Chapter 6 June's Adoption

Three weeks later, Eddy, June, Matt, Double D, and Ed went to the Peach Creek Court House.

When everything was said and done, Matt officially gave up his rights and Eddy was made June's legal guardian.

The whole ordeal was finally over.

Ed cheered first. "Yay! You got June back Eddy!"

Eddy gave Ed a big smile. "Yep! Now let's go to the Peach Creek Foster Home so I can officially adopt June as my daughter."

June gasped. "You really want me to be your daughter."

Eddy nodded. "That's right June Bug. I love you and to me you are more than just my niece. You are my child."

June couldn't believe what she was hearing. It was a dream come true.

"Uncle Eddy, can I call you dad from now on?"

Eddy chuckled. "Absolutely."

June leapt into Eddy's arms and cried happy tears into his neck.

Double D and Ed both cried at the sight.

Matt walked over to the group. Eddy held June protectively.

"Well, well. Looks like you won bro." Matt soon turned towards June.

"And you. You will always be my flesh and blood. You can't escape that.

Also, I'm glad that I gave you those bruises."

June whimpered and Eddy growled.

"That's it! Double D hold June. I'm going to punch my brother's lights out!"

Double D held June with his left arm and pulled on Eddy's shirt with his right arm.

"Eddy no! Another assault can still jeopardize your custody of June."

Eddy grunted but relented.

"Fine. Come on June, we're out of here."

The gang soon left the courthouse and went to the Foster Home.

Eddy filled out some paperwork with Ms. Beverly.

"There we go Mr. McGee; you are now June's adoptive dad."

"Thank you, Ms. Beverly."

June was so happy now. Her uncle was her dad now.

Eddy was relieved. He had June back and he no longer must worry about his brother.

"Alright now that that's settled, how about we go back to my place for Eddy's world-famous burgers!"

June, Double D, and Ed cheered.

The gang went back to Eddy's house and had burgers with chips.

Life was good.

A knock was suddenly heard.

Eddy got up from his seat. "I'll get it."

When Eddy opened the front door, he was surprised to see Peter standing before him.

"Hello, Mr. McGee. Can I talk to June?"

Eddy sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I suppose so. Just don't make her cry this time."

"Hey June! Peter is here to see you."

June walked to Eddy still chewing on a piece of burger.

"Oh, hey Peter!"

"Hi June."

Eddy coughed. "I'll leave you kids be."

Eddy just walked behind a wall to spy on June and Peter. Double D and Ed joined him.

Peter mumbled a bit. "Um…I just want to say that I'm sorry again for how I treated you. It wasn't right and uh… here."

Peter shoved a doll into June's arms.

June looked at the doll. It was clearly homemade and designed to look like her.

"My mom made it."

June glomped Peter. "Thank you, Peter." June then kissed Peter on the cheek.

Eddy groaned while Double D and Ed just snickered.

Peter left and June waved goodbye to him

"Uncle Eddy! Peter gave me this doll that his mom made."

Eddy smiled. "That's great kiddo."

Double D and Ed said their goodbyes and left.

June went to her room to play with her doll.

The window in June's room suddenly opened.

June was startled. "Hello…"

Eddy suddenly heard a scream. "JUNE!"

He ran as fast as he can to June's room.

June was gone and the window was opened.

She was kidnapped.

Eddy pulled some of his blue hair out. "JUNE!"

He immediately called Double D and Ed who came right over.

"Ok, calm down Eddy. Now let's go to June's room and see if we can find some clues."

The three men searched June's room.

Ed found something. "Look you guys, it's an ID card."

The card said Timothy James.

Eddy growled. "My brother must have hired him to take June."

Double D sighed. "Looks like we just need to call the police and wait Eddy."

"Pfft… we don't have time. Ed! Get a whiff of the ID card and follow the scent."

"Can do Eddy!" Ed sniffed the ID card.

"Got the scent!"

Eddy and Double D immediately followed Ed outside.

Meanwhile June was struggling in Mr. James's arms as he was running in the woods.

"Hold still you brat!"

Mr. James had hit June on the head.

"Ow…where are you taking me? To dad?"

Mr. James snickered. "No… your dad is a cheapskate who won't pay me. At least he gave me your address though. There is a lot of people who would LOVE to buy you. You got such a pretty face."

June started to scream again.

The scream was heard by Eddy, Double D, and Ed.

"We're coming June Bug!"

The three men hurried in their pursuit of June and her kidnapper.

Mr. James reached his spot and threw June into a small cage.

"Oww…"

Mr. James just laughed. "Oh, quiet you. You are going to make me a lot of money."

"HEY!"

He turned around to see the enraged faces of Double D, Ed, and Eddy.

"Dad!"

"June! If you want a quick and painless death, you'll let her out of that cage."

Mr. James shook his head. "No, I don't think I will. This little cutie is going to make me a fortune on the black market. She is going to make some man very happy."

June whimpered with fear.

Eddy was shaking with rage. He was going to kill this bastard with his bare hands.

"THAT'S IT!" Eddy immediately ran toward Mr. James to attack him.

"Not so fast." Mr. James immediately pulled out a gun and put it through one of the holes in June's cage.

Eddy stopped in his tracks and sweated profusely. "Now you don't want to do anything that you'll regret."

Mr. James smirked. "Try me."

Bang!

June had her eyes closed fearing the worst and opened them when she realized that she was fine.

It was Mr. James who was shot.

Police chief Kevin and the other officers came out from the woods.

Double D smirked. "I called the authorities awhile ago and had them track our location."

Mr. James was apprehended, and June was released from her cage.

"Dad!" June was crying as she ran to her new dad.

"June Bug!"

June leapt into Eddy's arms and cried into his chest.

"I... I was so scared."

Eddy gave June multiple kisses. "Me too June Bug"

He stood up to thank Kevin for his help.

"Thanks Kevin. Say can you leave Mr. James alone with me for five minutes?"

Kevin chuckled. "Normally I'd say no because it's against regulations. Still, I'm a dad myself and this monster almost killed a little girl. I say go for it."

"Beautiful" Eddy brought out a pair of brass knuckles and put them on his fists.

Mr. James gulped.

Once Eddy was finished, they had to call an ambulance for Mr. James.

Eddy picked up June. "Alright, let's go home everyone."

Everyone went to their houses.

June lets out a cute yawn. "I'm tired. I'm going to bed dad."

Eddy gulped. "Hang on there kiddo. We need to do some security measures on your room so that today doesn't happen again. How about you sleep with dad tonight?"

June smiled. "Ok. Just let me get my doll from my room."

Eddy grimaced a little. "June wait!" June picked up her doll when a sudden face appeared out her window.

June screamed. "AHHHH!"

Eddy's heart stopped as he went into June's room. "JUNE!"

Fortunately, it was just Ed who popped his head into the window.

"Just wanted to check on you and say goodnight, June."

"Thank you, Uncle Ed."

Eddy immediately closed the window on Ed, which unfortunately smashed his fingers.

"Idiot. June lets hit the hey."

Eddy and June went to Eddy's bedroom.

June giggled and went under Eddy's blankets.

Eddy went to the bathroom to get changed.

He came out in a beautiful blue robe.

June looked so tiny in Eddy's bed, it made Eddy smile.

Eddy got into bed and June snuggled up next to him.

"Goodnight dad."

"Goodnight, June Bug."

This has been a long day and Eddy's mind was plagued with worries.

June could have been hurt. She can be hurt next time.

Eddy is going to watch June like a hawk from now on.
