse, a horse, a horse just for me! Gracias to you all!" Pepito exclaimed.

Narrator: Pepito named the him Piccadilly, and he spoke to the horse which to some, might sound silly.

"Ah Piccadilly, your coat looks so clean and shiny! I think it's time we went for a birthday ride," said Pepito, "Come on, Madeline!"

"Let's see what this go-cart can do," said Steven, "Get in, Riley!"

Narrator: Just then, a trumpet blew.

"Bonjour! Madeline! Pepito! Steven! Riley!" exclaimed Miss Clavel, but then she gasped in horror. Madeline and Pepito were gone with the horse, and Riley and Steven with the go-cart!

Narrator: Piccadilly jumped, and off he flew over the wall to take his place at the Head of the Queen's guard, which he had always led.

"Riley, the guard isn't moving," Steven said.

"Just follow Piccadilly," suggested Riley.

"Madeline! Pepito! Riley! Steven! Oh dear they have gone, that horse and that go-cart ran away with them!" said Miss Clavel, "Come children, we must find them!"

Miss Clavel:

We'll look high and low in London town.

There's London Bridge, not falling down.

All:

Oh, dear, they've gone! Where did they go?

We'll search this town, both high and low.

Miss Clavel:

Westminster Abbey we'll search, and then

We'll inspect our friend, Big Ben.

All:

Oh, dear, they've gone! Where did they go?

We'll search this town, both high and low.

Miss Clavel:

The huge Hyde Park we will explore,

Then we'll peek inside a giant store.

All:

Oh, dear, they've gone! Where did they go?

We'll search this town, both high and low.

Miss Clavel:

In So, they cannot be found.

We'll use this bus to get around.

All:

Oh, dear, they've gone! Where did they go?

We'll search this town, both high and low.

Miss Clavel:

Careful, girls! Watch your feet.

Look right before you cross the street!

All:

Oh, dear, they've gone! Where did they go?

We'll search this town, both high and low.

The Queen:

How nice of you to visit me!

Now won't you stay and have some tea?

All:

Oh, dear, they've gone! Where did they go?

We'll search this town, both high and low.

Oh, dear, they've gone! Where did they go?

We'll search this town, both high and low.

After their impromptu tea, Nicole said "It is too bad that Madeline, Pepito, Riley, Steven missed all the fun."

Narrator: But of course, they had been having a wonderful time, for in the Royal Parade, they headed the line. The birds had seen all this before, but they were glad for an encore.

"Look! Regardez! It is Madeline and Riley!" cried Nicole, pointing.

"Steven And Pepito, too!" said Chloe.

Narrator: And then it became really grand. There was a mascot and his band. The people below were stout and loyal, and those on the balcony mostly royal. Just at that moment, there was an exclamation from the balcony. The queen had lost her crown!

as it go into Riley&Madeline Imager"

"I am the queen, and you, Riley, are the princess!" said Madeline gleefully.

"I am the king, and you are the prince, Steven!" said Pepito.

"No way, Madeline!" said Riley, "I am the queen, and you are the princess because I am older."

"Yes, I am the oldest Pepito, so I am the king, and you are the prince," said Steven.

"And you, Piccadilly, are the most royal of horses," said Riley.

Miss Clavel rushed up to the children and said "Oh, Madeline! Oh Riley!"

"Here is your crown, Your Majesty!" said Madeline.

The Queen said "Why, thank you, little girls! What are your names?"

"Madeline, Your Majesty," said Madeline with a curtsey.

"Riley, Your Majesty. We are twin sisters," said Riley with an identical curtsey.

"Well, Madeline, and Riley you two must be rewarded for your honesty. I award you both the Medal of the Crowns," said the Queen.

Madeline gasped. "Merci, Your Majesty!" she exclaimed.

"But Grandma, can't we invite the girls for a playdate please?" asked little Princess Eliza. begin to jump up and down" with Geels"

"Now Elizabeth, that isn't ladylike," said the Queen.

"I'm afraid we can't, but we thank you for your kindness, Your Majesty," said Miss Clavel.

Narrator: The show was over. It was getting dark in the town and in the park. Everyone went home with tales to tell about the little girls who were given the medals. They arrived home just in time to eat at a table full of birthday treats.

All the girls: We love our bread, we love our butter, and most of all, we love Steven and Pepito! Happy birthday Pepito, happy birthday Steven!

"Thank you! Gracias! Merci! And there is no better birthday present than to be with my friends!" said Pepito.

"You make us very sleepy... and happy… " said Steven with a yawn

"I think it is time for us all to go to sleep," said Hannah.

Narrator: Having been well fed, everyone was in their beds. Only one was forgotten, and he been on his feet all day long without anything to eat.

Narrator: In his cottage that was thatched, wearing trousers that were patched, was Simon the gardener, who loved flowers, especially in the morning hours when their faces, fresh with dew, smiled at him. "How do you do?"

Narrator: Simon who was never late, opened up the garden gate. Then he dropped his garden hose. There wasn't a daisy or a rose!

"All my work and all my care, for nothing! oh this is hard to bear!" cried Simon, " Where is my celery, where are my tomatoes?"

Simon:

Have you seen my beans and peas?

Or the apples on my trees?

My fruits and flowers are all gone.

Without them, I can't carry on!

Oh me, oh my! What can I do?

I'm very sad, boo hoo, boo hoo!

Madeline and Pepito:

He had radishes and kale,

But he's lost them. Now he's pale!

All the Girls:

His leafy plants; they are all gone.

Without them, he can't carry on!

Oh me, oh my! What can he do?

He's very sad, boo hoo, boo hoo!

Simon:

Have you seen my daffodils?

I had them on the windowsills.

My lovely flowers are all gone!

Without them, I can't carry on!

Oh me, oh my! What can I do?

I'm very sad, boo hoo, boo hoo!

Girls, Riley, and Steven:

Have you seen his bright green grass?

It disappeared, and oh so fast!

His perfect plot; it is all gone!

Without it, he can't carry on!

all the girls

Oh me, oh my! What can he do?

He's very sad, boo hoo, boo hoo!

"We must get to the bottom of this," said Madeline, "Come on, Aunt Kathy brought us something back at the house. We will be right back, Miss Clavel."

"Aunt Kathy, did you bring our new detective outfits," asked Riley.

"Oui, girls, go try them on," said Kathy.

The outfits fit perfectly. "Thanks Aunt Kathy!" said Madeline.

Out in Simon's ruined garden, the 13 girls and two boys hunted high and low for clues.

"Aha!" Madeline exclaimed, seeing that the stable was empty, "An Important Clue! Pepito where is Piccadilly?"

"He was right here," said Pepito.

"And did you feed him last night?" asked Riley.

Pepito hung his head. "I think Steven and I were too excited about our party," he admitted,

Porque? Why?"

"Elementary, my dear Pepito, and just as I suspected, we'll search the town for him!" said Madeline.

Narrator: Just like a volcano eruption, they followed the trail of destruction. Just when they thought their efforts were in vain, they spotted a familiar name.

Miss Clavel gasped. "Oh, look who is lying down with his feet up in the air!" she exclaimed.

Madeline checked the unfortunate horse. "I feel his breathing. He is not dead yet. Oh, vit, vit, Pepito! Get a vet!" she said.

"I will be back with your bike, okay!" said Pepito, grabbing the bike and riding off as fast as he could go.

"Steven go with your brother now, please!" said Riley.

"Alright Riley. Pepito wait up!" Steven called.

They soon found a vet, but the horse doctor was closing the clinic for the day.

"Miss wait!" gasped Pepito, "My horse needs your help!"

Hearing the urgency in his voice, the vet took her bag with all of her equipment. "Let's go," she said.

Narrator: Dr. Stone came quickly by. She checked Piccadilly's heart and eyes.

"Don't worry he is only asleep," said Doctor Stone as she gently woke Piccadilly up.

The old horse woke up and shook his head with a snort.

"Help me get him onto his feet," the vet said, "As a diet, there is nothing worse than green apples and roses for an old horse."

"Mm," said Danielle.

"Mm," said Lulu.

"Mm," said Chloe, "Mm!"

"Promise me that when you take him away, you will only fed him grass and hay," said Doctor Stone.

"Of course," said Miss Clavel, "Just fresh cut grass for Piccadilly."

"No green apples," said Simon emphatically.

Narrator: When they returned to the embassy of Spain, Steven and Pepito's mother was crying tears like rain.

"We beg your pardon," said Miss Clavel, "It seems the horse has eaten up your garden."

"A little sunshine and rain, and it will be beautiful again!" Simon said reassuringly.

Narrator: Pepito's and Steven's mother said...

"Quite so, quite so. Still, I'm afraid the horse must go. Ac-ac-achoo! My allergy's back. What else can I do?" said Hannah, wiping her nose with a handkerchief.

Narrator: Then Madeline cried...

"I know what to do! Pepito, let us take care of him for you!" said Madeline.

"Well, I suppose that would be nice," said Miss Clavel thoughtfully, "I've always wanted a horse."

"You, Miss Clavel!" exclaimed the girls.

"Oui, little girls. I think we have just enough space for him," said Miss Clavel.

"Merci, Miss Clavel!" said Madeline, hugging her. Then she turned to Pepito. "And just in case you're feeling down, Pepito, you may keep my medal of the crown. Happy Birthday, mon ami."

"Oh, thank you, Madeline! Gracias, Madeline!" said Pepito.

"Riley, keep my go-cart safe, please," said Steven.

"You sure, Steven?" squeaked Riley.

"Yes, I am sure. Riley, por favor?" Steven asked.

"Ok," said Riley. Then she gave him her medal. "Just in case you're feeling down too, Steven, you may keep my medal of the crown. Happy Birthday, mon ami!" she said.

"Oh, gracias, Riley!" said Steven.

Narrator: Soon it was time to get on the plane. The girls promised they would come again.

"Bye Pepito!" called Madeline, waving from the gate.

"Remember, Steven you are mine," said Riley seriously, "No other girls. If I find out you have one on this side here in London, your go-cart will be broken. Get it sweetheart?"

"Yes Riley, I promise you that there are no other girls here in London after me," said Steven.

"Good," said Riley, "Goodbye, mes amies!"

When they had boarded the plane, Miss Clavel said, "Fasten your seat belts, and in half an hour, you will see the Eiffel Tower!"

Narrator: The very best part of any journey, by car, by bus, by plane is when the trip is over, and you are home again.

"Bonjour Ms. Murphy!" the girls exclaimed.

"Look what we brought back from London!" said Madeline, leading Picadilly to Ms. Murphy,

"We will never have to find someone to cut the grass again!"

The girls laughed at this.

"Oh Madeline," chuckled Miss Clavel.

"Madeline, want to ride the go-cart? I can ride Piccadilly," Riley said.

"Sure, Riley!" said Madeline.

"Girls, no," said Aunt Kathy, "Riley, the go-cart goes next door for now. Madeline put Piccadilly inside the house now, please."

Narrator: The girls had dinner, and they were fortunately able to be fourteen at the supper table.

All the Girls: "We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all we love each other!"

Piccadilly snorted in agreement. Once dinner was over, they took him outside to a nice shed.

Narrator: They brushed his teeth after he was fed, and covered him up, and put him to bed.

"Good night little girls! Thank the Lord you are well. And now, go to sleep," said Miss Clavel.

Narrator: And she turned out the lights and closed the door. There were thirteen upstairs, and below, one more, and that's all there is. There isn't any more.
