Even though you're far away,
I can still see you,
Sometimes I swear you're still inside my mind,
Tell me are you the shadow,
That always follows me,
You always seem to be right there,
You're like an angel by my side,
Whenever I fall,
There you are,
I know that my pain,
You feel in your heart,
And when the life that I live,
Seems so hard,
And there you are- Sam Salter, There You Are
Spencer's POV
His breath puffed out of him in a slow exhale as he took the box of cookies from Trina's outstretched hand. Their fingers brushed and Spencer was overcome with a surge of emotion. He really loved this girl with all his heart. "Ginger snaps… Trina."
"I never really welcomed you back home, so- welcome back home," Trina said hesitantly, looking up at him through her eyelashes. Spencer wanted to hold her, to kiss her, to show her just how deep his feelings for her went. He held himself back with an effort. Things between them were so fragile right now, and he didn't want to ruin this moment.
Shifting nervously from one foot to the other, Spencer cleared his throat. "Thank you." He looked at her, eyes roaming over her delicately beautiful features, drinking her in as always. "So, you brought these for me, and you're not here to see Joss, and you're not on your date… why are you here, Trina?"
"I changed my mind, you idiot," Trina said, half-laughing as she folded her arms over her chest.
Wrinkling his brow, Spencer fought back the wave of confusion that swept over him. "Changed your-?"
"You said that if I changed my mind, you'll be at the Metro Court, Trina explained patiently, although the look she was giving him was exasperated. The shock of seeing Trina up here hadn't completely dissipated, and he was feeling slow on the uptake. "And here I am, because I changed my mind."
Spencer raised his eyes to the sky for a quick second, sending up a quick prayer of gratitude to whoever was listening. He took her warm hand in his, squeezing softly. "Oh, my God, I'm so glad you did. Come, sit down."
They sat next to each other on the closest deck chair, legs touching. Trina stared at their linked hands, speaking in a low voice. "I don't know if it was a good idea for me to come here. But I couldn't- I needed to know." She looked up at him then, her eyes wide and innocent. "What you said at the gallery… did you mean it?"
"Every single word," Spencer replied immediately, his voice ringing with sincerity.
He shivered as Trina traced her finger over his knuckles. She frowned as she said, "You said you were in love with me."
"I did. Because I am." Spencer raised her hand to his lips, brushing a soft, fluttery kiss over her fingers. "I love you, Trina. You- you're the best thing that's happened to me."
Trina gasped, comically covering her mouth with her hand. "Spencer, you can't just say things like that!"
"Why not? It's true." He shrugged, turning towards her, and staring into her pretty eyes as he continued. "My life has been pretty crappy, and that turned around as soon as I came back to Port Charles and met you. I mean, what's not to love?" He shot her an admiring smile which she returned, and Spencer's heart sang. "You're beautiful, so smart, fierce, a bad ass who isn't scared of creepy guys wearing ski masks…" Trina let out a laugh at that, cocking her head to the side as she watched Spencer spill his heart to her. "You call me out on my crap all the time, but you also have a big heart, and you care so deeply and want people to become their best self. And I know that I'm definitely not the kind of man you deserve, but-."
His speech was cut off as Trina leaned in and pressed her lips against his. Their breath mingled and Spencer let out a soft moan as he tasted her again, at how good it felt, how right it felt to kiss her. He wanted this forever, but even if he only got tonight, he would take it. It was better than nothing.
Breaking the kiss, Trina whispered, "I have feelings for you too."
"Yeah?" Spencer asked, feeling the delighted smile spread over his face, working his underused cheek muscles. God, it had been so long since he'd had a reason to smile, a real, genuine, from the heart smile, and now the reason was sitting right next to him.
Rolling her eyes, Trina wryly said, "I wouldn't be here if I didn't. In fact, I've had feelings for you for a long time, even though I tried to fight them once I found out about- you know." Her features clouded and with a hint of guilt, Spencer knew she was thinking about Esme and her dramatic entrance in Port Charles, and in Trina's life. "Maybe starting from when you talked me into going to my graduation."
"Well, it was kind of my fault-," Spencer started, then paused with a smile on his face as Trina shot him a 'really?' look. "Okay, all my fault that you got drenched with fake blood and that conversation had to happen at all."
Trina nodded, a reflective look on her face as she patted his knee distractedly. "True, but even though you did an awful thing, you also gave me the push I needed to go through with going to my grad party when all I wanted to do was go home. You could have just- ignored me and gone about your business. But you came to talk to me, gave me a pep talk and it was just what I needed to go enjoy my night."
The smile that she gave him made Spencer's heart feel too large for his chest. He smiled back at her, lost in her glow.
"No way I could have ignored you, Trina," he murmured, reaching up to cup her cheek in his hand. "One look in your eyes and I was gone. I had to get to know you."
Putting her hand over his, Trina said, "And now we're here. Even if it's only for tonight."
"Now we're here. Are you-," Spencer started to ask, but Trina interrupted him, pointing to the sky.
With awe in her voice, she exclaimed, "Look! A shooting star! Make a wish." Spencer glanced in the direction she was pointing in, and saw the bright star gliding across the inky black sky. Trina closed her eyes, put her hand over his and began to murmur the age-old words. "Star light, star bright…"
He closed his eyes and joined her.
"First star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight."
Only Trina, he thought, wishing harder and more desperately than he'd ever wished for anything before. Only Trina, forever, please.
They opened their eyes at the same time, and she smiled at him, before saying, "My date- I really wanted to go. I wanted to see the art exhibition. But I couldn't stop thinking about you, about the way we left things unresolved. I needed closure."
"So, you're here for closure?" Spencer asked softly.
Trina's smile was beautiful, and it brushed away the last of Spencer's fears as she said, "Among other things."
And just like that, he was kissing her, and she let out a little sigh as their lips met, as their tongues did their little dance that he was already getting used to, slipping, and sliding alongside each other and feeling so good. Trina moaned into his mouth as she wrapped her arms around his neck, brushing her fingertips against the nape of his neck in a way that made him shiver. He felt himself getting hard again, and almost laughed. Spencer Cassadine, getting turned on beyond belief from a kiss. But he knew it wasn't just the kiss, it was Trina.
Pulling back from the kiss with real regret, Spencer said, "I could sit up here with you all night, you know?"
"Yeah?" Trina rested her head on his shoulder, and Spencer breathed in her fragrant curls. "You want to hang out under the stars till the sun comes up?"
Pressing a kiss on the top of her head, Spencer replied, "I have 24-hour butler service. We can get snacks, and I have a bottle of-."
"Hey, what are you guys doing up here after hours?" Both Spencer and Trina jumped at the interruption, and Spencer turned to see a uniformed security guard aiming a flashlight at them. "Pool closes at 9!"
Recovering quickly from his surprise, Spencer glibly lied, "The gate was unlocked. You should really talk to your security team about that."
Trina snickered against his shoulder and a gratified tingle swept through Spencer.
Narrowing his eyes suspiciously, the security guard said, "Yeah, well, time to leave now, please."
Deciding that it wasn't worth the hassle to argue with the guard, Spencer gathered his towel and cookies in one hand, and took Trina's hand with the other. They walked past the guard, and walked to the exit.
As they walked down the hallway to the bank of elevators, Spencer casually asked Trina, "So, are you going to go home, or to the dorms? I could call you a rideshare car."
Obviously, he didn't want her to leave, but he also didn't want to pressure her into staying. Trina had a fierce streak of independence in her that Spencer loved, and he wanted her to make her own choices without feeling like he was pushing something on her.
Her response shocked a gasp out of him. Looking up at him, she shyly asked, "Do you want me to go home?"
Spencer immediately stopped walking and turned to look down into her upturned face. He gripped her hand, his voice desperate as he whispered, "I want you to stay with me tonight. Please."
And he waited, hoping, wishing, praying that for once, he could get what he wanted.
"Then I'll stay."
Finally.
The sigh of relief that came out of Spencer made Trina giggle as he wrapped an arm around her waist and hugged her to him. They walked to the elevators in silence, holding each other, and Spencer remembered the honeymooning couple he had been so jealous of on his way to his room. Maybe they hadn't even been honeymooning, maybe the stars had aligned for them, just like they had for Spencer and Trina.
The elevator was empty, and Spencer pressed the button for his floor, then looked at Trina, who was looking up at him, nibbling on her bottom lip. The action was enough for Spencer to lean in and kiss her tenderly, sinking a hand into her curls. This kiss was feverish, almost reckless, and Trina moaned helplessly as he licked his way into her mouth, reveling in her unique taste. The aching arousal flooded his body, travelling through his veins, making him feel hot all over. He pulled her closer to him, his lips moving over hers, swallowing her moans. She was responsive to his every touch, and he almost couldn't imagine what she'd be like in bed. In bed, making love to him. How could he have gotten so lucky? It almost felt like he was dreaming.
They pulled apart once the elevator reached the 14th floor, and Spencer dug in his pocket for his key card. He looked at Trina, memorizing the delicate structure of her face, her full, pouty lips, her slanted eyes.
"Last chance to turn back, musa mea," he said, almost jokingly, but he held his breath waiting for Trina's response all the same, because if anything went wrong, this is where it would happen.
Trina's lips turned up in a pretty smile as she replied, "I would be crazy if I did."
"Formidable, musa mea." Trina snickered, reaching up to pat his cheek as he opened the door for her. "Formidable."
