BPOV

"Let's not discuss anything from tonight," Edward said defensively once we were in the car.

"I wasn't planning to," I said. Not because I wasn't curious, it was because I knew he wasn't going to tell me anything honestly anyway!

"Thank you." he said and then added after a minute, "There's no point discussing the childish things."

Childish things? Alright!

"Exactly!" I said.

I didn't know if I was being too hopeful, but my mind was full of optimism. His smile had changed everything! I wanted to fight for that!

Did he still like me? Could we make it somehow? What type of crush did he have on me? Did he actually like me? Or was it like just a casual crush?

I needed to think about this.

But Edward was too distracting for me to focus on anything!

He was behaving absurdly right now!

He rubbed his face a few times.

He tightened his grip on the steering wheel a few times.

He gritted his teeth.

He smiled.

Then he cursed.

And then he gritted his teeth again.

"Could you please stop staring at me?" Finally he said something out loud.

"Hmmm..." I said, "What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing," he said.

Yeah right!

"I can see something is bothering you," I said.

"No, it's nothing," he said.

"I can see something is wrong," I said.

"I'm just trying to outline the steps in my mind," he said, "Regarding the divorce."

And that was enough to make me speechless! Whatever the optimism I had was all gone. He killed something inside me with just that one sentence!

"Hmmm..." was all I could say.

"We need to get it done as soon as possible," he said.

"Hmm..."

"I want this to end as soon as possible," he said.

"Hmmm..."

"I just want this to be over," he said.

"Hmmm..."

I wasn't sure if he was talking to me or to himself!

I didn't realize it, but tears had started rolling down my cheeks; I let them flow silently!

None of us said anything for the rest of the ride.

I wasn't able to think of anything. I knew he wanted to end this, and I didn't think I had any right to stop him from doing so.

He started walking towards his room once we reached home.

"Edward, can I ask you something?" I decided to ask him one question.

It wasn't going to change anything, but I had to know.

"Do you still like me... at all?" I asked even though I knew what his answer was going to be.
