The Misfits

Chapter 6

Author's Note : I'm trying to create longer chapters. Let me know what you think of the story so far my readers.

Who knows what true happiness is, not the conventional word.. but the naked terror. To the lonely themselves, that wears a mask, the most miserable outcast hugs some memory.. or some illusion."

When it comes down to it. We all make decisions that impact our life and the people closest to us. Sometimes we've given something as a trade. A gift. Other times things get taken. And we have to simply put ourselves back together. Or give up. Give in to the darkness that threatens to consume us whole.

Lucas finished his journal entry. He while Camden worked on his homework in the kitchen.

Lucas closed himself off upstairs in his room. He wrote and posted these entries. Knowing he was basically talking into a void. No one ever commented on his ramblings and to his surprise.

The outlet became a relief.

...

Camden peaked into the living room and entry way. His dad wasn't around. Good. He was basically done with his homework anyway. And wanted to make sure he did one final thing before going upstairs to his room.

He walked over to the fridge. Opened it and got together all the alcohol bottles he could find. Poured them into the sink. And filled them back up with water.

His dad went into a dark place sometimes. He buys alcohol and drinks it when Camden is already upstairs for bed. At least he thinks Camden is still asleep.

But truthfully Camden doesn't sleep right away. He can't. He simply listens.

Lucas's voice carries into the hallway. And through the walls into Camden's bedroom.

Sometimes he yells. Other times he cries. But most times. Camden hears his father talking to people that aren't there. Not just talking but apologizing. For existing at all.

...

Nathan engulfed her into a hug. The expression on his face softening.

"We're going to be parents." Nathan said. Trying to process Peyton's announcement.

"We are. You know how things get with us. It's hot and then we make up. I think it happened during one of those moments."

"I know we aren't married and we don't live together."

"I want this baby Nathan. And i love you." Peyton confessed.

"I love you too. We need to stop fighting especially when none of it mattters."

"I don't just want this baby. I want us to be a family."

"Let's get married." Nathan proclaimed.

Peyton couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had been wanting this for so long.

...

Brooke left her car. Still reeling from that encounter with Nathan.

She put up with him. Because of Peyton. He knew that. Yet he acted as if because we knew each other all our lives that i'm supposed to be loyal and follow along with whatever him and Peyton wanted.

And i couldn't do that. Lucas wasn't going to be a passing ship or forgotten memory. Sure she didn't know what they could be but she wanted to try.

Which is why she knocked on the front door of Lucas's house three times. On the third knock she lingered.

The front door soon opened and it wasn't Lucas at all.

Instead it was a boy. An adorable one at that.

Brooke smiled warmly.

"I didn't mean to interupt. I'm Brooke Davis. I'm here to see Lucas Scott. Could you get him for me.? What's you're name cutie.?" Brooke asked.

Camden smiled shyly. "I'm Camden Scott."

"I'll get him for you. Come in please." He replied.

Brooke thanked him and entered the home.

"Dad! Brooke Davis is here to see you!" Camden shouted in the entryway.

Minutes later. Lucas came down the stairs. Finding himself feeling exposed and caught off guard.

"Go on up to you're room Cam." Lucas instructed. Ruffling the boy's hair.

Camden nodded his head agreement and went upstairs.

"We should talk outside." Lucas insisted.

...

"I thought we were clear about where we stood."

"Friends. Simple and easy." Lucas proclaimed.

"Look in my eyes and tell me you don't feel anything at all." Brooke insisted.

Lucas couldn't look away. But he didn't answer.

"I care about you. And you care about me. I don't pretend and i can't act like you don't exist." Brooke proclaimed.

"I told you. What you're looking for won't be found with me."

"I don't do relationships. Commitment."

"I'm not the guy you fall in love with."

"I don't want to break you're heart. So just stop trying."

"And let me go." Lucas insisted.

But Brooke was relentless or stubborn.

Or maybe she saw something in Lucas that he had yet to see in himself.

Brooke leaned over and kissed him.

Lucas kissed her back.

At some point they pulled apart.

His head spinning. Heart racing. Her perfume and warmth of her skin and lips. Consumed him.

"Mr. Scott. I don't give up that easily. Or at all."

"I'll you around." Brooke replied.

Peyton read the latest entry. Throwing her head back in laughter as she called out to Nathan.

He walked over and read what she had pulled up.

"This is perfect. Fucking gold." Nathan said.

An idea popping into his head.
