Church
April 28, 1999
Byron POV
Byron and a priest are there.
"I wake up at night. My heart pounding, a voice whispering in my head: "You're a fraud. You can't fool God." I tell the Priest.
"These are not new fears, Byron. I've watched you grow, wept for you, rejoiced in you, you are not a fraud. I know your heart." the Priest tells me.
"You don't know my family, Father. Generations of evil. Evil that's in my blood." I tell the Father.
"The blood of the sacrament washes it clean." the Priest tells me.
My brothers arrive.
"Hello, Byron." Greg tells me.
"Long time no see twin of mine." Brendan tells me.
"How'd you find me?" I ask my two older brothers.
"Yeah, good to see you too. Didn't mean to interrupt your conversation. We'll wait outside for you so we can have a family reunion." Greg tells me.
Outside the church
Alex POV
Prue, Piper and Phoebe, and I are getting stuff out of the van.
"Hey, you know what? The next time Quake does a food pantry, why don't you call some guys." Prue says.
"Yeah, I'll just go through my handy guy Rolodex." Piper says.
"Which I believe now stops at 'J' for Josh or is it 'B' for boyfriend." Phoebe says.
"I don't wanna talk about it." Piper says.
"Why not, Piper? You know you like him, and he calls you all the time. Why don't you just go out with him?" Phoebe asks Piper.
"I told you. Because I'm too busy with work and my instincts are telling me to lay low." Piper tells Pheebs, the brat.
"Always trust your instincts." Prue says.
"Whose side are you on?" Phoebe asks Prue.
We see some nuns.
"Now, they have got the right idea." Piper says.
"Who, the nuns?" Phoebe asks and I raise my eyebrows.
"Yep, nice safe environment." Piper says.
"And you lose your powers." I tell her.
"Yeah, if you like monks." Pheebs says at the same time as me.
"Stress-free, no need to worry about guys, no wardrobe." Piper says.
"No wardrobe? Okay, now you're scaring me." Phoebe says.
"Um, whose pen is this?" Piper asks.
"Oh, it's, uh, Byron's, I think. You know, the cute guy who signed for the food, remember?" Prue says.
"I remember him, yes." Pheebs says.
"Good, then you can take it to him. I think he's in the church office." Piper says.
"Okay, just don't go taking any vows while I'm gone, all right?" Pheebs asks Piper. Piper hands Phoebe the pen and Phoebe has a premonition. "Oh, oh, cute guy, I just saw him being attacked by a warlock." Pheebs says.
"Where?" Prue asks.
"I think it was here somewhere." Phoebe says.
"All right, let's split up." Prue says.
Inside the Church.
Byron POV
Me and my brothers are in the Church.
"Give it up, little brother. You're praying to the wrong deity. Aren't you, Byron? I mean after all; we can't deny who we are." Greg tells me.
"You don't scare me, Greg." I tell Greg.
"Sure, I do." Greg tells me. He turns into a warlock. "We've come a long way to find you. We're not leaving until you join us." Greg tells me.
"Please, Byron, we don't want to hurt you." Brendan tells me.
Greg hits me and I fall to the floor. "Did you really think that the church could save you?" Greg asks me. Greg picks up Brendan up off the floor. He goes to hit him again, but Prue enters the church.
"Hey!" Prue yells at my brother. She uses her power and Greg flies across the room. "Piper! Phoebe!" Prue calls.
"We'll come back for you." Greg tells me. Ever since Paul died, they've been after me. They run off.
"Prue?" Phoebe asks.
"You guys, over here!" Prue says. "Are you alright?" Prue asks me.
"Yeah, thanks." I tell her. I run off.
Prue POV
"Wait, where...?" I ask.
"Hey!" Piper shouts, says?
"What happened?" Phoebe asks.
"I don't know, but uh, I'm gonna go find out." I tell them.
In a room
Greg POV
We are in a room. Brendan is staring at a hawk.
"Amazing reflexes. Check it out." Brendan tells me.
"Should've kept a closer watch on Byron over the years. Shouldn't have left him alone." I speak.
"Seriously, you gotta see this, watch." Brendan tells me.
"I'm sick and tired of you and this freakin' bird." I tell Brendan.
"Yeah? Too bad." Brendan says in my own voice, using his power of Voice manipulation. I go to hit him. "No!" Brendan says. Brendan puts up a force field around the hawk. "I'm sorry, okay. Just stay away from my pet. That's all I ask. Maybe we should let Brendan go. I mean, we don't really need him. It's not like we don't already have our powers." Brendan tells me, his cryokinetic powers showing.
"Without his powers we can't complete our triangle. Brendan, the prophecy of the Rowe Coven. He must accept his heritage. He must be initiated as a warlock." I tell Brendan.
"Initiated how? We can't force him to kill an innocent." Brendan tells me.
"Well, maybe not, but we can stir his inner nature. The part he thinks he's suppressed. Make him wanna kill." I tell Brendan.
"By tomorrow? Not a chance. Once he's been ordained, he's safe. He can never become a warlock." Brendan says.
"In which case, we will have to kill him." I tell him.
Halliwell Manor, Conservatory
Piper POV
Prue, Alex, Pheebs, and I are at the manor when the phone rings and Phoebe answers it.
"Hello? Oh, hello, Josh, how are you?" Phoebe says.
"I will call him back." I tell Phoebe.
"Yeah, she's right here, hold on a second. Oops." Pheebs says.
"You're dirty." I say as I take the phone. "Hello. No, it's all right. I'm always up this early. What's that? My horoscope said that? Really? Oh, well, that's a shame 'cause I have to work Friday night. Yep, Saturday too." I tell Josh.
"Okay, I have to go change the cat litter." Pheebs tells Prue, I see Alex roll her eyes, doing her homework.
"Phoebe." Prue says.
"What? What is the problem? She likes him, he likes her." Pheebs says.
"The problem is it's none of our business." Prue says.
"I, I've got to go now, so thanks for calling though. Yeah, well, I gotta go to work. I'll be there all day and all night. Yep, gotta go, bye." I tell Josh. I hang up.
"Okay, you know what? It's your life, if you wanna be a nun, Godspeed." Pheebs says.
"Thank you. Now back to our warlock crisis. Why do we think they're after, what's his name again?" I ask Phoebe.
''Byron, and I don't know, I couldn't find him. But I've seen him at the church before and I'm hoping that the parish priest can help." Prue tells me.
"Yeah, well, you better hope Byron doesn't tell anybody about your powers or else we got bigger problems than just warlocks." I tell Prue.
"Yeah, but I don't think he will. There's something in his eyes, I don't know, it seemed like he wasn't surprised by it. All right, um, I've gotta go. I'll call you guys if I find out anything." Prue tells us.
"Do you want us to go with you?" I ask Prue.
"You have to work, remember?" Prue says. Prue leaves. The phone rings and Phoebe gets up to answer it.
"Don't you dare answer that. Sit down." I tell Pheebs, Alex laughs at that.
Church
Prue POV
I walk up to Father Austin.
"Excuse me." I tell Father Austin.
"Yes." Father Austin tells me.
"Father Austin?" I ask.
"Yes." Father Austin tells me.
"Hi. I'm Prue Halliwell. My sister helped co-ordinate the food for last night." I tell Father Austin.
"Piper. Of course. I'm very grateful to her, it was a wonderful evening. Except for what happened in here." Father Austin tells me.
"Actually, that's why I'm here. Do you know someone named Byron; I think he was one of the volunteers?" I ask him.
"I know Byron very well. You don't think he had anything to do with this?" Father Austin asks me.
"No. No, no, no, no. Um, but I did see two other men trying to hurt him. I mean he's fine, he got away alright, but I don't think they're gonna stop trying." I tell him.
"He always said they'd come." Father Austin tells me.
"Excuse me?" I ask him.
"Nothing. It's just something I know Byron's been wrestling with his whole life." Father Austin tells me.
"Do you know where I might be able to find him?" I ask him.
"Why do you want to?" Father Austin asks me.
"I think he's in trouble. And I might be able to help him." I tell him.
"You? How?" Father Austin asks.
"I can't really tell you that, Father, I'm sorry. It's kind of personal, I just have to ask you to trust me." I tell him.
Quake
Phoebe POV
Piper and I are at Quake.
"So, the lunch rush is almost over and then you're closed till dinner, right?" I ask Piper.
"Yeah, why?" Piper asks.
"Just curious. Have you heard from Prue yet?" I ask.
"No, not yet." Piper tells me. I stare at her. "What? Why are you staring at me?" Piper asks.
"Because I'm worried about you, that's why." I tell her.
"Oh, Phoebe, don't start." Piper tells me.
"No, Piper, something's up. You're turning down dates with a guy that you like, extolling the virtues of convent living, you've been working double shifts three times a week. This is not the Piper I know and I'm worried." I tell Piper.
"Don't be. Everything is fine." Piper tells me.
Josh walks up behind us "I would like a glass of Calera Jensen, please. '93, if you've got it." Josh tells Piper.
"Josh." Piper says.
"Good start. You recognize me." Josh tells Piper.
"What are you doing here?" Piper asks. "Phoebe!" Piper quietly tries to scold me.
"What?" I ask quietly.
"This is such a surprise." Piper tells Josh.
"Well, I tell you what, I'm gonna cut right to the chase here. You wanna get all hot and sweaty with me? I'm kidding, kidding. I'm on my way to the gym and thought since I can't buy you dinner, we could um, work out together." Josh tells Piper.
"I'll be right back." Piper says.
"Uh, so will I." I tell him. Piper and I walk away.
"I'm gonna kill you." Piper tells me.
"Why? A little exercise, a nice steam, a trip to the juice bar, what could it hurt?" I ask Piper.
"My job. I'm at work. I can't just up and leave." Piper tells me.
"Okay, well, I could baby-sit for you while you're gone." I tell Piper.
"The restaurant? I don't think so." Piper tells me.
"What, it's not like anything's gonna happen. You said it yourself, you're closed until dinner. Come on, it is just a workout. The worse-case scenario: you're in better shape by the time you check into the nunnery." I tell Piper.
"Okay, fine. But only if it will get you to shut up." Piper tells me.
"It will." I tell Piper
"Good." Piper tells me.
"Fine." I tell her. I give Josh the thumbs up sign.
"Thank you." Josh tells me.
"You're welcome." I tell him.
Stables
Prue POV
Byron is there with a little girl. "Are you sure you've never ridden a horse before?" Byron asks a little girl.
"I've never even seen a horse before. Except on television." the little girl tells Byron.
"Well, you're a natural at it. Keep your grades up and maybe you can come riding again." Byron tells the girl.
"Promise?" the girl asks. Byron nods. "Ah, a spider! Kill it." the girl says.
"Oh, no. He's just trying to find his way home that's all. Besides, all life is precious to God, you know." Byron tells the girl. I walk up behind them. "Here, don't be afraid. Trust me." he tells her.
Byron puts the spider in her hands. "There you go." Byron says. Byron sees me. "Ah, why don't you take him in the stable and set him free. I'll be right there." Byron tells the little girl.
The little girl leaves.
"You're braver than me." I tell Byron.
"How'd you find me?" Byron asks me.
"Father Austin told me that you would be here. We need to talk." I tell him.
"Look, uh..." Byron starts to say.
"Prue." I tell him.
"Prue. If you're worried about my telling anybody about your secret, you don't have to. It's safe with me." Byron tells me.
"Yeah, well, that's good to know but why? I mean, most people would be pretty freaked out if they saw what you saw." I tell him.
"I'm not like most people." Byron tells me.
"Yes, I know. Most people aren't attacked by warlocks." I tell Byron.
"I don't wanna talk about that." Byron tells me. Byron gets on his horse.
"Okay. Ah, hi, can I just borrow this for a minute?" I ask. I get on a horse.
"Sure, go ahead." the man tells me.
Byron and I gallop off. I gallop past Byron.
"Hey, wait up." Byron tells me. We slowdown. "If you keep your grades up maybe, you can come riding again too." Byron tells me.
"Oh, you promise?" I ask, but for some reason thinking of Matthew Tate.
"Who are you, anyway?" Byron asks me.
"Oh, well, that's not fair, I asked you first." I tell him.
"I'm not quite sure I know the answer to that, I'm afraid." Byron tells me.
"Well, as far as I can see you're too good to be true, I mean church volunteer, great with kids, loves horses, spiders." I tell him.
"Not all spiders. Hate black widows." Byron tells me.
"That's a good thing." I tell him.
"What?" Byron asks.
"Byron, you're in danger, serious danger." I tell him.
"I know." Byron tells me.
"What, how do you know? I can help you." I ask him.
"No, you can't. You're lucky they didn't hurt you; they could have killed you last night." Byron tells me.
"Who could have? Who are they?" I ask.
"It doesn't matter. After tomorrow, I'll be safe from them forever." Byron tells me.
"What happens tomorrow?" I ask.
"I become a priest." Byron tells me.
Rock climbing place
Piper POV
I am halfway up the wall.
"A little sweat, a nice steam, trip to the juice bar. I'm gonna kill you, Phoebe." I say angrily to myself.
Josh comes down the wall and stops where I am. "How ya doin'?" Josh asks.
I do a fake laugh. "Great. Never better." I tell Josh.
"You're lookin' great. Come on, I can't believe you've never done this before." Josh tells me.
"Yeah, well, believe it." I tell him.
"You want me to keep you company on the way up?" Josh asks me.
"Oh, no, I'll meet you, I'll meet you down there." I tell him.
"All right, I'll see you in a few." Josh tells me.
He goes down the wall. I start to climb the wall again but slip and fall but Josh catches me before I hit the ground.
"Gotcha." Josh says.
"Wow, talk about falling for a guy." I speak. He puts me down and I freeze him. I get out my phone and call Phoebe. "I can't believe I said that." I say.
Quake
Phoebe POV
"Hello, Quake." I speak.
The sink is overflowing, and water is everywhere.
"Phoebe." Piper says.
"Hey, Piper, how's it going?" I ask Piper.
"Bad, really bad." Piper tells me.
"Uh, really? Why? Cliffs notes version will do." I tell Piper.
"You wanna know why? I'll tell you why. Because we shared the look." Piper tells me.
I am trying to stop the water from squirting out of the tap.
"The look?" I ask.
"You know, the look that proceeds the kiss. You look at each other the same time, you smile at each other the same time." Piper tells me.
"Well, that's great. I knew you'd have a good time." I tell Piper.
"No, Phoebe, this is exactly what I did not want to happen. Is that water I hear running?" Piper asks.
"Uh, water? I don't know, maybe just a little. Hey, you know, just out of curiosity, if you were the water shutoff valve, where would you be?" I ask Piper.
Rock climbing place
Piper POV
I hang up and Josh unfreezes.
"Hey, uh, where'd you get the phone?" Josh asks.
"Uh, Phoebe just called, there's an emergency at the restaurant. I gotta go." I tell him. I kiss him on the cheek. "Um, I had a really great time, thanks." I tell Josh.
"You're welcome." Josh tells me.
Church
Prue POV
Father Austin is on the floor and is badly hurt. A warlock is next to him. I enter the church and see what has happened. The warlock sees me and turns back into a human. It's Byron.
"Prue." Byron says. Byron runs off.
Two nuns see what's happened. "Dear God." a nun says.
"Call 911. Hurry." I tell the nuns. I run after Byron.
Outside
I trip Byron by using my powers.
"Prue, wait. You don't understand." Byron tells me.
"Don't I?" I ask.
"I didn't hurt Father Austin. I found him like that, I swear." Byron tells me.
"Before or after you turned into a warlock?" I ask him.
"After. When I saw what they did to him I was crazed. The rage turned me into a warlock. Look don't believe me. I don't care. Just at least let me call the paramedics, please. Don't let him die. I'm begging you." Byron says.
"They've already been called." I tell Byron.
"Thank you." Byron tells me.
"Do you actually expect for me to believe that you're a good warlock?" I ask him.
"No. There's no such thing. I can explain it to you if you let me. I can make you understand. I won't hurt you. I need your help." Byron tells me.
"For what?" I ask him.
"To stop the other warlocks. To stop my brothers." Byron tells me.
Outside the Church
Andy POV
The paramedics are putting Father Austin in the ambulance. Morris and I are there.
"I got an eyewitness. A nun. Saw someone she ID'd as Byron Rowe run from the scene. Apparently, Mr. Rowe lives in the rectory behind the church. You alright?" Morris asks me.
"No, I'm not. Father Austin's my priest. He gave me my first communion. What kind of animal would do this?" I ask.
"You wanna follow him to the hospital?" Morris asks.
"No. I wanna catch the scum that did this to him." I tell Morris.
Quake
Piper POV
I give the man that fixed the water a check.
"Thank you." I tell the man
"Thank you." the man tells me.
"You should've called me." I tell Phoebe.
"I know, I know. But you had a good time, right?" Phoebe asks me.
"Unfortunately." I tell Pheebs.
"Do you confuse yourself when you do that?" Phoebe asks.
"It's just, I don't know, Phoebe, it seems like every guy I've liked lately has been either a warlock, a ghost, or otherwise unavailable, like Leo. I was just trying to save myself some grief with Josh." I tell Phoebe.
"But Josh is available, and human too... I think." Phoebe says.
"I just don't want to be disappointed again. I'm tired of falling for the wrong guy, human or supernatural." I tell Phoebe.
"Well, I am sorry. If I had known that you wanted to take a dating hiatus, I wouldn't have pushed so hard. Are you mad at me?" Pheebs asks.
"No, I'm grateful." I tell her.
"Yeah?" Phoebe asks.
"You followed my instincts. I don't know what I would do without you." I tell her.
Prue POV
Byron and I are taking a walk.
"A warlock naturally comes from two warlock parents, like Greg and Paul did. But they're just my half-brothers, I had a different mother, like my twin, Brendan." Byron tells Prue.
"A human mother?" I ask.
"Yes. A wonderfully human mother." Byron tells me.
"So, then we have something in common. My father was human." I tell Byron.
"Difference is, he came from good. Mine came from pure evil. Descended from an ancient warlock line, intent on furthering the Rowe coven. Three brothers destined to become the most powerful force for evil the world has ever known. And there were three evil brothers, but Paul was vanquished, and now they want me." Byron tells me.
"The evil Charmed Ones." I speak.
"Only, I went into hiding. I didn't wanna be a part of it. I wanted to break the chain. Make amends for all that my family's done." Byron tells me.
"By becoming a priest?" I ask.
"Embracing God in that way is the only way to lose my power, my warlock nature forever. And with it, keep the Rowe coven from ever being. I've been at war with myself all my life, Prue. Running from the evil inside me. I guess it finally caught up." Byron tells me.
"You can fight it. Fight them." I tell him.
"No, I can't. My brothers are too powerful, they're relentless. They'll keep hurting the people I care about until I give in. They'll even hurt you." Byron tells me.
"I can take care of myself. It's you that I'm worried about." I tell Byron.
"Ahh, don't worry about me. I know what I have to do. I have to kill my brothers before they trick me into killing somebody else. You'll have to follow me to their place, and then and your sisters will have to kill me." Byron tells me.
Greg and Brendan's place
Brendan POV
"Everything's ready." I tell Greg.
"Good. He's coming. This is amazing. Just as his approach, my power quickens. It's as if I'm reaching out for him, for completion. Do you feel it too?" Greg asks me. Byron enters the room. "Brother." Greg tells Byron.
"I'm here to kill you, Greg." Byron tells Greg.
"Well, I'm glad. Anything less, I'd be disappointed. But first you're gonna need this." Greg tells Byron. Greg gets a knife.
"It's okay, Byron, take it." I tell Byron. Byron takes it.
"I know this wasn't you're doing, Brendan. But I'm gonna have to kill you too." Byron tells me.
"But me first." Greg tells Byron. Byron and Greg start fighting. "Yes, come on, you're feeling it now. Come on, I dare ya, you're almost there. In your blood, this is us, this is your birth right." Greg tells Byron.
Byron sees a woman tied to a table with candles around her.
"What the hell?" Byron asks.
"Smell that, Brendan? It's damp, intoxicating. But you need to kill. Oh, yes, that's it." Greg tells Byron.
Alex POV
Prue, Piper, Phoebe and I are outside. Why should I be dragged into this?
"Got here as soon as we could, we just didn't have time to go to the house and get the Book of Shadows." Phoebe says.
"Yeah, I don't wanna have to kill Byron too." Prue tells her sisters.
"But you said on the phone he's a warlock." Piper tells Prue.
"Yeah, I know he is but if we can vanquish his brothers before he turns, we might be able to save him. Okay." Prue says.
Brendan POV
Byron is holding the knife just above the woman's throat.
"One clean thrust and you're both at peace. Finish it." Greg tells Byron.
Three witches' barge through the door.
"Byron, no!" the witch shouts at Byron. The oldest witch uses her powers to untie the woman. I fling my hand out and lightning flies out of my fingertips landing near them. They run into the other room.
"Three witches. We can't defeat them without Byron, and we haven't got him yet." I tell Greg.
We run away.
Prue POV
Piper, Phoebe and I run back into the room.
"It's okay, you're safe." Piper tells the woman.
"No, don't take the blind fold off she'll see us. We'll call for help." I tell Piper.
"Prue, he's a warlock." Phoebe tells me.
"I know. And our aunt was demonic as well, which means any of her kids has demonic heritage due to Grams sleeping with one." I tell them.
Brendan and Greg's place
Morris POV
There are police and lots of people there.
"I'll take that." an officer tells me.
A man walks past me.
"Minimal traffic." I tell the man.
"CSU needs the photos." the man tells me.
"I'll give it to him. Victim's a little shaken up, so give her some air, okay." I tell the officer.
Andy POV
The victim and I are talking. A man gives me some coffee.
"Here you go, inspector." a man tells me.
I hand the coffee to the woman.
"Here you go." I tell the woman.
"Thank you." the woman tells me.
"You okay to talk a little more?" I ask her.
"Yeah, um, I had just gotten to my car and I'm loading the groceries in the back and then they just came out of nowhere." the woman tells me.
"Was this guy, Byron Rowe, one of them?" I ask. I show her a picture.
"No. But I remember them calling one of the other ones that. I was blind folded, and I think they drugged me or something 'cause the next thing I remember I was here. I felt the tip of the knife. He was gonna kill me. But she made him stop." she tells me.
"She?" I ask.
"One of the women that came. Um, Prue, I think her name was Prue." the woman tells me.
"Thanks. Stay with her." I tell the woman as I point to a woman officer. I walk up to Morris. "The bastards painted an occult symbol on her chest. A target. She's lucky to still be alive." I tell Morris.
"She ID Byron Rowe?" Morris asks me.
"Yeah, said two others blind folded her. Brought her here for him to kill her." I tell Morris. I start to leave but Morris stops me.
"Where are you going?" Morris asks me.
"I'm gonna get to the bottom of this once and for all." I tell Morris.
Halliwell Manor, Prue's room
Prue POV
Byron and I walk in.
"Hey, um, you can sleep in my room, and I'll sleep with Piper." I tell Byron.
"Why?" Byron asks
"Because Phoebe kicks." I tell Byron.
"No, I mean why are you doing this? Why are you being so kind to me after what I almost did?" Byron asks me.
"Yeah, but you didn't and that's what's important. You didn't succumb to your brothers' will." I tell Byron.
"Only thanks to you. They had me, Prue. Right where they wanted. I could feel the evil inside taking over. It was so strong, so powerful. If you and your sisters didn't come in when you did." Byron tells me.
"You would've stopped yourself. You wouldn't have hurt her." I tell Byron.
"How can you be so sure when I'm not even sure myself?" Byron asks me.
"Because you're a good person Brendan, I've seen it at church, Father Austin's words, at the stables with that little girl. Your good side is much stronger than your evil side, you just have to keep fighting it until your ordination in the morning. And then you're home free. And we are gonna make sure you get there on time." I tell Byron. There's some silence and we stare into each other's eyes.
"How many temptations do I have to endure?" Byron asks.
We move into a kiss but stop, both knowing there would be another half.
"Uh, okay, I'm gonna go. Night." I tell Byron. as I only wanted to get over my want for Matthew Tate, but it seemed to hurt should I kiss another man.
"Night." Byron tells me.
The Kitchen
Alex POV
Prue, Piper, Phoebe and I are in the kitchen.
"He was about to drive a knife in that woman's heart." Piper says.
"Yeah, you couldn't have missed that, right?" Phoebe asks Prue.
"I didn't. I saw Brendan NOT plunge the knife into her." Prue says.
"Yeah, that's because we stopped him." Phoebe says.
"Then why isn't she dead?" Prue asks Pheebs. Okay I may have snuck the pewter heart locket to her room.
"Because we showed up." Piper tells Prue.
"No, because we followed him. Because last night Phoebe had a premonition of Byron being attacked. That makes him the innocent that we're supposed to protect." Prue says.
"Not necessarily. I mean maybe we were directed to him so that we could save the real innocent. The woman." Phoebe says.
"Which we did and now you've brought her would-be killer, a warlock no less into our house. How do you know he won't try to kill us? That's what warlocks do." Piper says.
"Stop judging everyone based on circumstances of birth." I tell Phoebe and Piper.
"Says the one with demon blood." Pheebs says.
"Oh, you know what? My mother left to get away from her overbearing mother, and now I see why. You skipped school plenty I am sure, but my mom does it and boarding school it is." I tell them.
"He's not just a warlock, he's human too. Okay, look, Piper, remember when the Wendigo turned you into a monster? The struggle that you went through and, and, and Phoebe, what about the shadow that turned you evil, what you went through to fight him off just to stay good. If anybody could relate to what Byron is going through, I would think that it would be you two. He has worked so hard for so many years to overcome his dark side and his brothers and he is so close." Prue says.
"What if, what if, you're wrong. What if he crosses over and joins his brothers?" Piper asks.
"Well, then they become the evil Charmed Ones and it's too late to stop them." Pheebs says, looking away.
"I know. Look, I can't explain it. I'm just following my instincts and they've never let me wrong before, at least not when I've really listened to them. Guys, if you can't believe in him, can you please at least believe in me?" Prue asks Piper and Pheebs.
"Okay. Well, if we're gonna help Byron get to this ordination, we have to figure out a way to stop his brothers, they're definitely gonna be there waiting." Phoebe says.
The doorbell rings.
"Who could that be?" Piper asks.
"Byron's brothers?" Phoebe asks.
"Something tells me they're not exactly the ringing-the-bell types." Prue tells Piper and Phoebe. Prue answers the door. "Andy." Prue says.
"Hey, Prue. You feeling lucky? 'Cause I'm about to do ya a BIG favour. I'm gonna forget that I can place you at the scene of the crime if you can tell me where I can find Byron Rowe." Andy tells Prue.
"I'm not sure I know what you're talking about." Prue tells Andy.
"I'm talking about justice for Father Austin. Ever hear of him?" Andy asks Prue. Prue doesn't know what to say. "What's the matter? Need a little more time to work on your story?" Andy asks.
"Andy!" Phoebe scolds Andy.
"Sorry, but all bets are off on this one. A priest, my priest, was viciously attacked at his own church. This is a guy who dedicated his entire life to doing only good. Then a young mother was kidnapped and almost sacrificed at an altar. Now, I can place Byron Rowe at both scenes of the crime and the female victim hearing your name at the last one. And believe it or not, I don't care why you were there, all I care about is who tried to kill Father Austin." Andy tells Prue.
"Andy, why don't you go screw yourself?" I tell him.
"I wish that I could help you." Prue tells Andy.
"Piper, what about you? You wanna tell me where he is?" Andy asks Piper.
"We're not hiding any criminals here, Andy, if that's what you're asking." Piper tells Andy.
"Fine. Father Austin's in intensive care. If he dies, its first-degree murder. And if I find out you're somehow involved, I won't be able to look the other way this time, Prue." Andy tells Prue.
"Just leave like the puppy you are." I tell him. Andy leaves.
"I've never seen him like that before." Phoebe says.
"Can you blame him?" Prue asks, but then takes me by my ear for telling him to go screw himself. What? He isn't man enough for Prue.
"I hope you're right about Byron, Prue." Piper tells Prue.
Greg and Brendan's place
Brendan POV
We are saying a spell.
Prue's room
Byron POV
I am lying in bed and I'm very restless. I get out of bed and see a spider and squash it.
Greg and Brendan's place
Brendan POV
"He should've been here by now. I told you the spell wouldn't work." I tell Greg.
"We still got time." Greg tells me.
"I'm telling you he can't be taken. Our mother's blood is too strong in him." I tell Greg.
"Then we will have to kill him." Greg tells me.
"I won't let that happen." I tell Greg.
"You won't have a choice." Greg tells me.
Byron enters the room.
"Byron." I speak.
"The spell brought you here. But the rest you have to do on your own, little brother." Greg tells him.
"I understand." Byron tells us.
"Do you really?" Greg asks Byron.
"I feel only my power reaching out to yours and yours. To complete our triangle." Byron tells Greg.
"All it takes is the life of a mortal. And then your initiation is complete." I tell Byron.
"I'm afraid it's gonna take a bit more. We need proof that you have truly turned. To complete the Rowe coven, you need to sacrifice a witch. Prue." Greg tells Byron.
Prue's room
Prue POV
Piper and I are in my room.
"Where'd he go?" Piper asks.
"Um, probably to the rectory to get ready." I tell her.
"But you're not sure." Piper tells me.
"No, I'm not." I tell Piper.
"What are you gonna do?" Piper asks.
"I'm gonna find him. Wake up Pheebs, okay." I tell Piper.
Phoebe stands at the doorway. "I'm up. Do you want to know what the Book of Shadows says about the Rowe coven?" Phoebe asks.
"Go." I tell Pheebs.
"It's not good. Ever since the tenth century each generation has grown stronger. Nobody can find a spell or a weapon that can stop them." Phoebe tells me.
"Some days you just shouldn't get out of bed." Piper says.
"Let's just hope the power of three can beat them." I tell them.
"Unless it's already three against three." Phoebe tells me.
Church
Piper, Phoebe and I are standing outside Byron's room.
"Are you sure you don't want us to go in with you?" Phoebe asks.
"If he's turned, he'll kill you." Piper tells me.
"No, he won't I can talk to him. Look, I'll yell for help if I need it, I just need a minute alone with him." I tell them. I walk in the room.
"Hello, Prue." Byron tells me.
"Hi. Is everything all right?" I ask Byron.
"Yeah, sure. Why? You worried about me?" Byron asks me.
"A little. Especially since you left this morning without a word." I tell him.
"Yeah, well, big day. Wanted to get a jump on it." Byron tells me.
"Yeah, shouldn't you be getting ready?" I ask him.
"I am ready, Prue." Byron tells me.
"They got you, didn't they?" I ask Byron
"Look at this place. Hardly furnished, dresser, crucifix, bed, will this be my life? To meditate? To shut out the world." Byron tells me.
"Have your brothers been here?" I ask him.
"Mortify the flesh? They put a spell on me. To make me see your mortal body only. Something to kill. And I see it." Byron tells me.
I use my powers and he flew across the room.
"You can fight it, Byron." I tell him. Phoebe and Piper run in the room. Piper goes to freeze him. "No! It's okay, don't." I tell Piper. He turns into a warlock. "So, this is it? You kill me or I kill you?" I ask Byron.
'Prue." Phoebe says.
"Everything that you've worked for, all the good that you've done and still can do. All for nothing, all lost? I don't believe it. I don't believe that this is the real you." I tell Byron. He raises his arm while holding the knife. "No, Byron, wait! You're good. You can't kill me. It's not who you are. It's not why Father Austin believes in you." I tell Byron.
Byron turns back into a human. "Did I hurt you?" Byron asks me.
"No, I'm okay." I tell him.
"Forgive me." Byron tells me.
"I wasn't worried. Were you worried?" Phoebe asks Piper.
"Nah-uh." Piper says.
Church Hallway
We walk down the hallway. "It's clear." Piper says.
Greg and Brendan appear.
"You betrayed us, little brother. I'm very disappointed." Greg tells Byron.
"Leave them out of this, Greg." Byron tells Greg.
"You're protecting witches now? You make me sick." Greg tells Byron.
"Prue?" Piper asks.
"Now!" I tell Piper.
Piper tries to freeze them but they have some sort of protective shield around them, and Phoebe throws the knife at them, but the shield blocks it. Same happens with my powers.
"No, not this time. I'm ready for you but family first." Greg says.
"Yeah? Come and get me." Byron tells Greg.
Greg picks up the knife and gets ready to throw it. Brendan stops him. "Greg, wait!" Brendan tells Greg.
"Byron, don't let them turn you, don't use your powers." I tell Byron.
"Give him a chance. It's not too late, Byron, you can still join us. You are either with us or you are against us." Brendan tells Byron.
"Then I'm against you.' Byron tells Brendan.
"Then you will die." Greg tells Byron. He throws the knife, and it hits Brendan in the chest. "Damn you, Byron." Greg says
"Greg." Brendan says. He pulls the knife out of his chest. "Damn you!" He tells Greg. He throws the knife and hits Greg in the chest. They both turn into dust.
"I'm sorry." I tell Byron.
"I'm not." Byron tells me.
A clock chimes.
"It's time." I tell Byron.
"Yeah, I know. After all these years, after everything I've given up to get here, a sacrifice never seemed greater than it does right now." Byron tells me.
I kiss him on the forehead.
"Tell me about it." I tell Byron.
Inside the church
Brendan is getting ordained, and Phoebe, Piper and I are watching.
"You know, if you're ever gonna lose a guy, it might as well be to the big guy." Phoebe tells me.
Quake
I am sitting at the bar.
"What can I get you, Prue?" Bobby asks me.
"Hi, Bobby. Um, the usual, thanks." I tell him, thinking about Alex, apprently there was a death in the family and she needed to go to the funeral.
Andy walks up to me.
"Hey." Andy tells me.
"Hi. Still mad at me?" I ask Andy.
"Listen, Prue, I'm sorry about how I acted earlier." Andy tells me.
"Andy, please, you don't have to apologize. I know how close you are to Father Austin. I've known you a long time, remember?" I tell him.
"Yeah, I remember. Actually, I just came from the hospital, the doctor says he's gonna be okay." Andy tells me.
"I'm glad to hear that." I tell him. I may have opened the pewter heart and unleashed Matthew Tate and I am a little distracted.
"And he said it wasn't Byron Rowe that attacked him, it was his brothers. I suppose you don't know where I might be able to find them either?" Andy asks me.
"No." I tell Andy. The bartender gives me my drink. "Thanks. But I have a feeling you're not going to find them anywhere." I tell Andy.
"Really? I wonder how you might know that? Never mind, I think I already know. Well, better get back to work, I just wanted to stop by." Andy tells me.
"I'm glad you did." I tell Andy.
Andy leaves. I walk over to a table where Piper and Phoebe are sitting.
Piper: "Well, you're not handcuffed, that's a good sign." Piper says.
"Depends on who's cuffing you. I'm joking." Phoebe says.
"I wonder how he knew that I would be here?" I ask them.
"Are you kidding? We're always at Quake after we vanquish warlocks. Either here or at home." Phoebe tells me.
Piper sees Josh. "Oh, there's Josh." Piper says.
"Oh, man, that guy cannot take a hint. Piper, this is my fault, I'm the one who pushed you onto him. So I will handle this, okay." Phoebe tells Piper.
"It's okay. I called him. I've decided it's time to try and work through my fears and trust my instincts." Piper tells Phoebe.
"Always a good thing to do." I tell Piper.
"Especially when they're that cute." Phoebe says.
"Piper. I'm a little surprised you called, I thought you were mad at me or something." Josh tells Piper.
"No, I just had to go to church. Table for two? Yes, you." Piper tells Josh. They sit at a table.
"You know, maybe I didn't do such a bad thing after all." Phoebe says.
"I'd say helping her get over always falling for the wrong guy is a good thing. Now maybe you can help me with it." I say.
"Yeah, that's not fair, losing such a catch like Byron to the priesthood. God's got all the studs." Phoebe tells me.
"Well, at least he's not a warlock anymore." I tell Phoebe.
"And at least Piper's not a nun." Phoebe tells me.
Prue: "Oh." I say.
"Right?" Pheebs asks.
"Right." I tell Pheebs.
