Your thirtieth birthday happens to fall on a Quad Squad weekend, and I'm determined to get you to go out and enjoy yourself even if I can't join you. You try to argue at first, and I think we're headed for another fight like the one we had about you going hunting, but you keep a level head.
"How about l go out, and then spend my actual birthday and Sunday with you? It's called a compromise, Lovely."
"Okay. I'll man the gate with Esme and come check in with you before I come back to the house." I peck your lips. "It's your birthday, and I want you to enjoy yourself, but I also know you miss being out there."
"I do."
"Then it's settled. I get the house to myself for a couple hours, you get to play in the mud, and then l'll spoil you."
Your eyes light up. "Do tell, Lovely."
"Nope." I pop the "P". "It's a surprise."
You frown but let it go.
To be honest, aside from baking you a cake and the new boots I got you, I don't know what else I'm going to do. I'll probably take a page out of your book and give you a massage before rocking your world. Well, as best as I can, considering the watermelons I'm carrying.
I've already told Esme l'm cooking your favorite dinner for you, so she's taking the night off.
The park fills up fast for a quad night. Everyone is excited to celebrate the good weather. I ride with Esme in her Mule, and we find you out in the dunes.
You give me a muddy kiss and offer to walk me back to the house, but I assure you I'll be fine. "Have fun, sweetheart."
I'm baking your cake—rainbow chip, your favorite—and wracking my brain for something else I can do to make your weekend special.
While the cakes bake, I sit in the living room and pull up Google for a little help. Presents for dads-to-be leads me nowhere until a pop-up ad for a babymoon comes up. A quick vacation for you and your partner to have one-on-one time before the baby, or in our case, babies come.
We spend the weekend making love and relaxing, just enjoying each other's company. You appreciate the boots and massages and start a countdown for the five-day trip to Savannah, Georgia I surprise you with.
