Six days after Jerry's death, a funeral was being held for him at Burbank Cemetery. All of the police officers who worked with him were devastated, especially Tony. He lost his partner and best friend of fifteen years.
After giving a eulogy, the chief of police, Chief Marks, announced, "Up next, Officer Holmes would like to say a few words about our late Officer Robbins. Thank you." And sat back down.
Tony got up and stepped to the podium. He took a deep breath and cleared his throat.
"Thank you, Chief. Jerry Robbins, to me, was not only my partner, but also my best friend. I met him when I was just in training all those years ago. He was very eccentric, but me and him got along very quickly, as I often do with people. And ever since then, we've went through the ups-and-downs of being cops together. Jerry, I wish you were still alive. I miss you, man. That's all."
Tony wiped his eyes and sat back down at his seat.
The chief went back up to the podium. "Would anybody else like to say anything about Officer Robbins?"
Aside from Tony, the officers shook their head no. They weren't as close to Jerry as Tony was.
"Very well then. After the funeral is over, we've decided that Officer Robbins' ashes will be cremated, per his family's wishes. All money and other charity will be donated to the Robbins family. Thank you." The chief said, and sat back down at his seat.
[Later]
After Jerry's ashes were cremated, Tony walked away and stood in the distance. Tears were rolling down his face and he sniffed.
"How are you holding up?" A voice asked. It was the chief.
Tony turned around. "I'm doing alright, Chief, thanks for asking."
"You don't have to lie to me, Holmes. I know Robbins meant a lot to you. This must be tearing you apart." The chief said, sympathetic.
"If you want to know the truth, it is. But I'll move on soon enough. It'll just take some time." Tony said.
"You can say that again. Hey, listen, just keep this between you and me, but who killed Robbins anyway?" The chief asked.
At first, Tony was hesitant to answer that question, but responded anyway. "Tom Waterston."
"Waterston? I thought he was locked up for good." The chief said with surprise.
"He escaped prison about a week ago. Jerry and I busted into his house to put him back, but being the way he is, he locked himself in some type of chamber, and the next thing I knew, Jerry was dead. His body was laying on the floor, and I was too late." Tony said, a hint of guilt escaping him.
"Wow. That's rough. Hopefully somebody will find him and give him what he deserves." The chief said.
"Yeah, hopefully." Tony said.
"Anyway, I don't mean to change the subject so quickly, but, uh, I just want to let you know that you'll be assigned a new partner next week. You'll have to train them, too." The chief said.
Tony just blinked. "What?"
"I said a new partner will be assigned to you next week, and they'll have to be trained by you." The chief repeated himself.
"With all due respect, Chief, I don't want a new partner, and I sure as hell don't want to train them, either." Tony said.
"I'm sorry, Holmes, but submissions have already been made, and I can't retract them, as weird as that sounds. It's out of my hands now." The chief said.
Tony sighed in defeat. "Okay, fine, I guess I could make it work."
"Great! Just try not to screw up, no offense." The chief said.
"I don't know if I can promise that, Chief, but I'll do my best." Tony said.
The chief nodded and walked away.
Tony was in for one heck of a ride. Now that his old partner is gone, he'll have to deal with teaching his new one the ropes, including explaining basic police stuff. Jerry did to him when he was new, and now he has to wield that mantle.
A/N: Sorry that this chapter was super short, I didn't really know what else to add, plus I have a hard time fleshing out certain characters especially if their OCs. But we're getting close to the end, so stay tuned!
