It had been about a week since Rosie had gotten there. She was started to settle in, but she also couldn't get passed that she didn't get any closure with the people she called mom and dad for as long as she could remember.
Dave had told her the day before that he had to go into the office that day. He wasn't going to be leaving the state for a few more weeks but he had to get some paperwork done and handed in before the bosses got any more annoyed with him.
"Okay. I was thinking about going downtown. Taking the bus exploring the area. If that's okay." She said
Dave tilted his head. "Sure. That's okay. Just be back for dinner." He told her
"Okay." She said. She knew she wouldn't be but if he didn't expect to hear from her before dinner she could get to her destination before he found out.
Dave could tell she was lying. "Your okay?" He asked
"Yup." She said with a smile.
"Okay." He said. He needed to let her learn from her mistakes. Whatever she was planning he figured couldn't be that bad.

The next morning, he left the house around 7. Rosie had not slept that night at all. So, when she heard him leave she got up and got dressed and grabbed the small bag she had packed and headed out. Grabbing a cab and heading to the airport. She used her passport with her old last name and the credit card and bought the first ticket to Sacramento, California. Rushed to get through security and got on the plane just in time.
And five hours later she landed. She got another cab and went straight to the jail where she knew they were. She got there and was quickly denied entry. She argued with the guard but wasn't allowed in none the less.
She called Lexi. She had gotten a new phone and new phone number
"Hey. What's up. How's DC?" Lexi asked
"Um. I'm here… They wont let me in to visit because I'm under 16.." Rosie said
"Wow. You actually did it." Lexi said
"I did. And I'm going to be in so much trouble and I didn't even get my closure." She said in tears
"Hey. Don't cry. Would they if my mom was there?" Lexi asked.
"I don't know… Maybe." Rosie said. "But would she even let me without my father's permission? Or would she take me right back to the airport and put me on the next flight back?"
"I don't know." Lexi said
"What about Paige's older sister?" Lexi suggested.
"I'll call Paige and find out." Rosie said
They hung up she called Paige and explained everything. Paige asked her sister who is eighteen and she agreed. But said it was a stupid idea. She went.
By the time Paige's sister got there it was getting close to dinner time in DC.
She texted her dad just before they went into the jail.
'I wont be home for dinner… I'm sorry.' Before she turned off her phone and left it with the guards once they were let in to talk to the man she called dad first.
The meeting didn't go well. And she left in tears Paige's sister dragging her out before she could do something stupid.
"I'm not going to let you see her if you cant keep your cool." She told Rosie
Rosie nodded. "Sorry. I'll be calm."
They were led to the other jail on the same grounds for women and she got to speak to the woman she called Mom. They meeting didn't go much better but in the end Rosie got her closure and got her phone back. She turned it on and had seven missed calls from Dave.
"Well. I guess its time to face the music." Rosie said
"Yeah well you shouldn't have come without permission." Paige's sister said as she drove towards her place.
Her phone rang. She answered it. "h-hello."
"Where are you?" Dave asked clearly unhappy
"In Sacramento." She said softly.
"Rosie Bianca Rossi. You are in big trouble." He said
"Yes sir." She said softly
"Why did you go there? Without permission." He asked
"I figured if I told you why I wanted to come you wouldn't let me…" She said
"Why did you want to go?" He asked
"To get closure…." She said
He sighed. "They aren't going to let you in without an adult." He told her realizing what she meant
"Yeah I figured that out the hard way… I ended up getting an adult." She said
"Lexi or Paige's mother?" Dave asked
"No. I'd rather not say who." She said
"I wasn't asking if you wanted to tell me. I expect an answer Rosie." He said her tone leaving no doubt in Rosie's mind that she needed to answer.
She looked up at Paige's sister and just nodded. "Go ahead. Tell him."
"Paige's older sister. She's eighteen." Rosie said
"Do her parents know you are there?" Dave asked
"I don't think so no." Rosie said
"Lexi's?" He asked
"No." Rosie said
"How did you even get the ticket for the flight?" Dave asked
Rosie explained everything.
Dave was frustrated. "Get Paige's sister to get you to the airport. I am buying you a ticket it will be waiting for you. You are coming straight home." He said
"Yes sir." She said and she told her, and the car was turned around and headed to the airport.
When she got to the airport she was given her ticket and she went through security again and texted Dave that she was waiting to board the plane.
Dave couldn't believe what had happened. The girl had lied to him he knew that. He knew she was hiding something. He just wasn't expecting something like this. Dave texted back that he would be at the airport to pick her up.
Wasn't long before she was on the plane and six hours later she landed. This flight went a lot slower in her mind. Because she knew she was in a lot of trouble. And she hopped it was worth it.

She got off the plane. She only had carry on luggage, so she went straight to where Dave was waiting.
"I'm sorry." She said softly not looking at him.
"Are you okay?" He asked
She nodded.
He took her bag.
"Lets go home." He said
She went with him. The car ride started quiet.
"I would have let you see them. I would have gone with you or arranged for Lexi or Paige's mothers to take you." He said
She looked up at him.
"I understand that this isn't easy for you. That everything happened very quickly. I told you that you could talk to me about anything. I wasn't lying." He said
She looked down.
"You went behind my back. You lied to me. You used a credit card that you shouldn't have and a fake ID. You broke several of my rules and a couple of laws." He said
"Yes sir." She said
"Did you get your closure?" he asked
"Yeah." She said
"Did it go the way you hoped?" he asked
"Not exactly no." She said
"Well, I hope it was worth lying to me about." He said
He pulled into the driveway.
"Its late. Have you eaten today?" he asked
"I ate on the plane." She said
"Okay. Go to bed. We will talk in the morning." He said
She looked up at him. Her eyes begging him not to make her wait.
He let out a breathe. "Go to your room, get ready for bed and wait for me." He told her
Rosie nodded and grabbed her bag and went inside. She went to her room and took a quick shower and got ready for bed. She sat on her bed and waited.
Dave knocked on her door 20 minutes after he heard her shower turn off.
"Yes." She said
Dave went in and sat next to her on her bed. "Tell me what you did wrong today." He said
"I lied to you about where I was going. I used a credit card I wasn't supposed to and an ID that is technically not mine." She said looking down.
Dave nodded. "You are grounded. One month. To the house. Someone will be with you at all times."
Rosie nodded.
"You ever do something like this again you will not be allowed to be alone at any time till your 18th birthday. Understood?" He asked
"Yes sir." She said
"Now. Go to bed. Its late." He said. He kissed her head. "I love you." He told her before he left the room.
Once he was gone she curled up in bed letting out a breathe. That had gone better than she expected. Sure, she wasn't thrilled that she was grounded. For so long as well. But if it had been the parents she knew she would likely never see daylight again.
