Rosie slept well that night. Given the intensity of the day and that she hadn't slept much the night before. When she woke up the next day and got up and went to the kitchen and got herself a glass of water.
Dave came into the kitchen while she was getting her drink.
"Morning." He said
"Morning." She said
"Sleep well?" he asked
Rosie nodded. "Yes."
"You hungry? I can make you something." Dave said
"No. Not yet." She said
Dave nodded.
"Have a seat." He said
Rosie took a breathe and did as she was told sitting at the island in the kitchen. Dave sat as well.
"I want to discuss what happened yesterday more." He said
"Okay." She said looking down
"I get it. I get they were your parents for many years. I understand regardless of the situation just cutting them off might not work for you." He said
"I just needed closure. And I got it. If it had gone better maybe I would have wanted to see them again but neither of them really had many nice things to say to me." She said
Dave nodded. "What did they say?"
"He told me he never saw me truly as his daughter. I was only there to make sure they didn't get busted for their real daughters death. She told me similar and that her biggest regret was not protecting her real daughter and that she never really cared what happened to me." Rosie said holding back the tears.
Dave shook his head. "I'm sorry."
"Thanks." She said
"And I'm sorry. I went about it the way I did." She said
"I know. Its forgiven. But I'm going to need you to give me this credit card and any ID's that don't have your legal name on them." He said. They had arranged to get her a new passport and an ID with her legal name.
Rosie nodded and got up and went and got all of them and brought them to him.
"Thank you." He said
She nodded.
"So, I hear this wasn't entirely your idea." He said
"Oh?" She asked
"I spoke to Lexi and Paige's mother's. Lexi's mother decided to check her text messages." He said
"Oh…Well I didn't have to do it. Its not on her." Rosie said
"No. You're right you made the choice to go. Regardless of where the idea came from." He said
"She was just trying to help." Rosie said
"I have no intentions of telling you to stop talking to her because of this." He said.
"You're good at reading people…" She said
"Comes with the job." He said
She nodded. "I'm really not going to get away with anything. Ever. Am I?" She said
Dave chuckled. "Not likely. I'd say don't bother trying but you are a teenager that is wishful thinking."
Rosie looked away.
"But enough about that. Your birthday is in a couple weeks." He said
Rosie nodded.
"Being raised in that religion. You never celebrated. Did you?" He asked
She shook her head. "No."
"Do you want to?" he asked
"What would we do?" She asked
"Well. It would be up to you. We can go out for a nice meal. Have a small party here. With anyone you want." He said
"Well. I don't know…" She said
Dave nodded. "Okay. Well, you let me know."
Rosie nodded.
"Given everything you have been though. How do you feel about talking to someone?" He asked
"You mean like a therapist?" She asked
"Yes. That is exactly what I mean." He said
"I don't want to." She said
"Okay. Well, I'm not going to force you." He said
"But you want me to?" She asked
"I think it would be good. But if you don't want to you don't have to." He said
She nodded. "Okay. But I do think I'm ready to meet people." She said
"You mean the people I work with?" he asked
"Yes." She said
"Okay. I will arrange for that." He said
"Okay." She said with a small smile.
Just than there was a knock on the door. Dave went and got it.
"Rosie. Its your packages." He said. They had been taking longer than expected to get there.
Rosie went to the door and helped him bring them up to her room. "Were you serious about me decorating my own room?" She asked as they brought boxes in.
"Yes. Did you have anything in mind?" He asked
"Well maybe. Um. There is this website. Called Pinterest. People share ideas about well basically any topic. But about decorating different rooms. I've been looking at ideas." She said
Dave smiled and nodded. He knew about Pinterest he had found recipes on there.
"Have you been pinning ideas?" he asked
She looked up him surprised.
"I know what Pinterest is." He said
"Oh." She said
"What did you think I was to old to know what it is?" He asked with a small smirk
"Um. No. Just. Um. Not." She bit her lip.
He smiled and set a box down. "I would like to see what you have in mind."
Rosie smiled and nodded. They finished putting the boxes in her room and went downstairs and sat down at the computer and started to look through her ideas. He noticed alot of pink and green.
"Your favorite colors pink and green?" He asked
"Yes." She said
He nodded and made a mental note. They looked through and Dave took note of a few things and where to get them.
"When we get the paint we can invite a couple people to help us paint it." He said
She smiled and nodded.
They finished looking online when they had a good idea of what they were going to do.
They went and made some breakfast and spend the day together. Later that night when she was in bed. Dave ordered a couple things online for her room. They would go get the paint tomorrow and start making plans.
